The end of updates cycle (just a guess) - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Guides, News, & Discussion

Today I saw that no matter the theme of the phone the update interface in settings turn white, all text disappeared and the only text showing now is "YOUR SYSTEM IS UP TO DATE". No more version, no more last check, etc. Is this the sign the phone was disconnected from the Xiaomi servers? I thought this was supposed to be the last month of updates.

Nothing changed in my update interface in settings, I'm on june 2021 security patch, dark theme, and I can still check for updates.
But indeed I doubt that we still have updates (maybe one last...)

That's exactly what mine looks like although what it means regarding any updates is anyone's guess. As it happens my screen has started to separate just this week with long streaks up both sides. It's not affected performance yet (and may not do) but along with the lack of updates from now on I took the opportunity to order a Poco X3 Pro 8/256MB. Perhaps Outlook will decide to start working again for me

The last "performance" update was upgrade to android 10 and maybe few following, all others was security patches from google! No one cares about this model at list one year, wake up guys! Thanks god we have a realy big community, and still rolling out new customs for this model.

Hi All.
I'm on May 1 update now. Recently mobile data stopped working from time to time and cellular signal doesn't function on incoming calls and SMS when SIM is in slot 1.
Seems more like a hardware issue to me, but did you experience anything like that with your Mi A2 Lite?

guess its time to move to a stable custom rom, maybe with dt2w

Maybe But if it is a hardware fault the rom won't matter.

its not hardware, we had it and they removed it with i cant remember wich update

Major OTA update 6.2.2013 -

Guys,
Incase you didn't know, doesnt appear to be common knowledge yet, but i just had a tip off, checked updates and low and behold, an update is available.
Im carrier unlocked, so it may be a while coming to you, but keep checking.
Strangely about still reports OSversion is 80.10211.204?
On the face of it, it appears to be a quite a big release, after installing and restarting a couple of time, you get presented a 'migrating data' screen, in all takes 10 minutes from starting the install.
Whats changed...?
Well i dont know yet, still installing, but thought id give you all the heads up.
Will report back when installation has finished.
Ciao.
Interesting find! Receiving the update as well now (unbranded). Makes me curious as of what might have changed.
Strange, but the "Windows Phone 8 update history" on microsoft site nows nothing about this update.
UPD:
Some Sina Weibo account could be added.
If you read OP message carefully, OS is not updated. It is probably just a HTC firmware update. Not a WP8 OS update.
Well it isn't an os update, so its from htc, as to what its done i don't know. I didn't note my firmware version before updating so i cant tell you lol. Device feels faster but probably placebo effect. Anyone notice anything?
Sent from my Windows Phone 8X by HTC using Board Express
Update
Both Firmware & bootloader versions have changed.
FW updated from 20003.111 to 20005.111
Bootloader from 0.0.1532.20(159895) to 0.0.1532.20(162966)

Contacted HTC support today, no changelog, they dont know (or wouldnt say) whats been updated, they said to contact MS for info, which ive now done.
Be interesting to know what else has changed.
I noticed this as well as I am always checking for updates in the hope some amazing new features will be added to WP8, wasn't unfortunately, as mentioned above a firmware update and rom loader version update.
Phone seems faster but we are all probably imagining that!
Any information on what this update contains would be appreciated
A little extra boost on battery life would be nice, not that my 8X has a bad life, but its not the best ever.
Hi
My 8X Just back from technical support and as already the new bootloader version (0.0.1532.20(162966)
It seem now i can't flash via Goldcard method! :crying: (i can't unbrand it this time!)
And after reset there is a gears turning during 5 mn on screen! I Never See This Before....
IF YOU WANT TO UNBRAND YOUR 8X DO NOT UPDATE NOW.
My batterylife seems to be better - my device would get pretty hot while using Whatsapp or reading pdf files or things like browsing, but not anymore since this OTA update!
One thing I have noticed, is that the phone sometimes has a 1-2 second delay after tapping the Back key. so sometimes I press back twice because the phone didn't seem to response to the first tap but it did in fact, so I double tap out of an app which is pretty annoying. But if thats all, well, I'll just use the windows button instead haha.
Anyone noticed that under Advanced (Wifi) you have the ability to let the phone detect your location for better wifi re-connection? At least I didn't notice this option before the patch. Pretty sweet! Doesn't seem to impact my battery too much, I usually finished the day with 25%, now I still have around 50-60%. Might be placebo, but it makes me smile when I see other people running for powersockets with their iPhones/Androids
Hi,
I have an HTC from USA AT&T, I have firmware: 1532.20.10009.502 and bootloader: 0.0.1532.20(156201),
Why this numbers are far enought from the one you are saying and when I look for updates it say it is updated.?
Well, the device is certainly booting faster, so that is a big :highfive: in my book
Is this update on Verizon.
Check the volume guys, same as Lumia 800. Restricted
Haven't received anything yet! Unbranded 8x here! Are they distributing this one by country or what?
Just had update here on O2 UK...
Only difference I have seen so far is a Hearing Damage Warning when putting the volume over 20 when listening to music....to be fair, mine never actually hits more than 15....

well, I had the update two days ago. The volume is not restricted, just that now when you turn it up above 20/30 while playing media content, it will give you a message about blasting your eardrums out. Probably they forgot to include that before as the 8X is quite capable of high volume output. Just some legal precautions. Other than that, it's just a FW and boot loader update from HTC side, not from MS.

i don't know how they decide which devices get the update, but it isn't depending on Country as my father got the update 3 days ago and i'm still with the 20003 Firmware

Nokia 7 Plus TA-1055 single sim version

I want to open this thread about Nokia 7 Plus TA-1055 single sim (for those have this model variant like me), to discuss about it and about problems with custom boot/system/anything else flashing/installation, which works on another model variant (TA-1046 and TA-1062) instead.
Pie gsi gives "no SIM" bug on single sim variant of the the TA-1055
- Oreo GSI (I tried them personally) have a weird call bug. It's very impossible to call someone!!
- Custom kernel have some problems with TA-1055 model, instead of other variants
I'm running pixel experience gsi on my ta-1055. No Sim bug is fixed by popping the Sim out and back in. Super stable build. Way better battery life and so much faster. After every reboot/update you must pop the Sim out and back in and it works. I think it has to do with the fact that it's looking for sim2 first and can't find it because it doesn't exist.

in November Nokia7Plus have official 2 OTA branch, one in line 3.22* which is only with security patches and second line 3.39* which also have some apps updates...
then if for you sideload say "expected 00WW_3_22C (SP04" then you can try OTA 3.22* on instaled higher branch 3.39*...
now you can check what exact version you have installed (in Settings/System/AboutPhone is two version show, one in BuildNumber (me PieFeb is 00WW_3_39B_SP03) and one in AndroidVersion/BuildNumber (me show [email protected]@_3_39H)), and download right OTA files from 3.39YOURVERSION to 3.39NextVersion (and repeat until you finish on Februrary) here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-7-plus/development/ota-nokia-7-plus-ota-links-t3818774

Thank you very much for your help!!
*disclaimer: Thanks for the help, but unfortunately nothing worked in the end,
Interesting. But I don't understand how this whole thing could even work. I am on 3.22H january security level. For starters, I can't install anything older than January updates. Also, 3.39 february update is out of the question again, as it's for 3.39, doesn't work with 3.22.
And the phone won't let me sideload anything older, saying "expected version: ...3.22H".
That's it, can't install older updates, can't roll back to oreo either. End of the line. Volume up, power button, then power button and volume up, apply update, connect usb, type in this type in that, check logs, switch fastboot slots, still wrong timestamp. It's 2 AM, wasted 2 hours of my life with "tutorials", combing through endless list of unorganized update files. This is my first android phone, and this is exactly what I expected unfortunately. 3.22H it is then. Wish windows phone was still a thing, I miss my Lumia so much.
Is timely updates too much to ask? Do I have to debug and flash my phone myself? Getting real tired of BS like this

Well, actually no one is forcing you to do updates on your own, so stop blaming anybody except yourself for wasting time. I'm not satisfied with the quality of updates too, but complaining so hard on XDA has no effect since HMD is not reading even their our forum for this phone.
I'm atm stuck at January patch 3.22, but do I care? No. Why? Security updates are something that keeps me calm not getting since they are almost useless. And as people report 3.39 nor 3.51 don't have any significant fixes which would really drive me crazy not having (maybe except for nav and notification bar coloring fix). I already perceived that HMD is a pile of crap and I don't expect them to do anything.
Once its get really bad with the stock rom experience I'll unlock the bootloader and flash some custom rom (i.e Pixel Experience), as they are getting better over time.
Sure, I'm not blaming anyone but myself, in fact I thank everybody for their effort...
But still I, bought this phone to just use it, not waste time and effort making it up to date, as they've advertised, then what? They split update paths... Anyway, I gave it a shot, I failed, moving on

First time setup question

So, I picked up a new unlocked 4a from BestBuy today. Before I set it up, I want to know if I should let the phone upgrade to Android 11 or try to keep it on 10? I know there have been some problems with 11. What's the opinion on this?

My opinion is to wait for the November or December update and then upgrade to Android 11.
I'm still on Android 10

No issues with A11; Oct update smoothed out a few rough edges that weren't that jagged to begin with. Every update brings drama from the fringes. Gotta decide what camp you fall into.
Are there any Android Auto issues with the current version of 11? I think there were some at one point. BTW, I'm upgrading from an OG Pixel XL which is still going strong.

Just my 2 cents. I just got my 4a yesterday and it came with 10, i updated to 11 during setup. I have ZERO issues. I was actually a little worried reading stories about issues, but i don't have a single issue.

Of course you didn't. For every negative report there are vastly larger numbers of perfectly happy users. Widespread issues draw a huge response over multiple boards that easily stand out from run-of-the-mill grumbling.

Plus if you DO have problems after "use 10 for a bit, install 11" then you'll probably end up factory resetting and doing all your reinstallation, config again.
(I recall from back when i could be bothered fiddling with cyanogenmod that nobody was interested in bug reports if you did a "dirty flash" - you had to do a factory reset first as it cured all sorts of problems. i wonder if google doesn't test stuff properly and you end up in the same situation and that's why factory resetting fixes so many problems).
The devices came with 10/11 based basically of release date in your state/region you live. I for example live in Italy and I bought mine from Google directly. It arrived 8 Oct with already 11 installed and with Oct security patch. No issue here with 11, as the major part of the other people. Let's say that's generally is expected to have some problems when there is a major release come out, as with any other software piece, not only android, but generally a couple of update fix all. And it seems so with Google security patch too.
I've decided to go ahead and update to 11. I assume that the pending update is for the Oct release,, but the notification doesn't show which release it is, only that it's for v11. I don't really want to factory reset before the update. Does anybody think it's a good idea to do a reset first?

On Android 11 because phone shipped with it .
Should be no need to reset first.
No touch screen issues with Spigen protector.
Android auto works fine with the assistant lagging from time to time. However that could have been due to poor service....

It's best to factory reset AFTER updating.
Also I'm fairly sure by now every region would have the October security update.
I did the update this afternoon. The update was for the September release, but then there was a 2nd update which brought it up to October. The phone seems to be running well after the updates. It seems a little zippier than before.

OOS 12 - should I upgrade?

Hey guys,
I got the popup to update to Android/OOS 12 on my Oneplus 8 (Europe/BA variant) recently and I've been thinking - should I do it? Some other forums say it's a total dumpster fire but I'm not sure if it's just irrational hate. I'm being prompted to download IN2013_11.C.16_1160_202204222304 so this isn't the first version. I'm satisfied with the current performance of my phone for now but I'm trying to find out for the future.
Are there any game-breaking bugs or battery life concerns?
Sorry if it's been posted before, I couldn't find this topic. Thanks--
Stay away from it. it's real crap.
Your phone will be slower, many gestures will be slowed down and you will regret the update very soon. Also the latest versions have big problems with Google sync, you will not receive notifications and updates from Google applications.
If you have wifi calling turned on don't upgrade. It's gone in v12.
Other than that, I find things seem to work. Some of the notification sounds have changed, but it's easily fixed.
Alan
Not sure about all of the haters on here, but wifi calling is still available on Android/OOS12. Also, google notifications work fine. I have been using a rooted stock rom on 12 and it has been working well. My only issue is that I lost root with this latest update, but Android 12 is pretty solid.
Thanks for the answers!

How do you get at wifi calling? In my UK phone, it's not there.

I just read the first post again, and I am on the global version, so that may be the difference.
For me:
Settings -> Mobile network -> Select sim card with number [Square at the top] -> Wi-Fi Calling
Specifically on the SIM info & settings page, I see the following:
Enable {selector}
SIM name
SIM number
Data roaming {selector}
VoLTE calls {selector}
Wi-fi Calling {sub menu}
Preferred network type
Access point names
Carrier
Maybe that will help.
I did the upgrade about two months ago, and let me tell you is a mess. Stay away from it. Ghost touches, the screen goes ON for no reason, plenty of issues. To me OnePlus has lost its course, this will probably be my last OnePlus device.

Oh yeah, this is definitely my last OnePlus device too, on that we can surely agree. With the price hikes they're just not an option anymore, in stark contrast to before when they were my undisputed #1 pick.
They used to do software, pricing and performance extremely well, now they don't do either one right, and nothing has really improved in the last 2+ years.
I just want to use this phone "securely" until it falls apart cause I'm very happy with it right now.
Even after two years of heavy use it still works flawlessly and the battery is still very good.
I have a long thread about it on the Oneplus support site. Buggy software is pretty common these days, but having a release that has so many bugs in it, is troublesome, to say the least. I have contacted OnePlus support and their solution is for me to wipe the phone - like that is going to fix anything?
Not to criticize, but I think OnePlus has lost it, Support does not have a clue, and nobody that can provide answers is reading the forums or paying attention to what the community and users are saying and going thru with their devices.
Is not only the OP8 that is having upgrade issues, the other models too are plagued with buggy software too.
What the least should do is to acknowledge it, Put a communication out, in the proper channels admit that there have been errors and if you are working on it provide a timeline and that is what a reputable company does. By not doing anything, their reputation is going down the drain, the users are left scrambling trying to get a usable phone.

NO I don't have VoLTE or WI-fi Calling. I'm on the EU version (in the UK).
My advice, don't upgrade to OS12. For me it has been a disater.
I haven't had any major issues, but the OS feels much more clunky designed and sluggish to me. There are a few designs I like more, but the update doesn't seem worth it. Also somehow using up much more of my storage space. It says I have 51GB of apps when the total is more like 10-15GB, and 30GB used for system/other.
I just updated my OnePlus 8. I have had Android 12 on it for a few months. It did feel clunky. I just updated it with a 1GB update to OS12. It has greatly improved the performance of the phone. It feels like the original out of box phone now.
I am on global rom and the release landed within the last 3 or 4 days.

unless you are having issues with the phone, i dont think you need to reset it. C.16 seems to be super stable with respect to battery life and performance. I see only minor bugs like Processor name showing incorrectly (865 reported as 855), battery % not showing in status bar on swipe down etc.
In short, you should be fine without a factory reset

Only if they bring back wifi calling on the EU version. Otherwise, I won't bother, but move to Samsung.

Question Has anyone with an unlocked A53 5G (in the US) received the Android 13 update?

Just as the subject mentions. Curious if it's just me?
Nada. No update. And when I mentioned this on their forum, they deleted the post.
I even tried the thing where you remove the SIM and search for updates then. Didn't make any difference.
Searching with Sammoblie and Frija, only the carrier version(A536U) from Xfinity/Comcast has gotten it in the US.
I don't have it either, what bothers me most is that 13 was released for older A phones including lower priced models already. Is it possible that because this is an enterprise phone (at least in the USA) it requires more time for testing?

What bothers me was how quickly Samsung deleted my post on their forum after I asked about this.
It's been like 6 weeks since the same phone in other countries was given this. It's quite annoying.

Samsung's discussions has a sticky at the top that updates happen whenever (edit: or at least it did before). And that's definitely how it goes for all their devices.
Even Samsung flagships go through silly stuff for updates and Android versions so its not A53 only.
The A53 unlocked has carrier apps on it so its tied to the carrier testing. Why will US carriers release Android 13 for older devices before newer? No idea but that's how their testing is going. They have some reason.
Really, you will get it when you get it. If you just think it won't show up until the year 2721 then it should be easier for you lol.
Its frustrating I know for unlocked to be dependent on carriers. But, waiting, it will at least probably have less bugs so that's fine enough. A buggy device isn't fun at all.
edit: Also A52 appear to be doing better than the A53 in getting Android 13 and listed as Enterprise. So, I don't think Enterprise has anything to do with it.
edit: The end result appears to be what Samsung's sticky said which is updates happen when they happen.
Samsung promised 4 years of updates for this phone so they have about 3 more years to give us android 13.

3 Days ago, my phone suddenly shut itself off, and then stuck itself in a bootloop and would not boot again. It's a Samsung A53 5G (ATT&T) running android 12 one UI version 4.1 at the time. After booting into safe mode and wiping application config data, it still would not come out of safe mode until I factory reset it and connected it to a wifi network.
Finally after all of this BS, I got it to boot normally, but then, as if by magic, my phone was running Android 13 UI Version 5.0!
WTF!?
So I spent an entire day recovering my bank accounts, cashapp, applications, and various accounts, and chalked this pain in the ass up to the game...
And then this morning, it ****in' happened again.
I'm done with Samsung. This phone has been a $500 piece of **** since day 1. It's not even 3 months old yet. Samsung has gone from the most badass manufacturer of android devices, straight to the bottom of the abyss in terms of quality.
The Bloatware they send with these devices now should be unlawful. The amount of YOUR resources they use to track every single thing you do, every place you go, every dollar you spend is unfathomably creepy and discomforting.
Do yourself a favor and get comfortable with 12. because 13 is an even bigger piece of ****, and in my case, it has totally wrecked my phone twice in 3 days now.
Do yourself an even bigger favor, and throw your samsung into the bottom of the ocean and go buy yourself an IPhone. I'm really sad about the way Samsung has turned out. I'm even more sad about the way Android has gone down the drain. And Google has turned into the world's most powerful creepy stalker with Facebook a close 2nd.
I think if people actually new just how intrusive these tech companies have become, they'd stop using them altogether. There needs to be new and better privacy regulations and trackers and spywares and metadata miners and these 'ad targeting' programs and applications should be illegal.

That's not the experience of most people. Since you bring up Apple as if that will help you avoid this when it can happen there too: https://myphotoyear.com/ios-16-update-goes-wrong/
Its just a fact of life.
More or less it could be improved or solved by multi-OS versions at the same time (such as dual boot on a computer), slower major OS versions, etc. This is not how Google or Apple thinks though.
To add, you can of course improve loss of data by using system backup and also backing up your stuff separately. Though Android still isn't perfect there.
Of course, if you see an update, avoiding updating for some months might also help though not ideal.
edit: For instance you could have used the Samsung restore which may be presented on first use setup or even manually done in Settings > Accounts and Backups > Restore which will restore much if you used the online backup or backup to sd card. Some apps and data will be missing if apps don't support it, etc. Unfortunately, it seems to only offer one backup at least online so any backup on the account since might have destroyed it.
edit: using that and backing up to sd card includes 10GB of stuff on my phone whereas the online is suggested as 2GB (it backs up files and also eg debug built from source apps). So, if you want the best, it may be what you should do from now on. Then restore it if need be. Still, up to apps to support backup individually. Make sure to run it weekly or something.
Also, I know you're pissed about that. Try not to be pissed with me lol. Thanks.
I'm thinking we're in for weeks, or months, more wait. We haven't even gotten a January Security Update.
Just received the Android 13 (One UI 5.0) update last night on my unlocked phone. Also includes the Jan 2023 security update. Looks like they just made the January cutoff
Hmm I have unlocked a53 on t mobile, I checked for updates today and it said there were none.
I received the update today for Android 13 including dual sim support.
I been checking my A53 unlocked running on Visible every week since Christmas for an update. Today it found the Android 13 UI 5.0 update. downloading it now.
How is the new version? any bugs found?
ok, once my phone updated and rebooted now I am no longer connecting to 5G. I've rebooted a few times and nothing has changed. I'm stuck back on 4G.

5 days after your post (6 since you got the update), with daily checking, and it's still a No for me.
My A53 arrived this morning and upon turning it on, my device had a lot of firmware updates waiting for me. I just updated to Android 13 not too ago along with January's Security patch.
I happen to live in the US, use T-Mobile, and I'm using the international version with dual SIM support.

Another 3 days...
Still no Android 13 update.
I may wind up going to the Samsung service location in my area. This is ridiculous.

They do rollouts on top of things.
You could of course use a sim from a different carrier that has the upgrade available and do it that way. Might just get it immediately or still not. Then switch back. That is a possible workaround.
Of course, if you see a signed image for download for Android 13 for your carrier. That might work too even though it still is a wait for it to show up that way.
I don't know if there's any other way here because of the CSC. It would be interesting to know if a Samsung service shop would do it for you. I can't imagine they would.
Received the update today. Seems to run faster.
