Can i skip wifi while setting up my xiaomi mi a2? - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I had some problems with my mi a2, and i did a factory reset (i think, it was some time ago), and now while setting up it can't find my wifi, i know there is notthing wrong with my signal because it's working on my laptop, and theres no option to skip wifi in the xiaomi setup, so now i can't get into my phone.
I've looked into things like using android platform tools to maybe do something, but it seem like i have to do something with my phone to get it to work, and i cant get into my phone.Anyone got any advice?

I remember I had that option.

. Don't you have that `skip' button in the corner too?
If you have it, press it.

Hi, thanks for the reply.I actually saw another video where there was a skip button, but on mine there is none, don't know why.

Well, that's indeed strange.
Unfortunately, I have no idea were this button moved to... Maybe you can screenshot every step from the beginning and show every screen which appears on every button?
But if you do, draw over wifi names and co – that's for privacy reasons.

Hi, it's just like in the video, except there is no skip button...
There is also a lock symbol in the upper left corner.Any idea what that is?

Sorry for answering late, I am a bit busy right now.
I only heared something about a lock symbol on wifi icons to indicate that it's secure/password protected.
Do you have the stock rom installed?

Perhaps your wifi network is set at 5ghz and your phone can't find it? Can you check that and change the frequency to 2.4ghz instead? It may be a dumb idea but it's worth trying

How to disable the HOME button in the Galaxy S6 ?
Don´want my phone to wake up everytime it is in my trousers.
Is there an apk file for it ?
Thanks !
Umm keep it somewhere else?
Your answer really helped ! [emoji35]
Have you found this to actually be an issue? I can't imagine it'd be so big a deal that you'd want to disable the button altogether.

Well, depending on the trousers I wear, I have found this to be annoying as well. You don't have the fingerprint security on? Have you tried repositioning the phone? Maybe the home button against your body as opposed to against the pocket? Or phone top down vs bottom up, etc? My pants are usually pretty tight as well but I've never noticed this issue myself (not to say that it doesn't happen, just that I've never noticed it).
Since everyone ignored your question the answer is as follows.
Open generic.kl in root explorer (device/system/usr/keylayout)
Find the line "Key 172 HOME" and commet it out by editing it to "# Key 172 HOME"
If you just want to disable home button wake, i have a workaround here:

I have found that many times people ask for a solution to weird problem X but if you ask a bit more problem X is a workaround for problem Y which they figured they couldn't solve, so it's better to try to solve problem Y. That way you really help them.

do you need root access on your phone to do that? Because I'm getting "java.io.filenotfoundexception:Read-only file system" error

MIUI thinks I'm swiping back

So, the problem started when I was typing fast, sometimes the keyboard would minimize itself. Then I realized it was only when I was near the "a" key (independent of the keyboard app). So, I got to make some tests, it turns out the screen thinks I am swiping to go back, when I'm not. Please check this video: https://youtu.be/cdg4_oJ68aM
Is there something I can do?
I'm on a Mi Mix 2s 9.5.19.0
I had this problem too. I no longer own the phone though so I'm afraid I can't help. I was wondering if it was fixed in the MIUI 10 beta but nobody has answered it so far. If anyone can chime in to say if it's fixed now would be nice, it made typing basically impossible for me.
Well, it was a display defect. I have to wait 2 weeks for the replacement part to arrive, but it's under warranty. Until then, I'll just use the on screen buttons.
It happens to me from time to time, but not sure if this is my fault. I don't understand the methodology of your test on the video (what are you pressing and when?).

It's the test module of MIUI, I'm just tapping left, right, left, right, etc, sometimes it is interpreted as a swipe between the 2 points (when a line appears). But it's pretty agressive in my display, got it checked and they are going to replace it under warranty.
So I shouldn't get any red lines when just taping right and left? I have those....
That's what happens to me and I'm getting back randomly after a few seconds of quickly taping left and right.
Where did you buy your phone?
I bought it on Aliexpress with Goldway but sending it back for a replacement is not really an option for me.

That lines get interpreted as swipes, so that's why my keyboard minimized when i was using it. If you want something more graphic you can try it on a simple drawing app (like this one), please look at the attached file. I live in Bolivia, here Xiaomi has official representation, so they come with a 15-month warranty.

So this shouldn't happen at all?
Please see image attached.
Could other users confirm that when they just tap left and right very quickly, no lines are created? Thanks!
Xiaomi now sells directly in France but I have the 8/256 version only sold in China for now anyway.
Now it happens to me from time to time to have the keybord closed with a "false" back, but not enough to really think there was an issue, I just didn't understand why it closed. Thanks for pointing that, now I'm gonna be annoyed each time.

But hey, you know what i did in the meantime? I installed XDA Gestures, configured the same gestures as MIUI, and hid the gesture pill. Voilà, you get the same but without that problem. :good: That's good for now.

You mean:
1) Put back navigation bar on MIUI, disable gesture
2) Install XDA gesture and remove the navbar, configure it as MIUI
3) ?????
4) Profit
Is that it?
There are quite some options in XDA Gesture settings, could you post a screenshot of your preferences (like the 4 screens) so I can copy them? Sorry to bother you with this!
Also instead of using the sides to swipe back, it will use the lower part of the screen only? That's how your fix works?

Here are the settings attached (the pill color is transparent), just changed the right swipe to go to last app, instead of back. Remember that to install XDA Gestures you have to use ADB from your PC/Mac, for that to work you have to enable both "USB Debugging" toggles shown in the screenshot.
Does attached mean my unit is ok?

Thanks a lot, gonna do that on monday, just waiting for my bootloader waiting period to end (I know I can to this without root or anything, but as I'll need to do it again....)
Just to confirm, this means the gestures will be at the bottom of the screen only, no back function from the edge, right ? I don't think it will bother me much if this is like that.

Open Google Home app. Select your device and then Settings. Scroll down to “Device settings,” then select Accessibility. If you want to hear a sound only after you say “OK Google,” turn on the toggle On next to Play start sound and leave the Play end sound slider off Off.
If you want your device to play a sound after you say “OK Google” and after Assistant stops listening, turn on the toggles On next to Play start sound and Play end sound On.

I did find this but I don't know if it'll do it..
First make sure that you’re connected to the Wi-Fi network you’ll use for your smart speaker and then launch the Google Home app on your phone. The next step is to tap the “+” icon in the top-left corner, select the “Set up device” option, and then tap on “Set up new devices in your home. All you have to do from there is follow on-screen instructions to get the Google Home set up.
Also make sure Google home is the default app and not Bixby.

I do believe they're talking about the Accessibility on the phone itself though so open the Settings on your phone scroll down to Accessibility and then on the next page you'll see switch access make sure it's on? Mines set to off so maybe yours is too.

Phone vibrates when I pick it up.

May be you guys should try turning off the setting and restart, if that doesnt solve the problem go to recovery mode and clear cache. Let us know if any of that works.
On a side note: I have been facing weird ass issues with this phone just today my phone wont go to mute by using volume key while receiving a call. Like someone calls you and your phone is ringing, you just want to silence the ringtone you can use volume key (Press once), Flip the phone or put your palm over it (If you have the settings on). I tried multiple restarts and switched on and off the settings many times. It was fixed when i restarted my phone to download mode (This happened by mistake i wanted to go to recovery) anyhow that fixed it.

Also try clearing system cache in the boot menu.

That can be a daunting task but sort of fun because you can streamline your notification settings as you do so.

Playing with Android is fun... Android witch hunts are how you really learn about Android's gooey layer tricks.
Google searches on older Notes and parallel Samsung models can turn up answers many times.
This model is too recent; so not near as much online troubleshooting info. Google searches encompass threads on this forum as well so it can be a good way to find the needle in the Android stack. Do not time limit searches.
On my 10+ with it's baffling bt poor audio I found the answer with something written about the N9.
Many of these issues are long standing.
Samsung finally fixed the bt settings issue in a Wearables update. That took years.

There are apps that log notifications so you can just check the log and quickly determine what is causing the notification even if nothing is showing on-screen

It's the edge-compass app
Just delete it from edge apps and it'll go away.. cheers

Well, I've checked all that and nothing, I don't even have the compass edge panel. But I think I'm able to replicate the issue, it mostly happens when my phone is face down on a surface and I pick it up and turn it to me, I don't have a case on it yet and I'm starting to think that it might have something to do with the edge screen but so far no luck
Use good lock. It has a module to detect vibrations and tell you what they are
Nice catch

Yeah, I installed it yesterday. But no vibrations are registered there so honestly I don't even know what to think now.
On the other hand when I switched from my note 10 plus I used smart switch, and now I'm thinking I should do a fresh start on my n20U.

Exactly check if you have Notistar from good lock switched on. That cache might need clearing.
I just go with it lol. I'm nutz. I'll feel my **** vibrate in my pocket when its sitting on the table. So I don't pay much mind to phantom vibrations. ???

It does suck some battery life though. It's one of the features I disable on my 10+ mostly because I find it annoying.
It's cool though how much you can customize notification behavior; one of the biggest reasons to go with Samsung is customization.
I play around with Settings a lot.. never crashed a load doing it. It's just occasionally gets time consuming to sort it out.

My phone's stock firmware broke my power button

Hello everyone. I would like to know if anyone experienced this, and if anyone has a solution (or at least an idea why).
The power button of my Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) (SM-A750G) phone does not work at unlocking the screen (if it works in the rest of the functions such as opening the shutdown menu, entering recovery, etc.) when I am using stock firmware, but it works perfectly when using a GSI or any other custom OS.
Do you have any idea what could happen? It should be noted that this happened to me when my phone had the stock firmware and I had never modified my equipment at all... It just happened suddenly and for that reason I switched to a GSI. But now I would like to use the stock firmware, but I will not be able to do it with this "bug".
Thanks 4 the help
You mean unlocking or just turning the screen on an unlocked phone?
The app DoubleTap does away with using any buttons to turn the screen on/off. Simply 2x tap it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...apk&pcampaignid=APPU_1_oD7zX7-SMMvesAWsh5_ADA

I mean turning on a phone screen. Since if it allows me to unlock it, but not turn it on.
P.S: I did not know the app you mention (it did not occur to me to look for something like that XD) I will try it, thanks for the link

That's strange. Have you tried remapping the button? Are there options to do so in settings?
Possibly another 3rd party apk remapped without you being aware of it?
I been using this app for over a year. To spite the ad warnings, it has none. Uses almost zero battery, never connects with the internet and is rock solid stable. Saves button life just keep the screen pointed away from your flesh when in your pocket to avoid accidentally taps.
Note: I never gave it administrator privileges as I never use a lock screen. So not sure about its behavior in that mode of operation.

I tried the app a few moments ago and it seems to work fine, the flesh thing is apparently configurable (assign the volume key, which is the most similar).
Regarding the mapping or 3rd party apks using the button, I see it almost impossible, not only because I don't use any app of this type (that reassigns keys) but in completely clean installations of stock firmware this happens to me (and I don't have any option key remapping that I know of).
It's very weird, at least for me. Because not only does it "break" to unlock, but it is only with stock firmware and even if I change the kernel (I tried using the quantum kernel) the key does not work when turning on the screen. But with the GSI it works without problems.
I even googled questions related to Always in display, power or something similar and nothing, there seems to be no conflicts.

Make sure there's no remapping options for it in settings. If so it may be buried or under accessibility options... I've seen hidden Sammy drop down menus with no indication they are there until you double tap the top label. Swell.
Or simply bypass and double tap it!

hehe, if it is true that there are really hidden things XD
Anyway, I am testing this app and if I see that it works I will be encouraged to install the stock firmware and by the way I will try to dig deep into the configuration in search of an option that I have overlooked

Update:
I have installed the stock firmware and used the app you recommended, but no results: / The same thing keeps happening.
I have checked the accessibility options and there is nothing blocking the button :O

You enabled the appropriate buttons in it's settings?
I'm running Pie; it may not be compatible with 10 and up because of the overlay crap.

It seems like I have a similar problem. Do you have any recommendations ROM for SM - A750GN?

Personally, the one that I liked the most (and the one that works best) is the Google official (Android 10): https://developer.android.com/topic/generic-system-image/releases But one problem is that it is very outdated.
Anyway, here is a list of some GSIs that you can check and test which one works on your device: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
And here is a tutorial that worked well for me to install GSI: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-workings-gsi-best-treble-gsi-roms-for-a7-2018.4069121/

Thanks! I'll try that
EXACTLY same problem here. I will not repet your words, I'll just say you described EXACTLY what is happening with my phone, a Galaxy A7 2018 (128GB RAM, Brazilian model - A750G/DS).
I can confirm that:
1 - Problem of screen never turning on after being turned off for the first time happens at all stock ROMs. Tried at android 10, downgraded to 9, couldn't downgrade to 8 because odin would not write the image, but the problem persisted on ALL stock ROMs up untill now.
2 - Problem DOES NOT happen at the TWRP recovery. Flashed TWRP just now, so I can flash a GSI, and I can turn the screen on or off as many times as I wish at TWRP screen, without any problem.
These informations corroborate, almost without a shadow of doubt, the idea that this is actually a software problem, not a hardware one. I'm gonna flash the google 10 GSI now, with quantum kernel V3 (seems to be a requirement, I would like to make as litle changes as possible) and post the results.

Try this. You need flash a "GSI Boot Fix" to use a GSI on A750.
