I'm looking for a way to update my tablet from android 4.2.2 to android 5 or higher, I'm trying to install an app, SuperDisplay, that requires android 5 so that I can use my tablet to better assist me in my classes and tutoring, I've tried other apps but they don't work or are very laggy due to being via wifi, SpaceDesk being one of them, since I already had this app(SuperDisplay) on my phone Asus Zenfone 4 Max and paid for it I was conting on not having to buy another tablet as well.
If there is any other way for me to install an app that requires android 5 on a device with android 4.2.2 I would also be very gratefull.
I've read in a few places that my tablet is equivalent to the PiPO M1 Pro, don't know if this helps in anything.
Thank you all in advance for your answers
What you want to achieve is to upgrade your tablet's Android.
This only can be done by means of a Custom Recovery what's suitable to the tablet. Once found a matching Custom Recovery you flash a Custom ROM what's suitable to the tablet by means of the flashed Custom Recovery.

Greetings all and thanks for any help offered.
I come from the world of pcs. I have several android devices, however have never tried to dive into the deeper workings of them. I am used to the pc world where if you want to install a new operating system you go buy or down load it then you install in. Brand of pc did not matter nor did the model. So I guess I am having a hard time understanding the concept of hardware specific roms. Can't I just get a stock kit kat rom and install it, and if not why not.
on another note does a stock kit kat rom even exist? All I find are things like cyanogen mod, or clockwork mod. I assume that these are essentially someone taking kitkat and adding stuff to it to customize it and then naming it.
I am looking to make a kindle fire hd look and feel like a nexus 7 with nothing but android 4.2.2 (or what even the number sequence is for the lates version of kitkat).
Thanks again for your replies

Getting a new OS (in this case we call these OS's: ROMs) on android is a little similar to PC installation it just has a few things we have to get past. so if you know what Linux is (another OS its almost like OSX for macs) that's what android is built upon the only problem is is that we don't have Admin access or in other words, super user, rooting your Android device gives you root/admin/SuperUser Access so there are lots more things you can customize about your device in this case a New operating system. Clockworkmod is almost like booting into your Bios on a computer, its pretty much a fail-safe if we break something or want to install (our way of installing is called "Flashing") a mod or a new OS.
Now there are a few different types of ROMs its all the personal preference on what you want most roms are AOSP which is pretty much Stock android (Nexus phones/tablet look) with a few mods here and there. Cyanogenmod is one of the type of roms as well (most popular), its is basically pure android with a little here and there stuff that you wouldn't need to worry about and i would recommend if you do flash a new ROM on any device i would start with Cyanogenmod first if its available, it has the most work put into it and is stable for the most part. (not that other ROMs developers don't put hard work into their own ROMs but still Cyanogenmod is getting bigger and bigger) be advised that flashing a new rom deletes all of your data, its just what we have to do to make the rom install properly, if you bought kindle books you can still get the books back by downloading the kindle fire app on the play store when you do get a new ROM. WARNING: DO NOT Flash roms that are for other devices, it will brick your tablet making it unrecoverable.
Seeing that the kindle fire hd is a very popular tablet and does have a few kitkat roms. (Android 4.2.2 is Jelly bean, Android 4.1 - 4.3 is jelly bean as well, Android 4.4 is kitkat) so pretty much it looks like the kindle fire hd has a locked bootloader which can be a problem but seeing that there is custom roms it must have been unlocked. a locked bootloader pretty much means we cannot flash a new OS but we are still able to root it. so pretty much see herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hd (there are two kindle fire HD's 7" and a 8.9" which is yours?) ask in the Q&A where you can start, i imagine you would need to do this stuff in this order: Unlock bootloader, Root the tablet, install a custom recovery (like Clockworkmod or TWRP) Wipe Data/Factory reset, Wipe Cache (these two actions are done in your recovery) flash a new Rom.
If you have any other questions or i left something out please ask

Do you have a kindle fire HD as well? Android is sorta open source sure we can root it and install new OS's and other mods but Google allows OEMs can lock boot-loaders and cause awful lot of mess by not letting us developers do anything. You CANNOT flash a rom that is not for your device, it has to do with the other Devices Specs.

Sorry dude....... But I just want to say that on PCs I just need windows or Linux or any os image...... And I can install it on any brand cpu ram motherboard........ It doesn't depend on brand..... Then why they made android or phone devices like this.... I m not saying that they would have make android free but.. It should be installable on all devices with better confg than minimum requirement.... Thats all.

that a little harder to explain, from what i think its mostly because of the CPU drivers, these ROMs are non professional, anyone can make a rom but its a harder to make your own OS for a computer. i cant explain the most part of it for you but we just cant do it right now. you sure can port roms but it has to be from a similar device with almost every spec the same.

I understand that the roms are not professional. That is why I asked for the "stock" kitkat as google released it. shouldn't the "stock google release work on any android device?? if not why not?? this is nothing like pc world ans mentioned above.
I have installed linux on pcs. It runs the installer and does its thing and a few minutes later you have a shiny new system to run. Why is this so different in the mobil environment since as you already mentioned android is essentially linux. None of this device specific ROM stuff makes any sense to me.

as for why Roms dont work on all devices and have to be made for specific only i cannot answer, i think it has to do with specs being so different, i think its the CPU that ruins it all because today there are so many different types of partitions for each kind of CPU given out, Rockchip, mediatek, samsung exynos, TI Omap, qualcomm there is quite a lot i cant list lol.
There sorta is a "Stock Google release" for some devices but that is only for Google play edition devices like a Samsung galaxy s4/HTC one M7/M8. if you bought a Non-Google play edition S4 or m7 you are able to install a official Google rom (different process not like flashing stuff in custom recovery's) please dont think that Just because Roms are non-professional does not mean that they are broken or dont work as good as stock material because Custom Roms most of the time get the bugs worked out and everyone is happy. i would recommend a custom rom over Stock kindle firmware, its very limited plus you dont have access to the google play store which has so much more stuff.
Hi, couple weeks ago I bought Acer Iconia One 7 B1-770-K476 NT.LBTAA.001. Seems that it is a new model and I can't find any info or faq how to make root on it. I tried different tools (framaroot, kingroot and others) but no success.
Also strange thing in setting (Apps), no option (button) to move app to SD card. Install some apps and tablet is full.
Will be glad for your help.
At first want to root it. Then need recovery to be able to use custom firmwares.
Thanks!
I used king root to root my tablet, but we gonna need a custom recovery to install xposed and be able to move apps to the sd
I also used kingroot to get root. The PC version, not the apk. To move apps to SDcard im using the paid version of Link2sd, the free one doesnt let you move the whole apps. I havent found any custom roms or recovery though.
carlosomar222, or unleashurfreak, can any of you elaborate?
I was unable to use KingRoot (PC version) because it never detected my tablet.
Where did you get the drivers?
You can find drivers on the acer support web site, but you can just try using the apk instead, its easier, by the way I managed to install xposed framework using flashfire that way you can run a module to use the SD card as internal storage , now we just need a custom recovery, i also replaced king root with super su using a script I found on a website, I can get the link if anyone is interested

The KingRoot APK did not work.
It was unable to find a solution for my device.
Could it possibly be because I have the latest update installed?
That's why I want to try the PC version instead.
Unfortunately, the drivers fail to install on my PC.
Are you also using B1-770?
Has anyone else successfully rooted this device?
And if you have, could you please share the steps you took to do so?
Really appreciated!
I also have a B1-770 with the latest update. The PC version of King Root failed.

Don't try to root b1-770 models, is brick your device.
I have tried many PC/APK rootkit, nothing work. For finish, I have returned the tablet on the store to get new one, OS have crashed (many errors with build-in apps, wifi problems, startup of device very long).
In my tests, I have found the reason of impossibility to root this tablet;
- Bootloader is locked
- No pre-root
- Android 5 have more security about rootkit
- Rootkit is only made for Android 4.x and lower
- Acer have added few security and reject all modifications on system files (with and without the Android protection)

For now, no. Many reason make it hard to root. is not impossible, but no right solution for this tablet.
Keep in mind...
- Android 4.x and lower have few security breach and can be rooted with many way; B1-770 is under Android 5.0.1
- Other Android device are pre-root (User on device is not root but if you connect by ADB, you have the root); B1-770 is not pre-root, SU is protected (trying modifing this files, and others make a crash when trying to update OS)
- Unlock bootloader, or unlocked bootloader can make easy root with right kit; B1-770 have a locked bootloader, Acer not offer any way to unlock it.
Is possible to root, but need a skill with Android OS, can compile your own Android OS version, insert root, and upload/replace it on the tablet. But you need to know what you made. You can also extract bootloader, modifing it, etc.... but need a high skill in Android security.
DON'T TRY FASTBOOT; Under ADB, you can reboot the device on Fastboot mode. But Windows not have the drivers for handle this mode. You need to Reset/reboot tablet for returning in Android OS (the hole between power and volume button).
I have searched many roots, because whant to move installed APP on my SD Card (with symlink), Android have removed this feature since 4.4.x (some devices have always this feature, is added by the developper). Rooting this tablet is totally unsafe; don't known if you loose some options of tablet (ex; my cell phone, if is rooted, camera stop working, with my other tablet, the wifi have some problems to keep connection long time).
My suggestion; wait a root and few comments about this before root. You must keep a unrooted tablet running good between a bricked tablet can't run anything.

Need to get some developers on it, sadly this always happens with this kind of devices, best bet is to wait for a new method for similar devices using the same chipset
Hey
I rooted my acer iconia b1 770!
Download king root v.4.5 and let it flow...
First off, I am a complete novice when it comes to rooting so please be gentle with me.
I have one of these Walmart HKC 7" tablets that I would like to use to experiment with in regards to rooting it and putting a newer OS on.
I did some checking around and tried rooting it with Kinkgo Root. It seems like it might have worked, but I have no clue. All the factory installed apps are still there and I would like to get rid of them cause I don't use them and want to free up the space.
How do I know that this tablet has been successfully rooted after running Kingo Root?
Secondly, once I get it rooted, i would like to update/upgrade the OS. Currently it is running Android 4.1.1 and I would like to get a new version for it, but I have no clue as to how any of updating/upgrading to a "Custom ROM" works.
Could someone be so kind as to guide me in the right direction so I can find step by step instructions as to how to update/upgrade to a custom ROM?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice/help/guidance/suggestions anyone has to offer . . .
To check if your device is rooted download root checker from play store then open it, and click check. For the custom rom you need a custom recovery that allows you to install zip from SD card/ internal space or make a backup of your system. So search on internet cwm Walmart HKC 7" and then search Walmart HKC 7" rom

It doesn't seem that there is any custom ROM for your tablet.
To see if you are rooted download and run this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=ro
If you are not rooted you can try towelroot (will most likely work). Download this app and make it ra1n: https://towelroot.com/ (to download press the Lambda).
Thanks for the replies.
I have downloaded the root check app as suggested. After installing it and running it, the app indicates that this particular tablet has been in fact rooted.
I have also done a search as joe2k01 suggested and only found one thread regarding this tablet (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297246). After reading through the thread, I have no clue as to what this thread is about or whether this is what I am looking for or not.
Since it does not appear that there are any custom ROM's available for this particular tablet, is it possible to find and utilize a "universal" type of Custom ROM?
If this is possible, is there anyone who can suggest such a universal custom ROM that will or might work on this tablet?
Again, thanks in advance for any and all advice, suggestions or input.

Thank you joe.
Since this is one of those Walmart HKC 7" tablets, can you suggest where or how I might find something similar in order to find a custom ROM for this thing?
Would it be appropriate to ask this in the Android Operating Systems forum?
To find a device similar to your you need to know the model number of your tablet, after that you have to search on internet "Model Number" ROM (w/o "). You can also search " Model Number" needrom (w/o "). Needrom is a website where you can find a lot of custom rom.
Hi everyone ,
I have a hipstreet 7DTB25 i manage to root it using kingo root (1 clic tool) and to remove the kingo super user to replace it by SuperSU. But now im facing a problem i want to install a custom rom but even after searching google ,xda and cyanogen website im still mystified. I got a couple question :
1) Is there a compatible rom with my device ? If yes, how can you tell?
i've looked to CM 11.0 M7 it is build on android 4.4.2 which my device runs on now (btw i dont trust it to be a clean install since there was a lolipop sticker covered by a kit kat one on the box ) ive search about it but it dont say nothing on my device, i try to look at cyanogenmod site but i've found nothing. And since i have really slow download speed and dont want to break my hardware for nothing i want to get informed before doing anything
2)Did using cwr (clockwork recovery) is correct to flash something on my device (if i could find anything to flash)
i've install it once was running great and making reboot in recovery so i suppose the answer to be yes but i dont really know ,the only weird thing i noticed was that i cannot back up anything
3)How can you tell if a website that offer custom rom are reliable? (Except xda, i know that one  )
4)If im not able at all to flash a custom rom is there a possibility of changing a stock rom to another?
Thanks
Hi, I bricked mine.. are you able to tell me where to get the ROM and twrp? Thanks.
does anyone sell a tablet that's "rooted" out of the box, so i don't have to go through all that mess?
if not, and this question may make no sense, but which are the most easily rooted?
i want to keep stock firmware, etc, but it's my bloody tablet and i'll not have it crippled.

Another option would be to buy a tablet that has MTK(MediaTek) chipset. There are PC tools that unlock bootloader and root the device plus they are one of the easiest devices to build a custom recovery for, there are even tools that just about automate the recovery building process.
Porting ROMs from other MTK devices with the exact same chipset shouldn't be too difficult either. Just make sure you choose a tablet that has the stock firmware available to download from somewhere, a copy of stock firmware and the tools to flash it are very important to have when using/modifying a rooted device just in case something goes wrong when modifying the device.
