Ok so I recently went on vacation and my phone was submerged in water. That's happened before but this time, the next day my phone started acting as if as I was holding the power button down and bringing up the advanced reboot options. Hitting the power button would turn the screen of and function normally but this persisted for about a day. Now my power button doesn't respond at all. I double tap the screen to turn it on so I can still use the phone. I'm afraid of going into bootloader or recovery and somehow getting stuck. I do have and use adb I just haven't proceeded. Any ideas? I believe it's hardware more than a software issue but maybe a wipe or reset would fix it?

My power button does not work at all. It doesn't put the phone to sleep nor can it wake it up. Holding it down doesn't even give me an option to shut it down and presumably it can't turn the phone on either.
So basically I think I just wore the button down. Now in spite of that, is there a way to reflash a new ROM without being able to turn it on using the button? I mean, if I remember the procedure correction, you just have to turn it off to take the sim card out and to put it back in. Can I forgo this step?
I mean, I am just sliding out my keyboard to wake it up but I fear if my battery ever fully runs down.
Try to Hard reset your device..
To perform a hard reset
1. Pull out the stylus.
2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
3. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
4. Release the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Yup, didn't work. Am I boned if my phone ever turns off? Jeez, and I just received that extra battery too.
Is there a way to remap the sleep button to the PTT key?
you dont have to pull out the stylus or have the device on to do a hard reset. just turn on the device and immediately hit volume down and center. once the screen lights up you can let go then wait for the reset message and press volume up.
anyways, if you have a att fuze, take it in, its under warrenty, theyll replace it. in any case you need it fixed. you cant live your live hoping your battery will never die. you cant turn it on or flash a new rom or anything without a working power button. if you dont have att im sure you can call htc and tell them you want it fixed and theyll mail you the supplies to get it shipped. just hope you can live without it for a couple days. its youre only options if you want it working.
I came back here all excited to post that it suddenly started working but it is back to the way it was.
The phone is really old so it's just of warranty and I don't think it is worth it to have it fixed when so many other problems are wrong with it. I guess it's time to be looking at new phones.
And now the power button is working. This phone just boggles the mind, people. I'm sure it'll stop working in a couple of hours though. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Maybe a short due to rain or something? Worn down contacts?
Same power button over here.
Sorry for reply on an old article but Google won't help me. I'm havin' the same problem. Na responds on the power button neither can i do a hard reset.
Anyone has a sollution. Phone is out of warranty ...
Is it a hadware problem of something with the software. Still has the (updated) stock rom. I've tried to reflash it with this latest rom but this didn't solved the problem.
Solved (for the time being..) The button seemed to be stuck. With my fingernail I managed to 'lift' it.
Hi, I have been flashed TAEL ROM, radio last month. Everything running fine until early of this morning.
I have not do any changes recently.
suddenly this morning I could not turn on the phone from standby. So I soft reset it, right after soft reset, it keep on reboot itself after reach TAEL ROM screen, sometimes after Windows Mobile screen.
I tried to get into bootloader screen but the nothing happened.
the reset button seems like cannot function now.
I press and hold vol down button then press on Reset but phone have no respond at all...
Anyone have experienced this and solved it?
Thank you!!
Try pulling out the battery for a while. That fixes this problem sometimes.
I would try a hard reset, if things do not improve.
Had to do one yesterday and it took me some time to find out how it's done for this phone so if you're not familiar with it here it comes:
1) Turn off the phone (take out battery for 5 sec, then put it back in)
2) Hold volume DOWN button and press the centre of the circle (enter button)
3) While holding those 2 buttons, power up the phone (and keep pressing this combination until you enter into bootloeader)
4) When in bootloader (I normally keep the volume DOWN and Enter button pressed, until I see the message in bootloader saying that in order to hard reset I should press volume UP, or any other key to cancel).
Hope this helps, and remember that you'll loose everything (programs, contacts, SMS, etc) if you do this.
Good luck.
Remove your sim and sd card before doing the hard reset..right?
It's not necessarily REQUIRED, but it is recommended.
I did a search but no solutions came up.
Basically, when I touch the screen to move the little lock icon over to unlock it nothing happens.
I powered it off by holding power for 10 seconds and then powered it on again.
No bueno, nothing happened.
Anyone else run into this and was able to solve it?
yes, i had the same problem, you will not like this..
do one step at the time and check if it works, if not continue to the next one
1. cold reboot (hold power button for 30-60 seconds),
you can try step 1 several times
2. turn it off, let it charge for 2-3 hours, turn it on
3. reboot to safe mode (this not really sure how i did it..lol.. i think is, turn off and turn on and quickly hold both volume keys until it boots up, if you did it correctly it will boot and say "safe mode" at the bottom left corner).
4. reset to factory settings, hold volume (-) and power key at the same time, (this will erase everything)
when i had this problem, i actually had to cold rebooted several times and reboot into safe mode after step 4 to have the touchscreen working again..I was about this close () to give up and return it to walmart..
I had the same thing happen to me, and all the rebooting in the world couldn't fix it. I don't know if you're still on stock rom or not, but what I did was reflashed the Prime rom and it worked again.
Nothing helped, even hard wipe.
Returned the TF.
I had this same problem... Unfortunately the only thing that worked was letting the power drain out. That was a huge pain because the Transformer has a killer battery and there are only so many times you can turn the screen on and off to drain it. It took about 4-5 days to fully drain. After that point I had upgraded to 3.1 and it has worked flawlessly since then... definitely a firmware problem not hardware.
The power button on my phone recently has stopped working. I need to get it warrantied, but I am running CM 10.2. I need to Odin back to stock, but I can not get into Download Mode or the recovery. When I go into Download mode, the initial screen pops up, the one where you choose to hit up to continue, or down to reboot normally. After I hit up, the screen goes black and nothing happens.
I really need to get back to stock, as Bestbuy are being dicks, and demanding I do a factory reset before they send my phone in.
Anything? I still need help on this.

This has been covered at least 10 times in the past few months we need a sticky. Take your battery out hold your phone so the power button is facing a table or floor and slam that side a few times it should work again (Temporary). You might need to hit it on the surface really hard 10-20 times before it works. Just not to hard or else you might crack the screen. I used a mouse pad to soften the impact. This trick no longer works for me so I ripped the button off. After about a month of doing this I needed to use things that would only hit the button to make it work. About a month after that nothing worked so I just took it off the motherboard and now boot from a off state by plugging into the wall and enter odin mode deny the prompt and it kicks me into a workable state.

I can get into the system just fine. When I go into the recovery or download mode, it doesn't stay in that mode. I tried the banging thing, and it made my power button go from intermittently working, to not working at all.
keep doing it until it works. The button is sticking that is why it reboots/stopped working.

It sounds like your power button is physically broken, and it is activating intermittently, which is stopping the phone from entering download mode. My only experience with this problem is my own phone but ultimately mine got so bad that I had to rip the button off the motherboard, as ThePagel did. Your symptoms sound the same as mine.
You can try this procedure to get into recovery, which works for me without a power button. You will probably have the same problem you are having now with the phone rebooting on its own before you actually get into recovery, because the power button is activating.
1. Take the battery out of the phone and unplug it from USB power.
2. Plug in USB power.
3. While holding down the volume-down button and the Home button, insert the battery (this is a little tricky).
4. The phone should start and warn you that you are entering Download mode. If you want to use Odin to return to stock, do that now.
5. If you want to get into Recovery instead, press Volume Down to reboot and then *immediately* push and hold Volume Up and Home simultaneously. The phone should reboot into recovery. Mine does.
If that doesn't work, and you can't get a new phone without returning it to stock, then prying the power button off the phone's motherboard may be your only solution.
So my power button has stopped working. It started by constantly turning the screen on and off, then bringing up the power menu again and again. I left it overnight to sort itself out. When I woke up, the phone had managed to reboot into safe mode, and then I tried to reboot back to normal. Now, the power button (and volume) is completely non-functional and the phone is stuck in (stock) system recovery.
Is there any other way to get the phone to reboot normally without use of the physical buttons?
I'd like to be able to do a more recent backup before I get the phone replaced. Thanks.
Have you tried pressing or holding the yellow Off button under the microSD/nanoSIM flap?

Yes. It would reboot to the same recovery screen.
The phone eventually booted normally. I think there was water in the power button, causing it to register button presses on its own and eventually not responding to the button at all. It must have dried over time because the button works fine now.
Then do a backup and do it quickly, 'cause you don't know what it's gonna do next...

Yup! All backed up and waiting for the replacement in the mail.
