I have a first gen motoG (xt 1033, india) and I'm on stock 5.0.1 ROM
BootLoader is unlocked and the device is rooted.
I was having trouble updating to 5.1 from the OTA update as after the download the device was getting crashed at the reboot, with the update error.
if i donwload the update file (Retail Asia 5.1 Stock ROM (Optimized) v1.0 (337mb) by lost 101 and istall from recovery:
1. would it clear all my data nd installed apps as opposed to the OTA in which existing apps and data is preserved?
2. would i have to root again?
The new lollipop OTAs check for all of /system and require it to be unchanged. I recommend you to flash the untouched version or install an Asia Retail Firmware through fastboot.
EDIT - Yes you can flash the ROM you will have to lose your data but the optimised version comes with root.
im trying to revert back to lollipop stock rom to install that new stock marshmallow rom. another user said that he had to install stock lollipop then use samsung smart switch to detect that his device is available for update to marshmallow then install that stock optimized rom. odin keeps failing after cm.bin and i have tried 3 different versions, different cables but not different files or different pc. please help

my current rom is custom stock debloated and deodexed from from Pavan. i don't know what is the CSC code of the rom but its based on J700MUBU2APF1
Try this
Download the ZTO MM rom.
Do a full wipe in TWRP.
Reboot into download mode.
Flash the MM rom via Odin.
You'll have to reinstall TWRP (Odin) and reroot (TWRP).

If you only use the 3 files from this post and execute them in order use the 3 files with the command that the author of the publication tells you and you will be root

I just use the 3 files from this post and use the command (fastboot flash boot boot.img) for all 3 files the owner of this post has another post about magisk for version V12.5.6.0 RCDMIXM and I ignored it or installed it too

not at all you just have to remove the (boot.img) and put the names of the 3 files you must do the flastboot process 3 times with the 3 files and the magisk file is already added in this post it is called (boot)
