I had an idea.
I previously owned an S10e that was second hand and the phone's battery was so bad it couldn't last through the day.

I was craving for a big battery so I ordered a Samsung M51 with a large 7000mAh battery but I still cant get over the feeling of a small phone in my hands. I loved my old A5 2017 and s10e is almost the same size.
So I was thinking maybe I can upgrade the battery. Both S10 and S10+ have a bigger battery as in capacity and dimensions. But then I looked for an earlier phone. S9?
S9+ battery ( EB-BG965ABU )
It has the same connector but I don't know the dimensions so I was hoping any1 can help me with this case.

The S10e stock battery measures 42mm wide, and 71mm tall; not counting the circuit piece, which adds another 5mm to height. My battery is still glued in, so I can't measure its thickness (yet). I too have been thinking about changing my battery (downsizing), but the apparently attached circuitry is puzzling:

I asked store owners on aliexpress selling batteries and they were kind enough to send me this. It's sooo close.
So it appears alternative batteries come with their own attached circuitry on top. Might work for you @YoungPumpkin but probably not for my wish to downsize. Your wish for more mAHr capacity will hinge on making larger battery fit. Phones of the past did this via thicker battery and special back cover with a little buldge.
I could desolder the cercuit of the pther battery and solder it to the new one as thats how they are connected right? If i wanted to fit the bigger battery in the s10e i would have to modify the phones metal body and thats not a problem. But idk if it would work software side of things. And what do you mean by downsizing? Why do you need a smaller battery?
I prefer a light weight phone; had S4 Mini for years. It was under 4 oz. Was forced to upgrade due to poor voice connections due to carriers changing to VoLTE. S10e was the least of the heavy weight evils for me. I have chargers everywhere, on my desk, next to bed, near easy chair, in my car, etc. The lowest my S10e battery has ever been is 82%. I'd like to take an ounce off its weight.

The s7 edge had a 3600 mAH battery , 100 plus than the s9 , and if ur into desoldering, you surely could do it , and if you do, post a guide as well .
I think soldering the chipset of the battery isn't the problem. It has to fit or at least almost fit without destroying the chassis too much. I"ll check the dimensions of the batteries and compare them.
Back in the day they used to swap the s7e's battery onto S6 flats , so surely you will find the proper dimensions for it , also the phone is a tad smaller than the s9 , close to the s10e's dimensions so by that logic, the battery should fit better ?

I just noticed there is a code on the battery that determines its size 1/CP6/44/77 [s10e] and that's where it bottles up.
damn, s10e's battery is THAT small? pff, what's the size of the s9+'s then ?

Maybe if you flip that top connector , in case it is flexible , then there shouldnt be a size difference issue .
Also dont they make the cutouts for the batteries bigger now, to allow them to expand (since the note 7 issue ) ?

Then i got a juice pack but it made the phone bulkier and the continuous charge would heat up the phone + increment on the charge cycles of the battery.
Already tried s9+ battery but it doesn't fit in the frame horizontally
Though vertically it was a perfect fit and a bit thicker overall
I replaced the complete pcb, removed the battery's covering and adhesive strips , didn't make much of a difference either.
I've contacted a lithium ion battery manufacturing unit located in china
Who make custom batteries with your preferred dimensions but in Bulk and they were ready to ship 20 pieces for 7$ each .
But i highly doubt their performance or long term usage when compared to the Samsung manufactured ones .
Also you'd have to desolder the current pcb from your phones battery or else source PCBs from china in bulk again .
How much battery does it stick out horizontally? And what would be the custom battery capacity? I think the only option is a s9+ battery to my beliefs.

I'm interested to buy this, what do you guys think? For those who have this, any feedback, including its performance, would be appreciated. For the price, I can actually get two HTC or four Momax 900 mAh batteries, so I'm not sure if it's worth it. By the way, the cover is mat instead of glossy.

Well, I really love the matt finishing and overall high quality. Thats the finishing that HTC should have given in the original batt.
With the old glossy surface, the pyramid peaks are very vulnerable to scratches, and you can see whitish tiny scratches on the peaks. With the ext-batt's rubbery surface, it's almost scratch proof. I've been using the batt for 4-5months and it's still perfect.
As for the thickness.. frankly, 14mm is still thinner than most PPCs out there.
Enough of aesthetics.. My phone now lasts >50% longer.. which is good for me. Thats abt 2 days with some MP3s. Used to be low end of every day, which makes no sense coz you know 15-20% batt won't get you through the whole of next day.
My advice is.. get the batt as a long term investment. If you're gonna sell the phone after 6mths, bear with the lousy original batt.

I think I will probably keep this phone till November or December, because by that time I can get a free phone from my provider, I will just sell that right away and the Diamond to get something new. Yeah the glossy finish is really easy to scratch, right now I've to use a case to protect it.
There is another option that I'm considering, it's the HTC battery bank BB G300. It's sightly more expensive, but I can keep it for future HTC phones or any phones that use the same connector. The only thing is I'm not a huge fan of carrying extra devices on me.

It certainly improved battery life by up to 50% and i don't think it makes the phone uglier. It's only a few mm thicker (i think 3mm) but only the fact that I get two days out of it with hotmail pushed and OWA pushed through emoze and average calling, texting emailing and surfing, should convince you to buy the battery.
The only problem I had was the HTC pouch that came with the phone. When you have the extended battery on, it won't fit your diamond any more, so I had to buy another one (a generic HTC leather pouch).

What I don't understand is, why do they only thicken the battery? They could also use the new space above and below the battery (looking straight onto the backside of the Diamond).

I think it's not as simple to produce a battery in some odd shape, they also have to consider about the compatibility with other models.
I got mine last week and it's great.
Mat finis is actually better than glossy - no fingerprints and I think it's going to be more durable in the long run.
As for battery life - now I can use my Diamond normally for two days, I had to charge the normal battery every day.

Having owned the extended battery (and getting rid of it). I have to say I didn't like at all, the phone just felt wrong. I appreciate it only make the phone a couple of mil thicker but trust me, it wrecks the feel of the phone. If the phone came with the exteneded battery to start of with, I may have been happy with it.
Another problem I had with it, was that the back was always coming loose and sliding forward when I tried to take the phone out of my pocket.
If you are having problems with the power of your phone, then by all means get the extended battery but I'm telling you the extended makes your phone feel like a brick and even worse, makes it feel cheap.
I tend to disagree, the phone feels much better in my hand (my opinion), I liked the thin looks of the phone with the original battery, but I could never hold it properly, it slipped from my hand a couple of times, lucky it fell on the carpet. Now I like it much better, plus having the added benefit of the extra power. At the end of the day, it's a question of choice, some of you might like it, some of you might not, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here.
Mine has arrived, and I really like it. As said earlier, the matte finish is much better, and the small increase in size actually makes it easier/nicer to hold.
Any suggestions on a pouch or case that fits it?
The extended battery is actually the same thickness as the 900mAh battery with a silicon case ;-) Actually I normally use a Tek Sock pouch with my extended battery.. but for now, i just have a screen protector and will try for a few days without a pouch/case.

i check the battery status using powerguard and the battery voltage is always around 3.9V to 4V.. and the phone gets heat up v fast.. to more than 39 degree.. is my battery faulty or it is normal for the extended battery to behave like this??

im playing games.. but when using the original 900mAh battery, it wont get so warm.. with the extended battery, when it have around 80% battery left, the voltage is like 4.1V to 4.2V.. which i think is very high.. thats why causing the phone to heat up so much..
can anyone confirm with me that it is normal to get 4.1V to 4.2V when the battery life is more than 70%?? or is my battery faulty?? it will drop to 3.6V to 3.7V when battery life is less than 50%..

I got this battery just over a week ago. Figured it was so cheap it was low risk. I'll try and answer your questions.
GPS was affected. It still worked but took a long time to get a fix. I applied the silver foil fix in this thread and now it is just as good as with original battery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4341412#post4341412
Battery life is massively increased. I had stopped using my phone coz it wouldn't last a day. Now I can use GPS for a couple of hours and do some browsing with power left at end of day. So far I have never run out but I still charge everyday because it has been quite low a few times.
Can't speak about long term use
Battery charge seems to be properly displayed.
The cover is not brilliant. It fits but it is a bit creaky. It's just about ok.
The camera opening is just a hole. There is no cover for the lens. It's unlikely to get scratched as it is a deep hole but dust does collect in it.
I feel it was a good investment and I am glad I bought it.

3600mAh Mugen power
At "Special Price" of $104.95 I don't think I would want it. Back cover looks horrible, instead of making a hump they kept the width consistent with a slight curve.
My phone looks smaller with BALLISTIC case on. Battery life is no longer an issue if you have a small charger like below, just keep it in your pocket and charge your phone while it is not in use.
the reason there is no hump like on the HD2, is because the back cover is required to get a signal, due to the contact pins being right there. The back cover isn't a 3 piece back cover, so they can't make a part have a hump, and the rest not.
I have not used this one but I'm currently using their 3300mah for Nexus S...I payed their price and I must tell, they do a good customer support job for the price they ask for it.

Can anyone shed light on why speedtest had a faster download with the extended battery installed?, is it simply more powerful because I would have thought the power was regulated by the phone itself?
Is it likely to be a better aerial in the back of the Mugen case?

The size is too big, and out of my price range
I have one, it gives me enough power to last until the next morning without a charge. The wifi sucks now since the back doesn't have the metal antenna connectors, but everything else works fine. The back is ugly as hell, but its worth it to be able to last at least a day.

The aerial is probably better than the original HTC one, so faster results, they could afford to make it a lot bigger as the back of the phone is a lot bigger

Yes, they sent me a new back to the phone, but it didn't fix it. If I switch to the old battery/back then its fine and works great, but with the back they sent me, my range is now severely limited and certain ways of holding the phone drops my signal altogether.
Well a friend of mine is offering a mugen 3600mah(!) battery unopened for 50 euros... that's about half the price I can find it in retail.
I'm still waiting for my Anker batteries, but I'm -seriously- thinking of getting that as well... do you think it's worth the price, will it really get me ~2.5x the battery time I have now (including drain) or I'll end up with roughly 3-4 hours extra?
Just waned to add that Mugen Power has a slim solution that is OEM sized but still gives about 15% juice.

Just thought I would share a cheap accessory I found. This is a wireless charging module for a QI charging base. In the past I have bought alternative modules (this one) and they never seemed to work right. I would spend a lot of time moving my phone around trying to get the charge working(my wife always got so annoyed)... but this one does the trick.
I have a S4 Active and it works flawlessly, you may lose the water seal but it is worth it in my opinion. I picked it up at Tmart (here)... these guys have always taken care of me(fast shipping and so on).
Here are some pictures of how it looks, I also bought the gold battery works great and has great battery life(a little less than the OEM):
If you have never seen how this works... basically just insert the module, put the back of the phone back on and toss it on the charger. Hope this helps!

Why bother with S4 Active (instead of regular S4) if you don't care about water seal???
What is the purpose of switching from original high quality Samsung battery for "gold" one with smaller capacity??? Does it have some other Austin Powers or Goldmember magic powers? Was it desperate move to get rid off NFC from your phone (you know, PRISM is watching us)?

I had the s4 and the active is much better, the LCD kills the amoled I'm and that was the selling point. Water resistance is still nice and I think if I was to drop it in water it would hold up a little better than the s4. I use the second battery as a back up so I can go multiple days without a charge. I don't use NFC much so no problem there. But thanks for your concern .
Oh almost forgot... the Active doesn't scratch or break as easy, it is a lot easier to see outside(screen)... it is what the S4 should have been... I like the hardware buttons because I don't accidently press the back button when playing games... The brush metal on the glass looks better than bubbles... It has a better build quality... Plus almost all the features of the regular S4....

Yes, now it seems quite reasonable.
I personally prefer SAMOLED over LCD, so I think it is great move of Samsung, that they differentiated Galaxy line so much, that everybody could much features and specifications set to their preferences/usage/needs.
Keep in mind, that S4 Active uses Gorilla Glass 2, while regular S4 have latest version - Gorilla Glass 3 (it is 40% more scratch resistant and 50% stronger by manufacturer's specs).
btw. gsmarena rated battery endurance factor (measures battery lifetime for average usage model) for regular S4 S600 for 69h. For S4 Active they measured 57h. It is half day difference. That was for stock batteries in both phones. If you switch S4 Active stock battery with non-genuine battery ("gold" or other questionable zerolemon etc.) this difference will be even more than half day. Probably close to one day. This is huge difference in real life experience.

Well on the s4 I have used I got scratches on the plastic easily, the active has taken everything I have thrown at it and not even a tiny scratch has surfaced. The glass is less but it is also cheaper to replaced... The lcd and digitizer is only 100 bucks which is half the cost of the s4's equivalent part. The battery life between the s4 I have and the active seem the same and I can get easily 24 hours on a charge with about 2 to 3 hours of screen time. The gold battery is perfect for what I use it for and I am well pleased. The LCD looks much better than the amoled, I had to return it because of the cartoonish looks and ugly whites personally it was a turn off. If they would just get rid of their pentile pixel layout the screen would be amazing.
Basically you have 2 types of people, some love over saturated screen and some like natural. Samsung has got both camps covered with both of these phones. For me the active is the phone I have been waiting for from Samsung. The regular s4 is awesome and I wish they had a version with lcd but the only choice I have is this beautiful active.

A friend lent me their J5 battery to test with for a few mins after I noticed how similar the size was to my S4's battery. It didn't go in fully, but enough to connect. I tried to boot the phone and it actually worked! I don't have the battery anymore so if anyone has a J5 battery they can mod to fit in the S4 that would be interesting. I would have 'negotiated' it into the phone but didn't want to mess up the battery as it wasn't mine. If it does end up fitting fine, then getting replacement batteries may become easier. Buying broken J5's off eBay could yield genuine Samsung batteries that arnt that old, compared to genuine S4 batteries that are at least 2 years old anyway.
The S4 battery has two tongues at the top of the battery on the left and right. These tongues, which are nothing more than a strip of plastic, fit into matching grooves on the back plate/midframe. The J5 battery appears to have the same dimensions as the S4, based upon the pictures I've seen, but only has one tongue on one side of the battery. The other side has no tongue at all.
To get the J5 battery to fit in the S4 battery compartment, the back plate/midframe must be removed and one set of grooves - the right side based upon pictures - must be filed down or cut away. This assumes of course that the pictures are correct and the batteries have the same dimensions.

That explains why I couldn't fit it in all the way. I have a spare mid frame for testing purposes. So might try that and see how long it lasts.if it lasts a lot longer then I'm definitely going to order some J5 batteries. I'll also check nfc if I have time.
They are the same dimensions, I compared it to my S4 battery briefly.
It would be good to have an alternative we can use, as in the US the S4 battery is a "support only product" while in the UK you can still purchase the battery direct from Samsung.

And where I live, import laws are so tight that your not allowed to import batteries in! Not to mention you have to pay out of your ass to get one... And not even genuine.. rip off xD
J5 and S4 battery dimensions comparison
I compared both batteries (J5 and S4) and:
- it's a difference on their height (S4 battery is almost 1 mm greater than J5 battery)
- the corners tongues from top battery are different;
- the three little tongues from bottom, on S4 are located at the edge and on J5 are located on the middle of battery bottom;
The conclusion is the you can easily fit J5 battery on S4 but no so easy if you want to use S4 battery on J5.
