By any chance has any one ever come across a book style case for the desire z with a hole for the charging cable? I purchsed a cheap one off ebay but it doesn't have it, and the pdair one covers the hole aswell. its just annoying having to leave the case open when it's charging.

Honestly, I don't think so, the charger connector lays way to deep into the case, I would go to a store to try one first.
I've tried 3 cases so far, and the only one that works with the Smartdock for me was the Ringkey Fusion clear case. I had to cut the port cover off of it since it wouldn't fit with it on there, but other than that it's a great fit.
Every other case I've tried made the plastic too deep around the USB port.
So much for that idea.

Not sure if there's a generic USB C dock that would fit a G5 with a rugged case? I'm getting the OtterBox Defender but if there's a rugged case+dock combo that works, I'm all ears.

Good choice on case. Case can taken a beating. Drop my phone a lot hard surface and all is fine. Dock couldn't find when I got my otterbox case

Now that I've received the Defender, I can see why there's no compatible docks - there's a rubber protective tab covering the USB port.
In hindsight maybe the ideal rugged case has wireless charging.

I don't think lg g5 supports wireless charging. I read something bout a module allowing it. But it's bulky so idk

In terms of a dock, I was more thinking a rugged case would work better having wireless charging built into its backing (and connect to the phone's USB port). It would mean a dock would only need to hold the phone upright, with a blank panel at the rear of it to house the charging element. Best of all worlds.

I want to buy a protective case but I would much rather buy a protective case that also has wireless charging built in that utilizes the 2x accessory power pins. Anyone working on building such a case for PH-1?
