I'm using Redmi 5 (rosy) with AOSP Extended 7.3
While I'm installing boot animation through boot animation application its saying "an error occurred". I tried manually , but I don't find a '/storage/media' directory or '/data/local/boot animation.zip' . ( I have given root permissions to my root explorer). How can I change my boot animation?
Hint: Add Redmi 5 (rosy) to this thread's title thus mainly owners of such device get addressed.
It is no use to try to change your bootanimation with the boot animation app : this app has not been updated 2017, that means it is incompatible (or/and won't work as expected) for Android 8+ devices.
To do this yourself, find a bootanimation zip on internet (search on Google there are a plenty to choose from), download it to your phone and then using a file manager:
1. go to /system/media and backup the bootanimation zip already present so that if anything goes wrong you will be able to go back
2. move the downloaded the new bootanim to /system/media and overwrite the current file
BE CAREFUL : do not do this is you are running on Android 11 since android 11 changed the way bootanimations are handled and also their location (it is no more in /system/media)

Hello to everyone.
In this guide I will explain you How to Change the Boot Animation & Bootlogo of your phone by an easy and detailed step by step process.
So as the name suggests Bootlogo is the first slide that appears when you power on your phone and Boot Animation is the animation that play there after till the device if fully switched on.
THINGS NEEDED:-
1) A rooted phone.
2) Custom Recovery (CWM or TWRP)
3) Root Explorer App ( Available on Play Store )
NOTE - There are no particulars in case of bootlogos and boot animations, that means any particular bootlogo or boot animation will work on your device if its screen resolution is same as your phone's.
WORD OF CAUTION - Though the method is universal and works for everyone, If anything goes wrong and you brick your device, I am not to be held responsible. ( In case you soft brick your device, flashing the stock firmware on your device and then wiping the cache through recovery will fix it)
CHANGING THE BOOTLOGO :-
1) To change the bootlogo and then apply a custom one, first you need to select the bootlogo that suits you and download it's zip file. Various bootlogos are available on the internet and you will find the best ones in the XDA Themes and Apps forum. So head on to the forum and download the bootlogo zip file that suits you the most.
2) After downloading the zip file reboot your phone to recovery
3) Select 'install zip' in the recovery menu and then browse through your folders and select the bootlogo zip file. Install the zip.
BOOM! You have successfully changed your bootlogo. Reboot your phone to see the change.
CHANGING THE BOOT ANIMATION :-
Now changing this ain't as easy as changing the bootlogo since here the zip is not flashable.
1) As mentioned in the above process download the boot animation zip file that you like the most which you will again find in the XDA Themes and Apps forum.
2) After downloading the zip, open the Root Explorer App and head to the place where you have downloaded the boot animation.(If the file name is bootanimation.zip then for now rename it to something else)
3) Copy the zip file and paste it to system\media which is located in the internal memory of the phone. (You will see that there already exists a bootanimation.zip file which is the original boot animation of your phone)
4) Now rename the original boot animation file to something else and the one you downloaded to bootanimation.zip
5) After that long press the boot animation you downloaded and see the permissions. Make the following changes if it ain't already. Grant the read permission to all three I.e. owner, group and others and the write permission to owner only thus making the permissions as rw-r-r.
BAM! You successfully changed your boot animation. Reboot your phone to see the changes.
If you want some help or underwent a problem, feel free to comment.
Please hit the thanks button if I helped because just saying it won't do me any good.
Cheers!
Now You can install two roms on our MATE 7 phone, and switch between them like installing two Windows systems on a PC.
This just support switching between systems based on the same Android version
You need to have a rooted&fully unlocked phone.
I'm not responsible to any consequences .
You need to download and install dual boot patcher app first.
Second download this
https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0Byw7MVzb0VBXM1QydE01QVZTUEE&export=download
And rename it to devices.json
Open Dual Boot Patcher app once, then go to settings, force stop the dual boot patcher.
Install es file manager or root explorer or any root file manager you like.
Then go to /data/data/com.github.chenxiaolong.dualbootpatcher/files/data-xxx(only one folder like this)
Replace the devices.json file to with your downloaded file and set permission to rwx rwx rwx.
Open Dual Boot Patcher app again, then it will identify honor 6.Then open file manager and go to /sdcard/multiboot. Create a new folder "primary".Then backup your current system's boot partition with Rashr . Get the boot.img and put it into the primary folder.
Open dual boot patcher, swipe from left to right, click rom, then click the three dots on the right of primary .And then click "update ramdisk".
Then reboot. Now you will get a working Dual Boot Patcher app.
If you want to install a second rom, you need to patch it in the main menu. After install ,you have to extract the boot.img from the zip and go to /sdcard/multiboot/data-slot-xxx(the rom name you specified)and put the boot.img in it. Then click update ramdisk on your target rom on dual boot patcher like the primary rom. Then you will be able to switch to the second rom and enjoy. If you want to switch back you need to install dual boot patcher on the second rom and replace the devices.json file.
Enjoy switching between the emui&miui&aosp!

Not multirom manager,it's dual boot patcher.
After I did replace the file still gave Me this
Update: go to post #6
Here's the bootanimation (Hello Moto 2017) from the Moto E4 system image. It's using the same way as Motorola stock ROM to play the bootanimation, so it will replace the bootanimation binary to allow play mp4 videos as bootanimations. It's working on LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2). The .zip file will backup your old bootanimation binary in case you need to revert the changes.
Edit: added file for Android 6.0.x. MotoE4Bootanimation [6.0]. (Don't know if it's working since I'm not using Android 6.0.x, please test and report the results.)
WARNING: I'm not responsible if something happens to your device.
Because this flash file changes the bootanimation binary, you'll not be allowed to use a standard bootanimation.zip (that loads the animation from a bunch of .jpg or .png files) unless you revert to the original binary that came with the ROM, thats why the .zip will backup the original binary (/system/bin/bootanimation_bak). Also, it will not backup your original bootanimation.zip (located at /system/media), it's strongly recommended to backup this file if you want to revert to the original bootani. Or simply, make a backup of your whole system partition just in case anything goes wrong.
Credits goes to firmware.center for providing the Moto E4 system image and Motorola/Lenovo.
If you find this useful, hit the :good: Thanks! button.

It seems the binary file is compatible only with Android 7.1.x. I can try extracting the binary from a Motorola stock ROM with Android 6.0.1 if you're interested.
Edit: you can find the new file in the OP.

Hi! Here's an update to the bootanimations. They are from stock Android Oreo for the Moto E5 Play. I modified the bootanimation to remove the Lenovo logo.
Directions are the same from the first post, so, read carefully before trying.
Update: to flash de boot logo you must first rename the file to change the extension (logo.bin.zip to logo.bin), then reboot your phone into fastboot mode and flash the logo using the command fastboot flash logo logo.bin
In the attachments you can find a preview of the bootanimation and preview of the boot logo.
What about Oreo ROMs ?

• This can brick your device. I don't take any responsability for what you do with your device.•
These are the official Google Pixel boot animation files, from Android Pie. To install them you'll need to have root access on your devices, as well as a root file explorer.
Instructions
•Download the zip of your choice
•Change the name of that zip you had downloaded to "bootanimation"
•Go to /system/media
•Replace the bootanimation.zip in there with yours
•Reboot your device
•Done!
Soon i'll bring the Pixel boot logo too. It will require flashing it with TWRP. Also i'm working on another custom boot animation, so stay tuned!

HOW TO CHANGE BOOT ANIMATION IN SM-J8 ~vks
Any bootanimation.zip should work , just search on google or xda
IMPORTANT, NEEDS LINEAGE 17, or any other rom , other than stock
PREPARATION:
1.Dwnload bootanimation.zip file
2.Check the file using Boot animation changer
( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations )
a. Grant root permission
b. Install from local
c. If it opens, play it , and make sure it is in 720p
d. if it dosent, extract your file , and the try again from step a.
e. It is possible your file was corrupt so don't sweat it
f. installing from app dosent work
3. Root explorer method will not work
4. Proceed to procedure.
PROCEDURE
1.Samsung uses .qmg format so grab that Lineage17.gsi (tested) (or any other gsi/rom , tested on havoc too)
2.After you have successfully completed the lineage17 install
3.Grab your desired bootanimation.zip and save it somewhere accessible
4.Boot into recovery (TWRP recommended , TESTED)
5.Mount > system , back
6.Advanced>File manager
7.It would be a good idea to check the bootanimation folder first
8.System_root > system > media
9.Rename it to bootanimation.ziplineage (anything will do )
10.Back to root directory , then navigate to your bootanimation folder and copy your file to step(8.) folder ( while copying you will not be able to see the previous zip)
11.Back to root , navigate to step(8.) Folder , rename your copied file to bootanimation.zip (important)
12.Reboot to enjoy
Issues:
1.None , in the worst case you will not have an Bootanimation cuz you deleted it , fix it by placing a working one .
2.For the best experience use 720p files , 1080p , and 1440p files get zoomed in center .
3.No bootloop or crash encountered , so it's safe .
4. DONT DO THIS IN STOCK OS.
