Hello, I bought a used S9+ but the screen seems to have black crush issue. If I keep it on max brightness, the colors seem fine but not perfect. It does not turn off the pixels while displaying black, but while showing Always On Display, it does turn off the pixels. Sometimes when I unlock the phone the colours appear normal for a second or two but it goes away again. And also the battery drains very fast and is almost unusable without a case. I get like maybe 5 hours of screen on time. Will reverting to an older version help? I am currently on Android 10 with the latest security patches. Will installing a custom rom help?
Bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

this happened like 4 months ago... i was just watching movie and suddenly the screen drops quality then starts flickering, appearing multiple dots of colors. So i immediately turn my phone OFF - removed the battery then after 3 minutes I put back then turn it ON...after that incident my phone now has LOW QUALITY of screen. All text/letters are almost look like pixelized(not really clear), white/red/blue/green shadows appears when background is black or even if the background has bright colors a white shadows appears below and above the bright color, when playing games for long time(2-3 hrs) the screen will starts flickering again(I noticed the back of the phone below the back camera is getting hot).
Before all this happened, for almost 1 week i was playing games while my phone is charging. But during the time it started i was not charging my phone. It appeared 5 hrs after i charged my phone...
My phone was NEVER DROPPED, NEVER GOT WET.
I included some Screen shots...
Is there any other way to fix this problem and restore the screen quality of my phone without buying NEW LCD? If there is, please tell me how or just give me the link or application needed to fix this issue...
We know that our old Note have an AMOLED display, this means that the black pixels are almost turned off, so you can experience a good and sharp image instead of blueish, LCD TFT displays. It's a bit buggy because of dead pixels from manufacturer, clipping issue in videos and screen burn-in (not in every phone, just in some). Another complication of this screen is that if you put brightness at lowest, it's still very bright so if you want to read something in your bed, or use the phone without iluminating the whole room, there's an app that you will like:
Galactic Night
This app have much great features: you can use the phone at any combination of colors you want: Black and Red, Black and Blue, Black and Green, No blue (to prevent insomnium), B&W etc.
So what the hell have this to do with the battery? Well, it's easy, think this:
You're running low battery, and need extra minutes to finish your task. Use Black and Red setting
You are in a travel, without any charger, and want your phone turned on all the day. Use Black and Red setting
If you use this setting, your battery will be incremented to a 25% to 40% in duration. Also as it uses only red pattern of pixels and black, your phone will have less and it will be perfect to read at night (even it will be more healthy as it doesnt uses blue leds which causes insomnium).
The app is free to use and requires ROOT. Works only on Samsung phones with amoled screens.
******USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK****** Using these options for a long time (DAYS without turning off the screen for even a single second) will result a permanent lost of the used color.

Nice share ...i will try for battery backup.
Good finding mate.

Thank you @galaxynote2, just looking for something like this. :good:
I have just upgraded my S6 to Marshmallow, I noticed straight away the screen now has a slight yellow tint,
this was not there on Android L, it also seems to lack the same sort of contrast it had before.
I asked a few friends to check theirs and the same thing has happened, I have tried a full wipe etc and messed with the display settings but still the same.
When you first turn the phone on, you see the Samsung Logo, it starts off a nice white and then you see it turn yellowish.
So something in the software has changed, I wonder if it is just the S6 that does this? Is it too stop screen burn from the blue pixels or have Samsung gone all Apple and gimped the screen to make the S7 look better?
Also adapt display > modepreviewtablet has gone in marshmallow!, although I didn't have to do this on Android L.
Either way I'm frustrated now.
My S6 (920I) has not had the screen change at all when updating...
Mine is exactly the same as it was on LP, no change and absolutely fine, now BTU UK MM.
If you watch your phone carefully when you switch it on, look at the Samsung logo and it starts off a nice white and then it gets a slight yellow tint.

I agree, but the same thing happens with Lollipop.
Hello,
two years ago I accidentally took my S5 for a swim, after the accident phone was resting for 18 months in a drawer. Unfortunately I cracked my next phone so S5 is now my daily driver. Everything is working fine except screen colors, everything has a yellow/grey tint and display is a lot dimmer, especially on black colors. One time when phone got really hot screen started to work just fine, all colors regent to normal but it lasted only for a few minutes, so I assumed it was heat related.
4 days ago without any reason my screen somehow healed itself and screen started to work properly again, I couldn't believe how it was possible. Unfortunately after 4 days with perfect colors, blacks was truly black and brightness was fully working screen return to the damaged state.
Does anyone know how it was possible, what actually happened and is there any way to fix it again?
Hi, hope there isnt a thread already coz I couldnt find one.
For last few days my unit is starting up with black screen. The lcd backlight is on but no image, just black.
The 1st time I tapped and prodded and after a few mins driving it flickered back into life by itself.
Now it's doing it daily after car has sat overnight. I thought it might be the cold weather, but its still low 20's ish.
I havent done anything to it other than change a few progs. Genuine stock firmware etc. Its a mtcd px3 erising unit.
The audio works fine (if radio left on when switched off) but when the screen starts to work, it gradually fades into life while there are horizontal white flickering lines that are gradually replaced by normal image coming into view. It takes approx 7 mins from start. Isnt effected by roads, bumps etc and once on works perfectly with no flicker at all. Def' a weird one. Any one have any similar experience ?
