why isn't it as easy as on the pc ? on pc you just download the OS you want , you make it bootable with a program like rufus (in a usb drive) you plug the usb on the pc/laptop, you follow the instractions and done. on smartphones/ tablets its too complicated you have to download a custom recovery , and why every rom is not compatible with every smartphone/ tablet?

As with the Android ROM it consists not only of the operating system software ( bootloader, Linux kernel & Android Framework ) but also of a wealth of drivers & APIs, what are tailored to Android device's hardware and its interfaces. Hence it should be clear that not every available Android ROM will flawlessly run on every Android device: thousands of different brands and models of Android devices are on the market, all have different features.
Installing an incompatible ROM, in the best case, makes components of your Android device unavailable ( they are simply not working ), in the worst case, you might "softbrick" the Android device ( it won't even start up ).

Howto Flash the device:
Shutdown the Pad.
Then Press The Button on the Right site in front of the pad (there is only one?) and the Power Button at the Same Time.
Then the device will be flashable and the light will be blue i think.
Then you Put the USB-Cable in, install the driver which is also in the package.
Now you can open burntool.
Device10 should be green.
Now jo goto Settings, and set uboot, kernel,sys-dat, udat
uboot: u-boot.img
linux-kernel:zImage_cui
linux-sys:system.img
linux-udat:userdata.img
Press the FIRST button from the left site to confirm the settings
Now press Start and the device should be starting to flash....
However sometimes the board hangs after flashing and will not start directly dont worry. If everything doesnt help, do a reset.
So iam not responsible again, this was the way i used and it worked.
I thinks its impossible to brick the pad, because you can flash it every time again. (throu ENTER+Power button mode).

I am wondering the same thing too. I have vogue and I am very impress with the work of Myth Donut build. I just ordered a ZT180. I familiar with building linux kernel, mostly for servers and desktops, maybe if I can hack some stuffs if the original build is out somewhere. Is there a place where I can pickup some clues about this here?

I am interested in the ZT180, but I think I will hold out for the tegra 2 based android tablets I keep hearing about.
Thanks for the image. I tried to find the data sheets online but fail to find the main processors. I think they relabeled the chip. It is most likely from south korea. Same for the memory chip.
The RTL8201CT is the LAN chip:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsview.aspx?langid=1&pfid=13&level=5&conn=4&prodid=25
The two NAND flash chips are: HY5PS1G1631C FP-Y5

csbert, would you please answer me in PM.
I have 2 Interesting Firmwares for the 180:
-Android
-WinCE.
Flashsoftware + uboot is included.
My firsttry will be run a little linux with usb + tft support to see the full hardware .....
Could we work together ?
Sry i dont get this Forumsoftware, sorry...

Yes. I got it thanks you for sharing.
When I get my machine, I will starting building a linux kernel for it.
However, should we do android instead? When done right, it is pretty good.

I'm looking to buy one of these, can someone give me a link as where to buy one from??
Well, it is confirmed that it is not a Cortex, which is Arm v7, but is an Arm 11, which is Arm V6. So it is like a superfast iPhone 2G.
http://www.slatedroid.com/showthrea...180-Specifications-Faking-Not-ARMv7-A8-Cortex!
It is still a nice platform to develop on though.
but not for $300...
[EDIT]
might as well cash in on a $150 GT78, and develop on that...
spam 5m delay is utterly moronic...
[/EDIT]
You're doing a great job!
I have one, but I can't use it because of the chinese firmware which I doesn't understand....
hope some of you can post an firmware vesion soon so I can start using my device.
respect for the ones who can make the roms!
This Package includes:
-Usb_Driver
-WinCE
-Android2.1
-burntool
http://www.multiupload.com/BV5BEUWJ1K
Again I need to say, that is (so far as i know) not the Official Firmware.
This Android really sucks, i dont like it, only use it for informationfinding.
Do somebody already have a SDK Connection to the pad (PC<-SDK->PAD)
I need to know howto make a adb connection possible.
Thanks

Is this Android 2.1 v1 (that came with the ZT-180) or something else?
I was curious as to what the device actually was.
From Hinagiku's prompting on QQ, I made threads on Slatedroid about the spec faking.
I am still unable to retrieve system files to actually further prove that thsiis indeed an ARM11 based processor. I have tried to use unyaffs on the system.img from my Linux partition. The system.img should be some variant of yaffs, as there's a file in the firmware pack that indicates that.
I was hoping to find out where and how JIT has been enabled, and possibly perform readelf on the libs.
Anyhow I really want a system dump.

How to flash the android onto zt-180?
Hi,
Have downloaded the firmware including the burntool but don't know what to do now.. above all, its in chinese..
Any help please.. btw the zt-180 is not recorgnized on otg or usb port with windows 7.. any ideas?

I'll hope now you understand it
My Problem is now to get the SDK working, which usb port i have to use, to make a usb-sdk connection with the pad. The OTG Port isnt recognized in windows while Android is running, and i dont have a Cable to test USB to USB directly. Could that be possible? If anyone have the resources please test it, i need this information thanks

Flashing android Writst-watch or Live-boot from SD-card

Hi guys
I need to install a version of android on this wrist watch that has a IM client with OTR (off-the-record) plugin and i need to make the whole OS non-persistant so nothing gets saved.
Here's the specs
CPU / Memory / Operating System
MediaTek MT-6513 650MHz Dual Core Processor
DDR: 4GB ROM; 2GB RAM;
FREE 8GB MicroSD Card
Android 2.2 Froyo Operating System
If anyone can help me out i'm willing to compensate and make a donation. I have no knowledge of Flashing ROMS but im trying to impliment a kind of " Live-CD " approach so i can just add the IM client with the needed plugin and then re-flash the OS or just boot the new OS from SD-card
A wrist watch with those specs? Interesting, can you show a link or a pic?
If it is a MT6513, then it is *not* a dual core. The MT6313 is the same as the MT6573, but without the 3G modem.
Also, I do not understand what you mean with 'making it non-persistent'
Anyway, if it is a MT6513, I advise you to first use the MTK Droid tools to make a backup of the existing phone. Latest tool version (that I know of) is v2.3 here.
Other useful links are below. But please take care, if you make a mistake, you can brick the phone wrist-watch. And since I do not have a device like this, I can not precisely tell you what to do and what buttons to press, and I suspect neither do others.

MT6575 flashing tutorial (update using flash utility

Edit: Is this the phone we are talking about?
Thankyou cybermaus

Yes that is the watch i am talking about also moneytoo has made a post about this such device however the reason i am asking again is due to the fact that i need it specifically to boot "live" so it doesnt save anything and i need to know how do i add my IM client to the OS before it goes "LIVE"
Also i cannot post in that forum as i am a new member.
In laymans terms,
I want to put a IM app on the watch/phone and then make a image of the OS like in linux and then every time from there on when the watch powers on its booting the OS from the SD-Card or from anywhere as long as its a live-distro.

Twrp Builder

I found this on the internet on filehost it didn't have a devs name. Its a twrp builder... i ran it on my laptop and it looks legit.. its just figuring out how to use it which is the fun part.

Now that im in the toolkit i see it was developed by the dev leszczu8023 so credits would go to them if someone built a twrp recovery with this tool.

Actually it can work on this phone. Have you ever heard of modifications or you just the type that googles everything.
Theres no need to google the word modification
modification
: the act or process of changing parts of something : the act or process of modifying something
: a change in something (such as a system or style)

Is sources from the vendor required?

If the vendor (in this case Vodafone) don't provide sources, does it mean I'm unable to create a ROM for it?
Put it another way, is it possible to create a ROM using only a running device?

Yes, if you want to build a "true" custom ROM you will need the stock source code for your device.
If you can root, you can use adb or Terminal Emulator to do a "ROM dump", or dump just a copy of your system.img, then modify that system.img and then use adb to push the modified system.img to your device. It will be considered a modified stock ROM, it won't be a "custom" ROM but you can modify it quite heavily with things like Xposed, Gravity Box, and a few other good mods and themes.
Or you can get a copy of your stock firmware(not the same as source code), then find other devices with the exact same hardware that have a better version of Android than yours, then use your stock firmware to port the better version to work on your device.
Building a true custom ROM is "possible" without stock source code but it would require VERY extensive programming and developer knowledge to do it because you'd have to do every bit of it from scratch with no resources to work with.

It would help if you had stock firmware for your model then you can find another device with the same hardware architecture(chipset), if they are similar enough you can port it.
It's possible to port between devices that aren't exactly the same chipset but that also requires extensive developer knowledge.
If you aren't experienced then you're pretty much out of luck.
If you want to customize android devices then you need to get less obscure devices. Next time, research the device first to see if there is a known rooting method for it and whether there is custom development available for it before you get it. Or if you get a device that just came out, get a device that you are certain that developers will support, typically a flagship/popular device.
The cheap low-mid range devices usually don't get support from developers and the ones that do get support are not supported by real develoers, they are supported by members that took it on themselves to learn how to build android just so they can update their device but their work usually isn't exactly right due to their lack of experience.

General Android desktop mode can also run the Linux desktop

Hi,
We make a VolksPC Debian Linux distribution that can run as an application on top of the official Android 12 firmware. We have tested this on Android 12 Build number S1RTS32.41-20-16-1-5. You will have to unlock the bootloader for installation. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES TO YOUR DEVICE. Our initial plan was to base this on Lineage OS but unfortunately it doesn't have any support for Android desktop mode. Please check www.volkspc.org for a free download as well as our YouTube channel to see a video clip of this in action.
Regards
VolksPC
Looks like there is newer version, Build number S1RTS32.41-20-16-1-9 , and our release also works with it.
How does it work, does the virtual machine?
It is not a VM, it runs natively. You can think of Android as just another Linux distribution that uses a different graphics stack aka Surface Flinger. Our graphics stack is designed to work with both X11 and Surface Flinger. Our FAQ page provides more details.
It works great, thanks

Ok. It seems to me that the 3D acceleration tests are insufficient. In Termux you can run 3D applications normally and they are playable (I was running Trigger Rally). glxinfo doesn't say anything if there is 3D acceleration or not.
It is a pity that the project is not fully open source
Hi, my device is moto edge s which is a Chinese version of g100. I follow the installation steps and click `Start VolksPc desktop` button. It can't start and complains `Could not load driver`.
Check that you have successfully flashed our volkspc-boot.img . But make sure you have the original boot.img for your firmware, that way if your phone fails to boot you can go back to the original image.

I only know that the boot.img needs to be flashed if unlocking bootload.

Unlocking the bootloader voids your warranty but after that it is reasonably safe and easy to flash any boot.img.
