Hello,
I recently got a Poco X3 Pro, previously I had a Redmi Note 9S and noticed something unusual when apps tried to access the storage directory in the Poco. At first I thought it may be a config change on the Poco (like the "app vault only" on the poco launcher compared to mi launcher), but the after some googling I found out it was related to Android 11 scoped storage.
The issue here is that app no longer have read permission on the storage or media_rw directories. I don't know if it's something from scoped storage or google just decided that apps could no longer read those directories.
Apps can still read or ask permission to manage an external storage if they can get the directory fullname (storage/sdcarname/...), but apps that use a basic file explorer can't access the external storage. Apps like emulators that users usually have an external sdcard to store their roms have this problem. Apps can read files on the external sdcard if you use a 3rd party app like a file explorer to open those files with the app that can't access the external storage, users with emulators are relying on the app called Dig to scan the files and open the roms on their respective emulator.
I tried the adb command to disable scoped storage per app from this article:
The Storage Access Framework is the only way for apps to work with all your files in Android
But it didn't let one of the apps read the storage folder.
I used a root file exploer to see if something was wrong and noticed that the Poco X3 Pro on Android 11 had 710 permissions while the Redmi Note 9S on Android 10 had 755. So even if an app can get the permissions to access all files on android 11, if it uses a basic file explorer it will be unable to access the external storage.
I rooted the phone to see if I could change the file permissions. Unfortunately they only remain for a minute or so. Fortunately I could use the time to access the files and set the rom library for the emulators.
Is this something related to scoped storage?
Is there a way to make the directory permissions permanent?

Hello.
I think, this app is useful for app2sd user. [It's based on Open Manger. just modified the apps for rooting user]

A. Rooted device.
B. App2SD
C. Busybox

is it just me...
but if i download it, and try to run the apk, it tells me "cant open file" o.o
Works for me on HTC magic 32b running froyo, many thanks.
I don't know why, but I can open all folders I want except /mnt/sdcard. I get a FC when trying. On filemanagers I can open /mnt/sdcard with success.
Using a HTC Desire, rooted and S-off.
Installed and works for me, but it shows my /data/app/ folder as empty.
I have apps2sdext so it should follow the link...
As a workaround I can browse to /sd-ext/app just fine.
Only for Froyo devices right? I'm running 2.1, has anyone figured out how to move apps 2 sd on 2.1? (stock kernal)
Can I change boot screen also from the root?
does not work with my mytouch 4g... had to busy the market version instead
Sorry to dig up an old thread but I'm having a problem moving apps to my SD card. I go into rooted explorer and copy the .apk, I move into the /system folder but there is no SD folder. Everything else looks the same as the screen shot except I'm missing the SD folder. Any ideas?
Hello, this is my first post on XDA. I noticed yesterday that all the files and subfolders in the folder /storage/emulated/0/download
are apparently disappeared.
Three file managers, Total Commander, Astro File Manager, and X-plore, display that folder as empty.
Instead, that folder contained many eBooks, PDF manuals of several calculators, and some other documents.
The app Device Inspector, choosing the option "Storage & Memory", displays the following data:
Device Storage, Used 12.54 GB, Available 11.16 MB.
Memory, Used 1.44 GB, Available 379.23 MB.
Thus it looks like the download folder is still holding all the files I have previously stored in it,
mostly from my PC via WiFi.
The problem is not only due to the fact that the files are now non-accessible,
but it is also impossible to install new apps, due to the lack of available memory.
The first thing I tried was to power off the Nexus 5 and then power it on again,
in order to reset the system, but that didn't work.
Then I googled looking for a solution, but with no joy.
All I was able to find is the advice to re-format the storage and to copy all the files
into the storage again.
I found also the advice to use TestDisk, a software for the PC, able to recover data from
SD cards, USB sticks, and so forth.
In both cases it is needed to use a PC, and I have two at home, but now I am on Summer Holidays,
and the only other device I have here is another smartphone, a Nexus 4.
Anyway I have the backup of all my data, of course, both at home and on an USB stick I have taken with me, and by now I would like just to know how to free the storage space in order to be able to install some further apps, to store some other photos and/or videos, and so forth.
Thanks for any explaination.
check /sdcard/ in the root filesystem using root explorer. i bet thats where all your files are, not in /storage/emulated/0/download

By now I cannot either install nor use Root Explorer, due to
a lack of memory and the fact that my phone is not yet rooted. I will try when I'll be back home.
In the meanwhile, I have seen that Total Commander, too,
can display the folder /sdcard/ under the folder Root of the Filesystem, but it looks like my files are not visibile.
Anyway, thank you for the reply.

anyways, thats where all my files always have always been, in the /sdcard/ in the root filesystem.
my phone can't see its internal storage, though the data is still there. I'm running tin latest developer preview, flashed clean and rooted with code blue. everything was fine, but I dirty flashed xtra smooth 1.5 and then reverted to my stock rooted backup a day later because of battery issues. since then I cannot download any file from the browser, it starts and then says unsuccessful after a second, and I also can't download a file from my google drive. play store works fine however. if I open the aosp gallery the folders for my internal storage images (camera, instagram, vsco, downloaded, etc.) just show as blank, with pictures saying "no thumbnail available." however, videos show blank as well but have the play button, and if I hit it the file will play normally, and if I attach one of the blank images to something like hangouts or an email they will show up. if I try to the back up function of any apps that offer it, like my alarm clock or pedometer it fails. though they can see the old file is there and restore from it. lastly, file explorer programs show my sdcard folder to be empty, though they are obviously not. I generally use es, but have tried several others with the same result. if I view it via twrps file explorer in recovery things are normal. any help?
Read the /sdcard sticky in general
thanks, it is a great sticky, but after reading it i dont see any solution/reference to my problem. the issue is not that data is deleted or corrupt or anything along those lines, it is that my phone- when booted into android- is not seeing my files. the data is there, but something is wrong and i cannot see them. for clarification, its not just /sdcard that is showing as empty in file explorers, /data, /storage and many others are showing empty too, though not everything as folders like /sys and /system are showing up as normal.
Mine is doing the exact same thing and is blowing my mind, it knows the folders are there, it says I have 7 GB full but the folder is emptey in any file explorer
heres the error i get when trying to download a podcast, i get a similar EACCESS permission denied error when trying to back up an app, but like i said, if the app already has a backup on the storage i can restore it no problem

It's like there is something disabling it from being seen by the system
I had a similar issue, doing this resolved it:
adb shell
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0

Thanks bro! This fixed my SD issues!!
Hi!
I picked up a Mate 8 from a local service provider and would love to flash a new ROM to get rid of the ugly stock one, but I am stuck when trying to flash anything from TWRP.
The phone boots fine, I unlocked the bootloader, and has TWRP Mate 8 version...I can't locate any files from the internal storage though. I understand this is due to the system being encrypted. I cant seem to get around that though. I tried the format data option, hit yes, then go back but that obviously has deleted what I had stored (the SU zip). I can't mount the SD either afterwards, to load it in recovery.
I tried using the Italian knife tool, and used the Root option, and option 3, but get an error: error: cannot load '.\rec\boot.img
I am not a pro on this so it might be something farely stupid. I would love if anyone could help me with this...

Edit:
I was able to solve myself. It was a rookie mistake. Perhaps the internal storage is encrypted, however I was able to flash SU using TWRP by inserting an external SD, which I had not done before. I was able to view contents from that location and did not need to use the Italian knife tool.

Are you using SuperSU ??
To delete system apps, download system app uninstaller from play store and grand it superuser permission.
I'm Rooted and using Androids FX file Explorer, to try to add a ring tone to the ringtones system folder.
/system/media/audio/ringtones
Would someone explain how to make the file write accessable or direct me to a link to how to do this?

I searched but all I could find were links how to do it through a command promt, which is not what I'm looking for.

after android 8 (in preparation for project Treble), system partition is mounted during boot as read-only by default (as you can find out through the partition's mount flags). so there's 2 ways to achieve what you want:
you remove the shared_block feature from Super.img and mount system as R/W. There are tools to do this, but they're not tested on Samsung devices. Like this Tool.
you root your phone with Magisk and make a Magisk module to add your files systemless-ly. Here is the Developer Guide.
Of course, You would need an unlocked Bootloader. Here is the guide for Unlocking and Rooting. I also advise you to flash TWRP before experimenting with the Module you create. Good luck.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I'm already Rooted with systemless-ly already activated.
Just tested Fx file explorer on my privious phone and it works correctly after mounting the folder.
I passed the root check. is there a diffent option/checkmark to allow Fx access to root or give Fx pemisions in majiks on android 13?
