Got Gear 2 to sync with HTC One M7, trying to control music (Google Music Play, Soundcloud etc.) with Gear 2, but I don't have Media Controller app.
How do I get it? How else can I sideload apps onto Gear 2?
Thanks!

Are you sure it's not installed? By default it's not on the main launcher pages, however when you tap on the Apps icon it should bring you to all the apps installed.
If you have tried this, then I'd recommend that you download TizenMod 3 and use Odin. But first try reset the Gear to factory settings.

Yeah it's definitely not there, it doesnt even show up either under My Aps in my Gear Manager app on device...
I already factory resetted it once to get it to pair with my HTC.
Any way I can just download / sideload it back on?
Even if I got it, would it work controlling Soundcloud, rdio, spotify etc.?
Thanks!

If you don't have TizenMod loaded, then your gear is not rooted. You need a rooted (admin rights) OS on your gear to sideload any apps. So, your best bet is to follow the directions to load TizenMod via Odin which will get your music control app back and give you root.
The music control app has been able to control Rhapsody and a few other apps on my phone. It should work also for you. If not, there are other apps on the Samsung app store under Gear Manager. Which if you have an HTC you may also benefit from loading a rooted Tizen rom on your gear. There's several threads here on XDA that are basically guides for loading TizenMod and also loading Gear Manager on non Samsung devices.
Chris
I've noticed that during the initial sync the Gear will hide some applications if it finds that the phone doesn't have the corresponding applications installed. Are you sure you installed all the Gear Manager apks? You will have to factory reset and pair again to."unhide" the applications.
If you want to see the full list of applications, then factory reset the Gear and use my trick to skip the initial pairing. But as long as your phone doesn't contain all necessary programs those will hide the moment you pair.

Try installing the "Player Control" app from below thread.

No need root, no need mod rom.
Why can I see paid apps in the store only by using a Samsung phone?
Anybody? And will Samsung change that soon?

Got the same problem, with HTC One M9 + Gear s2...
The reason is, that the Samsung App Store has an own payment method instead of goole play store's method...
At the moment, you cant pay for samsung app on a non-samsung device, so it doesnt listing the paid apps, only the free ones...
BUT: today, i've signed in with my accounnt on a samsung mobile device (galaxy 24 mini), paired my watch, paid some apps, installed it.
when i have paired it back again with my M9, the installed apps disappeared (soft reset when pairing a deivce), and the apps that i paid on a samsung device, still doesnt appears on the M9 store
Just an idea, tried it out, but doesnt work
is there any way, to save the app from the watch (when i bought is, and installed it from a samsung device), and re install it (with the saved installer) from the non-samsung device?

I imagine there are technical problems for Samsung to make paid apps open to all, but it can't be an insurmountable problem, and it would be good for consumers and developers if they opened the paid apps to non-Samsung phones. Samsung is a giant corporation and so not particularly easy to contact or persuade, but I wonder if developers started a petition that might help persuade Samsung to fix this situation.
I've got a oneplus one - just wondering if they're are any worthwhile paid apps that I'm missing out on?

It mainly depends on what you want to do with your watch. I bought the app My Notes in Gear. It let's you create notes and task lists on your phone and sync these with your watch. I am also using komoot which is a free app but didn't show in the Gear store with a non Samsung phone. For me it was reason enough to switch the phone...
I am not hundred percent sure. I was having the same issue (not a big deal as I also had a Samsung phone, so I switched). When utilizing a Samsung phone, there are way more free applications and the paid applications are accessible too. Also, I believe the store has a slightly different layout.
I read somewhere that said someone contacted Samsung. They replied saying that they were working on a fix, but the reason was that they weren't able to accept payments (or some other payment issue) on non-Samsung devices.
I am sure it will be fixed soon. Hold tight!
If I connect my gear s2 to a Samsung phone to get access to paid apps and watchfaces and download them to the watch will they still be there when I switch back to my non Samsung phone?
I'm mainly talking about watch faces at this time. It seems like all the good digital ones are hidden to me now.
And maybe ultimately a good thing, but with the most recent Gear app update (for your phone), the layout of the app changed, and I noticed a recommended app at the bottom that wouldn't install. I suspect this app (can't recall which one) was an app that Samsung phone users can install, and the rest of us can't. My theory is this was either an outright error, or may portend non-Samsung phone users eventually getting access to at least more apps, if not paid apps.

no, i've tried this solution.
if you pairing the watch to other device, every time you need to soft reset is (than the installed apps is gone). :crying:
Just flashed stock Android O to my pixel xl then rooted. Samsung pay doesn't seem to even start whereas before with root it would start but then say it doesn't work on a rooted device. This would leave me to believe that SPay didn't work yet on Android O. Can anyone offer input on this? Thanks
Was just about to come and ask the same question. I know it was not working at all on the Beta of Android Oreo but I thought it would on the official build but nope, looks like we gotta wait for Samsung to update something...the Spay app or the gear app...dunno.

Is your gear S3 actually working on Android O? When I was on DP4 on my Pixel I could not even connect it to my phone and the gear app wasn't compatible via the play store either

Mine is working on O. I get all my notifications and everything like before, just SPay won't even start.
Same Here cant get Samsung Pay to install on Pixel running Oreo then obviously cant setup on my Frontier
Same here with my Nexus 6P, everything except Spay seems to be working fine.
Joined the Android Beta program last week in order to get the 8.0 OTA on my Pixel without waiting. As others have noted, everything else works fine (mostly) but Samsung Pay doesn't open and delivers a crash dialog when opening the Gear app. Also visiting the Play Store no longer shows the Pay app at all, and going to the Play Store on my PC while logged into my Google account lets me get to the Pay app page, but it's marked "This app is incompatible with your device." So, no way to reinstall. (Also, the Pay app is no longer in the launcher or in the Gear applications list.)
I assumed I was out of luck probably until Samsung releases Oreo on their phones, when I'd expect an 8.0-compatible version of the Gear and Pay apps to be available. HOWEVER, in scrolling through my running apps today on my Pixel, what should I see in the list? SAMSUNG PAY. Running in the background. Well, I thought, what if I just access the Storage page and clear the cache and data and restart it? VOILA! I used my watch (not the phone!) to launch Pay, and it immediately opened the setup dialog on my phone. I was able to sign back into my Samsung Pay account and re-add all my credit cards without any problem, and everything is now working fine.
EXCEPT -- the Pay app still doesn't appear in the Launcher or in the Gear apps list, so I guess it's running in some weird stealth mode. But it's running, which is all I care about. So if SPay isn't working for you after updating to Oreo, try Settings > Apps, find the app in the list, go to Storage, and delete data and cache. Launch Pay from the watch and see if it works.
(Note that I am on the OTA install, which means my phone wasn't wiped to install Oreo and the Pay app was still on the phone. If you flashed from the bootloader and you are installing from scratch I think you're out of luck since there's no way to reinstall Pay just yet.)

I accidentally uninstalled Samsung Gear trying to fix this issue. How can I get the Samsung Gear apk again? Is there any way you can pull the APK (AirDroid makes this very easy) and you can upload it?
Found a solution on Pixel XL using Oreo (OPR6) which is rooted using SuperSU and has SU Hide.
1. Download Samsung Pay for Android Wear
2. Download Samsung Pay framework
3. Install both
4. Hide both in SU Hide (tap each app once)
5. Turn off AdGuard (probably just me) to connect to server
6. add cards and let the cashiers be wowed by the magic of the gear S3
*Edit*- I will add that Samsung Pay doesn't show up in the Samsung Gear app or in the apps listed on the watch (shows SPAY version 0.0.1), but SPAY will open when you use the watch.

Thanks so much but is there any way you can upload the Samsung Gear app itself? The main one? The one for non-Samsung phones? It absolutely refuses to show up in the Google Play Store because I am on 8.0

That's really strange -- I'm on 8.0 and never had any problem seeing the Gear app in the Play Store, only the SPay app. Have you tried accessing the Play Store from your PC while logged into your Google Account? When you do that, the Gear app will always show up -- it will just tell you if it's able to be installed on your device or if your device is incompatible. What does it say?

It says my device is incompatible. Does not matter if I am doing it on the phone or on the PC! What could be wrong?

anyone managed to get this to work with the latest version
i'm on pixel but since there's no magisk yet
we can only use suhide but samsung pay still detect root
maybe it's because of busybox but i can't find busybox anywhere
does supersu use busybox? i looked in xbin, system/bin. still nothing
Hi there,
running OmniROM without root, but the Samsung Pay still shows me my phone is rooted. Is there any app to trick the Samsung app? I see you are mentioning SUHIDE, but I don't want to root. Thanks

I believe omnirom has busybox as part of the ROM itself. SPay detects Busybox as root and therefore won't work.
Hi, I have a Pixel XL running Oreo 8.1 DP2 and planning to ditch my Huawei watch for a Gear S3 Classic.
1) Is the compatibility good between Pixel and S3? (Accessing messages on my watch and customizing the watch faces are not big deal for me). Notifications, health tracking are what important for me.
2) Is Samsung Pay working on 8.1? SPay is the main reason I want to switch other than the better battery.
Is it a good idea switching from Android Wear to Tizen if my phone is Google Pixel?
Thanks in advance guys.
FYI, used this tutorial for my Huawei Mate 10 Pro and it worked like a charm! Thanks!!!
Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post.
I'm trying to remove Gapps and Samsung apps on this phone using ADB commands.
I cant remember all the names of the apps I've removed but some of them are:
-Play Store, Gmail, Youtube, Facebook ( and fb services)
-Galaxy Store, My Galaxy, Samsung max, samsung free, game launcher
-Netflix, One Drive
However after removing these apps and restarting the phone (it works just fine before rebooting) the phone is stuck in a reboot cycle.
Is there something I need to remove thats checking for the apps or is there one particular app from that list that I should not delete (I hope its not play store)
Any inputs are appreciated.
It's likely one of the core apps that's causing this. Normally I'd suggest a reset or flashing the stock rom again but so far I haven't seen any copy of the stock rom floating around. Try to boot the device into safe mode and see if it works - https://www.samsung.com/in/support/mobile-devices/safe-mode-on-samsung-phones/
I'd suggest disabling the apps you don't need. Those that can't be disabled or uninstalled can be put to deep sleep so they don't use any resources. (This doesn't work for apps like Play Store, Galaxy Store etc).

Thanks, I guessed so too. Also I managed to get into the bootloader or something. Clicked on factory reset and got it back to working condition. Will continue to experiment with what can be removed and not.
You cannot debloat samsung device in that way because it's integrity checking by matching the list of default apps and available apps. since there is a mismatch it's stuck in a bootloader or boot. wait for working root method for android 11 samsung then it will be much more swift to remove stock apps.
Thanks.

Hi
I use the M12 and uninstalled all the apps you mention, less Galaxy Store. I used ADB No problems in my device .
I usually disable the app I want to uninstall and I observe the behavior of Phone, if everything is ok, so I uninstall it it
I would appreciate if you can elaborate your problem and provide more information.
Google pay is supported in my country. (Romania)
I installed the app on the watch from the appstore, added the card , confirmed it through the bank. All fine.
Problem is that when I open the google pay app, it asks it to be set as default then redirects me to a menu to enable NFC, and there is only Samsung pay available there.
I searched a lot for this. A lot of people reported this error. Any solution to fix it ?
Sorry if this has been already discussed. I just couldnt find anything. Hence .. this post.
Many thanks,
Samsung locked it down
no way to make it work anymore ?
Yeah same on my device too.
I also tried uninstalling samsung pay through adb.
Google pay still doesnt appear. anybody finds a solution please post it here.
Might be an error with the current watch softawre (DOJA) in my case. Lets see if future updates solves it. But i doubt it.
Dont know why samsung insists on their software since its not supported here. Lets see them also allow google assistant as well so we can take full experience on this wearos watch.
Anybody finds any solution to google pay to reappear on default apps please post here.
Have a read through this post. I've done it on mine and now when I long press the bottom button G Pay opens instead of Samsung Pay.
Override hardware keys?
On Galaxy phones, the Bixby button can be overrided completely to allow for a number of customizations using 3rd party apps and ADB. Is there potential for this to work on GW4 for the Samsung Pay and Bixby shortcuts? I'd love to be able to use...
forum.xda-developers.com
i managed to sideload the google pay app and managed to configure it however whenever i reboot the watch the icon just vanishes . can you kindly advices if there is any workaround it please ?
i doubt the gpay works if its not selected as default payment app
I am facing the exact same issue. Google Pay is supported in my region but when I open the app it asks me to make it default for payments. In the NFC settings I only see the Samsung Pay app. I also uninstalled Samsung Pay through adb but GPay still asks to make it default and it is not opening.
I guess it has to do with the region the firmware was designed for (Samsung Pay is not supported here). Not sure if I can return the watch based on the fact that they sell it here with a firmware that is meant to work on another region.
