Terrible SoT πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ₯Ί Am I the only one πŸ€” - OnePlus 7 Questions & Answers

Whenever and wherever I look on the internet,be it youtube reddit or XDA forums.
Everyone seems to get a 1-2 day battery life out of the OnePlus 7. Which is apparently about 10Hrs SoT.
I don't get it. I've been trying everything since day 1 I got the phone ( even did a factory reset ) but the max SoT i get is 3.5Hrs ( usually even less ) .
I don't even game on my device now and don't make any calls.
All I do is youtube and instagram with little to no whatsapp.
Rarely a little camera and still the battery life is tragic.
Can someone help me out
Or give me any solutions to push my phone a couple more years.
Even old phones like 3T or 5T users claim more battery than me
I can't live this way where I have to charge my phone 3 times a day

I am on the same boat like you, do not know how people get so many SOT hours. I know my phone is 5G and nearly 2 years old. But anyway I must top it up everyday afternoon/evening otherwise it would die. This is one of the cases why I am moving to samsung, I think quick charge degrade battery much faster.

It's a paid app.
I'm not wasting my money

It's also available in a free version like mentioned within the link, so you can test it.
Nobody knows your setup of your phone, so this app helps to break things down to a level which can be compared and analyzed as you can see from the linked thread
Since years this app helps to identify issues related to battery issues.

Thank you
I understand but the process seems to be tedious to me and with my current usage I don't think I can help with that routine.
Is there any other way
I can describe anything for reference though

If you can post signal strenghts over time, cpu usage over time, wakeup per apps over time and lot of more interesting parameters you're good to go
Time should be over night at least 6h minimum without touching the device.
Otherwise it't easier to follow the recommendations to generate the dump file and post in the linked thread with a description(not here):
Before posting a dump please make sure that the references for kernel wakelocks and alarms were processed correctly. Reading a dump takes a few minutes and it would be great if you could not waste the time of whomever studies it, aiming at helping you.
Generally a dump "since unplugged" is better than "since charged". When you start your analysis make sure to follow following procedure:
- enable watchdog processing in BBS settings
- verify from/to references is checked under custom views
- full charge device then let it run down to ~95%
- put device to sleep for at least 6 hours (no touchy!)
- wake device and launch BBS
- adjust from/to references to 'screen off' and 'screen on'
- save dumpfile from share menu
- post resulting log to this thread (or provide cloud link)
Any other ways are cumbersome and not effective(like screenshots)

Can you please elaborate the steps
I'm having a hard time understanding
I installed the app and ran the necessary adb commands successfully
Now I'm charging the phone to 100 %
Please describe the next steps a little more I didn't understand
And give me the link where I have to post share the dump file

Battey Life Thread

LET'S MAKE A BETTER BATTERY LIFE FUTURE FOR ALL
I thought I would start this thread for our phone. I have the AT&T HOX, but any carrier that uses the msm8960(Snapdragon S4 Dual Core
chip) should participate. Sorry Tegra 3, different chips different, battery concerns.
Basicly, I just wanted a place where everyone could
report there battery life, things there doing to get it(if good or bad), and fixes or ideas to increase battery life. This way everyone can
benefit from others knowlage and experiance.
I personally just got my HOX as a replacement for my broken SGSII, and as it is a
refurbished device, I am having a few concerns. One being that my battery life is horrible. Its been on average draining between 20
-30%/hr. So, at the advice of another member I got the better battery stats app and checked it out and found that HTCDm was the
process preventing my phone from going into deep sleep(better battery Stats has pretty good documentation as to how to use it, if you
choose to use this app just read the documentation. It is short but precise). Upon further investigation I found that that process was the
one that checks for firmware updates and throws the message about "there's an important update for your phone". I didn't want it
yet(because of the no root issue on 2.20 and I haven't unlocked yet because I want to make sure that everything is okay with this phone
before I void the warranty). I'm not sure what else HTCDm does besides the firmware update check, but I froze it anyway with TiB and it
drastically increased my battery life as my phone now properly goes into deep sleep. But all is not perfect yet, as my phone still
drains at about 20 – 30% per hour when the screen is on:crying:. I'm not sure if it is a battery issue and I am about to call AT&T right now
about it (it really sucks that they can't send me a new battery because it is not removable). But that is just me. If anyone has any
suggestions for me, I would love to hear them.
:fingers-crossed:SO EVERYONE PLEASE POST: :highfive:
YOUR BATTERY LIFETIME
ANY PROBLEMS YOU'RE HAVING WITH BATTERY LIFE AND NEED HELP WITH
ANY PROBLEMS YOU'VE HAD AND THE STEPS YOU TOOK TO CORRECT THEM
ANY PARTICULAR APPS OR TWEAKS YOU'VE USED TO INCREASE BATTERY LIFE
(OPTIONAL\IF YOU CHOOSE)
NUMBER OF APPS YOU HAVE INSTALLED (ESTIMATE)
GENERAL NUMBER OF ACCOUNTS AND THEIR SYNC SETTINGS
WI-FI AND DATA SETTINGS (AND ANY TASKER PROFILES USED WITH THESE, ETC.)
ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF OR WISH TO LIST
P.S. You can Post more than 1 vote in the poll, 1 for normal use and 1 for heavy us. This should give us a good idea of the average battery life across all sorts of roms, kernels, setups, ect.
"TiB"?
Root and don't use a sense rom. Sense is okay, but it drains battery a lot (has been improved with 4.1 but still...). Also get rid of or freeze apps you don't use and/or don't need.
Oh and TiB stands for Titanium Backup I'm assuming.
I'm on 2.20 which I got new, and I disabled as much bloatware as I could. I can go a day from 100% in the morning to ~8:00 with 50% left. I use my phone for browsing XDA, texting, and playing a game or two. I consider it okay battery life, and I'm on stock! Trying flashing a different rom and see how the battery life goes.
We should do a poll with screen time instead.
Mine is 2-3Hr screen time (auto brightness) with heavy usage.
Total time on charge varies from 4 hours to 24 hours.
Already a thread exists for battery stats http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1612612
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Hey rye-rye! Stopped reading after the second paragraph because I realized this is redundant B.S. but thanks for the incentive. We already have a battery stats thread.
OOPS!
Sorry that, Isert and could not find one nor did it find one I was creating this thread. I was actually just coming back, because I just got the chance, to update the OP post with a much more detailed breakdown of what I was expecting from the thread and also I was going to delete out all of the stuff about my replacement and yada yada yada because I managed to get all of that fixed and Done and not only that I was also going to post in detail my success story of how I went from 3 to 4 hours battery life to on average 9 hours with moderate use. And as of yesterday I set my all-time record with 6 hours and 5 min. to go from 100% down to 6% battery left. What's that you say? That's not very good for your all-time record! And you would be correct but I haven't told you yet that I was actually on the phone with the screen on using it to make phone calls surf the Internet on Wi-Fi and LTE as well as running various apps downloading new apps and checking them out. So in total the on-screen time was around 5 hours and 45 min. with about 15 min. of sleep. so is the official battery. The one that I just saw on the 1st page that says "battery stats XL", I believe? If so I'll just make my post in that one.

[Q] Battery life getting worse - How to check for draining apps?

Hey guys,
A common question: My Nexus 5 seems to suffer from energy drainage, as I'm not getting the Screen on Time I'm used to. Ever since I got the phone, I've always got about 2:45 - 3:15 hours of Screen on time and in the past months, that hasn't changed, until the last few weeks, as I'm getting a max up to 2 hours of screen on time, often up to 1 and half hour..
Not much has changed. Same usage patterns, not really any new apps that I regularly use and screen brightness (50%), Wifi (24/7 on and won't turn off on sleep, 90% of the day on WiFi), 3G (normal use), GPS (off), bluetooth (off) I use on normal base.
Also the usage graph that shows how many % per app is used hasn't changed ever since. 25% screen, 15% android OS and all others a few percent.
So I'm unsure what app/thing is the boogyman, or how I can check what is; hopefully any of you can help me!
I wouldn't mind a factory reset, but I'd prefer trying to use on-device checks before I perform a factory reset.
Thanks!
P.s. I'm not rooted (yet, still unsure whether to or not. Kinda happy with the 3 hours I'm used to. Not interested in a different rom anyway), so no answers that require being rooted. Thanks!

If you're rooted you're going to want to use Better Battery Stats. I believe there's a version free to XDA members, somewhere. It'll give you extremely detailed information about which wakelocks are eating up your battery. There are a ton of threads on here (my favorite is in the Samsung Skyrocket forum) which explain the various wakelocks and how to minimize or get rid of them. If you're not rooted, I'm not sure what would be able to help.

Not rooted - Updated the OP. Thanks anyway!
Do you have anything running as a service in Settings> Apps> Running that wasn't before? It might be the latest Google Search or Play Services updates.
Could also be strength of signal or if you were traveling more than usual. Any number of things, not much we can do without BBS or Gsam stats which would require root for meaningful results. Otherwise you could screenshot your default battery stats including the graph, screen on time, and detailed stats for any apps using more than 5%.
Any links to the better battery stats thread? I'm having similar issues. Running the latests Beanstalk

[Discussion] Specific 5.0 battery drain issues.

Hi guys! I've created this as a thread to discuss the so far mysterious and specific to 5.0 battery issues many seem to have.
Here you can discuss it, test theories and try to track down causes.
I made this to keep the clutter out of the Battery Life Help Thread sticky. As this is muddying the waters there.
Same things apply... Screen shots are helpful, specifically app wakelock screens. (need root for that though)
Also, Chances are there will eventually be an update to fix this from Google. So when that happens, or the issues are solved by members, then this thread will be closed and info added to the Battery Life Help Thread.
Thanks!
I won't be active very much in this thread BTW. I'm very busy here on XDA. I've created it for community discussion. ?
By all means... If you are rooted, and have Gsam and Gsam root companion installed.... You can post your app wakelock screen shots here......

Here we go. There's some proof about Wifi issue for ones who don't or want to believe and became angry to talking about this issue. As you can see No deep sleep wakelocks without Wifi. As clear as it should be.
And yes, everything is off. GNow, location, G+; any google services disabled. Also all notification or syncing options of 3rd party apps are closed. And it's a smartphone by the way.

Thanks but I'm not sure that I'll get some help though. Turkish or english, this issue will take much battery in these days.
For what it's worth, people who need to theorise / suggest / confirm 'issues' must do so LOGICALLY, and preferably with numbers and specific setup.
- The laws of physics apply in all cases, regardless of ROM / kernel. Work out WHAT is using your battery instead of just complaining of drain. This helps no one....similarly only quoting SOT is USELESS. It is how you use your device.....
- Any initial 'testing' needs to be done first on full stock factory images, with no additional apps installed. If there really is a WiFi bug....test standby drain with WiFi on / off over a long period of time. Only then can you actually compare logically. Any difference in your actual day-to-day setup can then be narrowed down to an app issue, with in 99% of cases is the real cause.
Well i narrowed it down tot google now. I did a clean install. I did my setup as i usually do. But first without google now. Because i don't use it. My SOT was then about 4 hrs. Then i was thinking. Hmmz lollipop is beter then KitKat. And maybe its fun tot use google now. So i setup google now. My SOT drops instantly to 2 hrs SOT. So i disabled google now. But my SOT stays at 2 hrs. I did again a clean install. Without touching google now and my SOT is beter then ever. 5 hrs. And i came tot understand that if you don't setup google now. The SOT became normal but if you setup google now SOT drops. And i think there a program from google now that keeps beeing active. Even with shutting google now off. Or google now keeps active even while you shut if off
Anyone know of an app that can control individual apps permissions, similar to the xposed module app settings? Fighting privacy/battery issues.
App ops? Can be found in the store
I have no 3rd party apps installed and also tested in safe mode. If wifi is on the battery drains with wakelocks. If wifi is off the battery drain goes away and wakelocks stop. That's not a theory or something. I'm testing this issue till I bought my Nexus 5. I'm lucky because I bought my Nexus 5 1 week ago and I flashed Lollipop images clearly. Also I relfashed 2 times more . There's a wifi issue in this version in Nexus 5 and it must be fixed immediately. That's the result. No need physics laws or something. There's to many person lives it and cannot use their smartphone properly. If I must close the wifi manually to save battery life and block wakelocks why I'm calling that thing a "smartphone"? By the way it's not the phone's fault. The OS is faulty for Nexus 5. The worst part is the fact that Google said this issue has been fixed. But it's not true. At least for most users. We saw some users doesn't have this issue but more of them has been rooted their phone or flashed custom ROMs and kernels etc... Personally I don't want to root my phone or use a custom ROM and kernel. I think it's my right as a Google Nexus 5 and Android final consumer. And also it's my right to sound off this issue. I cannot understand why some people are huffing to users like me?

Apologies my post wasn't actually directed at you, more at those who post without any detail and just conclude that it must be drain, I've seen many...
You have tested logically[emoji106], and you're absolutely right that full stock factory image should work without issue and without the need for root to fix anything.
Can you confirm also that the same drain happens on any Wi-Fi network? It shouldn't be a solution but with investigating. Can you determine which built in app is keeping your device awake?

No need for apologies or something. We're all here to solve some issues and make things better.
By the way my wifi issue happens if the wifi is on. There's no need to be connected to any network. If the wifi is on there's massive wakelocks in sleep mode and battery drains quickly. I tried anything but root or customizing ROM or kernel. Even I flashed 4.4.2 radio image with 5.0 stock ROM. I'M using it that way now. Same results.
And my tests are not only logical but I also have some quantitative clues. When I open the wifi I can see the wakelocks in stock battery graphic when the screen is off. If Δ± close the wifi wakelocks decrease and incomprehensible battery drains stops.
I agree. I'm getting an extra hour SOT without WiFi.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
SOT is not a main parameter. Especially in this issue.
For this wifi battery drain issue our main parameter is wakelock intensity when wifi is on and screen is off (standby) therefore battery drain in deep sleep mode. So you must check your off screen battery drain.
Any idea why Google play services is keeping my phone awake almost continuously? My location is set to battery saver. I've left it exactly the way it was on KK, Play services used to be around 2% on KK. Now on L, it's always in the top of the charts at ~20%. It says that mobile radio is continuously on. Does it have anything to do with the radio version?

Tracking and history have always been drains. Maybe not as bad as on 5.0...but still.

That is true, but KK never had that big of a drain solely based on location and tracking.

Battery drain fix

Noticing your Galaxy S6 battery is draining too fast? This thread can help.
Part of the problem lies within a memory leak which is a known problem that Samsung is aware of and is reportedly patching in an upcoming update.
The other issue is Samsung attempts to load everything into memory and run several services in the background as well as hard loading the phone with bloatware.
Here is how I gained 30% better battery performance. Guaranteed
*Prerequisites
*Need to be rooted for every tip to work.
1. Disable anything you consider bloatware
2. Go to settings then application manager and disable both ANT radio service apps. You don't need this. Causes massive battery drain. Google it if you don't believe me.
3. Go to the app store and download "Servicely" from Franco. Paid app but worth the money...trust me. (Need root)
4. Once in servicely add running services and apps to your hit list, choose start at boot and run hit list while screen is off.
5. Reboot your phone. Give your phone a full charge and see the difference
Attached is a screenshot of realistic usage. I was on a poor lte signal for 9 hours and conducted several calls and used my phone moderately heavy. As you can see i got through my entire work day and still have 6 hours left at moderately heavy use.
Remember, this is realistic. I could have shown you a screenshot showing 18 hours left after only using it 1 hour. What I'm showing is a legit 9 hours of usage. Before I made these tweaks I would be at 10% battery or less after nine hours of the same usage.
Post your screenshots after 24-48 hours and let's see how much you are saving.
Follow me on twitter @bash_array
A shot showing your phone call, screen on, and deep sleep times would do a lot to bolster your claims. Your "normal" use isn't like anyone else's. I have 50% battery left right now, after 13 hours of my "normal" use. I'm not using servicely.
Fair enough. I'll post a screenshot using Gsam
Just experiment. I'm offering up a known legitimate way to reduce battery drain.

this dont fix the batery drain mate i try this like 2 month ago and I don't have any diference... the only diferencie I see is with the phone rooted, debloeted, grenifi, setcpu, green power premium and app ops.... and if you want the Google service of are a specific app for that... dosableservice you can find it in Google play. This a a bery basic alternative.

Battery Charge Limit: still a good idea?

This gadgethacks article from two years ago suggests limiting battery charge to 80% and even links to an app to do so.
Given the speed at which things evolve in the Android world, is this still a good idea today, and specifically on OP7 devices?
There is much debate around this but I personally stop at 90% and try to recharge around 15%, not letting it go lower.
Thank you! It's helpful to hear the latest thinking on this.
Forgot to ask: do you control that manually, or do you use something like this root app?
Taking it out for a spin but not sure what to expect.
When phone charges 100%. It's not using maximum capacity. Neither is it fully discharged when it hits 0. Manufacturers of course know that and that's something they take into account calibrating the software. I see no reason for limiting it further lower and making yourself to charge it more frequently. That wears it out faster instead
Help!

I use what is shown in the attached screenshot.
Thank you very much.
For anyone else following the thread, looks like this module is referred on this how-to guide and this official thread.
I'm a ~20 - 90% kinda routine. But I don't dwell on it...
If you use a Chargie device (https://chargie.org), you can limit the charging of any non-rooted phone. It's a much better option. And it's also developed and tested on a OnePlus 7T, so it works well with OnePluses. Check it out.

ACC
I'm using ACC by VR25 since years on a Redmi Note 4 and now on my Pro 7. You may find it on XDA and Github. It's a Magisk module and you need root rights. Configuration is done by command line, but default is max. 80% and starts reloading at 70%. There is also a gui available from Matte Carrara called AccA, which I never used. I can recommend ACC, it's slim and works rock hard.
