it currently has android 2.3 on it but is very slow and i have been told i should be able to get a custom rom or upgrade is this true if so how???

No, the ROM must be specifically built for your specific model number, using anything else will almost certainly brick your device.

I am currently using Freelander I 30 phone which uses android 4.2.1 firmware.
This firmware has lots of restriction, i would like to upgrade to some firmware which is generic but has lots of features. currenly i am using sgs2. the features in sgs2 are more than features in my freelander phone.(although it is advance configuration)
