Bootloop after update magisk manager - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have an Samsung note 10+ n975f and it have root over magsik.
I updated magisk manager and than i can't start magisk manger (app cloesed after start)
After this i make a reboot and now i have a bootloop.
If i press power and volume - it makes an restart but still the same problem.
Pressing powerbutton for more than 10 seconds didn't do anything.
I tried to go to twrp with power and volume - switching volume - with volume + after display goes black but twrp didn't start.
Have anybody a idea what i could do, to boot the phone and how i get my data of internal storage
best regards
segg

Helo!
I have the same situation, for the future: do not update magisk manager, because it confuse the boot partition.
1., go to download mode and flash the twrp again
2., if you have backup from the working system: restore only the boot partition and restart - otherwise need reinstall the rom (without format your data)
It is working for me (note 10 SM-N970F/DS)

Hello,
thank you for your information. I flashed first twrp new but twrp didn't start. I don't know what i did in wich order now but i was forced to make a factory reset so i flashed the stockrom and flash than then twrp to restore my backups.
Now i know that twrp didn't make a complete backup from my nand and i lost many data. Why i can make a backup from my data partition if my data isnt backed up? This feature is really useless. So now i have to find out how i can rsync my phone with all data before i lost my data again.

Maybe help for twrp start:
When you flashed twrp and phone reboot, you must pushing immediately power and volume up button both starting twrp first time. If twrp running, you can backing up anything you want, and pc can read phone storage also.

Yes thats true but i had no chance to go to twrp if i was pressing the power and volume + button nothing happens still after the new flashed twrp. I automatically come to a menu where i should make a factory reset. After this the phone still didn't boot and i flash the whole stock image on the phone and install root and twrp. than the phone and twrp works and i install my last backup from february. Saidly i found out my data wasn't backed up and only my apps and some other things was back.
Thanks for your replay.
The data is now lost so i can't change this now. I read twrp didn't backup /data/media.
I try to find out how to get sshd and rsync running with root rights. I tried now simplesshd but i can't explore the whole phone and don't get root rights. My plan is to sync all data every day with my nas.

Did you even create a backup? Whenever I mess with my phone, I always make a backup.
In this case I think you didn't, and you're saying you can't access recovery either?
Try again and see if you can by holding the button combination to open recovery.
If that doesn't work, go into boot loader, connect your phone to your PC and using adb boot it into recovery. (Only if there is no option for recovery in your boot loader).
Tell me how it goes and I'll continue to help you out.
Just make sure to @ my user so I know I've been mentioned. I have way to many posts and subscribed threads to go through.

[6045Y] Idol 3 won't go into fastboot or recovery

Hi, today I wanted to restore a twrp backup (in order to unroot and get the OTAs updates) posted there : http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/general/want-to-able-to-install-ota-updates-t3163745, the Model: 6045Y(Europe) Firmware: 5.0.2-010 05 (my idol 3 is the 6045Y).
I wiped everything but OTG and external sd.
I first restored the system image and then the boot because there are 2 files with this backup.
My idol 3 now just boots fine, but every 4-5 minutes, depending on how hard I am using it, it reboots to system.
When I try to boot in fastboot mode with adb reboot fastboot, it doesn't work and shows a black screen. When I press vol up + power, it goes into a kind of "recovery" (don't know if it's the right name of this mode, but there are a lot of options like wipe data, cache, install update with adb and it seems to be stock) (I precise I tried to factory reset/wipe data multiple times and it didn't solve my problem).
When I try to go into recovery, it does the same thing except it never reboots (I can only factory reset/wipe via the "recovery I told you about up there).
On my SD I have 3 working twrp backups which I could restore if i could access the option to.
What I would need to do to solve my problem is, I guess, figure out how to access my recovery (which should still be installed) or how to boot on it with adb on my computer, and then restore one of the twrp backups on my SD which are working.
If you know how to do that or just how to solve this reboot problem, please answer the thread. Thanks in advance.

The correct adb commands are
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
or
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
and from there you should be able to boot the TWRP image with
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1bbb boot <recovery image filename>

Messed up upgrading to 10.3.4 - can't do anything now

Spent about 1 entire day now and I think am in worse shape than when started.
Rooted with Magisk went from 10.3.3 to 10.3.4, and the phone was working, but didn't have TWRP recovery.
So, putting that back on is when the trouble started. Got TWRP on, and all the phone would do was boot to recovery.
Have since tried lots of things, and learned, apparently a TWRP backup is of no use whatsoever - can't restore the phone from the backup. (Restore "restores" but it doesn't boot.)
As I tried different things (flashing the full 10.3.3 and/or 10.3.4 OTA), at one point I got the phone back booted, but wifi wouldn't turn on and the cell signal didn't work - and now, I'm at a point where with TWRP in either slot A or slot B, cannot mount Data partition.
Really stuck now - don't know what to do.
I have TWRP backup of 10.3.3 before I did the upgrade - but doesn't seem like it can be restored, and now I don't know if there's anything I can do to mount Data partition again?
What can I do?
Do I have to basically factory reset the phone? Any suggestions?
TIA!

If you still have the cellular and wifi problem then you are not alone. Simply flashing android 9 image via edl mode and installing update to android 10 locally fixed for me. As you boot to 9 don't turn on wifi or cellular just download the update packages via pc, copy to internal storage then local update via system updates. Once you are on android 10 then install TWRP and root. TWRP backup only work if your data partition is decrypted.

Hi,
Just a suggestion, was in this predicament before and the the thing that save me was my OTG USB stick with a USB C adapter, moved the latest rom(full rom 2.4gig) to it with TWRP installer , wiped( factory reset in twrp and installed the full update followed by TWRP installer. Reboot into recovery and did the same steps,
Reboot system,
Could never get MSM to work always param preload nonsense.... LOL.

I'm not sure what you did.
How I normally upgrade is:
1. Local install
2. Install Magisk after OTA option
3. Reboot
4. Local install again, the other slot
5. TWRP zip install from Magic (do not reboot)
6. YOU ARE NOW UNROOTED.
7. Use Magisk Manager to do direct install (do not reboot)
8. Use Magisk Manager to do OTA install
9. Now reboot.
You have same firmware, TWRP and root on both slots.
If you can flash the stock boot image from 10.3.4 you can recover.
Thanks for all the replies.
I wish I could have done what Tech_Head wrote, but it wasn't happening for me.
I couldn't flash using OTG either as I couldn't mount USB with TWRP.
In the end, I was able to get back to life using the Fastboot flash method from This Thread, but, also not without complication

Home button and list_current_apps button don't work after twrp backup

Hello, I had fun with a lenovo tablet m10 TB X605F, I managed to root it, install magisk and twrp recovery.
But after some time I installed a magisk module which bootlooped the tablet. I tried to remove the module using the file manager but the bootloop was still there.
So I decided to restore a backup with twrp before rooting the tablet.
I checked the system, data , boot , vendor-img and firmware-img boxes and restarted the device but now my home button (the one you press to go to the main menu ) and the button to its right, the one needed to quickly change applications, these two don't work only my back button works.
Can someone help me please? ,
someone ?

I have a zip file which will disable all of your Magisk modules so do you have backup where your tablet was in bootloop so you can just flash it?

No, I'm sorry, but I found something, if I reset the tablet and restore the twrp backup with system data and boot checked, the buttons work but not the wifi, and if I reset the tablet and restore the twrp backup with system data, boot, firmware image and vendor image, the wifi works but not the buttons.snt

Do you have root? You could try remapping those buttons with some application from Play Store.

Restoring data from stock 11.1.1

Hi,
So it seems when i restore data via TWRP it triggers the protection which encrypts the whole sdcard, can this be avoided?
Here are the steps i did:
Full wipe
fastboot boot twrp (Nebrassy)
sideload stock 11.1.1
sideload magdisk
Finished setting up the device
Then booted twrp again
Did full backup
And then it never boot again to system... no idea why could be the twrp.
Now i'm stuck with this backup, every time i restore it, the entire sdcard gets encrypted.
I've tried flashing both stock boot and patched boot but it didn't help
Any ideas or should i do it all again and lose twrp, seems to be very buggy at v11.1.1
I managed to solve this issue myself.
Encryption is forced by default since android v10 i think so that means when you try to flash any data it has to be either the same type or it would encrypt the whole internal storage, i.e. you can backup just fine but if you restore and reboot the phone will tamper with all the data making it unreadable.
You need to disable encryption first then flash the data and then it works fine, unless you disabled it to begin with of course.
Another key point here is that when the phone encrypts the entire storage you won't be able to flash anything else until you completely erase everything.
Wasted hours on this on OP6 and OOS 11.1.1 + Unofficial Twrp,
Here is a short summary of the main points:
Full backup from TWRP works fine but copy it elsewhere or you might lose it when restoring
If you booted into encryption i used to flash lineageos recovery then boot into it and do a full wipe, then flash twrp back. i don't think it works from that twrp version
If you want to disable encryption or restore backups use this one (only one that worked) https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ncrypt-disk-quota-disabler-11-2-2020.3817389/
If you want OOS v11.1.1 + TWRP + Root + Backups do it in the following order: Unlock Bootloader, Boot TWRP, Install TWRP permanently, Flash Magdisk, Flash DFE
Not sure it's important but lineageos has a script for A\B slot phones like OP6 to sync slots, should be used at least once after flashing V11 just in case to avoid possible problems https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/enchilada/install
I'm also adding stock and patched boot images in case someone needs them.
