Not really, but using 4G or selecting automatically 2G/3G/4G makes phone searching best signal too often and that draining battery than locking signal
That's all I know
CMIIW

I have tried this since i want to use a metal band bumper case but i loose signal dropping into 2g definitely helped boost signal.

Disable LTE

Is it possible to disable LTE from the settings? I don't feel that LTE is worth the additional battery drain and that HSPA+ is good enough.
Yup. Under mobile settings "Network Mode" 1) LTE 2) 3G 3) 2G.
Im on AT&T
Try the old *#*#4636#*#* - Phone info - scroll down, change the radio to WCDMA Preferred and that'll basically stop LTE connectivity.
Is LTE actually less efficient than HSDPA though? Especially with the new envelope tracking? I'd be curious to know.

It doesn't actually seem to do anything, even if I set it to WCDMA-only. I really need this because I have a 3G plan provisioned on an LTE-capable SIM and the network rejects registration if it is attempted on an LTE band.
some app could disable LTE

I meet the same problem,
the app "nexus 5 field test mode' can disable LTE. But it doesn't work on some roms (like mahdi).

My original problem was fixed with the 4.4.2 update.
Depending on the signal, LTE can be a bit more efficient.

Force 3G or LTE Connection

Hello everyone.
I have a question since I've got my s6. Can you force the phone to only connect to LTE or 3G network only? Because in the network option: the only preferences available are:
-4G/3G/2G
-3G/2G
-3G Only
-2G Only
So what I want is an option like 4G/3G because I'm forced to go to the settings every time I want to have 4G because my phone always connect to 2G, so when I am in a poor signal area, I have to put 3G Only.
I don't want a toggle. I just want to change the network preferences. My phone run XtreSoLite and Xposed is installed.
Thanks guys

OH that's strange, I'm on Tyrannus rom 28.1 and have the option for lte only. Maybe just the rom or your network provider.

Oh I'm sorry you didn't understand.
I don't want LTE Only. I want a network preference that is "3G and LTE". Not just 3G only or 4G/LTE only.
Thanks

Ah right, tbf I don't think I've seen this option on any phone I've owned.
Reason being if you go into a 2g area and you only have 3g/4g then your phone will not pick up a signal

I agree with that but in my city. All the areas are at least cover by 3G connection so I can afford it.
It's juste that my S6 always connect to 2G while they are 3G connection, because when I select "3G only", it works.
My post is there just to ask if anyone know about a tweak that can select only 3G and 4G.
Thanks guys

If you're lucky and your localization has more options, so you can simply lock 4G in menu:
Settings / More / Mobile Network / Preferred Network Type
What happens if you 'lock' the phone to 4g and you move out of 4g coverage? Or your 4g cell is overloaded?

Sure, it will lost signal.
But, there is no doubt if you're living in city. No overload and good coverage. In that case it's probably better to lock 4G or 3G instead of getting series of jumps from 4g to 3g and back. Well, it's personal choice.
Well my personal choice is to be sure of staying connected. I don't look to see if the phone is on 3g or 4g.
It doesn't matter to me which it is on unless I have a big download. And if I have a big download I would rather it slows down on 3g than drop out and lose it.

What do you mean with "if you are lucky"?
The standard settings only allow you to choose LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto.
We would need a shortcut to the service menu like on other phones where you can set LTE only

Thanks, choosing WCDMA locks it into 4G. I don't know if the phone doesn't show the 3G signal Icon on top
If u are in USA it shows 4G instead of 3G or H+. If u have LTE then it shows 4Glte. It's just the icons.

Phone prefers 3g over 4g

Hello, my problem is the phone prefers 3g over 4g even if there is excellent 4g coverage. Looks like the phone gets stuck on 3g after leaving 4g area and never tries to change network unless I put it in airplane mode for a sec. I have 4g set as preferred in network settings but this doesn't work at all, only solution is to set lte only in hidden menu, but that obviously causes other issues. Is there a fix?

It sounds like a problem with your provider. What is it?

Not sure about it being a problem with the provider though, all my previous phones were fine (htc one, 6p, S8) and I haven't replaced my sim card since then.
Open phone app, dial *#*#4636#*#*, go to phone information, in preferred network type, select LTE only.

This is what I did which is in the first post, but then if there's no lte I'm kinda screwed..
Same here (Play). I think it's the operator's fault.
