Does anyone know if this is possible with the XZ? I've seen a few kernels and roms mention it, but have never seen it working myself. This would be a good balance between FPS and resolution for this device. I want to be able to run vridge and this would put this phone into affordable VR territory.
I've tried it at 1080p60 and it is simply not enough FPS to make it a smooth experience. I'd be happy to work with someone to develop something as much as I can.

On Lineage OS 15 (EAS), you can have a fluid 4k 90hz with the modified imgs avaiable for xzp (although theres a 144hz image but it isnt so fluid). For the 4k though, you can emable with adb shell putting command "wm size 2160x3840" and then "wm density 820".
On android 9 or newer versions, touch only worjs at 1/4 of the screen.

(this link is for the poste, the download one takes you to android file host). I recommend flashing this after passing the oobe. You should also get gapps (8.1 arm64) and magisk, if desired

To be honest I dont understand it myself. The only plus to it is being able to fit more on the screen.
It gives your screen a high definition look. Think of it like a youtube video. If you watch a video in fullscreen and it is slightly blurry and then shrink it to half screen. The picture gets so much clearer. Changing your DPI is purely cosmetic. But it can cause apps to not run properly and apps not to be available from Google Play (Android Market). But there are fixes for this too.

i don't get how you can raise the DPI if the phone itself has say 800X480.

It's a setting offered on the Absolution ROM. I'm not sure if its a CM feature or what other ROMs offer it but Abolsution allows you to mess around with the DPI.
Because of lack of time this has been discontinued. I will leave these apk's here for anyone interested to study, hoping that someone will pick up where I left off.
Long time, no see. I just made a hack that I feel I should share with you all.
Attached is a hacked version of the Netflix app, I've modified it to try to raise the bitrate. On my galaxy nexus it brings the bitrate up from 750 kbit/s to 1750 kbit/s (3000 kbit/s in Netflix 2.4.1). I've also modified the seeker behaviour to be better matched for Android TV systems by changing the sticky seeker to 10 seconds instead of a value based on the movie length, which could make the seeker snap minutes away from where you wanted to be.
Notice that this app isn't signed with the Netflix private key, but the default key that came with apksign, so you will have to remove that app before using this one.
Enjoy!
Netflix 3 is out, but I still recommend Netflix 2.4.1. You can read why and download Netflix 3 here.
Netflix 2.4.1 (build 950)
Here are some exciting news. Super HD support for Nexus 7. I've modified the files to unlock that to all 4.3 phones, but there's a performance issue on my phone so I cant test it. Therefore I will upload three files this time. One that should be capable of Super HD and two more limited.
16x maximum bitrate
This should be capable of Super HD, if your phone can handle it and uses Android 4.3.
Maximum 3850 kbps
I haven't been able to test this much, it's more than Galaxy Nexus can handle.
Maximum 3000kbps
This is what the Galaxy Nexus can handle. For image comparison, please visit the link in the second post.

Colder interest than I expected. Here's some screenshots
Comparison
This is actually the movie that made me do this hack, because this very scene felt so extremely sluggish. I find the extra bitrate does more justice to the stars
Nice

I've added an upgrade that you might like. It increases the minimum bitrate to what was previously the maximum bitrate, to avoid too low bitrates. It has the rotation fix you asked for too.
please modify the latest netflix (2.4.0) and post it here for us.. I really really liked your modification, its superb.. keep it up

Also it would be great if you can set the minimum bitrate to 1750 and max bitrate to 6000 or something..

Actually, that forced a bug where the video wouldn't load, but I added the last netflix app (2.4.0 build 939) anyways. It has the previous hack where the minimum bitrate is set to the previous maximum bitrate and maximum bitrate is 16 times the previous maximum bitrate.
Enjoy!
This is great. Thanks!

Guess I need to check this out.
Version 2.4.1 is out, with the HD and Super HD limits removed if you have Android 4.3.
If you try this out and have Android 4.3 please let me know if which one works best.
This is great, quality is much better. No android 4.3 here yet so cant test superhd unfortunately.
Any way of checking the bitrate? Example short 23.x doesnt show the bitrate overlay..

Don't have Android 4.3, but this version should definitely give the best possible quality on 4.2.2

Well, no, not on the binary I've shared here. You have to check the Netflix logs for that and having that enabled in production build costs a lot of performance. I could maybe fix a debug build for you when I have time over, but I can't say for sure when that'll be.

The cold interest is because there have been plenty of "HD Netflix" apps that have all proven to be false. I am sending you a PM.
Not saying that yours is.
Keychar can you please let me know which part of the apk did you modify to change the bitrate?
I already decompiled it but I can't find it. I'd like to test the SuperHD one on my Galaxy Note 2, which is running 4.1.2
I sideloaded this to OUYA, and it works GREAT, much better quality than the normal app, better subtitle size too, just perfect. Thank you so much!

That is a change in the file called bitrange, if I recall correctly. I would recommend that you use a diff program to find out exactly what I've changed, that's a lot easier than for me to go through the changes.
edit: For 4.1.2 it's not in bitrange, that is only for non-HD and non-SuperHD bitranges. Still, I recommend that you use a diff (such as WinDiff) to find my changes.
I could have sworn there was an option in settings to change the screen resolution to, for example, 1080x1920. However I cannot figure out how(or if) I did it in the past. Maybe I had an app that gave me that option?(even though maybe the option didn't work). I've spent the last half hour going through my phone and caved in and decided to ask. Let me know if I am crazy you guys. thanks.

You must have been using a 3rd party app as the post above stated this is something new Google introduced in android N. It's a nice feature btw instead of having to manually change it with 3rd party apps.

So I got the update for 7.0 but the closet thing I could find as far as changing resolution is the option to lower resolution and frame rate for apps ONLY. Other thing I saw was the slider to change the "zoom" of things. Is this what you guys are referring too?. If not can you lead me in the right direction. The reason is I share a lot of screenshots and it takes a hit on data as well as a bit longer upload times. Thanks.

Not sure how t mobile has it in their settings as I'm on cm 14.1 and it's under settings --> Display --> Display size. But each rom is a little bit different. Maybe someone on stock can chime in as I'm waiting to take a look at the stock Android 7 after it's released as a flashable zip from twrp.
Yeah thats the zoom thing in was talking about. It is called display size, thanks. Isn't that just working kinda like a dpi change. Meaning same resolution but more space?

I love cm 14.1. I use dual boot to boot stock N primary, cm14.1, Tesla and RR as secondary roms. Personally I use resurrection remix 7.1 as my primary ROM. Only issues i care about is no video recording without using footej camera but switch to stock when wanting to record video usually.

Yep. Dual boot is awesome. For the longest time we didn't have support on T-Mobile but we finally got support and I've used it ever since. Now I dual boot everything to test out every ROM. Always fun to have options. Dual boot thread is located under main g5 thread instead of t mobile thread.

I don't own the phone, unfortunately. I just spotted the full manual camera mode in a video review.
As a reluctant owner of this particular phone, I can say with utter certainty that api2 is enabled, but no mod I've tried has installed successfully.

That's good to hear.
I know it's a bit unrelated to the topic at hand but... would you recommend this phone to a casual user like me who just wants to use it for multimedia (YouTube, VLC etc.), What'sApp, Reddit, Twitter, snapping some photos (mostly in broad daylight) and maybe some lightweight 2D games here and there (Angry Birds etc.)?
I don't care much about app loading times, as long as the UI is smooth and stutter-free.
Thanks!

As log as you get the 3gb version, then, yeah, I would recommend it. I had the disadvantage of getting the 2bg version that lags awfully sometimes.. especially compared to my daily driver.

Unfortunately, 3GB variant isn't available in my country. There's either the 9A 2GB or 9C in both 2GB and 3GB variants. I was hoping to install the lightweight Android 11 Go Edition GSI (not a big fan of MIUI) some time in the future, but it appears to be impossible at the moment.
Do you think I should avoid this phone altogether and look for something else?
Thanks!

The phone isn't a bad one per say, with light use you can probably get quite a bit out of it. Especially after rooting becomes available and you can disable some of the bloat (yeah, never thought I'd say Android One and Bloatware in reference to the same device). It can run games with a decent performance and, of course the battery is what you'd expect from a 5000mah battery in a low spec phone. Battery backup for the win.

It's good to know you can run it. I'm surprised it is so fluid. In my experience even Pixel 3a is a bit slow on the latest Pixel UI.
I honestly think Samsung's UI, or Pixel's Android 11 UI is better than Pixel Android 12/12L/13 UI (especially the quick action and lock screen layout), so I wouldn't try this.

i made a ticket on their open source website. the sources for A536B are available on there because of me: https://opensource.samsung.com/uploadSearch?searchValue=A536BXXU1AVBB
if those work for every A53, great. if not, it would take maybe 24 hours for the others to be uploaded if tickets were created for either.
