Hi all,
I want to use android, but the wave has camera flash and the same hardware as the galaxy s. Will it be possible to port android to wave easily? And is it likely that someone will do that in the future, since I can't do it myself?
Thanks in advance
anyone can help?
I do not think android will be ported to Wave.
damnd
i too am curious if ther are any devs out there who might want to droid the wave.
gotta say, i did look at the s8500 (wave) and hardware specs totally confirm: i want it.
but i refuse bada. I want android.
Yes, the galaxy s is the other choice with nearly the same hardware... but the price!!
Samsung galaxy s: 499€
Samsung Wave : 305€
that is nearly 200€ extra for a phone with the same specs, no cam light and android.
i kinda refuse to pay that.
sorry samsung, you loose.
(ps: with 10% of the money saved on the wave we could maybe get a dev to do this? )
Me also
I would pay 10% of the money I saved, the galaxy s is to big

You think someone will spend 50+ hours to port android to Wave for 20 Euro?

is it pessimism or arrogance that makes you say that?
ehw, doesn't matter to me anyways.
considering i'm _not_ the only one who'd be ready to give a little cash for a port, there might very well be more than 20€ in it.
But as most of the people in this forum do this stuff for free, why the hell would 20€ and some definite fame (and love by me) not encourage someone to do it?
Aaaand who sais it will take 50+hrs? that is definitely plain pessimistic!
i dont mean to hurt any feelings or anything, but you really dont see any "android ports" that actually work... and if i hear someone use the word droid one more time without making referance to 1 of the 3 android phones verizon offers, im going to shoot myself.. back on topic though, andoid isnt about making it work were it shouldnt. its about making it work earlier than sprint verizon htc motorola etc etc want it working. ;]

umad?
'droid (yeah, i did it, please go ahead ) is an open source system pretty closely related to linux/unix afaik (might be wrong there, but what i seen from filestructure etc...)
sooo why do people install linux/unix on their coffeemaker, washing machine or mobile phone?
because they can!
...but if i'm wrong about the purpose of android related discussions on xda-devs and you Sir are correct about just beeing ahead of the game of vendors, i sincierly apologize and will go buy an iphone now. -.-
not.
Samsung Wave with Android
Hi Folks,
In a good month time I´m also in the line with a new phone.
I´m also currently in love with the Hardware and Size of the Samsung Wave but personaly don´t like the current SW status of Bada.
So if there is someone out there willing to port Android to it I´m also willing to sponsor my 10% as zerthrymr.
I believe there are quite a few people out there that might join so the programmer should break even soon with the time spend.

Just to prove that this can be possible http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yO2KQHkt4A.

Those are just emulations. It isn't really Android running on the device.
Bada can do themes! I think the platform is good enough to code some cool theme for it. Anyways, i have a wave now and i didn't pay a single cent for it. Samsung just gave it to meee
Hi all!
I would like to join to sponsoring desire of porting Android to Samsung wave.
Very very like specification of this device
Just get a Galaxy S or something, instead of wasting your time trying to port an OS.
Dude not everyone likes the Galaxy S and the Wave has a one of a kind look. Its just posting to a forum, so I don't see much time being wasted. Samsung or HTC or whoever will come out with something new in a few months anyways so we don't have to settle for the Galaxy S, but in the meantime it doesn't hurt to ask for possible options for the only IMHO non-ugly smartphone.
ive got a galaxy and would even put 20 bucks on the porting android wave.
Count me in too! I will also donate to the creation of porting Android to the Samsung Wave.
i'll donate to have android on wave
Well looks like this aint gonna happen, which sucks. Anyone want to buy a cheap Samsung Wave? I'm going to go get a HTC Evo!
Hello Guys...
Just got the Samsung Wave - and I must say what a great little phone it is - shame about some of the software (like the customisation that local phone providers have done - really slows the phone down - even to the pointof crashing it because their applications are not stable - Take note T-mobile in the UK).
The Bada system is not that bad - still in its beginings - but it is an Open system running on a Linux kernal - and its on par with Android (ok not as popular), but still good.
Since both the Galaxy S and Wave are running the same hardware- it should be possible to flash the Wave with the Android firmware designed for the Galaxy. I have not delved inot this much -so any comments from experienced developers would be welcomed - but to be honest I don;t see a problem with loading the Galaxy S firmware onto the Wave.

I just bought a new Galaxy Note 10.1 and I'm very excited, but also a bit overwhelmed.
It feels like an very responsive. I've only just begun to explore it, but Google Now and voice dictation is just fantastic.
I'm a little disappointed at how reflective the screen is. Are there good screen protectors that will reduce that reflectivity?
What are some good resources for learning about all of the features and how best to get up to speed and be productive on it?
What thread would you recommend to help me decide if it's worth rooting the device?
What thread(s) would you recommend for learning about favorite applications?
Thanks for your help and for being such a great resource.

Root is only needed if you require root .

I certainly don't require it. My device is pretty cool as it is. But, I'm wondering if there are even cooler things I can do with a rooted device. And, I'm curious to know the risks, as well.

I got my note a couple of days ago and am loving it ( coming from galaxy tab 8.9 ). I rooted mine so that could use multi view to be able to watch catch up tv and be able to have messenger open at the same time.
I bought one 3 months ago and that's the best android tablet I can find in the market. The screen resolution it's not the of course, but it's not really bad. Battery life is so good to use a quad core processor. It could be better. We can expand the internal memory with any micro sd card. Performance is as good as android optimize is. I'm quite happy and we'll wait for android 5.0, a really good new for all of us.
Asany flash, rooting your device has the potential to brick your device. If you aren't sure about the definition of brick go to a building site and grab one of those rectangular things to see what it does...
The reason most people brick their devices is they don't read the instructions or rush through them. It's a simple matter but there are steps to follow. There's a sticky in the developement section explaining EVERYTHING you need to know and how to do it safely.
I like the fact I can now do things like backup my rom for those times bad things happen... Even if the device needs to go back to Samsung I can still get everything back as it was using my nandroid backup.
I currently use a Samsung Galaxy SIII on verizon. I did the whole rooting and bootloader thing (whatever you call it). Im in the market for a new phone and was wanting some insight on what new phones are out there that i can do the same thing. I love the ability to load custom roms and do away with all the bloatware that come with every phone. Can some one help out with letting me know what phone still has the capability to root like i did my SG3. I keep reading that the new galaxy phones are impossible to root anymore. I was leaning towards the note 4 but it looks like theres not root for it. Im looking for a phone that I know can be rooted (along with the bootloader) and where i can use custom roms. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Hi,
you won't get your question answered on XDA. I suggest you search for the best phone you should pick yourself. For the ability to root the phone you desire, I recommend you to have a look if there is a device forum on XDA and that the phone is rootable.
Good luck!

I have a few general questions and I'm not sure if this is the right forum for them.
I currently have the iphone 5 for verizon, but as normal I am getting an upgrade itch.
I dont mind either platform, I have used both. Now, what do I need is a device with somewhat decent battery as I work 12 hour shifts. I was thinking of getting the droid turbo for that precise reason but it's already a year old and I am not sure if it will be to quick on the update side of things. I am thinking of going back to android simply for the bigger screen, I know I could go to an iphone 6 plus but that's not a discussion I want to have here.
What I am asking here is:
How would the s6 compare to my iphone 5 I have now? How is the battery useage? ( I can now get in day of work but with a mota battery case) Anything else you can think of that would be drastically different? My last android device was the s3, so I am familiar with android and I also had mine rooted and custom rom'd.
If the s6 wont offer better battery or performance, what android device will? a nexus? something else?
Thanks for any input on this matter.

Given this sticky at the top of the General section, no.
Do NOT post questions In the General Section
A mod will move it here shortly.

If you haven't made up your mind yet.... Droid Turbo 2
I am looking to upgrade the ROM on my phone since some of my apps are no longer being supported. I dont want to purchase a new phone since I really like the phone and the new phones all seem to be mini-computers. I like my small phone!
Is there anyone out there that can point me to a ROM that would work for the Stellar and get me to at least 4.5?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
Your device doesn't have a dedicated forum here and as it's fairly uncommon and several years old there doesn't seem to be much dev support for it. The only relevant thread I could find is this one but it isn't too helpful. That's all I have I'm afraid, unless you want to ask in the general Q&A and hope for the best.
