Question about the countdown timer of unlocking bootloader.
I had my account tied to my phone number, and had the 168hrs waiting on the mi-flash tool.
Don't and will not logout until the timer reached, is what I read for the wait.
The question is: do I need to keep the internet access for the phone during the countdown process ?
I don't understand if the count down is suppose to have the mi-account logged into the phone and "their system will check the total net access for 168 hrs" or just since you press the option in the developer section then you wait 168hrs?

You don't need to keep your phone connected to the internet all the time. you're even free to turn it off/restart at any time. The countdown happens on their side.
Just like you said, you just have to watch out not to remove the Mi account from your phone, as that may restart the timer.

Thanks for the reply !!
Came to Poco x3 pro from Mi4i straight, so I'm confused with the countdown. Not that complicated in the era of miui 6

I recently purchased an s6 (1 month) and used the fingerprint scanner to secure the device. I made a backup password and made sure it worked and all was well until one day when it all of a sudden stopped working. Normally I leave Wifi on and could solve this issue but as to save battery I had disabled it this time around, silly me. So the fingerprint scanner denied my entry, led me to the backup password which also failed (even though it was correct) and then Wifi was off so Google verification did not work.
Being a new phone, I did not get a chance to turn on USB debugging (this happened 1 week after purchase) so using ADB to turn on wifi was of no use, it did not recognize the device.
Here is what I have tried to do to recover the data up till now:
>I used ODIN to install TWRP on the device.
>With TWRP enabled I made a backup of the data and attempted to connect to adb once again, Using my sisters Galaxy S6 I tested out whether hers worked, just to make sure everything was fine with the drivers and to make sure adb devices recognized her phone: it did.
>I ran ADB devices while in TWRP and it recognized my device, but came back OFFLINE, meaning no commands were able to run.
>I then attempted to run a series of drivers and to access files directly from windows 7 and did not have access permissions to read nor write, thus unsuccessful.
>I went back to ODIN and sought out a stock rom to flash to the partition in order to get access to the backup data i had created using TWRP, as there seems to be methods to flash a rom and maintain the backup data.
> With ODIN i tried this, but was unsuccessful, as it got stuck on "Nand Write start" and would not initialize any transfer with the phone . ( The download mode would not start the progress bar)
>Finally i tried to do it with TWRP but because i have no write permissions, i cannot put anything onto the device for it to run.
I called Samsung about this and they know of the issue and refuse to help me other than a useless factory reset. They knowingly allow users to continue using their fingerprint option for security but do not give warning of its issue, nor do they provide a simple fix like allowing wifi to be turned on from the lock screen. It is a shame that a company like this just allows a known software bug to bother users but doesn't make them aware of it, nor provides a temporary fix while they work on fixing the issue.
I am stuck, and need your help, I have done everything I can think of but can't get anywhere, please help me retrieve my data. Thanks
Wifi is off but how about 4G/LTE data?
If your 4g lte data is working you can use findmymobile(samsung site) and unlock it from there. There's an option to unlock your phone. I came across this issue last month.
Sent from my SM-G920T1 using Tapatalk
Yeah LTE is also off, otherwise google login would have worked.
I can access the WiFi toggle from the lockscreen without having unlocked the phone via FP - although I'm not locked out the phone so wondering if being locked out stops you gaining access to the notification drawer as well

Via FP? well I can indeed access the notification drawer (from the top, right?) but when i enable wifi it asks me to login using the fingerprint.

What does "FP" stand for?

FP - Finger Print
i have the same problem what to do now i dont want to lose data and my s6 edge is not recognising my fingerprint rather asking for a backup password and i forgot the backup password so the wifi or mobile data is switched off and i cant even turn it on what to do now?????
I have the same problem...agree completely "They knowingly allow users to continue using their fingerprint option for security but do not give warning of its issue, nor do they provide a simple fix like allowing wifi to be turned on from the lock screen. factory reset is "the only way" to unlock it. Lazy samsung customer service response.
logging in via google is not an option on S6 / new android system anymore so if you forget your pin you're stuffed
this is really poor on samsung behalf to not give warning of the seriousness of using a fingerprint scanner
ha I can't remember (and can't check now) but does it even ask for the pin twice to verify what you entered what was intended?
google use to have a device pin reset but it was removed recently.
I bet heaps of people have this issue.
I am desperate for a solution...
I just registered to help future users having the same problem.
Guys I spent around 15 hours trying to unlock my samsung galaxy s6, and found a solution. You're wellcome because you need google acc+dont need a connection for this to work (worst case scenario).
It didnt recongnize my fingerprints, and my backup password didnt work. I couldnt sign in to my google account since my wifi and mobile data was turned off before the device locked.
This is the solution i found AFTER 15 hours of this madness, you need to be quick:
1) enter wrong backup password 5 times
2) wait 30 secounds countdown
3) enter wrong backup password 5 times
4) wait 30 secounds countdown
5) select sign in with google account
6) enter google account credentials (DONT SIGN IN YET)
7) hold 'wake up button' (home button)
8) press emergency mode and go thru with aggreeing to all it asks you to
9) press TURN ON, and after that press 'sign in' with your google account (where step 6 left off)
If you were quick enough, you will enter emergency mode and you will pass the lock screen, now quit the emergency mode the same way and change your backup password, and write it down this time so this doesnt happen again. You are wellcome.
Thank you, that happened on 4th try, "quick enough" is the key. It appears that it turns on WiFi and mobile data for fraction of a second during the process.
yeah i seen that for a fraction of seconds wifi turns on but how should i unlock i am not done please please help me i dont want to lose my imp data
THANK YOU!!!

Hello all,
My sister recently bought a Xiaomi smartphone for her 12-year old son. But after just a few months, her son forgot the lock pattern that he had use on the phone, as he was constantly changing it.
So, now the phone is working Ok, but we cannot log into it, as we do not know the pattern.
We have his credentials for the google account, and the Xiaomi (Mi) account.
However, t here is no option to use them to unlock the phone.
We also tried to contact Xiaomi, they asked for the Mi account credentials, and after we provided these credentials to Xiaomi, they sent us an SMS with a code...which did NOT work!
So, I don't really know what to do, except to us for help, as none of us is very technical.
I found this program (Mi account unlock tool), but since it is not an official Xiaomi program, I am scared that maybe it is a virus or something like this - do you think I should use it?
If not, then how can I unlock the phone?
I am OK with doing a factory reset, and losing all settings and data that are currently on the phone, if that is necessary.
Also, please note that when I press the power button and the volume up button, I do NOT get an options menu, I get a picture with a phone and a usb cable - probably the phone wants me to connect it to the computer, but I am not sure about what the next step should be.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you
Looking for a little clarity on the bootloader unlocking procedure -- maybe I'm getting old, because I'm a bit lost.
No, not maybe -- I'm definitely getting old...
I've just received my Mi Mix 3 with MIUI Global, updated to 10.2 Stable OTA this afternoon, and my SIM card is inserted and working.
I have a Xiaomi account -- set it up when I got some of their Yeelight light strips a year or so ago -- and I can log in to the account at https://account.xiaomi.com. I've gone through the initial setup on the Mi Mix 3, adding the Mi account on the phone, and it shows I'm successfully logged in. I've enabled developer options, and in the developer options settings I've enabled both USB debugging and OEM unlocking. When I go into Settings -> Developer Options -> Mi Unlock Status, I'm prompted to agree to the necessary permissions for Mi Unlock to access my account, and I agree. The page then shows "This device is locked/The phone is secured" with a blurb about why the device should remain locked, then the steps to take to unlock the device if you understand and accept the risks. The steps it displays are:
1. Insert SIM card -- done
2. Turn off WiFi and use mobile data -- done
3. Tap "Add account" button to associate Mi account with this device -- done, with a success notification
4. Download unlock tool from website -- and here it gets iffy...
I go to http://en.miui.com/unlock, and click the Unlock button, then download the Mi Unlock Tool. I unzip into an empty directory, and run the miflash_unlock.exe as Administrator. In the app, I agree to the disclaimer, and enter my account details, then watch the spinner while the app checks to see if my Mi account has permissions. After a few seconds, I receive the error:
Account application area query failed
This repeats indefinitely if I accept the application's offer to "Try Again".
Does anyone know what this means? Does it mean my request to unlock has been denied? Maybe I'm stuck in the 72 hour waiting period I've heard about (though nothing on my phone, on the website, or in the unlock application indicates anything about a 72 hour wait)? Or is the app unable, for some undisclosed reason, to access my Mi account information? I'm a little stumped, here.
Looks like _maybe_ I've figured it out... Downloaded an older version of the unlock utility (v3.3.525.23). Gets me past the "Account application area query failed" error. Now, when trying to unlock, I'm getting this:
Couldn't unlock
After 71 hours of trying to unlock the device
Which I'm interpreting as meaning I just have to wait the 3 days.

Yes, sounds like you have it working, its just a waiting game now.
TLDR; is there a way to bypass the mi unlock tool, cuz it ain't working for me. timer keeps getting reset. and no matter what i do, it keeps happening. also xiaomi support is absolutely useless
so i received my k20 pro about a month or more ago with the intention of putting on a custom rom.
from what i can tell, i've done everything right. i initially had 360 hours to unlock according to the tool. opened it again the next day to make sure the counter was going down. and it was fine.
but then i went back about a week later, and the countdown was at 380!!
did some digging and fiddling seems like perhaps i reset the account on the phone somehow or maybe the update to miui 11 reset it, i dunno, it certainly was NOT intentionally signed out.
so i made sure to do everything proper (which btw might be impossible bcuz all the guides are either broken chinese/english translations, or the ui/menus have changed, links to the english forums go nowhere): removed/re-enabled the mi account on the phone. dev mode. pair the account to the mi unlock status
380 hours.... check the next day.... looks good
that was about 6 days ago. so i went to double check the countdown again today.... back to 380!?!?!?!?
what the hell is going on? something reset again? now i legit cant even find the developer options menu. and the mi account thing. something reset developer mode. just had to go reactivate it
is there anyway to just bypass all this crap and unlock the bootloader, or something i am doing to cause this reset??? do i just have to leave the phone on the fastboot screen for 380 hours or something?
its been weeks with miui and i really want it gone, i dont want to start another 380 countdown to just go back a week later and have it reset
plz help, thanks

that was a post i made on reddit a few weeks ago. i've since had a timer in my calendar, to wait the allotted time. only to see the timer reset TWICE. it's about a total of 4 times that this timer reset has happened to me.
i have contacted xiaomi "support" during all these resets and they all send me some boiler plate message along the lines of:
"I would request you to follow the timer/ waiting period shown in Mi Unlock Tool to unlock successfully, you'll see this sentence "Couldn't unlock the device after XXXX hours" which means "Please unlock after XXX hours." There is some translation issue in Mi Unlock Tool. Also would like to inform you that after you've successfully bound your Mi Account, do not log out the approved Mi account from your phone. Otherwise, the timer will be reset and you gotta spend more time waiting again."
i've literally begged them to put me into contact with someone who can actually help. my last message literally said plz don't respond with a canned answer, and guess what, i got the same canned answer, yay.
My friend's son died in a car crash, so I would like to get the sentimental data off of the device. Here are my ideas:
Idea 1: In recovery mode, the device is found, but the computer is not authorized. Unfortunately, no access to the son's PC. An exploit to find the correct key would work.
Idea 2: Brute force 4 digit pin. I could do it, but the lockscreen wait time is currently 30 minutes. It will probably go up to 1 hour. Brute forcing would take a year. Also no guarantee his pin was only 4 digits.
The solution is probably brute force + network spoof. The date and time are synced with the cell network. If you could feed incorrect date and time info to the phone, you wouldn't have to wait in between guesses. I would do this, but I am not sure how.
Idea 3: Sideload fake OTA update that removes password lock . This would work if you had the official key. Maybe I could send the phone to Samsung and have them do it?
I'm open to any ideas.
Hello , I am giving the data recovery service from locked mobile phone. If you need feel free to contact me on xxxxxx
