I don't really know where to post this. I recently browsed the market for a "panorama" type of application like many phones come out with standard. I couldn't find anything but it got me thinking that it would be awesome if a camera app could "stitch" together photographs using the angular co-ordinates provided by the accelerometer (at least relative co-ordinates between successive photographs). This would allow "panorama" like photographs to be stitched together on the horizontal as well as the vertical axes.
Do you think this will be possible? (considering the phones processing power etc.)
I know the some camera apps record the [X,Y,(Z)] coordinates from the GPS for geo-tagging, but can the accelerometer's angular co-ordinates also be recorded on the photo e.g. [rho,theta, phi]?
I would like to hear your comments

this goes in the apps section... preferably in the "request an app" thread or a new thread to get noticed, but i doubt anyone would develop this anytime soon.
Not sure if this is worse the effort... there is a (or several) quite good programs around that will stitch your randomly-dropped-in-a-folder together (on you PC) which works nice and smooth. (photostitcher for example)
I don't know what all the discouragement is about. My wife's phone (Motorola Zine) does this without an accelerometer and a processor that is anemic in comparison to the G1. I think it absolutely could be done on the G1, or more generically Android. Getting someone to develop it is another question.
Street View
I guess you got this idea while seeing the Street View.
I had the same thought of acctualy integrating it with a map program like the HTC Footprints where I can make my own street view photo of places i like and want to share with frnds....
If this is possible we would help google get more street views and also let frnds and family experience what you can see where u r standing....

Auto unlock zone
You can add several "home" Wi-Fi networks and the lockscreen will be disabled when the Galaxy S4 hooks up to one of them. This way you can have a secure PIN lockscreen outside and a quick unlock at home or the office
(EDIT: Looks like a lot of devices are missing this feature. In the mean time you can use HOME UNLOCK for free from the market.

Quick glance
It uses the proximity sensor to detect you reaching for the device and it lights up the screen that shows the time, missed call and message counters, battery charge and music track info.
Multi-window
It runs two apps side by side on the screen. You can adjust the division line giving one app more space. Only compatible apps can be used with Multi-window, for now that means mostly the ones that come preinstalled on the phone.
Note: Samsung is probably blocking apps on purpose since mods exist on the SGS3 forum allowing any apps to use Multi-window.
Air View
There's no need for the S Pen on the Galaxy S4 anymore - the phone can detect your finger hovering over the screen. This enables information preview (e.g. SMS text, calendar entry text and so on), previewing videos just by pointing to a spot in the timeline, the next track in the music player by hovering over the next button (works with previous button too), previewing folders, speed dial contacts, and magnifying links in web pages. Air view detects fingers 1cm / 0.5" away from the screen, so there's no danger of accidentally tapping the screen when you wanted to use Air View instead.
Air Gestures
You can use this to scroll web pages in the browser (vertical waves), switch between tabs (horizontal waves), move between tracks in the music player and photos in the gallery, accept a call and move app shortcuts and S Planner events.
Air Gestures can detect your hand up to 7cm (just under 3") and might prove useful in some situations.
Who will use this? Former iphone user who looking to look cool.
Smart Stay
Prevents the screen from locking as long as the front-facing camera can see your face (great for reading).
Smart Rotate
Uses the orientation of your face rather than accelerometer info to decide how to rotate the screen.
Smart Scroll
It allows you to scroll up and down by tilting the phone as long as you're looking at the screen. In effect, it's an accelerometer based scroll that prevents accidental scrolling by making sure you're paying attention to the screen.
Smart Pause.
It uses the front-facing camera to track your face and will automatically pause the video when you look away. Look back and the screen and the playback continues.
Camera Modes
The camera interface is based on the Galaxy Camera.
There are two virtual shutter keys (still and video) on the right, plus a mode button. Modes are picked from a carousel with descriptive images and text. At the bottom there's an up arrow for color effects - the cool thing is that all effects do a live preview, Samsung is really showing off the chipset's processing power here.
Dual shot mode
Snaps a photo with both cameras and presents them picture-in-picture style (think video call). You can move and resize the image from the front-facing camera that's taking a photo of you
360 photo mode
One of the rarest camera modes. It creates a spherical panorama like you see in Google Street View. (There's a regular panorama mode as well.)
Sound & shot mode
It snaps a photo and records a few seconds of background audio, which really gives photos an ambience.
Cine Photo mode
To have motion in your shots you can create cinemagraphs.
Eraser mode
Snaps a burst of photos and automatically detects moving objects and removes them. This is great for popular tourists attractions as it's quite difficult to get a photo of those without at least one person walking into your shot.
Drama mode
It takes multiple photos of a moving subject and creates multiple "clones" of it.

This is rumour to come in a future upgrade
Group Play
It shares various multimedia across multiple devices in the same room but unlike DLNA it's interactive.
One use case is to play a music track on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and use multiple phones as speakers. You can pick the role of each phone (e.g. left channel, right, all the way up to surround sound). This way you can control the music from one phone but use the loudspeakers of all
More useful are the options to share a picture or a document - you can have the same picture appear on everyone's phone and you can draw over it if you need to highlight a certain element of the image. Imagine this in a business meeting
Multiplayer games
Finally, it allows for multiplayer games to be played on several phones simultaneously. Of course, only supported games work

S Translator

S Translator supports all the widely-spoken languages - English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and, of course, Korean. S Translator can be invaluable when traveling
This app can work together with Photo Reader, which employs Optical Character Recognition so you can just snap a photo of the text instead of having to type it in (which can be quite a challenge, imagine typing Chinese if you've never studied it).Photo Reader can read the text for you and sent it to S Translator
IR remote control functionality.
The app can control TVs, DVD and Blu-ray players, streaming media players and air conditioners. Devices are organized by rooms.
The app knows some home setups are messy - some let you change channels with the TV remote, others require you to use the set-top box remote for that. Same for the audio, you might be using the TV to output the sound or an AV receiver. The app will ask about your setup and present a unified remote control interface even if you have multiple hardware remotes to control all the devices.
I can already see the practical jokes you can do with this.
S-Health
Will track your steps, stairs climbed, and the ambient temperature and humidity, plus track your food intake and estimate calories consumed/burned. You can even track sleep with an optional accessory. There’s a wristband you can wear independently of the phone (in case you prefer running without it), which will track your steps and monitor the quality of your sleep. It will then sync wirelessly with the app. There’s also a connected scale and heart rate monitor.
So let’s discuss about these new features. I can see many aplications for most of these features in daily life. A lot of these features will unleash
their true power when combine with multiple phone.

Yes I'm surprised Samsung didn't talk much about the game pad, It looks awesome.
All this looks so awesome! I love that wifi lockscreen feature. Anyone know what kind of games will be able to play with the game pad? It looks like a 360.

It's definitely gonna be a major competitor to Project Shield. The S4 + Gamepad is more portable and has way more features. The Shield's processing capabilities are either matched or bettered by the S4.
And since the S4 is going to be a huge seller, hopefully more game developers like Gameloft will hop onto the bandwagon and make their games compatible. It would be awesome to play Mc4 with that

Project Shield is different, that uses your computer to play your computer games on the device remotely (at least that is one of its functions), but all the Samsung version needs is a way to stream games from the PC like Project Shield and then it would best it, with your computer doing all the work all it needs is some sort of remote viewer app with no delay.
In fact with project Shield being android based it could be more than possible you could just install the app and it would work (possibly with some hacking) actually come to think about it Nvidia could just sell the app make some money hat way as I don't see many people wanting a 2nd device just for games when they already have a phone.
This add-on controller to me it looks like a cheap attempt to counter Nvidias Project Shield.
I played with most consoles from cheesy monochrome to Gameboy and PSP. Touchscreens were the first to bring a new dimension into handheld gaming. I don't see any need to go back. Instead gamedesigners should rather focus on making the best experience for what the given hardware offers.
I don't feel like carrying around extra controllers with me.
The other, imho useless feature is "Smart Pause". When I watch a longer movie I sometimes look away from the display to just relax my eyes, but that doesn't mean playback shoud stop.
But in general: The more gimmicks the better
Game controller is cool idea but $110 is too much for me. Very expensive.

I agree much of the software is bloatware, but I will be disabling quite a lot of it, till I can root and remove things like chaton etc..

Soon you will start seeing people changing the channel of TV's in sports bar and public places. I don't know if Samsung thought about this. Oh boy.

Because it's new, I'm sure the price will go down soon and more games will be added. It's still cheaper than buying another game player.
I like the air gestures and stuff, but I hate the embedded unremovable Chinese bloatware that comes with almost every phone one buys in China. How beautiful would it be if they were replaced by Google Apps.

Are you on AT&T? Cuz the AT&T LTE version doesn't have this option, They replaced it with AT&T Smart Wifi.
im not on att.. i dont have both smart wifi and advanced option in lockscreen..

What's the app for the remote control? (home theater stuff) Is it right in front of me and I'm missing it??
for some reason i'm finding the menu/touchwiz to be more responsive on my S3.. i've only had the phone for a few hours but i can see some slight lagging in the UI at times. phone does have tons more stuff installed than the S3.. i never rooted my sprint S3 since it ran pretty good and didn't seem so bloated, the S4 may change that.
Clap Camera application is very very simple to use never miss yourself from any picture. Just imagine in case if you and your Family members going for a vocation.
Don’t just stay behind the device camera by capturing the pictures without you.
Don’t look for anyone to take a picture of you and your family.
Don’t rely on inconvenient camera timers where you have to be quick.
Clap Camera can put an end to all the above problems. Just place the device in right position (On a wall, Tripod etc.) with few clicks you will be ready to clap and take a picture.

I am a surgeon, and i need a camera application that detects edges automatically and crops the photo then give me basic tools for editing, like if i take a photo of a radiograph projected against an iluminator, camera app should automatically detect the edges of radiograph and crop it. it will save a lot of my time which i can spend on patient care. waiting for your suggestions and answers.

I never used it with XRays but I assume the app will understand it as a black and white photo.

New generation camera application builded with a proper UI/UX and updated with some non-common features has Live-preview filters, live-photos and face recognition used to take captures.
Technical description
CameraX is a camera application builded over Camera 2 API. The application makes uses of all the features provided by the API based on the hardware of the device running it. It also manages all the preview system using OpenGL instead of the native way. Being able to implement real time filters(on next release ), selfie indicator and on-preview features. It also works on some modes with Scene Detection and Face Detection using the tools provided by Machine learning Firebase tool.
Hardware limitations
Is possible that your device will not support the application. if your device is not supported it means that the Camera 2 API is not fully supported by your manufacturer. Brands like Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung who develop their own Firmware still using the old API 1 and works over it. On this case, I can't help providing a manual apk. The API itself requires a full implementation over it.

If your device is not supported it means that the Camera 2 API is not fully supported by your manufacturer. Brands like Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung who develop their own Firmware still using the old API 1 and works over it. Even providing you an APK the application will not work properly. Hello @kos25k ! Yes, the idea is to compete with the actual Google Camera(the open one, not the one integrated on PIXEL devices). In the end right now apart of some really specific features. For now we want to close an stable version with all the features highlighted and then focus on more "Image processing" features, such as develop our own HDR/Nightshot etc.
Anyway, for now we are using the same API than google, and the actual application highlight a lot of the App store top applications. It lack the Manufacturer custom implementation of each in-device camera. But in the end is the cost of build an application available for tons of devices.

More than do an HDR(HDR+), it's to do one that is fast enought to don't bother the user. You can easily create a HDR, Nightshot, or high processing quality images using OpenCV(FastCV on Android case), but these libraries takes seconds(10+) to process this images. Google does it using their own algorith with a huge native processing image team behind, that's why they don't need 2-3 cameras and they can do a Bokeh, HDR, nightshot and everything using a single 1, because their knowledge on that matter is amazing. Other manufacturers such as Samsung, Hauwei etc use their own system or third party libraries(from companies has Morpho).
So, in summary, yes, it's possible to do an hdr+, and we are working on it. But we want to launch something that will process under 3-4 seconds at least to give a good user experience.

i wish the best bro! If you manage a similar hdr+ experience, i believe you will then have the 1st best custom camera app on android phones!especially if u can solve gcam phone models compatibility issues, then you will re-write the rules from scratch!!

first, thank you so much for the feedback and the request. I really though this thread was already dead.
- We are working on a folder selection feature already, it should come next month.
- Same goes with payments. We want to include the possibility for single payment to remove the ads. However, we want to finish cleaning the bugs and gathering all the feedback we are receiving recently before include the payments.
- What did you didnt like from the icons? They are too simple? We try to follow a Google Material looking with the icons, but maybe make something more fancy would be great. Any advice or idea would be great. We will take the feedback and let it know to our designer.

icons are a bit dated IMO, however that is not at all a priority, especially if you want to keep that look and feel.
Motion photos are disabled, but I see some .mp4 empty files (0 bytes) in the DCIM folder, they are scanned by my gallery app and spam the photo list with empty white files

Hello Mijorus,
The last release has already a payment option to remove ads forever. Also a fix was implemented to prevent that ghost .mp4 files to be generated. Regarding the folder picker, we will implement it on the next release.

I know that the post is a bit old, but just FYI we already have a base HDR and HDR+ implemented on the app. It doesn't have the quality of google camera (and its far from it), but we are working on it. Feel free to let us know any other request or suggestion.
Also, any review or Play Store punctuation really help us a lot, so if any user is happy with the application we will be really glad if you could leave us a comment!

The issue with empty files being detected by gallery apps persists for me, I would suggest to move them in an hidden directory
Suggestion for hdr and bug report
1) phone Xperia x(f5122 camera is 23 MP) supports camera api 2 except Raw. The app doesn't let me click with full res (23 MP) but clicks botchy compressed 8MP which don't look good and are very small in size
2)suggestion for hdr+
So Ive used this app called hedge cam 2 and it has an option called reduced noise mode which takes several photos in burst (number can be selected) and averages them. The results are absolutely stunning. The images have no noise at all almost and in some cases better than gcam hdr+. Only problem is it takes too long to capture. So I've though of something.. There is another app called camera mx it has feature shoot the past.. If you can combine the above two we can get many images ready before you hit the shutter for hdr+ effect.
Just an idea ?!
