I just went to T-Mobile to buy the phone for my wife off contract as a surprise for her and the rep told me that because I don't have a contract with them and because I'm not authorized on my wife's contract I can't buy the phone for her. WTF...
I bought the phone off contract through Best Buy by calling in, still I wanted to get it immediately with no hassle, blows my mind.

thats not tmobile policy, but stores will sometimes do this when they have limited stock. saving the phones for contract renewals/activations so that they can actually make money. the reps only make 5 bucks when you buy a phone full price.
I purchased mine off-contract from the T-Mo store without an issue. The phone didn't seem to be flying off shelves or anything today.
a bit off topic but i want to know the policy on insuring second hand phones.
i bought a seoncd hand phone from someone they included the original receipt they have for it within the sale.
i want to insure it but seem to keep finding that its only possible to get insurance for new phones. does anyone know if this is true or if there are ways to insure a second hand phone.
i mean i understand the imei will be registered to that person but then the fact i have the original reciept doesnt that prove that they did sell it on to me and that i havent just found the phone.
i was insured through my bank (lloyds tsb) on my old phone which was also bought second hand and all they did was ask for the imei number and the phone model.
this new phone is the ascend p6 which is new hence under manufacture warrenty for 2 year, but bc i've bought it second hand it seems to be void and even if i pay insurance i still cant get insured on it - which tbh i dont really understand at the end of the day i'm still paying in.
Did you get insurance on your galaxy S5?
If so, which insurance did you choose and why?
I got the square trade insurance offered at Sam's Club for $99 w/ a $65 deductible. The thing that sold me on them is they don't send refurb phones. However they do not cover lost or stolen. I'm curious if I've made a good choice because I still have 27 days to get a full refund.

Sprint covers lost or stolen.
They used to replace phones under warranty (without T.E.P.) for $35.00 now it's $75.00
With T.E.P. and under warranty replacement is free (but could be a refurb).
If lost or stolen I think it's $150.00 deductible. Or if it's out of warranty.
How long is Sam's $99.00 warranty cover (a year)?
Best Buy is only a $1 cheaper/mo. Does not cover lost or stolen. Broken Screen is $150.00 deductible. Yikes.
I think Best Buy won't give you refurb either.

The square trade warranty is for 2 years.
Are you sure that replacement is free? Last year w/ my S4 the screen got destroyed and I had to pay $190 just to get a new one. And Sprint told me they couldn't even help me, that I had to file a claim w/ an external company (Assurion I think). The phone I got was a refurb, which I was very angry with. I pay $190 for a REFURB?!
However, I do not like that square trade does not replace lost or stolen. Afterall, thieves today are more active than ever. They do offer an app, however that will locate your phone. But like any thief steals a phone and leaves it on.

$200 deductible. We dropped our TEP on all our phones and are saving $60 a month. Insurance (for sure TEP) is a sucker's game and it took me forever to figure that out. $200 deductible plus $13 a month for TEP over 24 months??? Just buy a N5 brand new and you've saved money. We now have 2x S3's as backup phones we're hanging on to since they were such good phones in case we have to send back to Samsung for repair.
Take a look at the Wells Fargo credit card protection: https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/features/cell-phone-protection/
It looks like pay your full bill for 3 months on their card and you are covered for no premium with a $25 deductible with a lot of small print. I just found out about it so I haven't hit my 3 months yet or made a claim to report my experience.

Well I just got a new M8 for free. Was past 14 days. Without T.E.P. He said it would have been $75.00
Broken screens might be different because that's not a manufacture warranty claim.
I had dropped buying T.E.P. as well for past few years until my M8 died and they said I still had time to add it and get replacement for free.
Got our phones thru costco,
Square Trade was $100 for 24 months with $50 deductible.
Sent from my Rooted Sprint GS5 SM-G900P
I use SquareTrade. Sprint TEP is simply too expensive.
Never have I thought about other insurance providers for the phone other than Asurion, but to cut the cost in half with others?
I've already had to pay a $200 deductible for a replacement, would be nice to not have to spend that much again...
Anyone already previously use companies like SquareTrade? What's your experience? Do they cover lost phones?
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a T-mobile galaxy note 3 from swappa. The phone is brand new according to the seller. When I received, the phone was actually new, and there was nothing wrong with that. After 1 week of using, the microphone is completely dead. I brought that to T-mobile store but they refused to exchange since I bought from a 3rd party. Then I asked the Samsung customer service, but they said the phone is out of warranty. Swappa staff encouraged me to reach an agreement with the seller since they could not "judge" the situation. I wanted to get a refund since the point I bought brand new phone because of the warranty. The seller did not agree because she only accepted 3 days return only. She told me to fix the phone and she will pay for the repairing cost. Should I accept the offer or keep asking for refund, or even dispute through paypal? Will I be protected from paypal since I heard a lot of complaints about the paypal dispute and solution center?
Long story short: I bought a OP8 on Ebay a year ago. The seller didn't disclose that it was still under contract. T-Mobile refused to unlock the device told me to get a refund. Had to force a refund through Ebay and sent the phone back to the seller, the phone was returned to me as undeliverable as the address provided by the seller to Ebay wasn't a real address. T-Mobile told me I as the new owner but they refused to unlock it still and then blacklisted it. I took them to Arbitration and the Arbitrator railroaded me. So now I have a perfectly good near mint (no scratches dings, etc) cell phone that I can't use.
Is there a way to force a sim unlock and root on this phone? I'm willing to experiment since I really can't use it for anything else, and if I bork it or brick it well at least I'll have tried. I don't want T-Mobile to win this one.

You could pay to have it unlblacklisted and unlocked. I saw a few site that were around $50-$60. Dont know how legit they were but if you did some homework I'm sure you can find someone who can do it
