In Photo Pro's Menu settings go to Set up and turn off Audio signals. In normal Camera app go to settings and turn off sounds.

The stock camera app doesn't appear to support that. Many third party apps do.
Your work-around with the stock app is to just turn the ringer volume down...
Which third apps you recoment ?

I have the paid versions of Camera360 Ultimate and Vignette.
There's demo versions for both on the Market.
I don't think Vignette supports no camera sound, but Camera360 does.
I was disappointed that I had to buy two different camera apps to get the features I wanted (use volume buttons to take a pic, and mute the camera click sound). In all fairness to the NS, though, my other Galaxy S phones don't have physical camera button options out of the box either.
another alternative is...
to use root explorer or some other file management app and rename the sound file

Yeah, that works, but a bit tedious if you don't want it permanently off. Maybe an SL4A script and a shortcut that did it (renamed it back and forth) would make it more convenient.
But really, the easiest thing is just to turn the volume off on the ringer until you're threw taking your discreet pictures.

Hahahaha, priceless...
Has anyone found the setting on the camera app to turn off the shutter sound? I guess I could just turn down the volume when I take a picture, but I would rather turn off the shutter click. Any ideas?

You could try delete the sound file for it. It's located at system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
You will need root access for that. Alternatively (and probably better) backup the original file and replace it with an empty/silent one of the same name.
I'm able to disable the regular shutter sound my renaming Shutter.ogg in /system/media/audio/ui but does anyone know which file silences the burst shot sound?
Bump. Anyone?

You're right that worked, thank you. Originally that option wasn't available on Verizon but Synergy must have added that feature somewhere along the way and I never noticed it.
Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but is there an option to turn off the camera's shutter sound?
In the photo app, swipe up to get the modes menu. At the top of the screen, you'll have a parameters wheel.
In the parameters, there's a "camera shutter sound" option.
Thanks! I totally didn't see the up arrow in the camera app.
You're welcome.
I searched for some minutes, too. Their camera app is... Not the best i've seen on Android
Hello guys my phone is OnePlus 1 and I don't have ann option to off the shutter sounds can u pls help me
As the title says my Vivo nex S doesn't seem to record any sound.
The only option for sound is in photos not video which is odd, tried enabling and disabling to no effect.
Sound on selfie camera and music etc works fine just not for video recording .
Any idea ?
The sound setting in camera is for disabling camera sound when taking a picture. If you don't want to alert someone you took a picture of them, disable the sound setting.
Open up recorder app and see if you can record sound.
