I bought this thing a while ago when I was a post-paid Verizon customer. I moved the sim from my Mifi hotspot to it and it was working fine as an LTE router with an ethernet connection (was not using any of its SmartHub features). I moved my service off of Verizon and tried setting up a prepaid account for it, but it doesn't seem to be compatible (by registering my mifi as prepaid and moving the sim over).
Now every time I try to go to the admin page, I get redirected to Verizon to sign up for service. Does anyone know if there is any custom firmware for this device so it can go back as acting like an LTE router?
So it's been a year - anyone have any ideas if this router can be hacked?

I am a AT&T prepaid user. Can I use the Atrix 4G in it without data plan? I only use Wi-Fi which is much faster.
The AT&T shop assistant man told me that I will not be able to use it if I do not open any date plan. If I am a prepaid user I can not use the phone; If I am a postpaid user I will be notified to add a data plan after I insert the SIM card into the Atrix 4G which is a smartphone.
Currently I also use a smartphone in AT&T network and does not commit any data plan. The phone works great. The shop assistant said the reason is that Atrix 4G is a AT&T phone and will be recognized by AT&T and force to open a data plan.
I do not know whether I should believe him for may be he is just trying to sell me more expensive plans. Is it technically possible to ban prepaid users? Is there any way to avoid this restriction? Since the Atrix 4G smartphone is bought in full price and unlocked, I do not owe AT&T anything. It works in T-Mobile, but does not works in AT&T prepaid, which seems very rediculous.
You may use any phone smartphone that its not ATT branded.
But if the phone is a ATT branded they do detect it using the imei and force you to add the expensive data plan. You may run a few months without been detected, but sooner or later they find out and force you to change plan.
I know this for fact because a used to use a Xperia X1 that came unlock from other carrier on ATT, and they never force me to change plan, but as soon as I started using an Iphone on the network a few weeks later I got a txt msg telling me they detected a smartphone without data plan, and automatically added the data plan.
You can modify in Setting-->Wireless&network-->mobile network-->Access point name. After that, you can set user name, add, pass follow your mobile's network service. Good luck.
have beeen using a atrix since march and have had a iphone since 2g on att using my sim with no data plan. just put the sim in and off you go almost 5 yrs now, and no forced data plan.
I have to say, after 8 Android phone, I found my favorite. I have an issue now tho. I was with Att for years but I just switched to TMobile to help out a family member. Att gets much better service in my area. I know I can unlock, root and what not but is there a way to connect to an Att tower with my TMobile Sim, maybe force it to roam? I'm willing to only be able to get 2g but still receive text and calls. I'm on campus 9 hours a day with very bad TMobile service while Att is fine. My network on campus blocks wifi calling thru the routers so that will not work. Any ideas?
They should allow roaming. I am gonna subscribe to this because my Droid 3 only gets T-Mobile 2G and roaming off of AT&T 3G would have its advantages.

If there is any t-mobile service at all, then I doubt that you'll be allowed to roam on AT&T towers, have you tried connecting the phone to a computer that is connected to the internet, then enabling "internet pass-through" I think it should allow you to use the internet for calls, unless the computer is connected to a dhcp server with the same wifi call blocks..

I tried this already with no luck. The entire network on campus has ACL's
set up to block all wifi calling, such as skype. This included tmobiles wifi calling. I can see the ATT network when i manually search but it will obviously not connect. I guess I will try and unlock and root then attempt this again. I am just thinking it has something to do with the sim card itself?? Anyone ever tried this before?

Wow a school that blocks Skype? Not sure if that's worse than D/L speeds of .6mbps or what haha
Since Sept 2012 I've been enjoying non smartphone data plan on my N8000. Starting Feb 1st I've been receiving text from AT&T that laptop, tablet or MiFi devices requiring eligible data plan. Has anyone gotten similar text or is it just me? I remember a few days prior I deleted the proxy setting on the medianet APN. Does that have something to do with it?

Sounds like they've updated their database of device IMEI numbers and now capture your device's identity as a tablet. I don't know what you were paying but maybe Straight Talk is a viable alternative for you. Straigh Talk's GSM srvice uses AT&T and TMobile so you should still be able to get AT&T service If you order their SIM from Straight Talk.
The sims card on straight talk work for att and T-Mobile but run off of T-Mobile towers not att already been down that road
Ok. So I had Verizon postpaid account and my unlocked I705 was on it. Then I ditched Verizon but had to go with their prepaid for my tablet, which, since it was modded, continued to use their LTE network, which is not even available on prepaid. Then I flashed a boot image which when I rebooted put my tab into a loop. So natuarally I ended up reflashing MrHyde's ROM and restoring my apps, but this caused me to lose my 4G service since I was now kicked down to prepaid's 3G. Being unaware of this I called Verizon to ask why my tab was connected but not on 4G, or on 3G either for that matter. I was told my tablet would never be allowed on their prepaid network now since I had unlocked it. Oops. My question is, if I get the tab back on a postpaid account, will that get the LTE connection back so that I can then get back on a prepaid account using the LTE Network? The guy seemed to quiet right down when I told him that is what I was going to do, lol. I don't think they can stop it. Anyway, fyi, the I705 will work on Verizons LTE network while on a prepaid account if its been unlocked.
I went to the cricket store today and I am thinking of switching to cricket from Tmobile since cricket now uses AT&Ts network. and Tmobile sux! in my area at least. the ONLY thing keeping from making the immediate switch is the salesperson telling me Hotspots are not supported by their plans. I looked in their phone settings and they removed the hotspot option in the settings as well.
So my question is, anyone have a cricket phone with one of their NEW plans (GSM phone) and rooted it, to get the hotspot back, and does it work? is cricket able to tell and shut it down? I'm just wondering if its only a software thing that they removed the hotspot in the OS or if it has some sort of network detection to shut off Hotspots.
Thanks all!
is bumping allowed? lol
