Since there is no TWRP for op8t, I'm trying to figure out how to switch roms without wiping user data. TWRP does this with the Factory Reset option. Anyone know which folders are deleted with TWRP Factory Reset? I tried /system/data/data but the phone got stuck on Android is updating... after starting.

What does factory reset in Sense settings actually do and is it the same as Factory reset in the bootloader menu? I'm asking because I was told by HTC support to do a factory reset even when I told them that I have successfully installed two different RUUs. Will the factory reset make any changes that the installation of an RUU doesn't make?

I'm currently running custom rom Android Revolution hd 3.6.9 - if I want to reformat and reinstall the rom, since I have so many apps already, and I just want to refresh, can I just hit settings / SD & Phone storage / Factory Data Reset?
Or do I need to re flash the same custom rom under recovery?

factory reset simply takes the rom at the state where it bootet the 1st time. the rom you have installed that is. so yes you can use it as a frest start, no need to flash it again. it doesnt do any changes that shouldnt be there. just puts the phone on it's initial state where your current rom booted the first time.

So I tried installing a rom and did a factory reset deleting everything (including the OS). I did root the phone but something went wrong so I factory reset it. Now when I press the power button I get the "google" black screen and nothing. I then shut it down and went to the bootloader. I stupidly forgot to recover my old stuff like an idiot and now the phone has OS.
Can you help me with a step by step guide to restore this phone?
Flash the factory image to get it back to stock (see nice, big sticky thread in General), then try again

Factory reset is a misnomer, as it does not restore the phone to its factory state. All factory reset does is erase the data partition (along with cache and internal storage obviously). Any changes you make to the system ROM, kernel, recovery, etc. persist after a factory reset. The only way to restore the phone to its factory state is to flash the factory image. Refer to the tutorial to flash the factory image. Next time do your homework before you start tinkering.
No matter what rom i'm running I get random reboots. I even took the update from Verizon to 4.4.3 and still recived random reboots. Is this just me? I have also ran safe mode and get them.
Have you tried a factory reset?. If not try that. Don't do it from security settings though. Do it through fasboot. Just be sire to save anything you don't want to lose.
Yes and have tried multiple roms. IT does it not matter what rom or what settings I have.
Sounds like a complete wipe via fastboot may be your only fix. Just be sure to back up all the stuff youbwanna save cause it gonna wipe it clean. I am stock and was having same issue did the reset and everything fine now. I however forgot to make a back up lol

Make sure quick boot is turned off in battery settings. Then power down device. Power back on holding down volume and power. Your phone will boot to a white screen. Then use volume down to cycle to factory reset. Only thing is I'm not entirely sure what it will do to s-off and unlocked bootloader. You may want to Google that and see what it says
I've had my m8 for several weeks and never had a random reboot, that's on both stock and custom Rom. If the factory reset doesn't fix it, you may have a hardware issue

Better: You should not try a factory reset from settings if you have a custom recovery installed. It can lead to unintended consequences......
And why would you? That's what a recovery is for! TWRP and CWM both have the factory reset option, which basically just wipes /data (without /data/media), cache and Dalvik. And that's what you need 95% of the time. For the rest format data.
A factory reset doesnt clear everything. I have done a few and nothing ever seems to be reset. When I did it from hboot I was required to set up phone again as if it had just been powered on for the first time.

For the record,twrp wipe was what I was referring to when I said factory reset. I thought about saying wipe, but was afraid of how that might be interpreted.

A factory reset in TWRP (at least on every version I've used) wipes /data without wiping /data/media, cache and Dalvik.
Meaning it wipes all your apps and settings without wiping your personal files, but rquiring ou to go through setup again. Just did exactly that before installing CleanROM 2.0. If you had a different result I don't know which option in TWRP you chose.....
After searching through countless threads on this site, I've had no avail in resetting my Rogers Samsung Galaxy S6 running XtreStoLite 2.2.
A little while ago, I thought it would be a good idea to encrypt my phone with a custom ROM installed. I knew I had recovery and download mode, so I thought It'd be no biggie. Left the phone on overnight encrypting, came back 24 hours later and knew that it hung somewhere. Booted it up and this screen came up: Reset it and restored from TWRP backup, the same screen right here came up: http ://i.imgur.com/J37aZaq .png (sorry XDA will not let me post links, remove spaces) after this, I tried pressing the "reset device" button without success. It just rebooted the phone. Tried to restore from a different backup, no avail, then I tried to flash my custom ROM again through TWRP, no avail. I download ODIN and flashed stock Samsung firmware onto it and it still gave me this screen when I was done. Tried going into TWRP and factory resetting (where it wipes all partitions) and nothing happened. Currently, I'm trying to flash my Samsung Galaxy S6 with the stock firmware through ODIN with the "re-parition" box checked.
It seems there's a hardware flag of some sort stopping this from working. I mean, my file system is brand new, reset to factory defaults, I even checked with ADB and everything has been formatted. Checked with TWRP file manager and everything is good. But I can't get past the "Encryption Failed" screen.

Hi, i am encountering the same problem with my G920F.
I have the XtreStoLite_Deo_Mod_v.2.3 and also TWRP installed
I started encrypting but it got stuck so i rebooted my phone and got the same message (Encryption failed, please do a factory reset). So i did the reset but the same screen appeared. I also tried restoring from a back-up from TWRP but the same screen was still there. So i decided to do a full wipe and restore the phone with a twrp back up witch was on my laptop. But when i am in TWRP i can not copy files to (or from) my phone. So it is not possible to get the backup on my phone. I am able to get in to download mode and connect the phone with odin.
My questions are :
- what was the solution to the problem?
- What causes the copying error? And what is the solution? So i can put the backup on my phone and try to restore it this way.
- What are my option with odin? Can i use the TWRP files in odin?

Solved the issue. After a full wipe i installed a stock firmware with odin. It still displayed encryption failed after reboot. But after the factory reset the notification was gone.
I have fixed this
Best solution is on a stock rom to reset. If rooted with recovery -format and wipe all data, reset, let sit at boot for a while, go into recovery and install new rom from USB-OTG, or odin from download mode.
So I gave my old Nexus 5 to a friend and wanted to wipe the phone data.
The phone was rooted with supersu and xposed installed.
I did a "factory data reset" (under the "settings -> backup & reset" menu, NOT via the bootloader menu), and after it was done it rebooted into the new phone startup wizard mode. My friend then proceeded logging in under his Google account, and everything looked fine.
Today he tells me after taking a picture he saw that my whole photo collection was still on the phone. Why? It can't come from the cloud because this session never logged on my Google account.
Now I wonder what else stayed on the phone? I guess the Music folder, apart that anything I should worry about? Any way to flush everything that comes from my installation without my friend losing his current installation?

Reset from the ROM settings will work to fully wipe the phone if it's running a stock recovery. With twrp installed, you need to wipe from twrp.

Ok, but now that I don't have access to the phone anymore, do you know if there's a list of what was deleted and what was kept? Apps, launcher theme and customization, application settings were indeed removed. But what about call and sms history? Saved passwords / searchi history? Download/Music directories?
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what would and would not be kept with a TWRP reset from the ROM settings.
Safest thing to do would be to boot into TWRP, perform a wipe of the data and cache, and then reboot. This will require the person to set up the phone again.
