[APP][SHIZUKU][08/06] Ambient Music Mod - Pixel Now Playing port - Android Apps and Games

Ambient Music Mod is a Shizuku/Sui app that ports Now Playing from Pixels to other Android devices.
Requirements
Android device running Android 9.0 or above (11+ recommended).
Shizuku (Android 12+) or Sui Magisk module (Android 9+).
Shizuku does not require root, instead needing an ADB command or a few button presses to be made every reboot.
Features
Full Now Playing support, based on the latest version from Pixel devices and the latest music databases
Automatic Ambient Music recognition, with settings to control how often recognition runs - finding the right balance between battery usage and convenience
Now Playing History, Favourites and Summary support
Support to trigger recognitions manually, including a homescreen widget
On Demand recognition on supported devices, using the Google Assistant-backed recognition engine for songs that are not in the local database (must be triggered manually)
Show Now Playing songs on the lock screen (accessibility service required)
View the full track list of recognisable songs, and change the database location if your taste does not match your device's locale

Changelog
2.3.1
- Fixed crash on Android 14 Beta 3
2.3
- Android 14 Beta 2 support
- Added option to control Ambient Music Mod externally from apps like Tasker with options:
Enable Now Playing
Disable Now Playing
Toggle Now Playing
Start an On Device Recognition
Start an Online Recognition (if supported & enabled)
- External Access can be protected by an Access Token which must be provided by the apps interacting with it (enabled by default)
- Updated dependencies
For info on how to use External Access, check the page in the app or the Wiki page
2.2.2
- Fixed On Demand not working via the root method on some devices
- Improved Track Listing info, showing more details on tracks where available and fixing the Ask Google button
- Crash fixes
2.2.1
This is quite a large update, please make sure to update Ambient Music Mod and then Now Playing from the Updates screen after installing
- Enabled Now Playing Summary in the Now Playing History, a new feature that's not even on Pixels yet, which displays statistics about your listening habits including genre, artists, and timings from the last 30 days (configurable down to 1 day up to 365 days)
- NNFPv3 (the updated model) is now enabled on all devices except legacy armv7. Google have switched Pixels over to using it, indicating music databases for the legacy model may stop being updated at some point.
Please note that due to format changes, a database update will be forced after updating, and any saved On Demand recognitions will be removed. This is unavoidable, and Google has already done this on Pixel devices with official Now Playing
- Added experimental option to download extra country databases (up to two)
- Added option to periodically (daily/weekly/monthly) back up to a specified location
- Improved track list viewer speed by caching track info in Ambient Music Mod, rather than loading it from the Now Playing database every time. This will increase the storage footprint of Ambient Music Mod, but you can clear the app's cache if it becomes an issue.
- Added a track info viewer to the track list, displaying all available information for a track on one page, including links to play tracks in the database
- Added option to edit and delete stored On Demand tracks
- Updated database downloader, and implemented a system whereby the system Job Scheduler (which is relied on to schedule downloads) gets told to expedite downloads where possible. This should improve the speed of database downloads.
- Improved Lock Screen detection logic
- Fixed an issue where some switches in the app behaved differently depending on whether the text or the switch handle was pressed
- Fixed an issue where notifications for Now Playing were being re-enabled after being disabled by the user on some devices
nb: Version 2.2.1 fixes a cache issue with 2.2 which may impact updates. For this reason, it has replaced 2.2 and that version has been removed.
2.1.2
- Fixed Restore option not showing any options of files to restore
2.1.1
- Improved adaptive lock screen overlay
- Fixed insets on 3 button devices
- Allow install on x86_64 devices without libhoudini or libndk
2.1
- Added x86_64 support
- Fixed Android 13 Shizuku issue
- Updated switch style
- Removed "run when battery saver enabled" as it was not functioning and cannot be fixed
- Fixed overlay continuing to appear when bedtime mode is enabled
- Added message about static noise to playback screen
2.0.5
- Fixed an issue where on device recognition would not work on some devices using Shizuku
2.0.4
- Added the ability for On Demand recognitions to run without the Magisk overlay module, so long as the device is rooted. You must start Shizuku as root or use Sui to make use of this method, and the overlay is still preferred if it works on your device. Please read the Wiki page for more information.
- Further improvements to the On Demand overlay, fixing issues on OnePlus devices
- Fixed the Lock Screen overlay not appearing when Smart Lock is enabled
- Fixed Alternative Encoding and Lock Screen Overlay colour options not being backed up
2.0.3
- Added armv7 support
- Fixed crashes on Android 10
- Fixed an issue where some tracks were not showing up in the track list or in the track count (US database is actually 69k tracks, not 53k)
- Added an option to change the lockscreen overlay text colour
- The lockscreen overlay text now has a slight shadow, improving visibility
- Added caching for updates, which should prevent rate-limit issues. You can force an update check (ignoring cache) by swiping to refresh.
- Enabled landscape orientation
- Fixed background crashes in Now Playing, which may help download issues.
- Improved Magisk On Demand module overlay installing, which may fix bootloops on some devices
Note: Due to issues with the backend database update system, there have been two database updates in the last two days. This is now fixed, and future updates will be timely rather than all at once. Apologies for any inconvenience.
2.0.2:
- Added alternative encoding option, fixing distortion/crackling on some devices when enabled
IMPORTANT: You must also update Now Playing to 1.0.1 for the alternative encoding option to work. Use the Updates page in the app to update Now Playing.
- Increased max gain to 3.0 to cope with new encoding which requires a higher gain on some devices
- Reduced the chance of audio recording errors
- Removed "Timeout" notification as it was more useless than it was useful
- Fixed unclickable Chips on Recognition Success page (eg. Ask Google)

My bad, forgot to knock the internal version back down after testing the update dialog. I've "updated" the APK on GitHub, it's exactly the same build with the correct internal version, and will install on top

Awesome module! Unfortunately, I couldn't get it working. (SM-A725F - Galaxy A72, Android 11)
When doing the test recognition, it says "Ambient Music failed to start". When I try multiple times, it does actually listen, but when it's done listening, it gives me "No response from Ambient Music".
I paid attention to all the steps and fixes, but none of them worked. Tried with LSPosed and Edxposed. Also tried without whitelist and checked, that ambient services has mic permissions.

Interesting that it's started listening fine but didn't respond at the end, that suggests that maybe the delay time isn't long enough. Try using it as if it were working, see if it picks up music playing as that doesn't have the same delay limit

Tried that, didn't work. Couldn't see any addition on my lockscreen, when playing music. My phone starts lagging when turning off or on, as soon as I enabled the recognition on lockscreen.

Alright then so it's probably not working at all. Can you do a log dump from the app? Instructions are in the FAQ.

This is the dump I got

Thanks, that's very useful:
Code:
sound_trigger_platform: platform_get_lsm_usecase: No lsm usecase found for exec_mode 0
is in the logs, suggesting it doesn't like the sound_trigger_platform.xml file, specifically the lsm_usecase bit. Unfortunately the current version of the app fails to zip that right when dumping, so could you do the following please:
- Send the current file in /system/vendor/etc/sound_trigger_platform_info.xml
- Disable the Magisk module in the Magisk app, and reboot
- Send the new file in /system/vendor/etc/sound_trigger_platform_info.xml (this should be different to the first, and be original to your device)
I'll then try to figure out if something else may be required to be added on some devices, or if there's a limitation of the 'magic numbers' in the file I took from the Pixels (in which case it will likely sadly never work).
I'll also fix the dump thing so it zips the xml correctly for the next build.
Cheers!

Re-enable the module, extract and drop the attached file in /data/adb/modules/AmbientMusicTest/system/vendor/etc/ and reboot, see if that helps
Side note, I really need to change that AmbientMusicTest name

Great, this really works! But now I noticed another problem..
The database is loading for ever when I go on Track list, it also cannot recognize any song.

It's unlikely to be loading forever, it just takes a long time to load. Leave it for a few minutes and it should load.
Meanwhile, if the module is working now you'll probably want to play with the amplification a bit, test the output with the test playback and fingers crossed it'll start recognising things then.

If it still doesn't load after like 5 minutes (there's also a progress bar that should show progress) after restarting the app, what region are you in? I've previously tested the database parsing with en_GB and en_US and it was working fine but maybe it's broken for another one

On miui 12.5 I think my Problem is that I can't grant the App access to the microphone.

Tap the microphone prompt in Ambient Music, you have to grant it manually via the app info (not sure why Google didn't just implement a prompt like everyone else does). I have also found that sometimes when you've just granted it access it doesn't immediately respond to test recognition, if you find it still sits loading after that then kill Ambient Music via the recents, reopen it via Ambient Music Mod, return to Ambient Music Mod and try running the recognition again.

[APP] Auto Memory Manager 1.7.1.1

Hi guys,
Here's a plug for the app that I'm working on.
**ROOT REQUIRED** Auto Memory Manager is a app that allows users to tweak the out of memory threshold settings. Doing so allows users to define when they want the system to start shutting down apps in conserve memory for other other uses.
Features:
- Sliders for ease of settings.
- 3 presets and ability to create custom settings easily
- Advance mode where you can enter exact values for each threshold
- View apps group by OOM grouping, app lifecycle
- Show services running
- Show details of apps and service running e.g number of clients attached to services, app lifecycle, OOM priority
- Kill services, change OOM priority.
- Comprehensive help
- Remember settings after reboot
- Lots of support on the Madsquirrelapps blog.
- Simple way of providing error reports to developer (hopefully you won't have to use this)
I actively support this so feel free to send me an email if you have a suggestion/complaint and I'll get back to you within the day if not immediately (depends if I'm awake or not).
QR code for AMM is in my signature so please go and give it a try and let me know what you think. thanks.
Version 1.7.1.1
- Couple of bug fixes
- Update Chinese translation provided by http://goapk.com . Almost all text in the app has been translated.
Version 1.7
- Added Services page. This shows all running services in their OOM groupings.
- Reworked Help. This should make the flow of the help pages much better. No need to go back from page 9 to 1 just to get back to the home screen. Just a press of the back button will do now.
- Root checking. Added this to check if the phone has root access. This saves people the confusion.
- Root guide. In the event that a downloader’s phone doesn’t have root access I’ve also provided a link to a page that I’ve made that is a compilation of rooting guides from the xda-developer and Modaco forum. Thanks for those guys for providing a valuable service for the Android community.
- Service is shut down once the settings are applied. Bad implementation on my part to keep the service running when it is no longer needed.
Miscellaneous bug fixes.
Will test and get back to you. Thanks

thanks. feedback is always appreciated.
Just installed, gave root permissons, set to "Mild" and had a FC on an incoming phone call. Set back to default and all is well again. I use TaskManager Full to kill what I don't need running. So I actually don't have a ton of things running in the background and Auto MM shouldn't of killed anything? TaskManager Full reports that I have 278 M available. Your thoughts?

Hmm...coincidence? No idea why the phone would crash AMM. And if it did it doesn't really matter. once you applied the settings then the job is done. You can kill AMM after that.

btw...if it did FC then on the next start you should see an email with the error log. if you could send that to me I would have a better idea of what's happening.
Never got an email. I just used TaskManager to kill AMM and started it back up again. Will watch to see if I get it. Just restarted my phone as well to ensure it was killed.

Thanks for the feedback. We will be adding a setting to show soft buttons on the webpage under the screen picture for devices that don't have soft keys enabled by default. We have this on our list and will add this for sure.
In the mean time as a workaround you can try some apps that can enable soft buttons on your device. We understand that's inconvenient to say the least but still.
Thanks,

You may workaround it with SoftKey Enabler or similar apps to show soft keys while you are connected. This will be needed until we add the setting for soft keys. We will be working on this with high priority.

Please add support for more devises. or older versions of android. :good:
not working
Not working on nexus 5 running lolliop.it says "Weak control failed".
not working on oneplus one downloaded the free app that's ok up and running, followed the instructions get to the stage to connect to P.C and it never accepts the pin generated and never goes further...superuser allowed so no probs there
Sadly does not work, i just can't access the adress it gives me, it keeps on loading and then says "Connection has timed out" yes I'm connected to the Internet on both my device and PC, what am I doing wrong??
Edit: I realised that I needed to create a WIFI Hotspot on my PC and then connect to it with my device, but now the problem is after entering the PIN given by the app nothing happens, it just freezes just like that, i click on "connect" several times, nothing happens
Edit 2: Finally managed to get it working, it seems like only Goggle Chrome Broweser works with it. What i can say is, ther's great potential, on my Galaxy Note 10.1 running Kitkat 4.4.2, it lags terribly, actually it causes my device to lag also, maybe coz I'm still running the free version, other than that, great app I like it, since it's still in beta it promises to only get better
I don't suggest downloading the free version to anyone. It's very annoying when the message pops up to buy the full version. there is only one button to press, and that is buy, back key won't do anything, at this point to stop the app the only way is to force close it. And this happens too frequently
Very nice!
It's working very nicely on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505)
Thank you!

Just saw this on reddit. This is great news. Atleast we know we are getting it instead of feeling like the forgotten bastard child lol
any screenshots? really do not like the g5's new UI, hoping the v10 stays looking like it does.

Yes, both from the phone update itself, and LG Bridge.
no update yet
turkey V10s are also getting the update already!
I hope this is coming to the US! Sitting here with my boring not updated tmobile version here! (of course I'm not really complaining since we're bootloader unlocked and rootable!)
Sent from my pretty nifty brand new LG V10
Great news! Can't wait~
Hi, I updated to MM yesterday and phone works a little bit faster, more smooth on menu or setting changes.
I dont see any UI or UX changes.
Fingerprint sensor was very laggy and hard time to read and I rescanned my fingers to get it work.
Camera software is same (overall taking good pics)
Cannot say anything about battery just updated the device
Process takes long time and first I got error via LG Bridge ( For Mac ) and then tried OTA, after 3 hours I was able to connect to OTA update center.(Dont give up trying)
Knock Code is using 6 touches at least instead of 4, this really bothered me.
If I see more then I'll keep you informed guys.

Can anyone check if the update allows you to unlock previously unlockable bootloaders now?
To do so, enable developers options and enable OEM unlock (may wipe your data)

With DM verity being enabled in 6.x.x you might (don't quote me on this) loose root if you update. Up until someone makes a rooted system.

• Safety: End-to-end encryption when you transfer files.
• Privacy policy: We don't collect any data from you when you use the application.
There is a "Go" version for Android and Windows.
Get the Android version from XDA labs
Since xda-labs are down at the moment you can download the "Go" version from the site: https://easyjoin.net/android_free.html
Differences between Android versions "Go" and "Essential"/"Pro".
Less permissions. You can do less so you give less permissions.
When you close the app any background activity is also closed.
Has been removed broadcast listeners that could bring the app alive.
Auto accepting files is the default behavior.
Files are automatically saved in the corresponding system media folder based on their type.
If you need more functionalities try the "Essential" and "Pro" versions. XDA thread.
Unfortunately it crashes when I try to send something on my phone (HTC 10 Android 8). Furthermore it seems like the easyjoin app doesn't recognize my PC.

You give me no info about the issues. It is crash the android or the windows version? Do you get any error that you can send me? Do you have enabled the Windows app to pass through your firewall?
I have a problem with the app on my phone. After I select a file and push the arrow, all I get is a black screen and that's it until a window pops up, which states "easyjoin go doesn't respond". Now I can send you feedback with system logs. I hope this will help.
Access through firewall is enabled.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou! This app totally fills my needs for a reliable and simple OTA file transfer. One thing though, and forgive me if this is covered by Essential or Pro: could it be possible to change the directories (i.e. from internal to external sdcard) for the received files?

This is possible in the other two versions but even there currently you can't write in all folders on the sdcard, only on the app folder.
Since i want to keep this version as simple as possible i prefer to not add options that are available in the other versions.

Hi again!
Lately I'm having this weird problem where EasyJoin Go closes without warning while attempting to transfer any file or folder from Windows to my device. Also, when the transfer is successful, the files are partially transferred to my device (i.e. a folder with three files, only two transferred).
I recently changed my router, but everything else (windows and device side) seem to work perfect. Is there something I should take a look at?
Cheers,

Hi. Please read the FAQ and especially this: https://easyjoin.net/faq.html?15.
Are you using the latest version of the Android app? In this version a notification is created during sending/receiving a file that should prevent Android to suspend the app.

Yes, updated both (W10 + Play Store) yesterday after seeing your update available. Sadly it's still a no go. Yes, I did check the FAQ beforehand.
What I find strange is that it feels like a trial and error, and when it works, it only transfers partially as I mentioned in my previous post
Thanks for your help though, I appreciate it.
Nice. Works fine in my device...............
Now it seems to work perfectly. I bought the Thank you! gift on Google Play. Thanks again, and merry xmas!

How To Guide Just tweak it [ZFlip3] - debloat, root, plugins, battery...

ZFlip3 stock setup
model used: Z Flip 3 SM-F711B, Android 11, October 2021 firmware, Europe (EUX), then Android 12, Februaru 2022.
adding an article in a flagship marathon ..->V30->Note9->6T->Mi9->S10->7T->Tab S6->Tab S4->8Pro->Note20Ultra,->Tab A7->Z Flip3. Returned first Z Flip as it was too crippled, especially when seeing USB2.0 speed. And again, the new generation is on USB2 (dated to year 2000). What a time to be alive. We can charge at whopping 15 watts!
So we be rooting stock firmware, no ROMs, no TWRPs, and keep encryption which is crucial. Samsung is bloated well so the debloat script deserved to be updated and should not throw errors in my region (tho errors don't matter as we mostly disable packages, except vendor group).
So the article includes usual information for the whole process of upgrad--i mean rooting the device. We want:
* better battery feat. instant 96Hz screen freq
* better privacy
* call recording
* disk encryption
* tweaks
Rooting
We want encryption. The era of TWRP encryption access is gone, but it's fine since we even have Magisk and EXposed and literally all extras we need is provided in Magisk/Xposed modules.
Long guides suck, let's make compressed steps again. The steps are standard as per topjohnwu guide so let's add easy links into the compact steps. The links come from here or official sources, so likely virus free (unlike here).
On yer new device in order to get root, lose warranty outside of EU, lose bit of useless Samsung functionality, wipe your data, and get tons of benefits :
[PC] grab your Android 11-12 firmware in Frija as you do the next step
[mobile] unlock OEM in dev settings (need to be online for big brother to register your activation)
[PC<->mobile] when turned off and nowadays rather plugged it to your Windows PC with drivers installed or Linux PC with no drivers needed, hold Vol+ & Vol- til you see download screen, long press Vol+
[PC<->mobile] after you slap AP*tar file unpacked from step 1 on yer phone, patch it in Magisk 22+
[PC<->mobile] back in download mode, in ODIN 3.14, slap patched AP into AP slot, BL to BL, CP to CP, CSC to CSC and flash
[mobile] hold Power & Vol- to exit download mode
[mobile] install and run Magisk online to finalize rooting and reboot again
[mobile] check Magisk status, enable USB debugging in dev settings like you always do, and continue the modulefest (below)
You can Magisk-hide few apps like Flow which moan about root. In case of update, we will perform similar steps with HOME_CSC added to CSC slot in step 5, while skipping step 2.
Modules
MagiskIn Magisk, we can get stuff from its UI but you can still click on some links FYI:
* Magisk - is the client, now without active repo and Hide
* Riru - Core, LSPosed or EdExposed -> brings XPosed to Android11. For either XPosed, you need the manager APK but that one is now included. LSPosed seems more stable, but S A D L Y it requires to preselect affected apps which is highly undesirable for many plugins like XPrivacy, XPosedEdge, 3C, etc.. anything working with all apps.. almost all top plugins
* Bluetooth Library Patcher -> helps us keep the bluetooth pairings
* (optional) Sui -> to run AppOpps as an alternative to XPrivacy as we're kicked out of it by LSPosed
* (optional) Move certificates -> to install certificate for AdGuard, and have a strong proxy mode while still using VPN
* (optional) F-Droid Privilleged Extension -> to make F-Droid updates easy, without interaction!
XPosedin one of the managers, we can get some plugins:
* Xposed Edge Pro -> a fantastic plugin which can do lot of popup menus, edge gestures, control hardware keys, run scripts on triggers.. unbelievable value.
* XPrivacy Lua -> must have. Disabling analytics, tracking, telephony, network, identification for all visible apps and all Google and Samsung apps with some exceptions.
* AppOps -> this is closed source alternative to XPrivacy, not bad actually. You need "Riru - Sui" Magisk extension first. Commercial. It can be slow when recovering permissions.
* (in future) Permission Manager X -> coming with above functionality soon. Let's see!
* Firefds kit -> main customization app for Samsungs. Enables the very important call recording, which is beautifully integrated into call history. Bye bye external apps.
* (optional) Xposed Dex -> some tweaks, not using it just FYI fahgedaboutit!
* (optional) afWall -> not needed in Oneplus because there's a firewall, but Samsung doesn't have one. Alternatively you can use Adguard for this task and avoid some issues and too much duplicit apps in memory. This extension should be disabled, just present.
* (optional) Exi for Swiftkey -> you can make Swiftkey great again, GBoard is still the best, Samsung keyboard is very good, but too tall and leaves gap in fullscreen mode
AppsRoot apps you can get from the web, Google Play or F-Droid:
* 3C toolbox -> too helpful not to pay for the biggest package. It is a backup solution too. It's mostly commercial and abs(worth) money.
* or TitaniumBackup -> a must since Android was born, however died infamously. Commercial.
* or OAndBackupX -> FYI new open source backup solution, not reliable
* Adaway -> a must but with AdGuard? not so.. but i use both
* or AdGuard -> this is way more superior adblocker and firewall. Can filter more and can amend requests.. that's a game changer. You can have a efficient proxy when rooted thanks to "Move certificates" Magisk extension. Commercial, licences can be aquired very cheaply. With its paid VPN it can solve the problem of who's first "local VPN or VPN", but this is not needed in our root setup.
* Warden -> rips the guts of apps and removes tracking and logging
* YouTube Vanced -> YouTube without ads and sponsor blocks.. now you need manager APK to install it, might not alwasys work. And Google will be happy to overwrite it
* (optional) MiXplorer -> best file manager, replaces spyware ES File explorer you had before. Edits root files comfortably even when other editors don't. It's a great text editor or media player too! Commercial and worth it.
* (optional) FolderSync -> best sync tool. Commercial but works well as a free version.
* (optional) Root Essentials -> a multitool, have a look, it's as useful as 3C
* F-Droid -> open source apps. A must.
Debloating
What the script does:
* choose 8 categories of app removal, in the beginning of the file (bixby, game, accounts, basic, tricky, vendors, google)
for each say 0=skip 1=remove 2=revert back
* use more switch to disable some questionable/helpful stuff
* disable up to 100 apps with possibility to revert back
* remove usage access for google (do manually)
* remove device admin backdoor "Find My Mobile", you won't recover stolen device this way lol, it doesn't work with Secure Startup! it's useful for Govt.
* revert DNS from Google if it's added at boot (minor, AdGuard can also change it btw)
* switch display frequency to 48 / 60 / 96 / 120Hz to improve battery life - you can try [x] Show freq in Dev options
Tested ok on October Android 11 firmware. Error messages will be there for non existing components, and it's ok. It's just a script.
Samsung has too much privacy abusing bloatware installed, as part of nowadays fashion (ideally let's extract phone number and location from users to run file manager). I'd like to disable any Samsung account/cloud nonsense. Most functionality still works. You still can say cheese to camera and use OneUI productivity features. Samsung apps can be updated from their settings even if Galaxy Store was forcing you login.
I've cooked the list based on knowledge of each process, its current presence in the firmware, and what would fit the common usage. Also checked against 2 more knowledge bases. I kill Bixby but keep Bixby Vision, so you can still use camera to extract text. You can edit the script anyway.
Download: (file attached)
Installation (omg! it's not an app!):
- run in su terminal once or add to any startup script (3C\Device mgr\Scheduler can assign scripts from (it needs to be /data now, and chmod +x it), or to magisk
Battery
Battery saving:
- the key is to disable background network activity:
enable Data Saver and make exceptions for individual apps (there's "Allow data usage with Data Saver" and also nice "Allow background activity" & "Optimize battery usage" choices)
enforce it with 3C (Device Mgr\Profiler) or Adguard (App Management), vendor love to make exception for adware!
disable bluetooth, wifi, and nearby scanning
choose your Power Saving mode, wakelocks like {AOD, fp icon, dt2wake, raise2wake} etc based on yer preference
reduce display frequency
- nearby scanning should be off, what a useless function of finding unknown devices - once you pair the known, what's the sense? or you keep connection 10 new bt devices each week? just a drain and endless beacon
- didn't test {LSpeed, Naptime, Servicely, FDE, LKT, Universal GMS Doze, Sysconfig patcher} here. Not yet having idea about battery, but previously this article helped to improve battery life.
Other
- there's 2 ugly boot warnings now, and a delay.. the boot screen could probably be changed
- for call recording make sure XPosed manager whitelists call components
- no boot keys needed like on S10 generation
- not using multidisabler as i'm on stock and i do want encryption on every device ever
- don't be afraid to use another device (mobile) as USB drive.. this way you can restore your apps directly without copying it first! Slow on ZFlip because of pathetic USB2 - and there's no way out (USB flash drive, WiFi.. all slow). Also Smart Switch can be used from non-Samsung phones, but it is as weak as Google backup ever was - no data restore
BATTERY TEST
in a setup marathon, so far just 6hours SOT Well hopefully this will expand to 6hr but with longer standby. For reference, a marathon with Mi9 with the same battery capacity gave almost 10hours.
Normal usage on Wifi: 1day with 2.5h SOT, better than old Samsungs (S10-). That is not horrible. But, 1.5day standby capacity (like OnePlus, S21, Note20) is the best as it covers 2 big risks:
- you charge overnight but one day you misplace the phone on Qi charger -> 1min before alarm, phone turns off (24hr since previous morning), you miss the meeting, and get fired subsequently, and become an universal income believer
- you party overnight, move a lot while being on battery-burning 5G -> 1min before you need to call the cab, phone turns off, you get lost in the city alone, get robbed etc
Light usage - 3rd picture: so i've tried minimal use (realistic for me), some LTE, hours of background youtube listening via wireless headphones, permanent connection to PC (KDE Connect), and watches, nonstop AOD, VPN, wakelocks. This time couldn't discharge it. 24hr - still above 50%! So standby potential is massive. Screen-on time is the issue, but as battery is settling down, perhaps it will improve too.
Standby - 4th picture, here i measured the standby potentional as above, which is more than 2 days. So you sacrifice 8hours for each hour with screen on.
[MAX SOT] 6hours SOT -> almost no standby left
[MEDIUM SOT] 3hours SOT -> up to 24hr standby 1.5day from 85%
[MIN SOT] 1hour SOT -> up to 48h standby
[ZERO SOT] 0hour SOT -> up to 2.5d standby
Later the battery improved in a way, that despite setting to 85%, battery performance is the same better (+70% gain).
REVIEW
Just few thoughts. I kept the phone despite USB2 and it really slowed down everything massively. What a shame. I see charging is really super slow. Ultrafast fingerprint compared to optical/ultrasonic sensors. Crease kind of visible. Display very readable as usual from Samsung, bacbleeding at Gray 10% brightness uniform but the screen pulsates! I know swipes from edges work but i switched to buttons after years, i simply kept making mistakes all the time and had accidental touches (which can't happen here due to the frame). Signal strong. Battery as above. Body is light and i wish it was even lighter. Few apps support pocket mode. Display is protected by folding.
I bashed OnePlus for being actually expensive by investing almost zero to software. And this time i collected features of Samsung that are unique to it, or better cooked. The difference vs vanilla OS like ColorOS or Sony is insane:
- phone: native call recording
- phone: popup instead of full screen, also during the call
- phone: lot of gestures incl. flip open
- camera: say cheese to make a picture
- camera: automatic recommendations
- camera: automatic document scanner
- camera: automatic bixby recognition
- camera: integrated QR code scanner
- camera: HEVC / HDR tho this is becoming standard i guess
- camera: track people, change angle with more people
- camera: preview on both sides of the phone
- camera: shooting advices, Single Take
- camera: auto record mini motion picture
- camera: strong modes incl. very rich AR
- calendar: strong app with mapps, weather
- clock: strong alarm with repetition, timezones with weather
- music, video: pretty good apps that still exist
- flow: mirror activity to PC incl. screen remote broadcast (such tool was always hard to get)
- edge: legendary swipe menu with tons of helpful tools
- display: always readable compared to other brands
- display: edge effects and notification repetition
- settings: scroll with fingerprint reader and rich number of gestures
- settings: very strong accessibility options incl. 2 magnifiers (an issue if you have swipe navigation which makes the icon invisible), sound detection, live caption, live transcribe, door opening detection
- audio: dolby sound and audio correction to persons age
- audio: split speakers, split bluetooth
- navigation menu: tons of icons, incl. Device to finally see the headphone battery status and Media fantastic to integrate Home Assitant, Mi Home, cameras etc
- display: AOD phenomenal, incl. operable widgets (also on back screen)
- display: rotating wallpapers from the internet
- security: lockdown, auto factory reset, lock network, secure wifi etc
- productivity: roaming clock in clock, AOD, calendar
- notifications: several styles of alert choices incl auto popup, and text highlighting
- display: easy to split apps to screen or to a popup, also pick from Edge menu
- security: fingerprint tester, i didn't see this on other phones
- apps: Kid mode, and Pin window mode to protect desktop from kids, game launcher, measure distance or height app, health app
- productivity: continue app on other devices, quick share, helpful bixby routines, easy one handed mode, great audio and screen recorder, dual messenger, secure folder, blur video in video calls, focus mode, sleep mode
- productivity: backup to cloud but for those who avoid it there's USB backup (seen it on LG only)
- productivity: a bit from Note - pin part of window, make animation, select rectangle/oval and extract text (very very useful)
Having several nonSamsung recently I must strongly praise Samsung for the software.

There will be an upgrade to Android 12 soon. Should I wait after the upgrade to install tweaks, or do I do it now? I just need call recording and support for multiple user accounts.

i will wait couple of months to see if all components work well (Magisk, Xposed, Firefds [R] to enable call recording) and people don't report bad battery or something. Maybe the second update of Android 12 is what i'm targeting. So i'd tweak now.

the guide is the same. It all works as before. I've added a small script update, it's still cleaning all junk and sets 96Hz by default as it works nice. Tested on Android 12, nothing new there, perhaps the only news is Magisk is changing a bit.
Nearby Scanning is basically mesh network for those who don't know. Basically your phone can send data (location or whatever) to another phone to track your position because they have their data and location turned on. It's a work around for people who deny permissions or have their location and/or data turned off. Turn it off whenever possible, also WIFI Scanning which is basically the same thing but using routers for location tracking.
reinstall your bloat manually made me lol really hard! That's what I needed right now. Thank you

and Samsung Daily or Samsung Free also uses it. This stuff is changing too often.
Would you recommend rooting the phone about now? Or wait for custom roms to start appearing? I recently got the SM-F711B (Indonesia).
