Hello,
I have a Redmi Note 5 with TWRP and AOSP Extended, the charging circuits of which have died, so the phone cannot be charged or even take power from a charger, otherwise entirely functional. I now have my "last charge", the phone is charged to 100% and turned off, but as soon as the battery reaches 0% it is dead, probably forever, as it is not possible to charge it.
Now, I would like to somehow make a backup of the entire phone, in case there is some data that I might find out I need in the future. Is it possible to create a backup that I will be able to fully access after the phone dies? Is it possible to make such an image of the phone, that I could import it into a virtual machine and run on my computer?

Using TWRP file manager you can backup your pictures, video, documents etc. To your SD card,, otg or pc. But you can't backup you /data. Data and internal storage are different. Data doesn't include pictures or videos. It just includes your apps and apps data. To backup this /data you have to use migrate or titanium backup. A /data backup of a perticular device from TWRP, might not boot on another device. So use migrate. You can select the apps you want to backup and you can put that in your SD card or drive. That apps can easily be flashed on other phones. TWRP only backs up /data NOT internal storage
Android emulators run on x86/x86-64 CPU based machines whereas Android OS - all it installed apps included - runs on 32-bit/64-bit ARM-CPU based devices. Hence it doesn't make any sense trying to clone an existing Android device in order to run this clone in an Android emulator. It simply doesn't work.

You are wrong. The /data partition - also called /userdata - is located on device's internal storage memory. To keep you updated: The /data partition has subfolder /data/media where user's data like pictures, musics, videos, etc.pp are stored.
The /data partition what also holds all apps and their data ( obb excluded ) installed by user in subfolder /data/apps always - using the right tool - can completely get backed up.

Thank you everyone for clarifying, I ended up just making a backup of the internal storage manually and then all the other partitions using TWRP backup.

Hey guys i got a question. I did a backup via twrp and moved it to a USB flash drive then did a factory reset now I'm trying to fnd my photos to restore them via nandroid manager but i cant find them. Can anyone tell me the path where they were backed up?
FYI im pretty sure the photos are weithin the backup because it has a size of about 5gb.

The 'backup' is for the system. Twrp does not backup folders per se. All my pics are on my 128gb card and no matter what I flash or restore, there they are. Are you saying they were on the phone and you managed to delete them, if so, that's what a restore should fix. I say should because sometimes restores don't work the way you might expect them too.
Yeah but I want to restore just the photos is there a way to extract them out of the backup?

TWRP backups and recovery backups in general only save /system, /cache, /dalvik-cache and /data, but the data directory has stored only app data, settings etc. but no media (that's in the /media or /sdcard directory). If you did a factory reset usually the internal sdcard won't be cleared. If it somehow happened your pictures are lost, if you didn't enable Google's automatic photo backup.

Today i wanted to install Sultanxda CM13, so I carefully wiped only data, system, cache, dalvik cache & ART in Multirom-TWRP 3.0.0 after taking backups in Titanium Backup & nandroid backups. Then I went to wipe>advanced wipe>ticked system>fs options>change fs>selected f2fs & swiped . Same I did for data & cache (formatted only /data, /system & /cache). After that, when I when I went to install zip, MY INTERNAL STORAGE WAS EMPTY! (Also, 54GB space remaining in internal storage) :crying::crying::crying::crying:: OH DAMN S**T . I am very very sure I didnt wipe or format Internal Storage. And now my whole internal storage is gone (IT HAD VERY VERY IMPORTANT VIDEOS, PHOTOS & DOCUMENTS).
SO PLEASE HELP ME IN RECOVERING THE FILES. And curse you TWRP 3.0.0!

Installing OS isnt a problem or me, but if I install OS, some files would be written on data partition, and that would decrease the chances of file recovery. So any way to access root & adb without OS? @DaxNagtegaal and other people can you please help?
EDIT 2: I tried to use root in adb (in TWRP), but it doesnt work. So I installed COS12.1 YOG7DAS2K1-signed flashable zip & SUperSU 2.65 as a last resort in TWRP, booted it, skipped any data restore (to do it later), installed busybox and now I am trying the long-method given here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705 (Now I am making .raw file of the internal storage block through adb). (It seems its gonna take about 8 hours to completely make the vhd file).
Buy an otg cable download a rom on your pc,transfer it to your pc and voila else you can also buy a usb which can be plug directly in your mobile.i think you will be able to recover some file because rom won't take over 54gb.

I don't think you will be able to recover all the files but atleast some will be recoverable as rom won't take over all space,how many files were there?which files were valuable to you? it its photos?as i once lost my pictures since then im using google photos!
Yup, many pics, some documents, some text files (in which I save all my passwords, usernames, etc) & videos (also game data ).
ah ok i feel you mate,now when you are up and running just use google photos for pictures and googledrive or dropbox for your important files,atleast you know you will be safe if ever you encounter any issue.
Try " delete " like recovery app .once i tried and recover nearly 500 photos but i hadn't try to recover files .
If you change data to f2fs this will wipe your internal storage. Just do a backup next time and inform you more.
I know I did an internal storage backup with TWRP. I have extracted the system and data TWRP files and see all the apps, system, etc.. but am not seeing the Internal Storage. Can someone please point me to where in the directory structure the internal is? (there is no storage folder or mnt)

@SyCoREAPER I'm not sure you can backup internal storage with TWRP. If memory serves me right you can back up System, Cache, Data, Boot and EFS. However, having just woke up maybe I'm not reading your provided information right or possibly I'm completely wrong. When I back up internal storage I use my laptop or PC OS file manager.

You know you are right. I remembered seeing it in Wipe, not in Backup. Well that sucks turds. Google Photos backup turned on from now on. At least I have a partial outdated backup but all my TSO (Trans Syberian Orchestra) shots are gone. Had great seats too

Note: I use the Backup Tool to be able to back up directly to the PC because I do not have enough memory card to fit the DATA folder.
2. With the complete backup, I read in some topics in the forum, that do not go type information, photos, downloads, etc. Is this right? If so, why in full backup is this information missing?

You can use twrp to pc and copy your internal storage off. Just drag and drop the folders you want from internal to your pc. No need to do a back up of it

Are you telling me that when I connect the phone to the PC via TWRP and all the folders appear, if I copy them, is it the same as doing a full backup by TWRP?
Because if so, what caught my attention is that, folders total 700 mb and backup 6 gigs.
No what he's saying is that TWRP only backs up the system content. So your ROM, apps, app settings, customisation etc is all saved in the TWRP backup.
But it doesn't save "loose" user files, so things like photos, downloads, etc saved to your SD or internal storage aren't included in the TWRP backup.
So for a complete backup, you want a TWRP backup + copy the photos, downloads, etc folders via PC onto your desktop.
Copying the folders is NOT going to be equivalent to a TWP backup, as you don't see any system/firmware files in PC.

Hi i recently made a backup with wondershare mobile trans and it created a .BAK file of 30gb and it is corrupted i don't know why, I can't read videos and photos (if you know any way to access the data in it even if it is corrupted please tell me), i tried extracting it with winrar but it only extracts 6gb of some photos , the rest is corrupted it can't finish extraction.
I flashed a new rom and orange fox recovery , i have root access , i installed disk digger with full root access but it can't find any photo (not a single one) in my internal storage , is there any way to recover my photos from internal storage ?

I formatted internal storage before flashing the new rom
Steps to recover your deleted data from your rooted Android device-
1. Connect Your Android device.
2. Launch Android Data Recovery software on computer and choose 'Data Recovery'
3. Choose file types to Scan
4. Preview and restore lost data from Android phone.
Stop using your phone to prevent new files from overwriting lost data. Then try to use data recovery software to detect the photos from internal storage. If it can be detected, recovery is simple.

I tend to think it's a lost cause especially if the drive is zeroed out when you flashed.
Don't know but...
This wouldn't surprise me as it's a wise precaution to ensure a clean flash/load.
Even if not overwritten the file structure is lost as that was certainly overwritten when you flashed it. All you will find at best is completely random disjointed files.
The images will have no metadata ie time stamp etc. If you have hundreds, thousands of random images just forgetting about them becomes the less frustrating option many times. There's no way to index them except by memory, one at a time.
Been there, done that
