Double tap screen lock not working. Phone wakes up after double tapping but does not lock when the screen is on

You need to also set the double tap to sleep/wake in the POCO launcher as well.
For unknown reason Xiaomi had 2 separate settings for double tap to wake/sleep. You need both turned on.
For double tap to sleep, you need to minimize to launcher and then double tap a blank space in launcher.
You should use Poco Launcher. Any other may not work, like lawnchair launcher. Anyway, with Nova launcher double tap to on/off screen works, but you should give administrator and aceessibility permissions.

I like to have double-tab on home button to turn screen off, is that available on stock?
I know you can configure double-tab on screen to turn screen off, but I use Nova launcher, and the double tab action is probably controlled by Nova. If I use Nova double tab gesture, then I can't unlock with fingerprint...
Or any suggestion to turn screen off without pressing the power button?
U would need a custom rom
in LeeDrOiD ROM there is a option: Always Allow Fingerprint Unlock
Double tap in Nova launcher is configurable in the way it does not conflict with fingerprint unlock. I know it is possible cause I use it but I do not know how to configure it anymore

is there this function? clicking in icon on ambient display, opens the relative app or simply unlock phone?

Yes, it does have double tap to wake and also double tap to sleep, I use it all the time, but I don't use the ambient display feature (useless). However, please note that it does not unlock the phone, only wakes it up, you will then need to enter the PIN or fingerprint.
I have updated to android 10 Beta, with nolimits.xxx rom modul. It works like a charm, but for the first time I tried gestures for navigation.. I love it, but I have a problem.. Before when I had buttons enabled, I had back button for turning off the screen after use (double tap). How do you guys solve this problem with gestures? Is it possible to make double tap on home screen to screen off, or maybe swipe some gesture... Please let me know your solutions
On home screen, long tap and go to settings (Launcher settings), there should be an option to lock if double tap (at least it's there on Android 10)

The closest thing I have gotten working is double tap to sleep (via Nova Launcher settings). But I don't think there's any way to enable double tap to wake on this phone.
You can double tap the finger print sensor to wake the phone...... But not the screen.
Thought it might be because I use Nova Launcher Prime, so, uninstalled it, rebooted. in the motions & gestures
both are turned on, but only double tap to wake works.
Same thing happens when I tried Nova Launcher. Double tap to wake works, but double tap to sleep only works
if it is the one that requires you to use the PIN to wake up. The other option in the Nova Launcher brings up
something else.

Found the problem. I could swear I had it set on the phone, but apparently it wasn't. Even though Nova Launcher had it set, it wouldn't work without the one on the phone also turned on. Duh!
In Nova Launcher, you need to allow it to modify system settings. After setting double tap to wake in Nova, when you double tap the mon, there should be a pop up to let you confirm Nova to apply double tap to wake.
