Paul (or anyone who knows)...
How close are you to a Beta version of your ICS port for the OG Transformer?
I think you have done more than anyone in trying to get this stable before Asus releases their version, and definitely offer a way to get Root on the TF101 ICS.
I really just wanted to start a thread that would allow for Version updates to your port, where people can see a status from the developer himself!
Thanks!
Jeff

Well, I reflect on that often. I think I've developed a lot in my 22 years and am certainly close to feature complete. There have been a few big changes in the past couple years of life that make me a little nervous to apply the beta tag just yet, but it's close.

Oh right, the ROM. Beta is a blurry line, I may not even use it and just keep incrementally improving it until it feels like RC time (and when I say RC I mean a build I actually consider suitable for final release, not the linux "release candidate but we'd never actually consider releasing this" terminology). I think once I get libsensors & libcamera written the hardware support will all be there at least in a basic form and then polishing and fixing smaller things will improve it quickly. I'm hesitant to put a timescale on it - I can't spend the time of a full time job on this and the time I do spend on it is a little sporadic. I'd hope to have sensors working within the next week or so, if that helps. I'm also planning to look at doing OTA updates of some sort now that it's basically usable for common tasks (for some people), to keep people updated easier and perhaps lighten the load on my web host by doing deltas.
I apologise for the terrible joke above...
Without access to the full source code for the drivers, any ROM based off of generic Android will never be Beta or better...
Paul's ICS port is from the standard Google ASOP tree, with lashed in binaries from other sources. What Asus deliver will be built for the specific platform.
There is a HUGE difference.
My experience of Paul's ICS was quite good, the biggest gripe for me, was the REALLY choppy sound playback, which was a deal-breaker for me, and I went back to honeycomb.
im not to sure about the binaries just being ported in i think paul is writting a whole lot of his own stuff, i could be wrong tho. i read a txt where he talked about writting his own drivers for everything cuz asus code is sloppy, he said he would prefer write his own than just plug in binaries.

Umm, with all due respect - you're wrong. Asus aren't necessary. The only things remaining as binaries are the graphics drivers and they're from nvidia.

So Asus have released the sources for ICS Wifi, Bluetooth, Audio, Camera and sensor drivers?
That's news to me, or are using using the honeycomb sources and patching them up with sticking plasters to work with ICS?

No they haven't. What I'm saying is that they don't need to - I can just write them myself. Some of those are open anyway (wifi, bluetooth) and don't come from asus. Little asus addons like setting up the MAC address are easy to reverse engineer and rewrite (and MAC for example is done like that). libaudio I've already written but obviously there's a bug in the buffer management somewhere which causes the skips, and input still needs doing. libsensors won't be too much work, and libcamera shouldn't be huge either.
People outside of asus can write code too

Just a side note (and I'm not I repeat not complaing about this thread) for those who are asking for updates (nobody asked for updates here) about Paul's releases you should find them when they appear. It does not make it easier for him to complete them if he has to answer a zillion posts about when it will be ready (still not complaining) for release. Think about this...... he could be watching tv or going to the pub or doing stuff that he really needs to do like school (still not complaining) instead of coding.
Again I would like to emphasize that I am not complaining about this.

Hey Paul,
Just wanting to keep everyone up to date...
Could you give us a status of what still is not working with your latest release Spark?
Now that you have a name for your rom, and have replaced the original warning with your new one, would you say this release is usable for most things?
Thanks a ton for your work...who needs Asus, we got Paul !!
This is the cmc compiler, so if anyone is really wanting cyanogen, but is not a real *nix person, but had ubuntu installed, go grab this and check it out. I just pulled it down a little while ago and I am playing with it as I write this.
It is pretty slick.
Let's try and figure this thing out, and see if just maybe we can get some version of CM working.

If you actually install and run it, it says when you go to select your device, that later in the gui, that you CAN work with unsupported devices, it has been updated a lot. I found an article on the main XDA site that said about a month ago, that this was sort of abandoned, but now it is back in full force with a ton of unlisted updates.
I am syncing repos with it right now, and it is FAST.
P.S. it seems to be much like my script, only that it is in GUI form, for the less "command line" savy, that is why I thought it might get a few others interested in this.
Looks interesting Going to check it out tomorrow......
I've been thinking about dusting off my over-a-decade ago linux skills to work on this some in my free time. This just made it easier to get off my butt.
Thanks, Jim.
I have an old shift...and my son loves to play games and music on it, like me he loves tech. stuff....My question....is there anyway someone could construct something with all the phone, contacts, etc. out of it?...and just have access to music and google play for gaming....I tried, but got foreclosures everywhere. ..Thanx, if someone may find time as im sure others would be interested in this as well....
I can give it a shot. What ROM are you interested in moding?

Well I spent a lot of time trying to put something together yesterday using Provision and so far I haven't been able to put anything together I like. As a short cut you can get Titanium Backup Pro and freeze the contacts and messaging apps. (Only those two!) That'll hide the dialer, messaging and contacts apps. There is a ROM like what we are talking about here for the EVO 4g. I'll read through what the dev of that ROM did to make it work. Maybe it can be ported.

PROJECT ABANDONED AS OF 11/27/2016
I have little knowledge on how to get this rom working. If someone would like to take over then start a new thread. On top of this, it's currently unclear the state of the Ubuntu Touch project as a whole.
Welcome to Ubuntu Touch for Nook HD

If you run into the same problem I did with not being able to get past the intro screen, reboot into CWM, adb pull /data/ubuntu/usr/share/dbus-1/interfaces/com.canonical.unity.AccountsService.xml, find the line that says
Code:
<property name="demo-edges" type="b" access="readwrite">
<annotation name="org.freedesktop.Accounts.DefaultValue" value="true"/>
</property>
and change the value to "false", push the file back to the same location, and reboot.
I'm still working on getting touch fixed properly, also accelerometer as that doesn't work either.

Just that it's exciting to see some more ROMS popping up for this (these) device(s). Good luck, I hope you get it running, and that it inspires somebody to do the same for HD+.

My system began crashing today, I'm not sure why. Something to do with xorg but it locks up before I can fully figure out the issue. I'll try cleaning the dust from the fan inside my laptop to see if it could be a overheating issue.

You're in good company, at least. (FWIW)... KillerSloth has horrible troubles with his laptop too. The laptops are possibly rebelling against compiling OS's for different platforms? Who knows what's going on?
I can't wait to try this!
From my experience, most laptops cooling systems are not designed to cool the cpu adequately when doing things that stress the cpu as severely as compiling roms. But my suggestion would be to clean out your fan and heatsink as best you can. If your technically inclined and can find a good tutorial on taking your laptop apart I'd do it to really clean it out. You'll be amazed by how much dust can get up in there. You could also clean wipe the laptop and reinstall Linux fresh which could solve your xorg problems.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Those xorg issues are incompatible driver issues I believe.
Reinstall clean and setup build environment. Try to refrain from recommended updates after you get everything working right lol
Not sure if I ever sent the PM, but you can add that wpa supplicant tree to your manifest for simplicity.
Any other build errors/issues I can probably walk you through too, I've seen them all lol especially with these nooks now

If you can get this booting I'd be happy to know what you did. All of my build attempts since they did the flip have been unsuccessful and I do not apparently have the know-how to get it working (it boot loops on my HD+ and Nook Tablet, both of which seem to actually turn off briefly so I can't pull any logs). Good luck and hopefully your computer gets going again

Unless you already figured out how to get it to boot I would focus on that issue first - that of booting - though I suppose you could build for the non-flipped old builds of touch but that won't do much good really. The audio fix is minor compared.
When the ubuntu images were flipped the ability to get a working bootable build became more difficult. It should be rather easy for someone who knows what they are doing with ubuntu touch and possibly a rom dev or similiar but otherwise its quite confusing. The guide says they will update it to explain the needed info and some stuff is explained somewhat at the top.
I've made a lot of boot.img tests which did nothing and then looked into lxc (found inside the touch zip) is very important to booting but haven't felt like doing anything else. Lxc and boot.img need to be repackaged with additional device specific code at this point in time from what I understand... in order to get it to boot.

I think you're being a bit harsh to the guy tbh, he was just trying to provide a service, if he had actually mentioned @legolas93 then I bet you wouldn't have slated him?
Anyway, good work @LiquidSmokeX64 with providing your service. Well, yeah, it probably sounded harsher than I wanted. I'm sorry, I mean no disrespect and wish to support people who actively participate in Android development. On the other hand, I still don't think this work is original enough to justify its own thread. Anyway, mentioning @legolas93 in the OP and perhaps adding a message encouraging people to buy his app would be appropriate here.
To end this on a more friendly note, please, don't stop developing and bring us something awesome
I edited the post to encourage buying the app and am going to be intentionally late with the nightlies as well.
As far as development goes. I'd like to get into it again but I only know how to edit a few things in the build.prop, and updater script.
Besides that adding a few apps is no big deal lol.
I'd like to actually figure out the good stuff but sadly have no clue how to go about learning that stuff. I'm just a regular guy trying to do what I can for the community where I think I can be of some use.

Well if I can't get a way to convert from my computer using some OS this thread may be dead before it even gets going...
Dropped my N7 off a roof... needless to say it didn't survive. But if something can get figured out I'll still build for this device even without my own lol.
OK. Back up and running. Found a tool i can use on windows to do this. Have credited accordingly, for this is almost no work on my part besides the thread.
So sweet deal. I'm open to suggestions for a better kernel if needed.
So what kernel does this new method use? I'm really curious, just can't see for myself

Ok ROM is finally out of hiding. Soon as AFH stops being weird and not letting me upload for some reason I will have it up.
Prepare for some nice advanced features here . The folks in EVO 4G LTE seem to enjoy it so far. Last release before project rename had 56 DLs in a couple days with only one complaint that got fixed this time around.
