Hey there,
my wife lost her phone. So we got a Galaxy S7 from a friend.
I tried to do a factory reset from the original samsung os system settings.
It resulted in a bootloop.
So I flashed twrp-3.5.0_9-0-herolte.img.tar using odin3.
Did a "Format Data"
I downloaded lineage-17.1-20210115-microG-signed-herolte.zip and copied it on the device.
But I got the message
E: unknown command [retry_update]
Updater process ended with ERROR:7
Error installing zip file [...]

when trying to flash it.
I also tried some older builds...
Is there anything more I could do?
Or did I maybe miss something?
Thank you very much,
kws

I had to use the Wipe function on some of the other partitions (coming from Samsung stock) before Lineage 18 would boot for me. Note that this appears to have reactivated the SIM lock. If your device was originally locked to a particular carrier, you may want to be cautious if you don't have your unlock code.

try and disable MPT in TWRP > Mount, it could prevent the [retry_update] error.

I recently built CM12 for d2tmo/d2lte (Samsung Galaxy S III SGH-T999/T999L) . The build process went fine, but the installation process... not so much.
I have attempted multiple times to install it. The following message is given when the install "finishes":
detected filesystem ext4 for /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc. .1/by-name/system
(the above message repeats itself a second time)
script succeeded: result was [0.200000]

Rebooting brings me to the Samsung Galaxy S III splash screen, but nothing beyond that. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH CM11. Attempting to flash CM11 doesn't say anything about ext4, and it completes successfully. Rebooting brings you to the OS.
Device: Samsung Galaxy S III (d2tmo), TWRP 2.8.5.0.
Does anybody know anything about this message? I have searched for hours to no avail.

The message is kind of normal and not a error. Shows up on other phones, too. Seems as something went wrong with building the rom. May be you can ask HERE how they did it.

I messaged a d2att dev to see his input, but I *might* have figured out the issue. I was using a custom local_manifests XML file since I was building this off my VPS. Apparently, some of the URLs in there were broken, and were causing certain hardware components to not download. I'm recompiling right now, and I'll report back later.
Fixed. It turns out that I forgot some of the vendor drivers as I mentioned above. Silly mistake.

Hi XDADEVX,
Have you tried Samsung Kies? Last time this sort of thing happened to me, I used samsung kies plugged phone into computer and used the factory backup reset, typed in my serial number from the box my S6 Came in and boom, 30 minutes later stock rom installed, but this locked the bootloader again so had to unlock and re install a custom recovery.

You can't solve this problem. You are on 4.4.2, the bootloader on your phone is locked, and it cannot be unlocked. You cannot install CWM or any other custom recovery. Your only option is safestrap and a couple of ROMs you can flash if that is your end goal. There is a safestrap thread here in the Galaxy S3 forum. Find it and you can read up on it. For starters, you may have to flash the full 4.4.2 factory tar file in ODIN.

Use latest Odin (v3.11.1)
try another USB port
Check the model number again
Always flash the latest firmware.
or you can try smart switch -> emergency recovery.
Just calm down, reboot PC, start everything from fresh and do not hurry!
hey all
I did a basic root on my samsung galaxy s6 a few days ago. just installed superSu and gave me root access. after that I installed TWRP which I then used to try and install the xposed framework. From then on my phone is stuck on the samsung screen saying kernel is not seandroid enforcing. I downloaded the stock rom for my phone (sm-g920F on 6.01) and attempted to flash it via odin 3.07 but it always failed after the sboot.
i have searched to try and find a solution but nothing I can find will work. can anyone help?
so i got my s6 working after flashing a full stock firmware i found via a link on this forum (i forget which one...sorry)
it gave me BL_G920FXXU3DPBG_CL7086820_QB8626574_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
AP_G920FXXU3DPBG_CL7086820_QB8626574_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CP_G920FXXU3DPB6_CL7086820_QB8569466_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CSC_BTU_G920FBTU3DPB1_CL7140831_QB8460122_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
it also recommended that I flash the pit file ZEROFLTE_EUR_OPEN.pit.
this was all done via the latest version of odin. initially, the flashing failed at cm.bin so I reflashed omitting the bootloader and all seemed to be well.
My phone set up fine and then I realised that it will not recognise my sim...or any sim for that matter. in settings under sim card status...every entry is listed as unavailable. IMEI is unknown as is baseband version.
i realise that I have obviously messed up big time with the initial flashing (uhuh....backup...backup....backup) but I would really like some help to get my phone back up and running as a ...well...phone.
any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.
thanks in advance x

Try smart switch. Not sure if it could restore the imei but it could bring the phone back to original csc when you bought it.

i had tried several times to connect to smart switch but it would not recognise my phone. after a lot of faffing about I finally managed to get it to do an emergency recovery and all seems well so far. it even restored my imei number so thanks for that suggestion Rosli. much appreciated xx
