Is Android 9 Pie worth it? Still on 8.1 Aug here

I've a TA-1055 in the UK and haven't had an update since the August security patch 8.1.
I know others have the Android 9 update but I'm still waiting for the OTA to arrive. There are some features I like in the latest version but there are plenty of posts on here about problems and how to rollback to 8.1.
Like with every version if updates go smoothly and all working fine then yes updating is always recommended but Pie still seems buggy over all.
Is it worth upgrading yet?

Don't know if it is worth upgrading. I am also in UK on TA-1055 Oreo 8.1 but Oct security patch which came OTA. Still no sign of OTA update to 9 and HMD support is useless regarding info about UK versions getting it. They keep saying it takes time to roll out.

There's some problem in update which is making device more buggy so wait else your condition will be like us...

No real issues on mine, very happy with Pie.
But as this forum shows, YMMV.

No issues whatsoever on Pie, here. The only problem I have with the phone right now is that the brightness doesn't go below 16%, which isn't related to the Pie update, according to reddit.

I have an issue with camera... When taking a photo and trying to view it from within the app... the camera app just stop responding...
I did not have this issue on Oreo.

Not worth it if you like being a maybe semi newbie super user with this, because after it you'll become an iSheep.

As with any new phone I always disable most of the stock Google apps from the start. Just thought I'd re-enable the main Google app and reboot into safe mode.
Bosh! Now I get the update notification for Android 9 and ran the install plus received all the latest security updates.
Main instant issue on Pie is the search bar that cannot be removed without using a new launcher or rooting..Bugger

OTA Pie arrived on my UK TA-1055
Just to note that I got the OTA Pie update here in the UK on a TA-1055 last night. I was on 8.1.0 August before that.
It came through with the November security update, the December update came through straight after.
All seems to be working fine with no factory reset or out like that.

No issues with mine, but nothing to write home about either. Android 9.0 is meh in general. Don't stress so much about it.

I upgraded from Oreo w/ Oct SP to Pie w/ Dec SP. Is it worth the upgrade? I'll let the Pie battery stats speak for itself ? (n.b. I fully wiped /data by factory reset from recovery then restored from Google cloud backup).

Updating my P20 Pro

Hi all,
I need some help. I have not gotten OTA updates since 2018 and I really want to update my P20 pro. Currently I have the CLT-L29 running on 8.1.0.155(C636). Does anyone know the best method to manually update this phone to the latest software or am I just stuck with it? I am located in the US.

Did you try HiSuite on a PC?

And I have already installed Google services on my P40 pro
My question if I update to this new version can I still using my Google services or it will be not working any more?

Install it but dont do a factory reset and everything be fine

Im updated to this software but not had gms. Is there likely to be a new workaround to add gms for these latest software versions?

Its recommended to do the GMS installation with .131 version. The installation method stopped working with the later updates. You might get an exact anaswer for .159 version if someone tries it and updates here.

I have taken the risk and installed the new update with my google service and it worked perfectly:laugh:

Not receving OTA updates

Hello,
Need help to solve OTA update.
I bought my P40 pro in Sep'2020 and installed Google in October '2020 with YouTube vedio by Redskull of Mr. Alex.
For your information that my P40 is running excellent, all banking, wallets, food ordering apps including all google apps running smoothly.
The only issue I have is that not received OTA till date after I installed GMS. My phone is on EMUI 10 and build number is 10.1.0.131 (C636E8R6P1). Is it that I have done some error on installing the GMS that restricted to get OTA update?
If possible please help me on this issue so that I can get EMUI 11 and other security updates.
Appreciate your help in this regards.

Upgrade and Gms

Hello every one who's reading this
I'm à New member and i got an issue hope that i will find the solution
I have a mate 30 pro and i was on emui 11 and in order to have gms i had to downgrade to emui 10.0.0.191 fortunately for me everything worked out fine for me and my phone
But my problèm is i can't upgrade it to emui 12 or 11 with the phone or hisuite
These are my questions :
1-What's the best way to upgrade my phone to emui 11 or 12
2-Will i lose my gms if i upgrade using that way

I can say that since updating to 12 Google is still working, no issues with sync or any of those annoying messages some have had.

Same here, bought the mate 30 pro early 2020 and installed GMS from day one...upgraded the phone up to EMUI12 and all is still working up to today. All the updates came through via OTA...
