Samsung Note 10 or 10 Plus with external mic - Rode VideoMic Me-C & Saramonic SmartMic+ UC + gain controller - General Questions and Answers

Is there any way to controller the gain of external mic in Samsung Note 10 or 10 Plus?
I am using Rode VideoMic Me USB-C Edition and Saramonic SmartMic+ UC. When I record video through Samsung's default camera app or any other camera app, a lot of hissing sound is in the video. The only way to control or reduce the gain is through the pro video mode of Samsung's default camera app. But using pro video mode to get a decent video means doing settings for white balance, focus, etc. everytime and by the time settings are done, moment is already gone.
I tried 3rd party app called Microphone Amplifier and Google Amplifier but there was not effect.
So, is there a way to control or reduce the gain of external mic while recording through Samsung's default camera app (with default mode) or any other camera? If there is any 3rd party app other than mentioned above, then also it's fine.
Thanks in advance.

Hissing, wind noise?
Try a foam sock. Or a mic with gain control.

No wind noise because both foam and cat hairs are on. But yes, huge hissing sound. Also, recording is too loud. No mic is available which is in small form factor and has gain controller.

Not many options in settings. Try the zoom in mic option. May or may not help.
Maybe there's a 3rd party mic management app on Playstore or the Samsung Galaxy store.

Zoom in mic option didn't help. I tried few 3rd party apps (mentioned in initial post) but that too didn't help. That's why I asked about it here, if somebody know about such third party app.

[Q] Testing Microphone - Any Apps to Try

I am trying to test the microphone on the GTab. I sideloaded fring and tried to make a test call. The microphone was all crackly. Not useable. Is there another app to try to test the mic? What I want to know is if it is the device or fring. I tried to get Yahoo Messenger with the Video app but I haven't been able to find the apk anywhere that is the current version.
how about the sound recorder that's included in the GAPPs file?

I was also going to suggest as the quickest check... or Rehersal Assistant from the Market if you want to really test sound quality better saving a raw uncompressed audio file for playback on tab or elsewhere...
Microphone Sucks
I purchased this in part to perhaps do video conferencing. I tried the sound recorder with the unit at arms length distance and tried to record my voice. It was so faint through the speakers with my normal speaking voice I could hardly tell that I had recorded anything. This is not a good sign. Even talking way loud (shooting), it was barely audible through the speakers with the volume at 100 percent. Now that may not be how someone would perceive it in a video chat application but I don't have high hopes.
Anyone else record anything through the microphone? Is there any other approach that would work (Bluetooth Headset)?
i have Talking Tom open at my desk while im at work because it entertains me when i yell at my employees
i notice no issues with volume or quality

Start-stop video remotely

Hi.
I need to start and stop video recording remotely. I tried to use the wired headset, I can start and stop the video with the volume buttons, but the stock camera app is using the headset's mic instead of the internal mic which is not good for me.
I installed soundabout from playstore, I tried to disable the detection of the mic of the headset, but the camera app is still using the headset mic...
I installed camera remote from playstore - I have android wear smartwatch - it's working fine, but it can't record in FullHD with 60 FPS.
Any suggestions?

I'm thinking tasker or automate it, there's a camera plug in for automate it but it only seems to take pics not video, there's bound to be a way to do it.

I'm recording squash games, the phone is on glass, and I need to start and stop after each game without taking the phone off from the glass.
I even tried with bluetooth headset, but the volume buttons on the BT headset do not control the camera application at all, it's adjusting the volume...
Maybe I need to use a 3rd party camera application, but neither I tried is able to record in 60 fps fullhd. I don't understand why, I think the capability of the camera can be queried by the application, so all is needed to let the user choose from the settings the camera is capable of. But it seems camera application developers are hard coding the formats I can choose from.

weird problems with camera apps.

Hello,
trying the video camera with third party apps, i noticed this weird squeak sound while autofocusing
clip here: youtu.be/bNSNSiVkiQg
with the native camera app i don't have this problem, but the stereo sound is inverted! even weirder: it does this from the second video i record after i reboot the phone. the first one is fine, then they all have audio inverted right<->left
any advice? (other than factory reset)
can you please test if you have the same issue? if it is, it mean it is a problem of the device itself and should be noted to huawei.
it's easy checking the left/right channel simply by blowing on the sides of the phone (lower mic is right, upper mic is left) with the audio recorder app it works always fine. with video, you need to make at least 2 of them because the problem comes from the second one. at least for me...
thanks

thanks! have you tested with the video app or with the audio recording app? if with video it's like this and with the audio recorder it's bottom/right; upper/left. i'm not the only one.
edit. also, turning the phone while recording (bottom to the right or to the left in portrait mode), it's always swapped. when bottom is to the right, audio of that side is on the left, and vice versa

thanks a lot!
if the third party camera app audio issue is confirmed too, we may confirm another "fature"... :/
i did the video with google camera (but also tried cinema fv-5) and the auto focusing noise it there, not always, but most of the time. expecially when it struggles focusing.
anyone willing to try? this is not as easy to reproduce, but definitely there.
hi all,
testing again, I noticed that the noise is most likely mechanical. it is possible to ear it in a silent environment while switching from camera to video with the stock camera app.
here's a recording of it
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzRd4ezyPZACZXY4WkoyREFESnM/view?usp=drivesdk
it's the same of the video in the opening post youtu.be/bNSNSiVkiQg
can you guys check if it's a common problem? the customer service just keep saying to factory reset, but that does nothing... (also cleaned camera app cache many times)
thanks

Did you ever solve this, or is it purely hardware? I noticed a horrible squeak on PA Rom and on 3rd party cameras on stock.
It's hardware, cannot solve this

For recording your voice, yes. Use a third party app like Parrot that lets you choose a mic. Some video apps probably do the same.

Enable external mic in video recording in Honor 6X

With a decent camera on the Honor 6X, wanted to create some 1080p videos for YouTube. The problem that I faced was that, even with all the appropriate converters from TRRS to TRS mic and speaker splitter, I could not make the stock camera app or the reputed third party apps like open camera and Camera FV5 to start recording from the external mic . Even with the right choice selected on the third party apps, it just records from the built-in mic.
Is there any way to force the app to recognise the external mic. To note the external mic works fine with voice calling, but not with video recording.
Open camera is the app you can try.
