Question OP9 vs OT8t - OnePlus 9

Hi to all, I have now an OP6T, I'm thinking to change it and are in dubt between the OP8t or the OP9. The OP8t saves me €130, with good compromise of hardware and OIS (even if camera isn't the biggest factor, I use a GCam 8.1 BSG and I'm fine with OP6T) in the OP9 I like the new hardware and the wireless charging.
Could you give me yoyur opinion if OP8t is again a good choice, saving some money?
Thanks in advance
Cesare

Having used both and owning the OP9 now, the only real difference for me is wireless charging and maybe the speakers. Yes the cameras are different but for what I do it's not a difference that affects me that much. I enjoy having wireless charging and really wanted it in my next device which is the only reason I chose the OP9 buy most other things feel and function the same in both devices.
If you decide to save the extra money by getting the 8T, you won't be missing out on much.

OP6 or LG V30

Hope you're not going to hate me for this question, but I'm torn and really could use some advice. Where I live I can get the OP6 or LG V30 for a similar price.
OP6: I really like the design of the device (even the notch) and I like OP's take on Android (the skin; additional features such as more options when taking screenshots or the reading mode). The mute slider seems cool. From what I could read, OP releases software updates more frequently and faster than LG, which would be important to me. The camera for the most part is praised in the reviews. It's a newer phone, so better processor, more RAM, but I doubt it will matter much if I mostly use my phone for browsing the web, Spotify, Netflix and taking pictures on the go.
LG V30: I like the idea of having a wide-angle camera and better audio quality on headphones. Also, the SD card slot will make transferring data from my current Galaxy S7 easier (and I won't have to ever worry about running low on space). The camera seems to be attracting quite a lot of criticism, however, and I want my phone to just work out of the box - I don't want to have to install the Gcam to take good pictures. Don't care about the video capabilities - never shoot videos. Don't take a ton of selfies, but if the front facing camera is as bad as they say, that would be a real bummer.
What's your opinion guys?
i would say go for OP6. You already has listed pros of OP6 + it has latest hardware + hell of XDA support. Most importantly OP is in the 2 place when it comes to delivering updates!!
I have both. I've had the v30 since launch and have tried to switch to other phones and just can't see to like another phone enough to leave it. I have the OP6 right now and as I use it I'm wanting to switch back to the V30...but promised myself I'd give it until the weekend. it is snappier/faster but the v30 is just such a great phone all around and I love the wide angle lense.
here are some photo comparisons in auto mode. I prefer the v30 in most shots.

Another thing to ask your self is if you have interest in running custom ROMS. You are on this forum so I will say that you may at least have an interest in doing so or possibly desire for root. If I am not mistaken, to-date, the only version of the V30 that is capable of being unlocked and rooted is the LGUS998 which is LGs carrier free Unlocked version. No carrier version has been able to be unlocked and rooted as of yet. Thus you will be limited to what updates LG provides and any apps that don't require root.
That said, the LG V30 is indeed a nice phone. I contemplated buying this myself but I absolutely need root. Was going to get the unlocked version however, I believe with the difficulty / not being able to unlock any other model, development support has been low. Thus lost interest in it personally. Also, price was kind of high at the time with mediocre performance in comparison to other phones (S8, S9, OP5T, etc). To me if the price is the same for both OP6 and LG V30, then it's a no brainer and go with OP6. However, if you can get the V30 for at least $100 cheaper, then I might steer to the V30 as it's a nice phone. However for same price. OP6 all the way.
I like the OP6 more than the V30 so far. The OS on the OP6 has a lot more customization and is more stock. It's a little faster feeling. If your headphones are "normal" headphones you probably won't notice a huge quality difference. If I were to rate the audio quality on recent devices it would go like this:
Exynos S7 Edge < Pixel 1 < Pixel 2 dongle < OP6 < V30. The OP6 sounds really good to me.
That's with 1More dual driver IEM's, Sony XBA-A3, Audeze iSine 20. I can't speak to trying to drive full size or higher impedance headphones.
I like the camera quality better from the OP6 in my environment, and the camera app performance is much better than the V30. The low viewfinder framerate on the V30 made framing stuff annoying. Right now, you have the option to use GCam on the V30 and it works decently. Currently there isn't a working port for the OP6.

Thank you! I saw your pics in another thread and was also surprised to like the V30 photos better (surprised because of all the criticism that V30 is getting for stills performance). What is it that you like about the V30 so much that you find yourself going back to the device? What worries me is that here on Xda, V30 seems to have rather low ratings in the "Real Reviews" section, so clearly many people are not in love with the phone.

Thanks! I use A-Jays for headphones, which are supposed to be good, but not audiophile headphones for sure. I am happy to hear that you're satisfied with the audio output quality on the OP6. Judging by software tours on YouTube, I was also leaning more towards the OP6. Choices, choices!

Yep, more than satisfied with the headphone jack quality! I was contemplating getting one of those new LG Q7+ because it would be cheap and has the Quad DAC - I'd just leave it at work as a dedicated player. But I would have no desire to do that now with the OP6. It closed the gap between the Pixel 2 dongle and the V30 a pretty good amount. I do miss GCam though.

The main thing for me is the wide angle lens. I can't tell you how many times I use it in a week. I could maybe get by without it but it would be inconvenient. I really don't see why LG is the only one doing this with the second camera. Google has proved you can do portrait mode with one lens and a 2x zoom is really nothing/pointless. Second is the screen to body ratio. It is the best feeling phone in my hands with the largest possible screen. I also love the power button and FP sensor in one of the back but I know LG is changing that and many others don't like it. I just think the less buttons you put on the sides the better. I can tell you I never accidentally press the volume button when going to power off (or vice versa) like I have on so many other phones. LG also has always on display and I just prefer how they display their clock better than any one else (I use it by my bed at night). Wireless charging and IP67 is a big plus as well.
On the downside (keeps me looking at others). Speed of the phone and updates. It is not a slow phone by any means but when you use the OP6 you notice a feeling of speed between screens. V30 won't be getting "P" this year OP 6 will. Selfie camera on V30 is bad. I don't take many selfies.
So for me the cons outweigh the pros on the v30 more than any other phone.

Thanks guys for all your comments and suggestions. Really appreciate it.
In case anyone is interested what I've decided and why, I went ahead with the LG V30, figuring that if I hate it, it will be easier to return. Also, the wide-angle camera and SD card support were important factors. I already have a 128GB SD card from my old Galaxy S7, so switching to V30 was a breeze.
In addition, living in a non-euro country, I would have effectively paid 50 euros more for the 256GB OP6 than for the 64GB LG V30, because of the fees that PayPal/banks are charging when translating currencies. And with V30, 64GB is enough, because of the SD card I already have. So that's that.
But so far so good. V30 seems like a good phone with its own share of nice little features (especially like the quick controls in always on-display - don't know if that's LG or standard Android).

Switch s10 plus for oneplus 7 pro..

Hi guys. Any benefits to go for op7 pro?
Does it worth to switch from s10 plus?
I live in Europe so I have exynos version.
Thank you.
The power of the S10 Plus be with you
Hey there the S10+ is great and has so many features that it's almost the perfect package.
Obviously you know the details of each device so it just boils down to what do you mind sacrificing?
No wireless charging (this is a great feature) however it's NOT at the point where OnePlus are ready to adopt it. I can see their perspective, we all enjoy a dash (Warp) charge and be good to go, wireless charging is slow and cause's heat which degrades the battery. So while it's good and nice to have, it's not all that it's cracked up to be, convenience in some situations but not important for me.
SD card support again this is a great hardware feature but with cloud and the fact that you have OTG, 256gb internal then again it's not a must have for me.
The 7 Pro has a Fantastic (uninterrupted) Display and yes 90htz is noticeable and something I rather enjoy.
Also there is OxygenOS and while OneUI is a great improvement, there for me is nothing that beats the Stock with a slight hint of mint or whatever your flavour, it's fluid, stock like, has the perfect blend of additions......it just runs very well.
Ok I'm not going to go through all the points, but I had the S10+ 8/512gb Ceramic white (Exynos). Decided to sell and pick up the 7 Pro and I really don't regret my decision. While the camera might not be quite as good (it's for me perfectly acceptable).
It just comes down to trade off's as with any switch of device really...., But I honestly don't think you'll regret unless the features like wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, SD Card ect are that important to you?

I'm switching from the SD S10+ to 7 Pro 12GB. Here are my reasons:
- Root apps (invested in many) + MM
- Longevity & quicker updates
- Custom roms
- Ability to capture logs from the device (Root)
- 90hz & no punch hole
- Customer service (they treat people really well at events & online support is friendly)
- UFS3.0
- Network instability and slow data speeds on S10+ compared to Note 8 & LG G7
I expect downgrades in these areas: battery life, mic quality, audio, features, and camera. I'll see which of these hold true in a few weeks, enjoying my G7 for the time being.
I just sold my S10 Plus and am regretting it. The camera is a big let down on the 7 Pro. Especially indoors and with fast moving kids.

The camera is the worst part, even with 9.5.7, I miss too many shots of my kids between shutter lag / blurriness and bad color.
Battery was better on S10+.
I've been back using my Pixel 3 XL because of the camera.

Should I switch from the S10+ to the Oneplus 7 Pro?

I'm going to be straight forward:
I'm a little sick of One UI and I really miss Oxygen OS. I've felt in love with the 90hz display and the almond color but I didn't really used the phone.
I have just this questions:
Which is the best in BATTERY LIFE?
Which is the best in CAMERA? (after the most recent update)
Which is the best in ERGONOMY?
Which is the best in AUDIO? (I don't care about the headphone jack)
People that have made the switch OP7Pro -> S10+ or S10+ -> OP7Pro, can you tell me your reasons?
THANK YOU!

I own both.
Battery: about the same maybe leaning towards the S10+
Camera: S10+
Ergonomics: S10+ (much nicer phone to hold)
Audio: toss up
I get bored with phones really easily so rooting the 7 pro does have its advantages but if you're not going to root the S10+ is just a better phone.

Hard to say as there are a lot of different GCam versions and so far I haven't found one I prefer over the stock 7 pro camera. The latest update really helped the stock 7 Pro camera.
Not to say a great version isn't out there for the 7 Pro but all the ones I have tried I prefer the stock camera.
I own the US Snapdragon version S10+ so no root for me either. Unrooted vs. Unrooted the S10+ has way more customization available. It's honestly the first phone I haven't felt the need to root.
This is coming from somebody who hasn't owned a Samsung since the Note 4 and has owned almost every OnePlus.
The biggest advantage is rooting, unlocking the bl etc.
If that's not important to you, you lose many features like
Wireless charging (I don't care tbh)
No IP rating (not even because of water, but because of dust. I don't trust OP in that regard, an ip rating would've been better - especially since the camera is a moving part that might let some dust in when the rubber is worn out).
No always on display (bummer for me, others don't care)
Filming in wide angle
And a very important point: The display of the s10 plus is the brightest of all flagships.
But rooting is very important to me, so I have no alternative to the OP7 pro.

1. With 90hz + FHD my 7P appears to be close to the US S10+. Mine has been used for < 24hrs, therefore I can't point out a winner. With my S10+ I regularly hit 10hrs SOT, sometimes a bit more with lighter usage or 7-8 with heavy.
2. S10+ with an altered gcam config will win, no doubt about that. I grabbed some sweet shots on mine. I'll test the 7P at some point.
3. In-hand there's no mistaking the premium device. Not to say the 7P is bad, it's just playing in another league.
My transition from Samsung to 1+ can be reduced to root, as well as longevity. Although it's also true that reception was awful for me, whereas the 7P posts better dbm values.

Unfortunately I can't use gcam (well, I kinda can but it's worse than the stock camera) with the S10+. I intend to use the OP7 Pro with 90hz and FHD as I use the S10+ with FHD.
Please, update me with some battery stats after
I was using Samsung phones since galaxy s2 till galaxy s8+. I switched to OnePlus 7 Pro for one main reason. Better display. First of all it is 90hz fluid amoled vs very good display on S10+ but:
1. 60hz
2. Punch holed
I know that some people do not see the difference between 60 - 90hz to be honest not sure why but maybe they do not want to see it and also I know many people think that punch hole is great option. I want to use full potential of the screen. I have returned every TV and monitor with single burned pixel. I just can not stand any form of notch or hole.
That is why I did not buy Galaxy S10+
If you do not care about phones display and you can accept punch hole and if you accept that your phone will start to work slower and slower every month( intentional phone silting) and you can not root it go for s10+
OnePlus made a huge impression on me with fluid work and it is very close to IOS experience which I had sometime ago.

I have both phones also and I have to say I prefer the 7 pro. The camera is definitely not as good to me, I think the 7 pro has a better battery life ( that may just be due to my personal use) for ergonomics, I'd have to give that to the OnePlus and for audio they seem about the same to me
So all in all I think if you don't care about pics as much then I think the 7 pro is a better choice. (Pics are essential to me so I need Both). My sim card is mostly in the 7 pro ( because I live rooting and have a SD s10+)

I'm not an owner of a S10+ but I switched from Pixel 3 XL unlocked to the TMobile OnePlus 7 Pro. My best friend has the S10+ and we've done our version of a comparison. The only follow up question for you would be if your OnePlus device will be carrier locked or unlocked. If you want the 90hz refresh rate and the Oxygen OS is your cup of tea and your device will be unlocked, then I'd say go for it. Honestly those 2 things are the real difference. Yes you get the fnatic mode with the unlocked OP7Pro, as well and more RAM (if you opt for the 12GB version) but those things are minor. If your OP7Pro will be carrier locked, and rooting/unlocking the bootloader is not your jam, then I would absolutely NOT switch over to the S10+. Honestly my only regret about the OP7Pro is the fact that it's carrier locked. If I could go back, I would've purchased it unlocked for sure.

It really comes down to the experience you're after. I'm currently using a Note 9 and while it's a great all around phone, Samsung's OneUI really detracts from the Android experience. It took a lot of tweaks to get everything running fast and smoothly.
The advantage of the OnePlus 7 Pro is you're getting a near stock Android experience and the ability to root and install custom ROMs. Sure, the camera may not be as good, but reviewers are saying the most recent update makes the camera quite good.
It's a tough choice for sure. The Samsung gives you a complete solution out of the box with wireless charging and headphone jack. The OnePlus gives you a cleaner, smoother software experience.

The Pie update with OneUI is why I got rid of my Note 9. It doesn't matter how good a device is. It can easily be ruined by a terrible software experience.
Iv'e switched from an Exynos S9+, had some screen burn in's that wasen't covered by warrenty.
The 1+7 Pro is a real beast when it comes down to performance. As we don't have SD versions of the Galaxy devices in my country.
Also, i diden't used any of the "extra" features like wireless charging etc'.
Not to mention most of sammy's apps...
Iv'e traded my S9+ and got a really good deal on the 1+. My plan was to wait for the note 10, but the price would be really too much, since i upgrade annually.

im i not a pro ? (purchase decision)

so ive been looking to move from my Pixel 3 to a oneplus and.
1- Size:im not into big phones, ive had big ones before and i dont want to go back:
the OP7 is a bit smaller, isnt any noticable on use, or is it just shorte ?
2-Notch:id rather had a teardrop than frankenstein (pop-up)
3- Screen style: straight bezzel is better than curved for me
many complain and i dont think im going to be into the curve
4-Warp charge: would be nice, but not having it aint the end of the world for me
5-Battery: the Non-Pro probably lasts a little more on its 3700 than the 4000 on the pro version taking into consideration the screen ?
6-Resolution and refresh rate: i know ill love it if i see it, but well i can let myself not get used to it, aint that a solution ?
7- MOST IMPORTANT is the camera.... i love my pixel 3 camera and im sad im "downgrading?" but is the OP7 even more of the downgrade from the OP7 pro when it comes to the main shooter if we forget about the wide angle ?
thanks a lot for your time, please weight in
main reason im leaving pixel is that it aint really supported in Norway, so i have problems sometime, no support for 4g calling and wifi-calling which i kinda a killer for me, because im a professional translator and need the call quality
the price difference of 200 euros between OP7 6gb 128gb and OP7P 8gb 256 is not much for me at all, but i just dont want a bigger more expensive phone that i dont really long for currently
If you can buy the op7 pro then go for it.Battery life is better on 7 mainly because of small screen and lower refresh rate and the main shooter performs the same as 7 pro.I personally use op7 and I don't have any complaints
In your case I would by the OP7 (non pro)
I was in the same situation before I bought the standard op7. I also doesn't like the bigger size and the elevator camera. And the curved display is also a con for me.
Camera quality is almost the same if you take normal pictures and nothing special.
Probably the OP7 would work out well...
Camera not great on OnePlus 7 or any other non 7 pro Oneplus,
Maybe go for a Mi 9T or K20 pro or indeed mi 9 which has teardrop notch but good camera,
I would personally get a 7 pro if I didn't already have a 6t.coincidently, I'm thinking of swapping my 6T for a Mi 9T for the greater number of features, better cameras and battery, though am hesitant because I do enjoy quick updates on Oneplus but am realizing a lot of updates are useless updates to weather and other Oneplus apps that you don't need

So you didn't have a OP7 and say camera is bad? Makes sense.
I switched from Mi9 to OP7 and I tell you Camera isn't better if you take standard pictures and nothing special. It's almost the same because the main sensor is the same. (48MP Sony IMX 586)

Believe it or not. OP7 Camera setup isn't the best, that's right but "better" always depends on point of view. It's not right if you say "OP7 is not great". That's absolutely bullsh.. You can take great Pictures even with one less lense.
Btw... I would never trust paid YouTuber...

Sorry for commenting on your new phone dude, your obviously very protective of that bad boy.But having had OnePlus 3,6,and 6T,I still believe OnePlus software is not good enough in the camera department. My 6T sucks without google cam. Xaoimi does it better IMOPO

Hi guys! Bought OnePlus 7 last week and have been playing with it for the past few days.
I have had my usage of flagships and budget phone, as my previous smartphones have been Galaxy S1, HTC One X, Motorola Droid RAZR, Xiaomi Mi3, Nexus 6P, Nokia 7 Plus and now OnePlus 7.
I was also very skeptical about the mixed reviews that this phone received for its camera and picture quality but after buying and using it for a brief time period, I am sure of one thing that it certainly is not "GOD level" aka Pixel Camera but the phone is pretty good for the price that is being offered.

Considering 7T Pro, have some questions

Hi, I'm considering the 7T Pro but have some questions.. would be thankful if you could answer them.
1. Is there a stable gcam that supports all of the lenses ? At least all the rear lenses..? If not, is there a gcam that supports both the main and the ultra wide angle lenses (my two most used)?
2. Is night sight stable with gcam ? Does it work with the ultra wide angle as well?
3. I travel a lot and hike a lot. The lack of Quick Charge support bothers me a lot because I'll need to carry a separate charger for the OnePlus (right now I use one 6 port QC3 for everyone)..well, nothing to do about that, but the other thing is : Sometimes I need a quick charge from a powerbank. Since both of my Powerbanks are QC3 , I guess I will only be able to charge slowly (2A) with the OnePlus 7T Pro.. does anyone know how slow it will be ? I'm trying to minimize the time my phone is connected to a powerbank. How long approx will it take to get from around 10% to 60%?
I don't understand OnePlus .. just add support for Quick Charge and keep using your warp thingy. It's a very Apple-ish move and which is very annoying to see on an Android platform.
4. I wasn't happy with the wide angle samples I've seen, does gcam make wonders there ?
5. Although no IP68, it should still be somewhat water resistant, right ?
6 battery life with 90hz / 60hz.. big difference?
Thanks !
I suggest waiting for OP8

No thanks... They went with notch display...
The reason why the 7 Pro was so appealing to me was the nothless display.

The quick charge and warp charge are very different implementations... The difference appears to be Quick Charge literally cooks the battery... Warp much less so...
I have a QC external battery bank too... It seems you can acheive near QC speeds on QC as long as you use the non supplied cable.
There are ports of gcam available that support the cameras I have read, what's so important about gcam though over stock?
Knowing what I know now, I'm glad I didn't wait for 7t pro, these devices are very easy to brick (ONLY IF YOU CHHOSE MUCK AROUND WITH It in the typical XDA fashion) ... However, there also very easy to unbrick with the tools and files provided on XDA. But without those tool your SOL... So, something you should consider... The availability of those tools should be an important purchase factor. You may be waiting a while for a like package to arrive for the 7t pro.
Thanks Cantenna.
After around 2 years with gcam, I understood that gcam is life
For someone like me (photography enthusiastic), the difference is very noticeable. Stock camera will kill details compared to gcam.
Personally I'm not fond of the curved display, but I like stock Android and the non Pro model had lower resolution screen which bothers me too..
Decisions...
Thanks for your input!

You know, I've only owned Samsung phones... S4 - S8+ and I read negative comments regarding the One Plus Pro 7 curved screen being more pronounced... but for me it seems to works great with my aftermarket Otterbox bulky case. Phone also ships with a screen protector already applied, so I've kept that on as well.
I got mine with shipping for $1,123.95 AUD (12GB/256GB)
This is the best phone I have ever owned and like you, the ASOP experience... Don't get hung up on the fast charge, phone actually still recharges very quickly with a standard USB C cable.
