Google Messages RCS Trick - General Topics

Hello All!
My Samsung phone was not receiving RCS on the google messages app, despite google confirming rollout in most of the world. I suspect that my cell provider Lucky Mobile might have something to do with it, as it is one of the few carriers in Canada that does not provide RCS services. In an effort to activate it on my phone, I found a trick that I believe has not been posted yet. I tested this out on an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S10 running android 10 One UI 2.5, an unrooted Samsung Galaxy A50 running Android 10 One UI 2, and an Unrooted Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite running Android 11 One UI 3. These are all Samsung devices, so it may not work on other phones, but I have no way of testing that. The steps I took are below
On the Google Play Store, install Carrier Services from Google
Still on the Play Store, Install Google Messages
Open Google Messages and set it as the default messaging app
In the Messages app, open settings and check to see if chat features are available, they were not for me, but it is a good idea to check
Keep the Messages app open in the background but switch back to the Play Store and uninstall Carrier Services
Re-open the Messages App, then exit and close it from the Recents menu, and then open it again
You should now get a pop-up saying that you can use chat features, if not, then it should be available in the chat features section in settings
That’s it! I’m not sure how useful this will be to others, considering that my issue is something most people wont have, but I thought that someone might be looking for a way of activating RCS on their phone, with similar results that I had until now. I would also appreciate if people with phones from different companies (e.g. Google, Xiaomi, OnePlus) could try it out to see if it only works with Samsung phones or other companies’ phones as well.
Edit: You can join the Messages Beta program if you want after the steps are complete, as it keeps RCS enabled. Not sure why but I am not complaining
(P.S. This is my first post on XDA so I'm not sure if this is best format to post this, or the right place to post this in)

No luck for pixel 4 xl on Android 12

No way to search local device after ICS update on my GT+. Any work arounds or third-p

I got the ICS update on my Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus and now Google Search does not return results from the local device and Searchable Items is no longer an option in the Google Search settings menu. So now I can't search for contacts, music, apps etc except by going to those individual apps. This is highly annoying. I've read I can root and sideload Google Now but voice search isn't working on it yet.
I know this is specifically a Samsung thing as my HOS still has it as do all my other android devices. The Google Search app in the Play store still allows local device searching but I can't download it (incompatible device?!?!)
Are there any third party apps that can get this functionality back?
Are any work arounds available?
Just wait a little

I think they are updating most of the apps for the latest ICS firmware, a few days ago Ebooks app was disabled and this morning I got an update from Play Store (previously it was saying that was not compatible in my country) and TA-DA!, it's working now.
I recommend you to wait a little, maybe a few days....
If you can get the apk, you could side load it, most apps work with our devices even if the play store won't let you download it. You may even be able to get it from the Amazon app store

Android 4.4: Reverting to google talk from hangout

Any way to revert to the google talk app from google hangout in 4.4?
there are some methods works in android 4.3, but it can't work in 4.4..
I tried to manually install the gtalk apk, but it won't install.
I have installed google talk into android 4.4, but it can't login
I have installed google talk into android 4.4, but it can't login. it seems that the google talk can't access to the network.
Anyone else have any success with this? I don't have the patience to downgrade to hangouts...

probably cant connect to the network because its old and not supported anymore. I would say install on 4.3 rom, but thats not possible for the n5. so unfortunately, your stuck with hangouts
Anyway to install the original mms.apk?

I really hate the hangouts integration with SMS is so annoying, and hangouts is really dull anyway, the BBM app seems far better for chatting on, anyone agree?

Get the mms.apk from the N4 (4.3). On the N5 (rooted), rename mms.apk to mms.apk.bak (Root Explorer recommended), copy mms.apk from N4 over, set permissions and reboot.

we need someone to modd the good old GTalk app to work again in android 4.4 and if it could be installed in data it will be greath... because there ar some unrooted users who want to get back GTalk
dose sombody knows how can we ask a dev on this site to help us with this problem?

Google has moved on. It's time to accept the inevitable. You're stuck with Hangouts.

same problem here
any solution pllz
i think the problem it is with the Google Play Service and Google Play because i downgraded from 4.4 to 4.3 install the gapps, Talk worked... but after a while after thos two has updatedand after that i cant login... went to Settings--> Apps and uninstal the update of this two and... let the factory ones.. and it worked!
but after some hours.. they update themelf and Talk stop loging again
I think i have a solution.. but i cant test it because i am not on 4.4 anymore... so here ar the steps:
1. copy the Google Play Service and Google Play from 4.2 ( or 4.3 ...anyway a older version) gapps and use a your favorite root Explorer to put them into System-->App and set the Permision..
2 go to Data-->app and delete the update from this two...
3 Restart.. and see what happen.. GTalk its working?
Important... make sure that in Settings --> Apps you dont see any Google Service or Google play so that the one who ar actives ar the older version!
can someone test this?

Ok, so I don't think this is quite the right attitude here. Android is (was?) all about customizability, right? That's really it's big selling point over iOS, as far as I'm concerned. The Hangouts application removes several distinct functions that were available in gTalk:
1)From the main screen, where ongoing conversations are listed, you cannot tell if a contact is online
2)if you swipe into the screen to start a new conversation, you can see if a user is online, but not if they are away/idle
3)I cannot set my status to away, to be viewed as red by someone using talk on a desktop within gmail (or someone still able to use the original android Talk app), which the majority of my contacts are.
4)I cannot set my status to invisible, so that I am able to chat with one or two contacts without being interrupted by others
The fact that google has actually _removed_ this functionality makes it appear that they have no intention of adding it back in. Why have they removed these functions? What is the motivation? I have no idea. Talk was probably my most used app, so this is all incredibly frustrating.
There are third party apps (Jabber clients) that can enable functions 1-4 (such as Beejive, or Xabber) but as far as I can tell none of these apps have the capability of syncing conversations between multiple devices. For example, if I was typing to someone on talk from within gmail, and then I had to leave, but wanted to continue the conversation from my android device, talk (and Hangouts) show the entire conversation, including those messages sent from the desktop. I have not been able to find a Jabber client that has this ability.
It seems like the best bet here is modding GTalk so that we can continue to use it with android 4.4. Hopefully some kind Dev will come through and offer to help? I would love to buy that person a beer -- I know I'm not alone on this. I would be happy to pay for any app that could replace the functionality of Talk.

you're right, except when it's Google's own apps. since they control it (the app and servers), they can dictate what you can and can't do.
embrace change and figure out a way to make the current app work for you. or, continue beating your head against the wall, because nothing says sanity like trying to do the same thing over and over again with the same results.
Ok so I got GTalk to sign in on my Android 4.3.
Here are all the steps I did, and I have no idea which ones are really necessary:
1) Removed Hangouts.apk from system/app and data/app, and removed gms core from system/app
2) Flashed gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip entirely (without removing anything)
3) Uninstalled all updates of Google Play Store and Google Play Services, and disabled auto update on Google Play Store
4) Tried to sign in -> no success
5) Updated gtalks to hangouts using play store
6) Signed into Hangouts, then signed out
7) Uninstalled updates to hangouts, so it reverted back to GTalk
8) Tried to sign in on GTalk and it worked!
Hope it helps someone else!

So when I flashed Infamous ROM on my S4 did not choose "Hangouts" as part of the flashing. Once flashed stopped auto update in the play store. Still no hangouts installed. Then mounted sytems as rw with ADB and pushed Talk.apk to sytem.
Successfully logged in to Talk. Testing sending message to another Gtalk IID
Google is breaking my heart with terrible gapp updates... First maps, now talk...
I can't stand how ugly, buggy and unusable Hangouts is. It's 5 steps back 0 steps forward. What on earth are they thinking?!?
It's disappointing that Google is shoving this update down our throats and are taking measures to prevent the older, superior versions from working altogether. I would glady donate to someone if they found a way to mod Talk to a working state. I'm glad a side-load mod was found for Maps, but I fear Talk won't be as lucky.

you would be right if googles apps were open source, but they arent. Google can do whatever they want with the apps. But this is android, and you do have the option of using other apps. Its time to let go people.

Unavalible applications in Samsung Gear Apps store

Hi all,
I hope some one can advise in my question:
I can't find some applications in Samsung Gear Apps store, i 100% shure that such applications exist and available for gear s2 (for example Sleep As Android addon)
I suppose it's some restrictions for smartphone type - i use Meizu pro 5, while guys with samsung smartphones easelly can find and install it.
Maybe there is some way to make GEar app think that it installed on samsung device ?
Paid apps are not available yet in the Samsung Store for Gear S2 paired with a non-samsung smartphone. There are many threads complaining about it.

Sleep as Android addon is free app.
Paid apps are available for users of non-Samsung phones, as of several months ago (although I guess maybe some countries aren't up to date with this?).
The problem with certain apps not showing up for some people (I still can't download the Uber app, for example) seems to be that when uploading their apps to the store, developers need to activate the listing for every possible combination of phone and wearable - and some combinations, for unexplained reasons, end up being disabled. The developer of Wearable Widgets talks about this in a G+ post here: https://plus.google.com/+SterlingUdell/posts/RbswZqw8KQ5.
It might be worth contacting the developer and letting them know your specific phone and wearable, and asking them to check if they've enabled the app for that combination. If they're unable to because it's disabled by Samsung, we need to wait for Samsung to fix this ridiculous system....

Motorola XT2125-4 EdgeS Help needed

Hi,
I purchased a new phone a Motorola Edge S (hardware SKU XT2125-4), unfortunately it is a China ROM phone which means it didn't come with Google play store. This was side loaded and I am able to install apps from google. But I have SO many issues with this and I am hoping someone has something helpful to actually use this phone
1. When I try to use Google setup a nearby device (to transfer everything over to this phone), it simply can't find my new phone (despite having bluetooth and location on for both phones
2. I can't restore contacts from google drive even though I can connect
3. I downloaded the MAGISK app, however the file browser is unable to install as the app is not allowed. The toggle to trust the app can not be changed.
I am at a loss as to how to actually use this phone as essentially it's useless at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.
It is already running Android Version 11
Baseband version M55_HI20_209.334.01.60R NIO_PVT_SUPERSDS_CUST
Kernel Version 4.19.136-perf+
Build Number RRN31.Q1-20-17-6
I can provide any / all other information if needed
If the solution is to root the phone, I'm ok with that too, but see point 3.
I'm in the same situation. Purchased the XT2125 as well. Got the Google stuff working by side loading the play store, services and framework. However, initially, while everything else was working, the contacts wouldn't sync. After a few hours of searching, finally came across an article which said that I also needed to side load an apk called google contacts sync and give it permission. Contacts started syncing after that. Fast forward a couple of days and a system update later, SMS are delivered with really long delays and outbound ones fail. Google maps crashes constantly and navigation just doesn't work. I don't know what to do with this phone now honestly, since I need Google maps navigation on a regular basis. Have tried reinstalling maps, resetting permissions, clearing cache and data but nothing seems to work. And with the SMS delay, I can't sign on our complete transactions on a lot of apps because the SMS usually arrives after such a delay that the code has expired. Feels like such a waste of money this phone even though it's supposed to be great bang for the buck.
I am hopeful that when they release the Moto G100 (same phone actually), that we will be able to flash it with this ROM to make it usable.

Yeah, I think it's being released in a couple of days. Anyway, I did a factory reset and the maps issues sorted out. Had to go through the pain of sideloading google again but the device is being shown as google play certified, but yeah, would be nice to just have the international rom on it.
Were you able to make any headway with your device? I didn't put a sim in mine but the rest of it seems to be working ok, except Youtube Vanced isn't signing in with a google account.

Question Google Phone - Not Full Version?

Sooo, just got my ultra from Verizon. I noticed that Google phone does not have all the features that you can get via the play store. A lot of things are missing, even the voicemail tab. I reinstalled from Google play, same deal. Went to apk mirror and got a can't install on this device error. Is this a Samsung thing, or a Verizon thing?
Is there a port for it? One of my fav things on my Pixel was the phone features.
So Google Play allows the Google Phone app with Caller ID. However, the On Hold and Call Screening features are exclusive to the Pixels and require a specific system framework to run. Don't feel too bad, as the Pixel 6 series have had these features randomly stop working due to maintenance and updates.

I have unlocked U1 version and there is no voicemail within the phone app, I use the Samsung visual voicemail app which integrates fine. It was this way on my N20U as well. I'm on an AT&T NVMO.
