Snapdragon or Exynos in 2021? - Samsung Galaxy S10e Questions & Answers

I am thinking of replacing my LG V30+ with S10e.
I am in Europe (easy access to Exynos), but can also import from US (Snapdragon).
Which is the better option in 2021? I need root, great camera performance and battery life. Custom ROMs are not a must.

you can't unlock bootloader of US version by yourself, so getting root is not easy...
S10e Exynos version has poor battery life...

Does it really? How poor?
In my experience the Exynos model always had the better battery life but worse performance (not even by much....unless you gamed. you hardly noticed it)

I bought both the Exynos and Snapdragon model. Took them on a road trip across the US last year and this is what I found:
Exynos is much easier to root then Snapdragon.
Exynos has a lot of ROM development options. Snapdragon not so much.
Both are similar in speed and battery life.
Cameras are indistinguishable, at least to me.
Cell tower coverage on the Snapdragon was much better than on the Exynos, which lacks several LTE bands used by US carriers. Interestingly, the Snapdragon model seems to include all of the European bands, according to data from www.frequencycheck.com and www.GSMArena.com.
If you care a lot about ROM options, choose Exynos.
If you live in Europe and don't plan to move to the United States, choose Exynos.
I really don't see any reasons to pick Snapdragon, unless you live over here and need those extra LTE bands. I spend so much time tweaking my Snapdragon model because there's literally no ROM development.
Or, just get a Pixel 5 and don't worry about silly Samsung geographic bootloader restrictions and differing LTE bands.

What do you mean by this?
I thought of a pixel 4a but the s10e is slightly better

Thanks!
But on Exynos, you cannot use GCam, right?

Which Galaxy S 2?

There are so many versions to choose from.
I am looking for the one with the fastest GPU and that can work on GSM networks.
From what I can see, T-Mobile version has a dual core 1.5 ghz.
What advice can you give me?
I am looking for a beefier batterry as well
It would depend on who you're carrier is I would assume. If you're within the States and you have Sprint you're stuck with their version, obviously. If you're outside the States, I would take the T-Mobile version. 1.5Ghz as opposed to 1.2GHz and the battery of the tmobile version is 1850mAh as opposed to 1650mAh...but I would think you can get extended batteries and backs for either s2.
Depends which carrier. If you're on T-Mobile US you have to get the T-Mobile version because the other ones don't support it's 3G bands.
If you're on AT&T you can either get the international version, or the AT&T branded version, or the Skyrocket, or the Skyrocket HD, etc.. All models are effectively the same. The T-Mobile version has a "faster" CPU clock speed wise, but it benchmarks much lower than the international GSM version with Exynos in it.
Here's the phone arena listing for all the models: http://www.phonearena.com/search/section/new-phones/term/Galaxy+S+II
They're all effectively the same inside. The differences are that 1) some have LTE and 2) some have an HD screen (but are more expensive). If you want the most basic, cheapest, model then get the i9100 version. That's the original unlocked model. You'll run on AT&T fine and its been out the longest.
In the screenshot, I've highlighted the AT&T capable models in Blue, T-Mobile in Pink, and Sprint in Yellow.
^ now thats how you answer a question lol
I am on GSM. Vodafone to be exact. From what I can see I can't see anything on sale rather than the i9100 version, being in europe.
I have later seen the Skyrocket and tmobile version. Why do they score lower? THey have the higher clock speed and the adreno 220 that according to benchmarks wipes the floor with any exynos or mali on other s2's.

The exynos processor alone rapes the snapdragons (especially just looking at benchmarks), which is what the 42mbps HSPA+ (T-Mo) and LTE (Skyrocket) versions have in order to support those radios. Exynos has limited radio support so that's why you only see it in the basic 850/1900 GSM devices, like the i9100 and base AT&T model.
If you're in Europe you have no need for LTE, so just check the i9100 it'll have the lowest price in that area. The T-Mo version won't work for you (wrong frequencies unless you do some hackery) and the SII HD isn't really available yet. And at that point you might as well just buy a Galaxy Nexus.
Yes, it has the lowest price but I was fooled by the ghz. Thanks for the heads up.
If you're still here and you talk so well about sgs2 why did you get a nexus?

[Q] Which Galaxy Note version has the highest overall performance?

Hello. I read that there are several Galaxy Note versions. Could you please let me know which is the best? I live in Asia but I can get any version I want. I also want to get a SIM lock free version that can be used in many different countries worldwide. I do not plan to buy from a carrier.
On the net, some mentioned that the Qualcomm APQ8060 Snapdragon S3 (1.5GHz dual processor) is LTE capable. Although the communication speed and the processor clock are higher than the ones with the Exynos 1.4 Dual 4210 processor (so called International version?), it comes with a slower GPU. As a result, the overall performance is not as good as the Exynos version. However, in other posts, some people mentioned that the Qualcomm/Snapdragon version is better. Who is correct?
Also, which version's battery lasts longer?
Any opinion appreciated.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra N986U1 or N9860 in UK.

Hello, I'd buy Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with Snapdragon chipset. But now is complicated. I don't know which one is better to buy N986U1 or N9860? I'll not root phone, even if I'll root than no problem with USA variant to unlock bootloader (xda-developers I read one thread samsung pwned). Other thing is 5G. Will it work in UK or not? I read tutorial how to enable all bands on LTE, 5G via service menu, so maybe will work. I'll be happy if FM radio works.
N9860 (TGY - Hong Kong) should work with 5G on the Three network in the UK, probably also with Vodafone. Definitely not with EE. Not much feedback about O2.
But the N9860 is getting appalling support from Samsung. No Android 11 yet and still stuck on November security updates. When updates are released they can undo service menu changes required to enable 4G+.
I can't comment on how the experience might be in the UK with the US versions, but so far I'm not impressed with Samsung and this phone. The hardware is great. The imported software support is a scandal. I would probably not risk importing again.
Thanks for repley. Maybe now doesn't makes a sense between Snapdragon and Exynos variant. Most S10 Plus, Note 10 Plus previously been imported from USA. But for Note 20 Ultra is absolutely different more from China. What is the reason for it. Because bootloader vy default can be unlocked or something specific. I'm using EE. So if 5G doesn't work I'll not worry so much.
I get up to 200 Mbps on EE with 4G+ and I'm really not sure whether the 5G coverage extends to my neighbourhood, so I'm not fussed that 5G does not work for me. I tried to find signal where it is claimed to exist and got nothing. 4G+ coverage is very good for me though, so happy days.
I don't know why it does not work. The required bands are supported and I've tested with 5G SIMs from EE, 3 and Voxi. I've contacted EE support and Samsung (UK) support and nobody gives a **** as the phone is imported.
My only real beef is the complete lack of updates. My S10+ is more up to date than this N9860. I have no idea why Samsung are dragging their feet over this specific model.
I will say this the N986U1 do get updates frequently and I'll the specs far as signals in your area

Thanks, I had Note 10 Plus with Snapdragon USA for short time and coverage was very better than with Exynos. With Snapdragon signal was perfect but with Exynos was weak and many times impossible to make calls.

Yea I had the Exynos Note 9 and the signal sucked in the US
Thanks for repley, so, I bought Note 20 Ultra USA variant.
N9860 has got Android 11 on Feb 3rd. And it is amazing.
Phone recieved and I'm happy with it. Flashed XAA U1 and no problem at all. Only for the moment is it issue on my side or phone, but ebay app doesn't work. It says:"
Try searching for something above or tap "Reload" to try again. Rest apps works without issues.
Update: I believe it was ebay issue. eBay app working now. All is perfect.

Question does the exynos model get 5g in the US?

Cause I bought a exynos note 20 ultra last year off amazon and it could only get to lte but not 5g and I got it to get 5g and be able to root. So I returned it and just got a snapdragon version and just lived without root which is honestly fine btw. Will the same thing happen if I buy an exynos s22 ultra? Or can the snapdragon version be rooted this time? Pls don't yell at me if this has been asked but the search bar here is confusing and I'm baked af

Well, not knowing which carrier you use, I don't know what else to say.... Perhaps take a look at the source the next time you're not "Baked AF".....
No ill will intended, but, if you give the site a good look, you'll be able to figure it out.

The most reliable way to ensure your device will support 5G is aquire your Service Provider's device.
Typically with the Exynos variants you can access root but since it's a brand new version ask a Exynos user if bootloader unlock is available in developer options. If you're going to be in US it probably won't connect.
Again typlically only the Snapdragon version from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong (SM-G9080) will offer unlocking the bootloader. If you're going to be in US it probably won't connect.
Be aware OneUI 4.1 may have eliminated bootloader unlock.

Thanks bud, what a gentleman I have tmobile in the US. So your saying if I get a tmobile exynos I can have 5g in the US no prob? And is snapdragon s22 ultra rootable or is it just the exynos version?

The T-Mobile device is a Snapdragon variant, if that's your carrier and you need 5G it's your best option. The T-Mobile device, if it's the same as it's predecessor the S21 Ultra, can't be rooted. T-Mobile only sells Snapdragon variants.
My experience with a HK s21 ultra that has the same bands as exynos s21 is that 5G doesn't work in the US asot didn't have
the key 5G bands. On TMobile it sometimes says 5G as the device has one if the bands tmob uses for 5G in the US but it's phantom, and you only get 4G.

Yep, I have the SM-G9980 on T-Mobile and Network Mode displays 5G but it never connects. For me 5G is close to useless and I'd rather not have T-mobile's bloatware and prefer the unlocked bootloader. Not to mention no long term carrier commitment if you're looking for a discount on a new device.

Question What about Updates on the Snapdragon Edition ?

Hi there !
As we all know, most of the people having the Exynos variant are facing huhge problems related to performance and battery drain.
I could probably import an (unbranded) S22 Ultra with a Snapdragon Processor from Hong Kong.
Before doing this, i wanted to know :
- if the device will work perfectly in Europe (Luxembourg, Germany & France)
- i read that i might not get the updates as fast as on my european exynos variant.. is that true ?
Kind regards,
Valy
I hope to create a thread for that.
As far as I know, both Models, SD and Exynos, supports all 3G, 4G and 5G bands. You can double check that, but if it supports all bands, you can use all around the world.
About updates, Exynos is Samsung processor and it is normal to get updates first. You have to check if China CSC is fast in updates.
