System taking storage - General Questions and Answers

P3XL Android 11 system taking up spaces for no apparent reason. Freshly reset for the third time this week, still no idea why my system space is taking more storage than expected.
It occurred during an failed installation from an apk, and after successfully installed apk.

What APK have you installed?

5.1.0- How to Integrate updated system apps?

Hello!
Did anybody allready found the way to integrate updates of system apps into rom? On 5.0.1 you have just simply copy app and lib folder from /data/app to /system/app, but it seems that this isn't work any more.
Any working solution is appreciated.
Regards, Zagor
@rootSU, @_MetalHead_, @Elluel, @jd1639, ..., maybe?
5.1 hasn't even been released for my device yet
I have a connected issue.
I cannot convert apps to system apps as it says there isn't enough space in \system. It worked fine on 5.0.1 so what they done???

It's not about the space. You can get it by removing some unnecessary apps. The problem is, that if you integrate an app, system somehow woudn't recognize it anymore.

Sorry zagorteney, I haven't tried to do what you're asking.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm still on 5.0.2 as I haven't merged 5.1 into my source yet.
I'm on 4.4.4 still so I can't really help you. Sorry.
What apps are you trying to integrate? Some app's lib files sometimes need to be on the /system/lib folder in order for them to work. 5.1 is also ODEX'ed.
I had issues doing it also. Didn't care enough to dig into it. Not a big deal, just execute the APK to update.

I'm trying to integrate all updated Google apps. About lib's files you mentioned: it was on 4.4.4, that you have to exctract apps and copy apk to /system/app and corresponding libs to /system/lib. You have also to give them correct permissions. Actually, you have to be carefull and copy libs from PrebuiltGsmCore (or Google Play Services, if you like) last one. Otherwise you got force closes.
On 5.0.1 it was much easier. You just have to move apk and Lib folder from /data/app/ to /system/app or /system/priv-app. Permissions is allready ok. Cleaned dalvik (ART) cache and voila. You have integrated system apps (no need to have them on phone two times).
On 5.1 there are some strange things, that I can't figure it out. For example: if you move updated apk to /system/app it's somehow not installed anymore. I try do all possible ways, one of attempt succeeded, but when I try to do exactly the same with another one, it fails.
Also, I think, that actually problem with Xposed is somehow related to this behavior.
Sorry I'm mentionig you folks again, but because you are profs, you can maybe use this info also on Xposed thread.

Mine was ,yes. Severe endfire / noise cancellation issues once lollipop dropped I couldn't make a call without editing the build.prop. Which means I cannot even sell the device to get money. Very annoyed.

But, this is not lollipop related. It must be something with hardware.
Likewise. Still on 5.0.2 atm. I can tell you that much.

Not sure why Xposed is relevant. Xposed involves so much more possible things that could break.

Of course you are wright. But till 5.1 Ive never noticed such a "strange" behavior of android system.
So this is just my humble opinion.
P.S. Further conclusions: You can simply make any other app as system one, but still no with updates.
@rootSU
Any news on this, now that you have got 5.1 too?

Apk will not install

Hello guys,
OK, I have enabled installation from "unknown sources" but to my frustration, some apks refuse to install. Most especially Mobdro and Contact Optimizer.
When I click these apks, I get the option to "Install" or "Cancel". If I click on "Install", it does nothing regardless of the number of times I click but once I click on "Cancel" it exits the installation process.
I have installed other apks successfully but these two refuse.
Help needed please,
Thanks

Thanks once again.

It is actually warez and is not allowed to even be talked about on XDA. Should a mod come across this topic, both of your replies will be deleted for even mentioning it.

oh I see, I had no idea! I won't be looking into it.
but it there a good tool that can fix glitched packages? my system thinks com.google.android.GoogleCamera is installed but I can't find it anywhere and any install of it is blocked x'D
for now I installed a modded one I found on xda that let's you have older + latest 4.2 with modified package name com.google.android.GoogleCameraMOD and it's working....
Are you on Pure Nexus, by chance? I know you're not stock since you mentioned 7.1.2. If you're using that ROM, in the download section underneath the ROM and gapps, there's a camera fix zip and you need to flash that as well. @GizmoTheGreen

[Q] Unable to sideload apps

Strange issue here. I cannot get apps to sideload. I can select an APK to install with a file manager app that has Install Unknown Apps set to Allowed, and it appears to start the install. But when it looks like it's finished, the prompt displays "App not installed." Anyone run into this before?

Try side loading an app from APK Mirror and see if that works.
Is the app that you are trying to install already installed? I get that message when I try to install an older version over a new version. I have to uninstall the newer version to install the older version.

I've run into the same issue with other extractor apps.
They appear to extract ok but they are DOA on reload.
Try using APK Export
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...google&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=apk+export
This one works, ad free and no internet connection, highly functional freeware on Playstore.
How that happened?:silly:

Either permission to side load isn't enabled, the apk is damaged or it's incompatible with the device or OS.
Try side loading a known good apk.

Stock camera apk for Find X2 Pro

I messed up my camera by using an APK form apkmirror.com. Probably i choosed a non compatible camera. Stupid idea.
I tried them all by now and stil the camera is not working. It goes as far as the permissions for location, but then it crashes.
I really hope that someone can provide me a link for the stock camera APK for the Find X2 Pro (ColorOS 11).
Thanks in advance !

Try this : open camera app properties and check if you have an option to uninstall the updates.
Otherwise, factory reset of the phone should revert to stock app.

Thanks for your tips. !
I had tried the 'Uninstall updates' option already, but it isn't there unfortunately.
The factory reset is an option i want to avoid for now. Maybe later.
