Iconia Tab A500 useful? - General Questions and Answers

another tablet i've found while cleaning out old stuff is the Acer Iconia Tab A500.
It's has an ok screen, but terribly slow.
Anyone can suggest a ROM i can flash?
or other usages I can do with this tablet?
I've thought of android auto since the screen is quite big, but it's too old and doesn't support it.

Tablet?

With the hundred or so various tablets out I have no clue which one to get. I have watched so many reviews on various android tabs. I am pretty sure I want an android tablet vs an ipad or playbook.
Basically just wanted to hear from a few people who have recently purchased tablets and are happy with them. Looking for a WI-Fi only tablet I don't want to pay a monthly data fee. Anyways lemme know what you guys have and how you like it.
Also want to add it's just for home use web browsing some email ect..
If you want something more powerful you should wait till Q1 for the new 4core Tegra ones. Then we are talking opportunities ^^
And should have no problem with true 1080p movies, for what I've hear at least none of the existing ones can handle it.
Something to think on when you get bored with the web browsing

Thanks great idea... I wish there was a site just dedicated to tablets where I can see upcoming tabs ect.. I never realized there where tabs on this site until I scrolled through the huge list of devices on the main page... Thanks though Tax time here in 4 months would be an even better time to buy a tablet.
If you take a look at the specs, I just don't think you can beat the Acer A500.
LOVE IT !
Im also in the market for an Android tablet. Im going to wait for the quad core 10in with vanilla ice cream sandwich.
For the look right now the sony and samsung have the best design. I hope the next transformer will look better with the same price point

I haven't purechased a tablet, but I think I can still be helpful, as I work at a PC stor, selling tablets as well. So first of all, here are the tablets I've had in my heands and thoroughly tested:
1. Prestigio Multipad PMP7070C
Display: 7”, 800x480, capacitive
CPU: ARM Cortex A8 @ 1 GHz (Texas Instruments)
OS: Android™ 2.2 Froyo (Flash 10 Support)
Memory: 256MB DDR
Capacity: Flash 8GB
Communication: WiFi, Bluetooth
Others: HDMI, Camera, USB 2.0, G sensor
Cheap but not something I'd buy for myself. Bottom line - not worth the money!
2. Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101
NVIDIA® Tegra™ 2 1.0GHz dual-core CPU for excellent multitasking & HD video playback
Android 3.2 Honeycomb O.S. with Adobe® Flash® 10.2 support*2
Full QWERTY keyboard, touchpad input with Polaris® Office® for mobile productivity
16 hours long battery life for all day computing with mobile docking
Brilliant IPS panel with ultra-wide 178⁰ viewing angle made from scratch resistant and super tough glass
Nice tablet and really worth getting the keyboard as well - extends the battery life up to 16 hours (10 h w/o it). Tough Gorilla glass - deffinitely a good choice.
3. Acer Iconia A500(my personal favorite)
ACER ICONIA TAB A500
CPU: ARM Cortex-A9 1GHz
RAM: 1GB DDR2
Screen: WXGA (1280х800) Capacitive Multitouch
Internal Memory: 32GB Flash Memory
Wireless: Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n
OS: Android 3.2 HoneyComb
Ports: 3.5 mm audio, 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x micro USB, micro HDMI
Great performance, long lasting battery, Gorilla glass, USB port for the moments you just need to type faster If I ever buy a tablet, it will definitely be the Iconia A500.
4. IPAD2 - a very nice tablet, fast and smooth scrolling b/w screens, but with all due respect to Steve Jobs, I hate to be asked for my CC number every time I want to DL an app
5. Galaxy Tab 10.1 - a total knock off of IPAD2! Same design, same everything... By Apple's example, they even removed the memory card slots! Once you get the tablet, you are stuck with whatever you bought! No memory extension, no communication ports - just a WiFi and a 3G! Big NO NO!
6. Motorola XOOM - even though it has the same HW as Iconia and EEE Pad Transformer, in real life it doesn't perform as well as these two. Screen is not sensitive at all and the tablet works somehow slower.
Hope I've been of some help. Cheers.

Should I buy a Vega clone? How fast is it

Hi,
i'm thinking about buying a Vega clone with 3G. At the moment i have a cheap 99bucks 7" tablet with ICS, 512mb ram and 1,2Ghz Cortex A8 cpu. The speed is ok, actually it's enough for me, but the screen is just too small and the resolution is crappy (800x480). 3G with an external dongel is annoying to. So I looked around on ebay and found new Vega Clones with 3G for 140€. How fast is it? Faster than my actual device? My actuall device (Odys neo x7) doens't has root at the moment, of course I'll use roms for the Vega.
Can I compare the speed of the Vega with my girlfriends classic Desire?
Thanks in advance
You mean the advent vega? Cause i had one and that screen is horrible...id invest in one of the chinese tablets with ics and an ips screen.. Id check out the ainol novo 7 aurora 2, allthough thats 7 inch. But there are enough 10" ones with ips, dual core and 4.0 for around the pricepoint of the vega. You can find them on sites like gadgetgreats.com etc

[Q] Processers, Tablets and Openness.

I am looking into getting a tablet. Most of them have the Tegra 3 processor. After the Nexus 7 was announced, nVidia released the manuals for the T3. Will this mean that pure android roms will be possible on other Tegra 3 devices, like the Asus Transformer Prime Infinity or Acer a700?
I would like a 1080p tablet, but if it is going to be left behind and updates take too long, I will get the N7.

[Poll] Help with 10'' android tablet choice

Having a hard time deciding. Options are: Asus TF300T, Acer Iconia A510, Acer Iconia A700 HD.
The main deciding factors are:
- will be used for gaming
- must have Tegra 3 Quad core cpu
- JellyBean
- under 400 euros
The A700 would be my first choice, but some reviews said it lags and it is a little slower then the others. Others said the screen might not be so great (not bright enough). This seems to be caused by the higher screen resolution. Thing is, I don't really need very high res as it may impact gaming performance. However most reviews I saw were old, so Acer may have pushed some updates since then. Also another point in favor of the Iconia is that I plan to use an external keyboard, not like the Asus which comes with its own keyboard/dock.
Another point is that I read that the A700 vs A510 is only about the screen resolution. Is this true? Therefore is the A510 faster because of lower screen res? Would this be a plus for gaming?
Sadly I would love the Nexus 7 as this would check all the boxes, but it's too small. The Nexus 10 is not available for me.
1. Which would be the fastest/lag-less, more swift in general?
2. Would the Iconia A700 be able to run all current 3D android games fluently?
3. Would there be any other choice? If anyone has the time to take a look, please make any suggestions from two stores: fnac and darty. Google for the full links; they are stores in France where I am currently stationed.
Edit: made a mistake in the model name of the Acer tablets, of course they are the A700 and A510. Could a mod please edit the poll, or is there a way for me to correct?
