New firmware (with bug fixes) is available on the official website of the manufacturer - do I need to update via PC? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have Cubot KingKong Mini 2 (Android 10 smartphone) and the new version of the firmware is available on the official website of the manufacturer: https://cubot.net/Support/id/60/cid/16.html#hh

It contains "minor bug fixes". They also gave instructions on how to update firmware: via PC using SP Flash Tool.
Does the "standard" update from Android app settings (System > Advanced > System update) also include the same bug-fixes?
If so, then I guess that I don't have to do anything via PC & SP Flash Tool, I can just update from my phone (from Android system update) and it will include the same fixes, right?
Thanks in advance,
Sennee

The .rar Archive on the Official website is a full Read-back/Backup of the Nand (including the Scatter file for the partitions), it is usually used when/if:
The OTA (Over The Air) update through system fails, rendering your device soft bricked (in a Bootloop).
For documentation's sake.
The OTA servers are no longer available. (Update servers cost money to host)
My advice would be to update through system update first, here's why:
The update could be an even newer Security patch/version than the one on the website.
Updating through recovery mode (what an OTA update essentially is) has the added benefit of verifying the Update file for corruption first and will abort if it is found as such.
The Provided SP flash tool ROM is a Factory backup without the imei, sometimes forcing you to re-write it to each individual sim slot manually if you select all partitions for flashing. (a reoccurring trap that beginners fall into)
Only use the SP flash tool method if you're stuck after the system update.

Thanks @Slim K !
I didn't know that on Android "firmware" is basically OS, I thought that they are completely separate things that can be updated in a separate (different) ways. I thought that through "System update" (OTA) you can only update software/OS, not firmware (and that I'll have to update firmware using their instructions (via PC using SP Flash Tool)).

Cannot complete OTA update

I own Idol 3 (4.7) 6039Y and for some time now i cannot upgrade my phone with the new system update i have available (5.0.2 - 010 06 currently running 5.0.2 - 01002). My bootloader is not locked, and i don't have TWRP or any custom recovery installed. Whenever i try to update i download the update and the phone powers down to install it but the it gets stuck at about 35-40% and reboots and tries to upgrade again. After several tries i get the following message:

Your aboot partition has unexpected contents. The safest solution is to use the mobile q software from alcatel's website to restore your device to full factory status and then attempt the update. Here's a way to limit the pain.....if you backup your current rom via twrp after mobile q does the restore to fix your aboot you can flash twrp back and restore your previous rom. The aboot is not a partition changed by a twrp backup or restore.
I forgot to mention that i have tried all the options i have the all possible drivers installed and when i try to use the Mobile Q Software it gets stuck sometimes at 5%, sometimes at 20%. I tried using the 4.8.2 version, 4.9.2 version and the latest 5.0.0 version but no progress. Also tried to upgrade it as Pixi 3 (i think i read something, somewhere about that option) but it doesn't work.

Latest version is 5.0.9. I suggest you try it before giving up. You can't pick pixi inside the program....on the website picking pixi got you a newer version of the software at the time......the only other solution is to get someone on the same phone to backup their aboot,hyp,spl1, rpm and tz partitions and you flash them....these partitions need to stay in sync....I'm assuming you restored your fastboot commands at some point as its the only way I could think your aboot would be modified.

Hello guys;
On the official website they indicate using the "firmware upgrade" option instead to "download only" and update the preloader.bin file. How should I proceed? another question: this process unlocks the bootloader and accesses the root?

Stock Boot Image and Full ROM OTA Build Number 00WW_5_16A

Here is the stock boot image of the latest and the last update for Nokia 8 extracted from stock ROM. It can be downloaded from attachments (Boot_5_16A.rar). Simply extract the downloaded file to have the image. It should be about 52 MB in size. It is perfectly compatible with the latest TWRP and easily rootable by magisk. In the case of bootloop caused by flashing improper image to boot partition (like not compatible recovery image) flash it to the corrupted slot.
Also full OTA (for build number 00WW_5_150) is provided here. This is a maintenance release (MR) update and is flashable by stock recovery, won't factory reset your phone, and is usable for all variants of Nokia 8. I have been using it for a week or so. No problem is seen, though it's hard to point out any significant improvement.

Thank you so much.
It works very well
Hi @Arashone,
Could you compare against 5.15G to see what changed?
Cheers

Actually, I see no change. Nokia didn't publish changelog or something like that either. So as of now, just using!

Ah, I thought you had compared the files and checksums between versions for some reason. Can someone do that? Or if someone can tell me where the full images are for these two versions and how to unzip them then I'll so it.
Cheers

Unable to update oxygenOS after unbricking

So I have become member of the bricked-my-phone family. I have followed this tutorial https://www.getdroidtips.com/unbrick-oneplus-6/ and successfully unbricked it.
I have downloaded latest oxygen os (I tried two latest - one with android 11 and one with android 10), I have added the zip to the root directory and from system update I selected it, but in both cases I instantly get "System update installation failed" at 0%. It also says I am up do date from OTA (it it android 8.1 lol)
what should I do?
I want to install latest oxygenOS only for firmware, then I will be installing LineageOS again. I am afraid If I do it the other way around (LOS first than firmware) I will brick it again.

Hope it helps.

That's exactly what I did and the result, you see on screenshot..
But later in the evening, I found the solution here https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-6-system-update-installation-is-failed.1314311/:
The OP6 must be on 9.0.9 before upgrading to Android 10.
You are still on Oreo/Android 8.
There is a link for 9.0.9 on this website:

If you are able to boot to Fastboot as well as able to unlock bootloader than do unlock the bootloader and flash this msm file
[ROM][STOCK][FASTBOOT][OP6] Stock Fastboot ROMs for OnePlus 6
Things are changing with the advent of project treble and seamless updates. OnePlus will no longer release ROMs flashable via stock recovery (with twrp is possible but not recommended). The updates will be done on the slot not used for example...
forum.xda-developers.com
And after that reboot to recovery stock and factory reset. This will fix your issue than after lock the bootloader(if it's unlock after flashing the file) and update to latest rom (download the rom from oneplus updater app with advance setting "on")

its not working man, i almost tried every firmware
Flash RAW firmware (use the script / binary WITHOUT a wipe), then update normally.
If all else fails, you can perform the update with fastboot. It won't fix the issue and will have to be done for every future update, though.
Bypass "System update failed" - Update w/ Fastboot
Update notifications appeared, the update was recognized, but it failed instantly. I have since resolved the error by flashing a raw firmware without a wipe. This post is for archival purposes or simply an alternative installation method...

I tried both, but every time I try to run a script, be it flash raw or the flash_all, I keep getting waiting for devices, even though my phone is connected to my pc(through the side port) and is in fastboot/bootloader.
