To migrate from ROM on a device that uses FBE, can I just wipe data (as it was in FDE) or format the userdata is required every time? At the moment I am suffering from bootloop because after doing wipe data and install a GSI system.img, TWRP is "unable to decrypt the FDE device"

Hi guys Oreo update data partition still encrypted even formatting data with twrp, when i format in recovery twrp can show internal storage and when i reboot and back to twrp it is still encrypted and to mount to backup data i again need to format it
i flashed no_varity along with magisk later and magisk first and no_varity later nothing works out any clue ? i need to backup my data partition
the only thing which comes to rescue is the supersu 2.82 sr5 it fixes which magisk and no varity were not able too
i've been trying to flash new custom roms and everytime i flash them i get error that unable to decrypt data (format data), even after formatting the data the device won't start. sois their any way to flash the rom without getting such errors??? #i'm noob so keep it simple.
after flashing ROM, install Universal DM-Verity ForceEncrypt Disk Quota Disabler, then Wipe -> Format Data -> type yes (if Format Data fails, reboot recovery and try again). How long did you wait for first boot?
hello i have sm-g950f on latest update(pie) and when i flash the twrp it corrupts my data it says failed to mount data, invalid argument i tried all possible ways to fix it like form ext4 to ext2 and again to ext4 but it wont work.It shows 0mb of storage when i try to switch to otg or etc...
The phone is OEM unlocked, any suggestion?
The data partition in TWRP is not corrupted, it's encrypted. TWRP can not decrypt it so data appears to have a 0MB size.
Formatting data will remove the encryption, but it will re-encrypt on the next boot unless it's blocked from doing so. I'm not experienced with this device, but typically setting Magisk to no-encrypt or flashing a no-encrypt kernel for your device are the common ways to keep data from getting encrypted.
This is one is solid for flashing in TWRP to prevent encryption: https://zackptg5.com/android.php#disverfe

Thank you this fixed my issue!!
Is it possible to do this on devices launched with Android 9+ (using FBE by default) by modifying the userdata entry in fstab or similar, or have the current ROMs / kernels lost support to boot with this type of encryption? Are there any successful cases? I ask this because FBE is a nuisance for anyone who likes to modify their device. You need to format the userdata every time you change the ROM, consequently also losing the internal storage, different from how it was in FDE that just wiping data was enough. I have also had many problems at the device random not being able to unlock the userdata and forcing me to format it, which never happened when I had a device with FDE. Any help or information is welcome, thank you!
factory reset should do just fine, else try wiping the header / footer of the partition and format to ext4 or f2fs
Can anyone help i can't understand ?
i flashed twrp with universal dm verity
then i wipe dalvik/art cache / system /data /vendor
then i format using format data by typing yes
then i copy custom rom either in internal storage or usb otg
then i flash the rom
then clean dalvik cache
then i format typing yes
then reboot to system
it erases my custom rom and reboot to recovery in case of miui 12.5 android 11
but incase of lineage os 18 it does not and boots in os perfectly
can anyone tell why?
also why it is not installing in system partition rather on the internal storage
i am using redmi note 4
rom: MIUI_GLOBAL_HMNOTE4_12.5.9.0-11
Note:why i need factory reset is to encrypt to use banking and fintech apps
factory reset enables encryption after installing
but if i not do the factory reset the does not encrypt in anyway but rom works
