I was sure there were guides on how to update official OOS rom when unlocked and rooted but I can't seem to find a thread anywhere.
Does anyone know if there are steps needed when upgrading using OTAs or another route using maybe fastboot to upgrade the stock rom?

The AT&T D850 is TOT method only that's why there's no kdz at all. Only official lollipop you can get is to insert an AT&T sim.

You cannot update it with a tot file. As there's only KitKat. Your only way is to have an AT&T sim or root / custom rom. Or it might be possible to root and load the update file. Never done the img update file before but if it can be done it would be in the general section.

Thanku.
But is this a custom rom or stock rom?
How to install twrp recovery?
Even in future if any updates were released then i need to install either with sim card or flashing custom roms for my at&t model?
if you're going to go through the effort of rooting your phone you might as well install twrp which instructions you can find on these forums or even on twrp website I believe. the link clearly states that it is a stock rom. furthermore the guy was even nice enough to include his own instructions! what more could you ask for.
a little reading goes a long way. personally, I would vote to stick with a stock rom like the one linked above as it will be most stable and support all the features of the phone out of the box.
once a 6.0 rom is released for the d850 it will be real easy for you to wipe and flash that to upgrade again.
Hey guys! So I have a few questions about the oneplus one here, I'm checking for a friend and I always had a nexus where matching firmware doesn't really matter much. So here they are.
1) What happens if you have the wrong firmware for a rom? Softbrick? Hardbrick? Nothing at all?
2) For a Nougat rom, what firmware do you use? Since this phone hasn't got an official firmware update for Nougat yet.
3) Is there a special recovery here on XDA that can flash all roms? (there was one for the oneplus two) or is TWRP good for all roms?
What confuses me the most about oneplus devices is how the firmware works different from most Android devices. Thanks guys!

Thanks! So it's not as important as it seems? I notice some roms here on XDA specifically say to have the newest firmware, or a certain version. The rom is still expected to boot? And what's the worst case scenario? A soft brick that can be easily fixed with TWRP or something worse? Thanks for the reply! Like I said, I'm coming from a Nexus 6 where none of this firmware stuff really applies

Yes the rom is a still expected to boot, though, the recommended frimware is to be used so as to avoid any bugs.
However, some roms do require the recommended frimware in order to boot but I don't think even if flash any rom which needs recommended frimware will take you in any kind of brick condition as when you flash a rom on incompatible frimware you'll see error in Twrp,if so happens you just need to have recommended frimware in your storage and flash it then flash the rom again and you'll not face any errors.
Good luck!

1. If you are using TWRP, nothing will happens. Because when you flash a ROM, TWRP will comparing your phone model with build.prop on the targeted ROM. Because based on my experience, somehow i download LineageOS for d802 and flash it to my bacon. TWRP gives an error and didn't flash any firmware. I don't know about CWM or other recovery
2. I'm using Lineage OS. It's pretty good so far. No bug or whatever
3. TWRP is good for all ROM. i think any recovery will do

but there's plenty more here on XDA.
You have to wait for TWRP to be updated to support the AQG5 bootloader, or install any of the AQG5 custom roms found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/samsung-galaxy-s8--s8-cross-device-development while using the AQF7 bootloader.

Are you saying this is not valid?
Plus if he's got an Exynos S8+, doesn't the S8+ TWRP already work on his phone? IF he also wants TWRP and not just root, he says. I'm not aware of any restrictions on TWRP for S8 Plus as long as he has Exynos, which he does. Yes, he's posting in the wrong forum (S8 instead of S8+), but other than that, please educate me where I'm wrong.

Besides the answers I posted for you above to root and to also install TWRP if you want, you should post over in the correct forum
Samsung Galaxy S8+
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+
You have a Galaxy S8 Plus, not a Galaxy S8. That forum is dedicated to same device you have, and more people will be there to help you even more. But the two links I posted should help you root your S8+ and/or you can install TWRP and root. With TWRP you can also install custom ROMs.
No. That link is not valid. As of today there's no compatible TWRP with new bootloader.
"I am aware of compatibility issues related to newer bootloader.
New version of TWRP will be released soon with support to newer BLs." posted two days ago by @jesec. Are you saying that Jesec's post is not valid?

Those guides are usually just copy & paste of previous guides with updated version names and numbers. I wouldn't trust those sites, that's what we have XDA for, and if you look at the Question and Answers section you will find numerous threads of people having softbricked their device because of trying to root the AQG5 firmware. Custom firmware is the way to go right now and there are plenty of working rooted AQG5 custom roms here on XDA.
Anyway, you can't root with magisk on AQG5.

That's true you can't get Magisk by doing the CF auto root. But if you use a custom rom then you can have AQG5 and Magisk, you just have to stay on the AQF7 bootloader.

No that won't work. What you need to do is to use the TWRP update that can be found by joining the Telegram group found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...pment/recovery-twrp-galaxy-s8-exynos-t3595102
If you use the regular update you need to flash the AQF7 bootloader - boot into TWRP - flash the TWRP update - flash AQG5 bootloader with Odin. Then you are free to flash Magisk or SuperSU.
Yeah the method posted (http://www.teamandroid.com/2017/07/25/root-xxu1aqg5-android-70-galaxy-s8-plus-g955f-nougat-firmware/) does not work. Plus there's that point that says "remove battery." Why and how would you remove the battery on a G955F? I like to root and just keep it as stock as possible but this method does not work.
Also when I posted a comment on this site it got removed.
"This method failed. OEM unlock on, USB Debugging on, drivers installed. In download mode the COM does not turn yellow. When I initiate this it fails. And why would I want to remove the battery? I don't have those kinda tools to do it, you gotta be kidding."
Finally I rooted My device Sucessfully....
