What is a USERDATA File??? - General Questions and Answers

hi im planning to downgrade the firmware of my Galaxy Note8 using odin. from Pie to Oreo. i downloaded an Oreo firmware, the zip contains 6 files.
AP, BL, CP, CSC, HOME CSC and a USERDATA.
im not familiar with USERDATA file. i dont know if i can skip that file or if it's really important also to flash that together with other files. what added to my worry is that my phone is already unlocked with other sim. originally its a tmobile but now im using it with a sim here at the philippines. im afraid that if i flash that Userdata file, my phone will be locked again with tmobile. hope someone can help. Thanks in Advance!

Userdata image is flashed onto the userdata partition, and if you did sometime unlock your device from the carrier, flashing it won't lock it again.
The real problem here is that usually, you can't downgrade unless the bootloader revision be the same in both firmware, (it just happens occasionally) this most likely will trigger the ARB protection.

Flash stock recover

Hi,
how to flash a stock recovery and where to get it from.
Does it have to match the firmware, modem ect.?
thanks
Just flash the BL and your recovery will be recovered. But before that set a pin under Secure Start-Up in the security options, otherwise your device will demand a pin, which wasn't set and you can't boot. To be safe, backup your internal storage and also your files if you have root.
PS: Build shouldn't matter and I would suggest to take the newest one.

You can download any firmware from sammobile.com or you can use the tool SamFirm. You'll get 5 files (AP, CP, CSC, Home_CSC and BL) and you need to flash only the BL via Odin. Just Google how to flash a firmware with Odin.
Doesn't work though. After attempting to flash BL is the way described, there is a long wait, then it fails. I want to update the Stock OFW, but cannot remove TWRP to do so. Any advice?

Firmware files - what are the AP, BL, files for?

So I downloaded the latest XSA update which came out yesterday on SamMobile, and flashed all four files - only to find that my phone had been wiped, including my /data partition :'(
So my question is - what are the four categories of files to flash in Odin (AP, BL, CSC, HOME)? And which one is responsible for me losing my data?
If you flash CSC will wipe your data. If you flash CSC_HOME will not wipe your data.
AP: is your system partition with recovery and stuff.
BL: your bootloader
CP: your modem
CSC: this is what features you get in some countries or carriers like Wi-Fi Calling.

Thanks for that. So can I flash the CSC file under CSC_HOME?
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Yes. In the CSC slot you put the HOME_CSC file

No, you must always flash the 4 files!
If your CSC is XSA:
AP, BL, CP & HOME_CSC_XSA
Then your data will stay intact!
Note: this can only be done if you stay at the same CSC; if you want to change your CSC for any reason, you need to flash CSC-file of the new country/region (that will reset your device)
Re-partition?
Do I have to enable the "RE-PARTITION" option in ODIN when changing CSC?

Hi mate
It is recommended , changing to a total different CSC may need a change in partition size...
For more info read here

Mix and match?
Just wondering, could it be possible to mix and match?
Example: Flash the AP of T-Mobile and the CP of AT&T? To avoid incompatible band problems

Hi
For what I understand all USA ( Snapdragon) versions are compatible , so that would possible BUT to be sure you should ask in the right forum , this is for the international version Exynos
What is the UMS
What is the UMS part of ODIN?
EVERYONE HAVING PROBLEMS TYPING EXIT
Before typing "setsid su<enter>?, type the following: "alias a='exit'<enter>" and THEN type "setsid su<enter>".
IF you do this, you can exit root shell by just "a<enter>", which is cake easy to do.
i made a mistake
cancel
i flashed bl instead of ap what should i do know because phone does't work anymore
I cant seem to find these firmware files anywhere anymore, can someone help me ? I need For Norway/Europe

Read some threads, the instructions are literally everywhere, they are even under the download on sammobile site, which means you have not read anything
Better off using odin.

Download XEF firmware for your phone, and flash all 4 files (BL, CP, AP and CSC). It should go back to normal state.

Possible to Flash G930AZ (Cricket) with G930T (T-Mobile)?

Short question:
Can I flash G930T firmware into a G930AZ Galaxy S7? Have someone tried or accomplished this? If so, how?
Explanation:
I have a cricket wireless branded Galaxy S7, since cricket does not seem to have any interest in releasing android 7 nougat anytime soon, I decided to flash another firmware...
I was planing on using the G930U, but since that one is not available either, I resolved to put up with T-mobile's bloatware;
I tried:
To flash all 4 files from T-mobile's firmware on ODIN
Result: I got an error saying the ext4 file was too big, the device got soft bricked and stuck in a bootloop to recovery, I had to factory reset using the G930AZ files on ODIN
Only the AP file
Result: Same as above
I've read in some forums that I should try to enable the reformat option so it wipes all and creates the partitions with the right size and while that makes absolute sense I don't want to end up with a $600 paperweight.
There's the NAND Erase all option, Flash Lock, T Flash, Phone Bootloader Update and Phone EFS Clear.
Also, I was wondering if it was possible to mix and match files, example: flash the AP file from T-Mobile's Nougat while keeping the CSC and CP of Cricket (CSC: Cricket does not support Wi-Fi calling, CP: To avoid problems with unsupported bands)
I have the BL, AP , CP, CSC files of both the cricket's Android 6 and T-mobile's Android 7.
Thanks you in advance for your time and effort in answering
You should consider on using .PIT file along with others.
Therefore you will remap your partitions to match filesystem sizes.
But I must warn you: do not mess with the partitions if YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

In theory it's inside one of the .MD5 files you must use in ODIN.
Try to download official trusted firmware package source such as one from sammobile.com or updato.com and follow the instructions to flash it

Failed Downgrading J700F

Hi all. I have Samsung Galaxy J7 2015 (SM-J700F). I just received the recent update (April 2017). However, I don't like it and want to downgrade to the previous one. I have downloaded Odin and the firmware which is J700FXXU2BPH3_J700FOLB2BPH2_XID or whatever you call it. It failed after trying to execute cm.bin file. I have done some research and I found that Samsung has locked the bootloader in order to prevent downgrading process. However, in those threads, they only mentioned about downgrading from Android 6 to Android 5. In my case, I just want to downgrade from the previous security update/patch in the same Android version which is Android 6. Is this still possible in my case to do downgrading to my desired version?
Samsung locks older bootloaders from being flashed. It is possible to downgrade the OS without downgrading the bootloader by just flashing all the .tar.md5 files in Odin EXCEPT for the "BL" one since that one is the bootloader. Good luck friend

See attached picture. Your stock ROM should be a zip containing multiple files. ending in ".tar.md5" and beginning with "BL, AP, CP, and CSC" respectively. You just add and check all of the appropriate files EXCEPT for "BL"

My zip file only contains 1 file. And from the tutorial I have watched it belongs to AP section. But, I have resolved this problem by removing 3 files, sboot.bin, cm.bin & modem.bin.

Question L2117 - Bootloop after successful MSMDownloadTool flash - Now what?

I have a T-Mobile OP9 that I just purchased used. The bootloader was unlocked and I received the file along with the phone. The phone was originally on A11 L2115 (but still showed L2117 in Settings / About). I rooted and grabbed the modemst1, modemst2, and persist.img files with Partition Backup before anything else. I then subsequently updated officially to A13 through an update via local storage then through the OTA updater and it was then fully seen as L2115. I then realized that the rom I wanted needed A12 firmware so I went back to A11 then unlocked bootloader again and attempted to update firmware only off the CrDroid A12L update page. I chose not to flash the modem during that flash and then afterwards my service stopped working. It read the IMEI and baseband and would recognize that it was T-Mobile but no calls/text/data. I then got the bright idea to go back to Tmobile A11 through MSM then unlock bootloader, root, and use Partition Backup to restore the modems and persist imgs. After that, even though I can successfully flash the full Tmo MSMDownload Tool ops file, it only bootloops. If the MSM tool can't fix it - is it done for?

Sounds like it's not factory resetting when running MSM tool. Boot into recovery and wipe device. Then it will boot.
Regrettably, I've already tried with and without wipes in recovery. I've successfully flashed the recommended T-mobile firmware and there seems to literally only be one option to try for this variant I've seen anywhere. I know the file, Downloader, drivers and USB cable work as I used it to successfully go back a couple of times before the reflashing of the modems and persist files. It also passes still without error but it'll reboot after it sets on the T-mobile boot up for a couple of minutes.

U can fix ur bricked device anytime with op 9 pro india msm but i would say if u want try global u shuld try msm conversion without unocking bootloader if problem exist flash 2115 a11 with fastboot enhance u will be out of bootloop i have been there solved it this way
Thanks so much for the reply. I downloaded an Indian 9 Pro firmware but I couldn't get it to flash. Is there a specific one? I used the one recommended in the main thread for unbricking, I thought but I've been trying so many things at this point its blurring together.
Is it possible to fastbootd flash when locked to a different model's firmware?

I did try this last night. I am able to flash this successfully, but it sends me into a bootloop.
Same as the original Tmo MSM did before I flashed the Indian 9 Pro MSM (I haven't had luck changing the Target back to something that will work with the original Tmo MSM file yet). With or without factory data reset, I get a bootloop on a Tmobile version of the MSM. Boots up fine with Indian 9 Pro.
I can also switch to global firmware with the official 1+ zip after it boots with the Indian MSM either via temp custom recovery or via local storage updates but it still leaves me with null IMEI and no baseband. I've tried to flash just the Tmo NON-HLOS.bin file in fastbootd while on the Indian firmware and just got a bootloop too. It definitely seems related to the me screwing up the baseband / radio situation but seems odd that the normal fixes aren't sticking. At least I got it to boot to something, but it's still unuseable.

Right, but I can go back to the Indian 9 Pro MSM then unlock. I just re-attempted the flash for the Tmobile MSM target IN and same - bootloop. It flashes everything successfully with no errors. I have tried with and without all of the boxes checked. It won't work with either Lite Firehose or SHA256 checked. Have flashed, reset, then flashed again. Doesn't seem to make much sense that one version will work but the actual one for my phone will not. I really, really dislike the T-Mobile variants of the past few 1+ phones. It really limits them and makes it a huge hassle to run anything custom.
I believe it is my EFS partition that is corrupted when I attempted to restore the modemst1 and modemst2 files through Partition Manager.
Update: I've fixed my baseband issues by fastboot wiping the modemst1 and 2 partitions. This has allowed me to now successfully flash and boot the Tmo firmware via the modded MSM for target IN. Now I am just left with repairing the IMEI which now reads 0.
Update 2: Was able to restore IMEI once I got the bootloader unlocked and reflashed my modemst1 and 2 with Fastboot Enhance.
Whew. Thanks for all the help!
