Hi,
I am facing 2 problems with my new OPPO Find X2 Pro.
The first problem is related to the built-in OPPO SMS app which I do not like. I installed a 3rd party SMS app called Textra and I love it. However, the problem is that I am not able to disable the OPPO SMS app, which automatically keeps setting itself as the default SMS app without my permission! No mater how many times I set Textra as the default SMS app, the phone keeps changing the default app to OPPO SMS app without giving me the option to refuse that!! It just give me a hint that it has changed the default SMS app!
The second problem is related to 3rd party alarm apps. I tried so many 3rd party alarms but all of them do not ring the alarms no mater to what time I set the alarms to! It seems like if OPPO closes those alarm apps in the background and maybe that is why the alarms never ring! Only the built-in OPPO alarm works. I tried all those 3rd party alarms in different phones (Samsung, Sony and HTC) and they work just fine, but never not work in my Find X2 Pro.
Any idea how to solve those problems?
My oppp has stock android sms app which is the best imo. Being able to use wifi if you and other person has chat features enable in the settings.

I am not asking for opinions on the stock SMS app or providing information on its features, I am asking for help on how to replace it. Thanks
So I managed to solve the problem of 3rd party alarm app. But setting 3rd party SMS app is driving me crazy! Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am some times involved in group messages with my friends(all iphone users).
I like the stock messaging app, and I have hated all 3rd party apps that i have tried(gosms and handcent).
My question is: Is there anyway I can retain the stock messaging app as default, but am still able to use another third party app to view and reply to these group mms? With my limited experience so far, handcent and gosms both require their apps to be the default app to work. I would rather much avoid this.
or can someone suggest me another app that will allow me to read and reply to my friends group messaging as seamlessly as they can?

You should be able to use other messaging apps, and still keep the stock as your default. Same with the browser, there is a stock browser, but you can use another one as a default (i use chrome). depending on the rom, there may be a setting for app association.

well, thats why im askin a question. gosms and handcent both require themselves to be set as default apps to even enable group messaging to work. both of those apps are crappy enough that i dont want them set as default.
and there doesnt seem to be a way that those apps can thread my messages together AFTER i have received em. they have to be set to default before receiving group mms
You can try groupme, its an app strictly for group messaging and you don't have to use it as a stock messenger.
I just looked at the way GroupMe does things.... blech. it's amazing to me that NO one has implemented a good third-party solution to the group messaging thing. Apple is so often behind the times on new features, but they implemented group SMS YEARS ago at this point.
As for a stock SMS replacement, I like ChompSMS. I agree that Handcent and GoSMS are both... not good. Chomp is a clean interface. still doesn't do group SMS though, so if you like the stock Messaging app for normal SMS then I guess stick with it.

yea i hate apple, but their emojis and group messaging are the only things i like.
i have emojies, but theyre no where near as clean and easy to use as the iphone. and somebody will make lots of money if they can finally come up with something that will seamlessly integrate android to ios group messaging.
Maybe think of switching to AOSP? Group messaging is default

Hi guys,
So it's been a few days that I try to make Hangouts SMS work but it is still not working...
I'm on MIUI and have a Meizu MX2.
I tried uninstalling/installing Hangouts , disabling stock SMS app, notification is enabled in Hangouts and I don't have any other messaging app apart from Facebook messenger but I doubt since it doesn't do SMS.
Anyway, I know that a lot of people have asked similar question but nothing worked for me, maybe it is because I am using MIUI but I read that people didn't have any trouble using Hangouts on MIUI...
Same problem here. Delete and re add your google account. It worked for me.

Thanks for the answer but I already tried this, moreover the problem is the same with other third party sms apps...
Anyone ??
Greetings,
I have this app called "Messaging 7" (from app store) which if you are aware, is really an awesome windows messaging app. I like its simplicity and have used it before kitkat update.
The problem is, im currently running kitkat in my HTC device and it's annoying that I cannot set it as default sms app. Therefore, everytime I receive a new text message, it will not mark as read until I open it on the device's default sms app. Kinda annoying, I can disable the notification from other sms app, but again, I need to figure out how to set the Messaging 7 app as default.
It is observed that the developer of the said sms app no longer works in it. So I'm thinking that there maybe a work around or solution with this since the app was created before kitkat update. Some other updated SMS apps i have tried to install appears on the selection for default app (from settings) and so I guess there's just need somthing to modify in it?
Any help will be very much appreciated. I really want this messaging app. :good::highfive:

put application in system/app with name mms.apk, and first backup original sms aplication (mms.apk)
Well, I haven't seen anything about this here, (my search-fu might not be polling the right keywords) but this is bad news ya'll. The more that I research into this, the more that I see that Samsung chose to remove this feature. It is available on other Oreo devices (not Samsung's though, s8 s8+ users are affected after oreo update as well.) I tried Textra, and I can change the tone for the conversation, but that's hacky, not totally effective for group chats, and it is not sending or receiving all of my messages. I hate the single ringtone.
Anyone else frustrated by this?

(edit) general Samsung discussion, at least 3 threads as of posting were about the text tones. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/General-Discussion/bd-p/GeneralDiscussion
I'm equally annoyed by this. As many are from what I can find on other sites. Beyond me as to why Samsung decided to remove features. ? hoping for a fix soon on the native messaging app. I'll pass on 3rd party.

Are you referring to the stock SMS app? I use Chomp SMS and can change the notification sound.

Go to settings > notifications > messages and then it is by category one sound for general alerts and one for new messages you can change the sound whether it vibrates or the importance

The OP is talking about assigning a specific tone to each individual contact, so you know who's texting you without looking.
I too am not thrilled with this because I want to use the Samsung messaging application for its integration on the phone and on my s3 watch go figure text notifications don't work as smoothly on the watch when your not using the Samsung messaging application. Seems specifically due to oreo.
I beta tested the S8+ Oreo and requested this feature. They said that not all features may be included in the Beta but may show up in the final release. I was skeptical and it appears they did do away with it. It was one of my favorite features, I hope they bring it back.

I've checked out a bunch of apps, and I can custom assign tones to conversations (its not the contact that gets the tone) but that gets confusing on multicontact conversations. I setup a group sms chat with the family, but now its 1 tone for the conversation, rather than each person with their own tone. Very Frustrating. Hoping that the feature comes back.
The new android messages now allows custom conversation notifications, but it's not like the setting in contacts. But it is better than nothing and I'll keep hoping Samsung includes it in a later update.

Is this in the stock message application? How did you set it per coversation?
Just do it twice and it will set

Do what twice? There's no place in the Samsung app, or in Samsung contacts, to set a message tone.
No, only can set custom conversation tones in apps like Textra and Chomp. The stock app only uses the default text sound (or the one that is set globally)

Not sure what you mean, but I have done lots of things twice, and still no custom sms/mms tones per contact.
IT seems that Samsung might be paying attention:

So before getting a samsung and the s21u i was using huawei and in the huawei calendar app they had some nice feature where when you clicked on any date it would write how many days from today . I didn't find such thing on the samsung calendar. Is there any way to get such a calendar app or one that has similar feature since im so accustomed to it.
Is there a way to get these features/options. They are minor but have a major effect to the ease of useage. Both are stock huawei apps and i cant find similar in samsung. Is there a 3rd party app that can be used to get them.
TLDR:
For dialer, it will show you how much the caller rang for missed calls (so you would know if it was a full ring or 2 seconds)
Calendar app, when you click on any date it will show how far is that date from today
Appreciate if someone knows a 3rd party app that does this !!
