honor kiw-l21 official android update - General Questions and Answers

I have a honor kiw-l21 phone it has build kiw-l21c432b350 on emui 4.0 android 6.0.1. the thing is i need to update the version of android, since my banking app no longer supports android versions lower than 7. i have searched your site for a version of android that is 7 or grater. is there an official version to meet my requirement. I noticed that there is is a develeper version called lineageOS 17.1 is that my only solution or is there an official one i can use.

Updates get automatically rolled out by OEM/carrier if they consider it necessary.
What you mean is to upgrade your existing Android. This is never done by OEM/carrier.
IMO to upgrade to Android version 7 or higher you have to flash a corresponding Custom ROM like LineageOS.
But I may err, as always ...

You need to use test point method that needs opening your phone's back cover and that is kinda a pain for noobs. Need some research on your phone.

Cheers, I was hoping that Honor/huawei might have brought a newer version of EMUI out, I did update it when EMUI 4 came out, that update was from android 5 to 6.

Is (was) CM and OxygenOS officially supported by OnePlus?

Hello,
i am new too oneplus one, i am bit confused. Was cyanogenmod up to version 13.1.2 officially supported by the manufacturer? Later they released an other OS called "OxygenOS" but as i can see, CM was longer supported and had more updates. And it stoped with Android 6.0.1, officially?
So the manufacturer supported 2 OS Versions officially?
Just asking, cause i want to sell my second Oneplus one and the buyer wants an official stock rom. Right now i have it on the latest (supported?) CM 13.1.2.

You're better off with cos13.1.2,just sell your device. And tell him to check XDA if he decides to upgrade to Nougat unofficially.
But is it an official OS which (was) supported by the manufacturer?
Yes, the OPO shipped with COS and got official support and updates up to COS 13.1.2. The software support was up to Cyanogen inc which has now shut down (I mean check the bottom back part of your phone and you'll see the branding).

Newer devices don't have the branding.
OnePlus one sets sold in China came with Color OS instead of CyanogenMod. So these sets did not have the CyanogenMod brand name at the back.
Just install CyanogenOS (not CyanogenMOD). It was officially supported by the manufacturer.
6.0.1 to 7.1.2
My OnePlus One was bought recently with Android 6.0.1 and Cyanogen OS version 13.1-ZNH2KAS1kN. I have rooted it and have been searching for some time to see if there are prerequisites involved before flashing a current ROM (7.1)? One other devices there are upgrade processes but for the life of me cannot find any threads on this subject....

I have been reading Heisenbergs threads for hours, I used his method for rooting but still do not see an answer to my question in them. I just installed [ROM][LineageOS][Android 6.0.1] TugaPower M104.0 and now I have a blank screen guess I'll go back to factory image then...

Hello. I prefer using magisk over SU. And I just wrote up a guide a few days back on how to do that (as long as your running Android Oreo/EMUI 8.

That's tough to answer.....it's all a manner of opinion really. I had slightly better SOT though in emui 5 (since its running Android Nougat) where as emui 8 us Android Oreo. Truthfully I flashed an AOSP ROM after I upgraded to emui 8 because once you go to emui 8 / Android Oreo, it enables treble support. I'm not a big fan of emui in the first place though. However, the AOSP ROM's are newer so they are still wip when it comes to working 100% for the huawei mate 9.
May I ask what custom ROM you are using? And how do you find it? What's your SOT?

Download firmware from http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/ (if available) and unpack update.app from update.zip
Open update.app in Huawei Update Extractor and extract ramdisk.img, this is the boot image file that magisk manager needs to patch.

Okay... Sorry for the delay.
You'll obviously have to go back to stock first. And then hisuite should work to upgrade to Oreo. Just trying to think what the best way to return to stock would be for your model version and get you upgraded to Oreo.
i see this requires Microsoft Windows. i only have Linux. any suggestions?

Too late... unless you've got a bootloader unlock code before July 24. Did you? I'll guess not, hence...no root for you, enjoy GPU Turbo and Pie (whenever that comes).

Are there any Roms based on old Android (jellybean, kitkat, etc) that are still updated?

I just like the old simple style of older android verisons. I only text, call and browse via mobile web browser on my phone so I don't need much in terms of apps. Is it even possible to run such old android version anymore? Is there a rom of an older version that is still maintained?
With regards to non-Google devices updates get provided by OEM/carrier, if ever. Hence ask OEM/carrier this question.
IMHO there is no need to upgrade your mobile if the apps you run don't require a higher Android version.

I still have a S4+ on Kitkat, don't use it but the OS operates fine except for gmaps which probably more a needed OS reload issue.
Lol, gmaps never runs "fine".

Harmony Os

My device is mate 30 pro model LIO-L29,i can't install Harmony Os
Please help me,thank you so much
same here, i think Huawei has not released that for global variant yet
correct, there is no global rom out yet
I tried a few things to get my Mate 30 Pro to update to harmonry, but nothing worked. I tried putting my region to China and connecting to a Chinese VPN..nope. I tried logging into my other Huawei account that China was set as the default region. Again, no go. Sucks that they don't just release the full firmware online. Oh well, just got to wait.
hi guys, any luck?
The harmony os is only now developed for the Chinese variant LIO-AL00C00/C01 only. So you guys with LIO-L29 should , unfortunately, wait.
Chờ đợi là hạnh phúc
If you want to install harmong os,you can not to use Gapps
Most Of Huawei's devices in China are also built into the harmony Os,so,wait.

Well it seems like the version 2.0 of harmony os still can use existing gms but cannot install a new one.
I don't know whether Huawei will open harmong os overseas, now huawei OS in China is HMS

Well if Huawei did not open harmony os overseas, all Huawei phones, will be forced to stay on Android 10, which is already two years old and will stop receiving any security updates altogether after September 2022.
EMUI 12, if ever released, will still stick on android 10 as Huawei is banned from android 11 and onwards.
So we will wait until September 2022, and maybe Huawei will release harmony os (3.0) to global, and maybe someone can figure out how to install GMS on it. (Or all Huawei phones will be literally discontinued completely on the software side in global, who knows what will happen?)
I have a Chinese model with harmony os, and I would so rather have base Android 10. The new updates on harmony 2.0 are extremely limiting, and made everything a carbon copy of the iPhone. It's like having an iPhone, with maybe a quarter of the functionality.. Just enjoy your Android experience.. The grass isn't always greener.

Actually, you can upgrade to hs2.0 by converting your global version to chinese verison. But it is not recommended and it is not an "official" way.

Huawei Honor 6x update to Android 10

I would like to update my Huawei Honor 6x to Android 10 but from the updates I don't have any recent available just the current version which is Android 7 that is not compatible with many apps
In order to upgrade your mobile phone system to the latest version, you may try to download & install the official Android Smart Device Manager tool, HiSuite, from the Huawei website. Hope it will be helpful for your Honor 6x.
Can I update from hisuite using a laptop ?
What you want to achieve is to UPGRADE the existing Android OS what can't be done by means of Hisuite tool.

Yes to update to Android version 10
From settings and system update I get no update available.
You are highly recommended to carefully read posts: Update is a patch to an existing OS, upgrade is a replacement of an existing OS with a newer version.
