Can't access Storage Data after update - Samsung Galaxy S10e Questions & Answers

Hi community!
Just installed the Samsung UI 3.0 Update.
One UI: 3.0, Android 11, Security Patch Jan 21.
Not rooted, stock Samsung-Android from Germany.
The update seems to have messed up some permissions, I can't access the Folder on "storage/<xxxx-xxxx>/Android/data" anymore. The SD card itself works fine, just the file explorer, and some apps that manually read/write data in there won't get access. How can I change it, or CAN I change the permissions without root?
Thanks for your help.
Edit: The app Podcast Addict stores the files in data. In data on the internal or external sd-card, neither can be accessed. The App works. But I regularly copy files manually into a virtual podcast which also are in data. Can't do that atm.

It's totally normal under Android 11. You need to connect your phone on a PC to access this folder.

I see, then Samsungs permission mangement up to this patch was more lax than stocks Android? I found a workaround for my specific usecase. But I still miss being able to access the podcast files via apps like wifi file explorer. I never connect the phone physically to a PC.

[Q] Google Book App Broken after rooting Xoom WiFi

I followed the instructions posted in and successfully Rooted and updated the Kernel on my WiFi Xoom. but today when showing it to a co worker we found out the google books app wasn't functioning.
I tried replacing it from the market by logging into the web page after the market app would not find it and it will not let me put it on the Xoom. I then downloaded the WiFi dump that was made hoping to sideload the app and it says it's already installed. i tried uninstalling and it says it failed to uninstall.
So would anyone have any other ideas in getting the app reinstalled?
get root explorer, delete books from system/apps
Then use root explorer to place books from the dump zip into system/app
Once placed, check the permissions and make sure they are the same as the rest of the apps. Reboot
Didn't see your post in time i ended up doing a wipe and reinstall.
I have this problem also...is there another way to do it without root explorer? sftp or ssh?

Yes bigworm, there are other apps out there that allow you to drill down into the system partition (not sftp) as long as you have you root you can use most types of terminal or files system tools.

App to Prevent App Installation

Guys,
Does anyone know of a software package for windows or even an app for the android that will basically lock down the phone so no apps can be installed unless there is a password entered (by I.T. Administrator etc)? We are trying to rollout android phones but would like to limit app installation.
Thanks
Yeah sure remove the VENDING.apk in the system/app folder, root permission is needed for this though, I use a program called root explorer, and this will remove the android market from the phone/tablet.
But there would still be other ways to install apps, that would be just removing the most obvious

PMID920 Root/Gapps Guide

OK I think I have a fairly foolproof method since I got root and Google Apps.
1. Download this automatic driver installer from adbdriver .com
2. Plug in the tablet via the USB cable (with debugging and unknown sources on) and open the automated installer
3. Select PMID920 and install the drivers
4. Download Kingo root
5. Then transfer an apk of root explorer, supersu, and copy the system folder of Jelly Bean 130812-13 GAPPs onto the tablet
6. Install supersu and root explorer using the built in Explorer app
7. Now go on kingo and click root again.
8. Open SuperSU and install binaries.
9. Open root explorer and allow root then go to / directory and set to R/W
10. This is where I and others got stuck. Go to sdcard and find the system folder you copied and open it
11. Use root explorer's multi-select feature to select the folder in system and copy them to your system folder
12. Reboot and it should work if it did great
13. If not you'll have to do what I did which is check the folders in system and you may notice they look like this /system/app then another app folder in there with the files
14. Manually go into all of the folders and delete any duplicate folder i.e if you open the lib folder and see another lib folder delete it and so on
15. Go to your SD card and use multi-select with select all and carefully copy all the files to the corresponding system directories then verify they all are correctly copied with none in the wrong place or missing (yes this does suck )
16. Reboot and you should be prompted to sign into google. Enjoy
Realize I am not responsible for any screwed up tablets and recommend you do this on Win 7 like I did. Also I cant post links yet.
If you get an error about insecure connection try these (not mine) View attachment usb_DRV_MODED.zip
HI, so i am working on getting this very Polaroid tablet to work with the aid of your direction and i have gotten as far as step 5. sort of.. when i use Kingo root i continuously tells me that my device is unstable. debugging mode is activated and so is the installation of from unknown sources... have i missed something? i would really love to have google play services on this tablet but this is becoming rather annoying being defied by such a tablet... please help.
Hmm if it is a driver issue due to some error in installing the drivers then go to device manager and uninstall the device and check the box. Then try to install the drivers I will add to the main post (not mine) you will have to install them without a signature. Also what os, cable, and kingo root are you using.
Lets start with saying that im pretty uber noob at this so idk what os im using. or what os is... cable is a usb micro the only cable that goes into the pmid920. as far as kingo root, i went to kingoapp.com and clicked into download, and that was it, downloaded the package and tried to use it..
Try the new drivers
An Operating System is like Windows, Macintosh, Ubuntu etc. Did you try the new drivers Just uninstall the old drivers by right clicking on the device and check the uninstall driver box. Then unplug and replug the cable then chose own drivers and go to the extracted folder I put in the main post.
ok so maybe im a little smarter than i had thought... im doing the work on the tablet with a windows 7 laptop because during the first couple steps my windows 8 laptop was not compatable. however, i have uninstalled the drivers and then put in the drivers from the zip file you linked in, however now kingo root is telling me that the connection is unstable.. what do now? also im really sorry for having to bug you about this alot. seems rather annoying
Hello! I am stuck on step 8. When I open SuperSU, it says "The SU binary need to be updated. Continue?". I hit continue.
Then it asks "If you have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM, that can be used to (try to) install the SU binary. This is recommended for HTC devices. How would you like to install the SU binary?" Normal or TWRP/CWM. I hit Normal.
Then it says "Installation failed !" and closes the app.
I am using SuperSU version 1.69.
Please help with this part.
Thanks.
Alright for the su binary I forgot but I think you have to click unroot reboot then root it again using kingo root. As far as the unstable connection error I have read and it may be some type of bug with kingo. Remember windows 7 and try both sets of drivers.
i did try the sets of drivers. With the first set when i used kingo root it told me that the device its self was unstable, and then when i tried the 2nd set it was able to accept the device but not the conection, it would tell me that the connection was unstable, and using several different ports on the laptop (windows 7) it would still say the connection was unstable.. do you know of another good rooting tool that would allow me to use either windows 7 or 8?
Well...
I'm sorry but this is as far as my knowledge extends.
Try this http://lmgtfy.com/?q=unstable+connection+kingo+root#

I was able to get it to root and install gapps! I'm not sure exactly why it worked though. First SuperSU was updated and then I tried Kingo root again but this time I mounted the sd card on the tablet first. Then after it rebooted, I was able to get R/W access to the root folder and transfer all the new files over. After a nail-biteingly long reboot, it had me sing in to google and now I have google play and can sign in to youtube. So I am not sure it worked because of the updated SuperSU or mounting the SD card first the made the difference. But thanks all the same Beutrocks! You're awesome!:good:
system folder size limit
Has anyone gotten a problem with the amount of space allowed in root/system? Everything up until you have to copy the gapps system folder over worked for me, but when trying to copy over the gapps system folder, explorer says there is not enough room. The space available is a couple MB and obviously the gapps system folder is about 150 MB. Has anyone else had this issue, or know how to readjust the size that root/system allows? I'm new to rooting.
The GAPPs I got was 100-120

Try to make sure that folderception didn't occur; It happened to me and yes I was mad. You can check by going to /system/apps and if there is another apps folder delete it. Do this for all of the folders that copied wrong for example /system/libs/libs. Then manually recopy all of the files.
Can you clarify?

1. Download driver - to laptop I assume?
2. Open the automated installer - on the laptop or on the tablet?
3. Select PMID920 - From where? It doesn't come up anywhere.
4. Download Kingo root from where and to where? On the laptop or on the tablet?
5. Transfer an apk of root explorer - from where to where
6. Install supersu... - how, where?
7. Go on Kingo - Where? Web, laptop, tablet?
8. Open Supesu - How? Where?
Please clarify exactly how this can be done for us neophytes.
Fantastic. Thanks beutrocks. Step 14 is what had me hung up. I am up and running now on my friend's tablet. Awesome!
You download then install the drivers then pmid920 should show up. If on windows 8 you must boot into unsigned driver mode.

Hey so I'm thinking about biting the bullet to finally trying to root & update this pmid920 to google play. But I guess I'm a little worried as this fellow messed his up & couldn't put stock fw back on it. http://www.FreakTab.com/showthread.php?t=11960 or if I just wanted to keep it simple should I just root & sideload apps to it? Or what do u think this fellow did wrong to totally mess it up? I just wanna keep it simple to let kids have some games on it & me to bs on it n such. Thanks in advance Ron.

Hey bud so I hope u had a great holiday & I just wanted to let u know that I did manage to root & get google play following this XDA post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588991 but I used a apk app called iroot to root device. It installed & I opened app then made one click & I was rooted. The only thing is that it installed some Chinese version of super user & in order to get the regular SuperSU app to work that I downloaded I had to unroot reboot & rwroot. Weird but it worked. But now I'm wondering since there is no development or filmware available for this thing is it possible to install twrp or cwm or even philz touch recovery on this & maybe even tweek it? Well thanks in advance & have a great day!

[Q]-Is it safe to update if rooted?

I've got an Nvidia Note and the Shield. I noticed the Note has been mentioning an OTA update which likely means my Shield is due for it also. Since both are rooted, is it okay to update or will I wind up losing root?
I noticed on the front end that updating the shield OTA is playing hell with the SD cards. I don't have one in there yet but does the new OTA force you into having a root priv. file browser like root explorer?

I don't know about the Note, but you will lose root by updating the Shield. I had no problems re-rooting it though (I rooted mine by loading CWM Recovery through fastboot and installing SuperSU from there; I don't know if the insecure boot method still works).
The Shield's latest OTA brings KitKat which restricts write privileges to external SD cards. If I'm understanding it correctly, it lets an app write to its own folder on the card, but no where else. This breaks general access apps like file explorers. To get around that, there's an app on the Google Play store called SDFix which removes these restrictions (requires root since it modifies system files).

You did an adb push type thing in recovery or just flashed an su.zip type thing?
I didn't ADB push. I booted CWM recovery through fastboot (didn't flash it, I didn't want to bother removing it for future updates), chose the "choose zip from external sd" option, and installed this from my external SD card. I did have to hit the Play Store and download the SuperSU app from there as well, but it worked.
This post here is pretty much what I did minus the flashing part.

I had read about KitKat breaking file explorers but honestly I didn't notice it make any changes to mine, think I'm using File Explorer Pro or something but it still lets me make dirs on SD, move/copy stuff, extract files, etc so not sure exactly what it was supposed to break? I'm not rooted either nor know how to do so yet :/

Thanks all. I'll pull down the OTA soon and see if I can recover root. I noticed OTA Rootkeeper wasn't thrilled because my shield has SuperSU and not superuser. Even though the app mentions being ok with SuperSU, it doesn't want to move along.
I rooted my Sheild by unlocking bootloader, then pushing the image with adb. I updated to Android 4.4 and root was gone, however bootloader remained unlocked. I pushed the image again and all is well. So go ahead and update!

[Q] Root / SuperSU issues, only mostly rooted?

I'm having some random issues with root on my phone... For the most part, my phone seems rooted. I can access most files and folders, removed bloatware system apps, and LuckyPatcher and other root-only apps seem to work well.
My problem is that some apps don't! GameCHI gives me the message "ERROR!!! The system deny to ROOT" for some reason. I've also noticed ES File Explorer will not allow me to paste files in, or remove files from the SYSTEM folder, returning a message that it is read only. Even in recovery mode, it will not let me mess with my system folder, like changing my boot animation, which I used to be able to do. I'm using all updated apps, just updated my SuperSU to 2.14. I enabled root on ES File Explorer and checked all options but system keeps disabling itself. Sometimes I manage to paste something in, but then can never remove it!
Help?
anybody?
