Hi

The phone is encrypted using pin code, i flashed twrp while enabled and disabled , yet it didt ask for the pin. i did also tried to flash orangefox R11.0_2 but also with no luck.
any help would greatly be appreciated

Hi I think this is wrong section but sometimes this happens to me and I have to format data to get the folders to appear. Maybe be another user can help better

Well, this explains why I had a real bad luck after upgrading to MIUI 12:
How to decrypt /sdcard from ADB?
Long story short, I screwed up, and now I have an encrypted storage (with my files that I want back) but TWRP and the OS thinks it is not. It goes like this: The Magisk v22.0 update screwed up my phone, which stuck in a bootloop. After...

As far I know, xiaomi silently switched from FDE to FBE, which means different kind of encryption, thus your storage were encrypted twice. Sadly, I'm still looking for a way to decrypt, as my internal storage has some precious photos I want to save.
If you find something, please reply here as well.
Also, I have the same post, but with more update and more info here:

[Q] Mounting issues...

Ok, I've spent about 8 hours on this and read a million forum topics, flashed everything upside down, five ways to sunday and now and I'm giving up:
I have adb, fastboot usb, unlock code, TWRP, HTC sync all working (as far as I can tell)
I successfully loaded AOKP latest build onto an external SD card, installed it with TWRP and it will get to the loading animation, where it loads permanently and will not complete.
My assumption is that it is trying to mount the sdcard and data folders and cannot, I believe this because in TWRP, I get error messages saying "E:/ unable to mount /data" and the same for /sdcard.
I successfully updated TWRP with a recovery image to 2.3.3.0, which did not seem to help, but it is functioning and I can get to it reliably.
at teamw.in/project/twrp2/66
I tried chmod 755 for the data and sdcard folders, but they don't mount so it appears that is not taking hold.
I have wiped and erased pretty much everything (probably too much, in frustration).
So now I can have a bootloader, TWRP, or a spinning unicorn logo, but my phone won't do anything else.
I'm stuck. Can anyone figure out why I am hanging at the loader or what I'm doing wrong?
I appreciate the help in advance

Hi,
What does it say at the top of the page?
According to the rest of it,there should be no reason for the ROM failure.
I am not very familiar with TWRP.
Would you be willing to install 4EXT recovery ,and trying again?

It says "revolutionary" at the top of the bootloader
ok, I did the 4EXT thing, copied, wrote over the image, flash rebooted and the phone cycled, and up pops my spinning unicorn gears as before. Still spinning....and spinning....I waited 5 minutes.
Is there some way to check into the mount permissions or something? Could I have messed that up and that is why it won't finish loading? This whole unable to mount /data thing?
More ideas?

Hi,
Sorry,it is not clear.
Did 4EXT install?
Or does the spinning occur when you try to load a ROM?
Next thing I would suggest is to back up your sd card, format it to FAT32,and replace all your stuff.
Do not worry about the Android files. They will be installed when you load the card.
Format all partitions (except sd card)
Download a ROM,place it on the root of your sd card, check the md5 checksum, then, run it.
Yes 4EXT installed.
It said "error could not mount sdcard" but booted anyway
In 4EXT it still won't mount /data or /sdcard I do see that the SDcard is formatted as FAT 32
I'm a little confused, you said to format sdcard to fat32, but your next line says to format all partitions except sdcard?
When youi say you did the whole 4EXT thing, do you mean you installed AOKP using 4EXT Recovery?
If you can boo tinto 4EXT right now you will find a mounts menu that will allow you to mount and unmount just about everything.
You MAY see that the internal storage and SD card are already mounted. Unmount them and remount them. If that doesn't work unmount them, reboot into recovery, then remount them. 4EXT is pretty powerful and handles mounting pretty well.
I don't believe you deleted too much off the phone. I simply don't believe it. It's posisble to do that, but you wouldn't have access to the recovery module. If you can boot to 4EXT I am certain this is fixable.

Because you want to format everything and there is no option to format everything. You have to do everything internally and then do the SD card separately. It's to prevent you from accidentally screwing yourself up.
But actually before you format the internal memory, take the SD card out and try to boot. See what happens. It's possible that your SD card has an error that is causing the boot loop. Take it out and see if you boot all the way to the android home screen. If so, your ROM is installed. Just format the SD card after that and it should work.
Ok, booting into 4EXT and going to the mounts menu, when I hit "mount /sdcard" or "mount /data" it gives me an "error mounting..." message. I can mount and unmount system and cache though. I think that's the issue...any way to make those mountable again?
I will format everything and see if that helps...
Nope, it won't allow me to format my sdcard, since it is not mountable. Other partitions formatted with the exception of /sdcard/.android-secure since sdcard will not mount. I don't have an external sdcard in at the moment...should I put one in to do all this? I assumed /sdcard is the internal memory, no?
Toggle usb storage also gives me an error message " E: unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory) Unable to connect to your (internal?) sdcard. If that helps understand the situation at all
Thanks for the glimmer of hope with "I am certain this is fixable"

Hi,
Yes.
These are 2 separate instructions.
Format all partitions (except sd card) is something you will find in 4EXT.
It should be used to clean your phone before a fresh install.
Format to FAT 32 is something I suggested you do to your sd card,in case it has some error or other, which may be preventing you from flashing a ROM.
In any case, try the mount/unmount thing that Skipjacks suggested first

Ok, as before, I could not format sdcard due to being unmountable. /data is now mountable though, that's progress!
It seems the internal sdcard being unmountable is the crux of the problem. Cannot format or repartition or mount internal sdcard.

Hi,
2 choices:
1.Use a card reader
2.Use another card
I would suggest number 1
It can then be formatted in your PC (better than on the phone)
And it is an extremely useful tool.(quicker data transfer)

Hi,
OK.
I got the wrong end of the stick.
Why are you using internal?
To load a ROM,place it on the root of your external sd card.
When you choose/select ROM to flash in recovery, that is where the phone looks.
Not in the internal.

Ok, well I did not want to do the RUU if I could avoid it.
I think somehow, magically, you guys have helped me fix it. I took your suggestion of not trying to load a ROM onto the internal memory and just leaving it on external micro SD and leaving the external in while I run. (too scared to take it out after 24 hours of tinkering) But it is running now! Thank goodness.
Some combo of wiping and formatting with 4EXT in addition to my change in installation method (although I tried this same method yesterday to no avail) has solved the problem.
Thanks to the both of you! Real heartfelt thanks as well as forum button thanking.

[Q] What does Mounting System, Data and Cache mean?

I am a newbie into this rooting and upgrading stuffs on my android phone. Iv rooted, installed custom ROMs etc etc and tinkered with my phone a lot of times. I am also a curious learner. could anyone please tell me what exactly mounting storage, mounting data or mounting cache mean. Iv mounted and unmounted them alot of times going by the guidelines provided for the specific installations. Would be nice if i actually know why i am doing it Also Kindly let me on what actions can be performed or not performed when.they are mounted/ unmounted thank you.

if you want to install a custom rom, sometimes a procedure for mounting tell you, it's like you open a permission to install that rom to your device

Mounting is the point where you can edit the files in the folder that you mount, it similar to that of mounting drives.
Similarly there are mounting such as when you use root explorers you can mount them as read/write or read only.
A Linux user can explain you in the best way, coz they usually mount their partitions as drives to work on them.

No need of mounting everytime you flash.
Mostly the zip files itself contains scripts to mount your partition, they do the job theirself.
In rare cases the developer of the flashable zip file would recommend you to mount the partitions required, in those cases only you need to mount through CWM

[Q] Nexus S can't see sdcard

Hi All,
I've just updated my Nexus S i9023 to the latest stable Cyanogen Mod (10.1.3) and am now having problems seeing the internal sdcard. I've tried flashing 10.2 RC1 as well as mounting it via recovery mode but everything I do fails to get it to mount.
Would any body have suggestions on how to troubleshoot this (best place to look for logs to find errors) or have come across this before and know how to resolve it?

No, It doesn't see it in recovery either. If I go to Mounts and Storage section and do a "Mount /sdcard" it just give a "Error mounting /sdcard!" warning
Same if I try to format /sdcard. I just get
Code:
Formatting /sdcard....
Error mounting /sdcard!
Skipping format...
Done
A couple of other pieces of the puzzle
The phone was encrypted before upgrade (and since reencrypted)
When I go to settings -> storage, I see what looks like the contents of the storage flashing up before disappearing
HI there.
I used to have same problem all day and I found a solution which works for me.
Under flashboot I put older version of recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo. Only with this one it allows me to see actually usb mount storage.
I still can't mount the storage card for flash, but I can see it in my laptop. So I do full format in fat32. (It takes about an hour).
After that everything was fine.
Hope this works for you too.

Desire S / frozen at boot + problem writing to sdcard from twrp

hello,
My phone (HTC Desire S S510e) is frozen on boot screen, after trying to install a new ROM. For some reasons, my backup made with TWRP cannot be restored.
After different tries for resintalling/restoring, my status is the following:
- no OS installed / no OS booting : phone stuck at boot on HTC logo
- phone is S ON, HBOOT Unlocked, v2.00.0002
- TWRP 2.6.3.0 installed
- external sd card wiped many times using TWRP (I went many times between TWRP 2.6.3.0 <=> 2.6.3.1 trying, wiping options not being exactly the same).
I am now trying to get back to a working OS using CM 12.1 (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-desire-s/development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-nightlies-t3071051). I have put the the zip file on the external microSD card (ext4, no journal, formatted from a linux box).
Installing the ROM zip from TWRP, I get the the following failure messages:
e:Unable to mound '/sdcard'
e:Unable to recreate and-sec folder
[...]
could not detect filesystem for /dev/block/platform/msm_[...]
[...]
Screenshot : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/102556377/20161105_155908.jpg
Is there a problem with my external microSD card ? any other suggestions ?
thanks
Tom
Maybe you haven't setup SagaOpt. I had similar problems on my Desire S "SAGA" when I flashed TWRP for SagaOpt.
I flashed TWRP for SAGA and now TWRP seems to be behaving itself.

hi and thanks for answering,
from your post, my understanding is : there are two separate versions of TWRP , one is for "saga", one for "sagaopt" (I didn't know that, and will try both).
Since my initial post, I had the phone work "a little better": I managed to have a CM13 booting on the phone. I think the way I managed to install without the previous error messages was by formatting my external sdcard using fat32. I don't understand why it made things go better.
Now I'm stuck on "Encryption unsuccessful" message (like in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447303).
By reading a few others posts, seems like the problem is related to internal memory card and/or external microSD card partition type. Still very unclear to me about what to do next. Any suggestion welcome !
thanks

Here's a short explanation that I got about Saga and SagaOpt.
Here's the latest TWRP for Saga 2.8.7.0 and here's TWRP for SagaOpt 2.8.7.1.
That's all I know at the moment, I'm new to HTC.
Mmm... this /data versus /system path may be relevant. in solving my problem.
I will dig more into this and come back with news in this thread.
thanks again
Just to let you now the problem is now solved :
- using TWRP 2.8.7.1 for "sagaopt" + CM 12.1 for "sagaopt".
- by changing my external microSD card. The first one got sort of corrupted (though working fine under Windows with fat32, maybe it's only a partitionning issue / partition table issue more than a real physical corruption)
- by launching wipe => format all in TWRP before installing CM
thanks for helping

So, how's CM13 working for you? I tried CM12.1 and it was barely usable due to the slowness (not trying to offend devs, just making an observation).

[SOLVED] TWRP can't mount internal storage - the problem is coming back...

I wanted to update my rooted Android Nougat to Oreo and also go from SuperSU to Magisk. During that process I discovered that TWRP recovery couldn't mount my internal storage.
I quickly saw on a lot of sites that it's a well-known issue, and I solved it by converting from ext4 to ext2 and back again. Now my phone is running perfect. All apps are installed, data and settings are restored with Titanium and root with Magisk is working fine. But then I remembered about the issue with TWRP and booted into recovery - just to discover the problem is back again. I can't mount my internal storage. So I can't flash zip files, I can't do a backup etc.
When I search xda or the web in general, I can't figure out why the problem has occured again. Also I can't find out how to fix it without losing all my data. Can anybody answer these two questions? Why is this happening again and how do I permanently fix it? And can it be with all my data on my phone - because I'm not able to do a backup.

The problem occurs when you use a ROM which encrypts the software or the ROM your flashing has an encrypted kernal. The only way out is to flash a ROM which doesn't encrypt. It is a known problem with TWRP and we have to wait for the TWRP team to update TWRP to handle quota allocation.
It seems the problem is solved for me. I flashed the TWRP version from this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77296102&postcount=1243
First I tried from Odin but it didn't work. Then I installed the TWRP app from Google Play and flashed the other file, rebooted to recovery, and it seems to work. I can mount my internal storage, make a backup etc. So this is the solution for me.
I had also similar problem of internal storage 0mb and i was not be able to mount my data
so when i flash color recovery by nobody
It's gone because it's allready patch by him
I think it's issue of encrypt data so just flash this recovery from nobody post

same problem, have you found solution ? please help me
TWRP sometimes can't mount the storage, the storage is encrypted, but don't worry. You can still flash your files and rewrite system partion. But in order to show the Storage, you have to use a different version of TWRP. Why am I saying this is mentioned following:
I installed the latest version of twrp, It didn't ask for any password patter to decrypt my storage. So , different XDA posts made me understand that , formatting everything, factory reset will decrypt my storage. And trust me, I have done it several time, several times my brother but it didn't decrypt my storage. I couldn't backup my ROM and without backing up my ROM, I didn't take the risk of flashing new ROM. I waited. This twrp couldn't even mount my system partion. So I seeked knowledge from different person. It took a lot of effort.
Then I learned that, I should change this version of TWRP. I changed to an older version and it didn't decrypt my internal storage after formatting, but it mounted my system partion. Since, it couldn't decrypt my internal storage, I couldn't take backup of my rom and save it to internal storage. so I inserted a pendrive in my phone, and saved the backup of my rom there.

Flashing DM Verity Force Encryption Disabler will decrypt your storage instantly. But in my case, it aroused another problem, None of the security measures of my phone worked afterwards. FOD, pin, password, pattern none of them worked. I don't know the reason but I don't suggest it with my little knowledge. but almost every rom flasher use them, so I thing I have to study about them to know how they work.
second and best option: start trying older version of TWRP, the good one will be the one to ask the password the recovery in the beginning. It will decrypt your internal storage.
I was brief here, if anyone doesn't understand these things, let me know, I will explain them step by step because I know the pain of being NEWB.
