A Custom ROM for 'Moorefield' (Dell Venue 8 7840) - General Questions and Answers

First let me say; I am not a developer. I do not work in the software industry and I have no experience writing code. At home I do run a dual boot system (Kubuntu 20 & Windows10) and I have previously successfully installed LineageOS on a couple of older devices (a Dell Streak 7, Samsung Galaxy S4 and more recently a Nokia 6.2). So, I have a rough idea on how to accomplish an install if there's a clear path toward the goal lol.
I have a (rooted, unlocked) Dell Venue 8 7840 running Android 5.1 and I'd like to see if I can load a custom ROM to update to maybe Android 7. I realize a 5 year old tablet (with Intel Atom Z3580/2.3 GHz quad-core) won't likely be capable of running anything as recent as even Android 10. But this device seems to be a unicorn of sorts. That is, I can find no mention of codename 'moorefield' on any developer message board threads.
How can I support development of a custom ROM for my device? I have used ADB before and can provide copies of any files that might be needed for creation of so-called "proprietary blobs". I find it confusing and misleading that; in order to build a custom ROM someone needs to have previously written one for you device.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can proceed?

I have the same device and the same questions. Everytime I go to get rid of the device I pick it up and fall in love with it again. I still haven;t found a device that is better weight and size wise. I would love to use for a different purpose but Anroid 5.1 holds it back.

How did u rooted the device

[QUESTION]: HTC 7 Pro T7576 - 7.10.8107.79 - Unlockable?

I recently purchased a new HTC 7 Pro T7576 and am looking to unlock it to install the root tools.
I have spent several days trying to read up about unlocking prior to posting in this thread, but have not had much luck.
Based on my research, I understand that there exist several different type of unlocks. For the work I'd like to do with this device, I require that root tools are installed and understand that the INTEROP unlock would suffice for this as the tools are not native tools.
I have followed most of the instruction online with out much luck for setting up the device yet. The details of the device are:
Name: HTC 7 Pro T7576
Software: Windows Phone 7.5
OS version: 7.10.8107.79
Firmware rev number: 2250.21.51202.111
Radio software version: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Radio hardware version: A.102.0.D4
Boot loader version: 2.2.5.0
The steps I've taken thus far are to take a backup of the device using zune, download the HTC_Interop_Unlock.xap and tried to install it using XAPDeployX-v0.9.
The error message I get back is:
Deployment FAILED with the following ERROR:
Failed to connect to device as it is developer locked. For details on developer unlock, visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=195284.
Is there any luck for this device?
Thanks!
Based on some additional reading... I would require to flash the boot loader and put a custom rom.
Can anyone confirm?
After several days of research, it appears that the Interop method does not work any more.
Additionally, can someone provide some direction? I'm looking to flash but the instructions aren't clear and I don't want to brick my device.
Thanks.
Any tips from anyone? I'm trying not to avoid bricking my device.
ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
My journey for unlocking this device is still moving forward.
From additional reading, it looks like my SPL is 5.2.2.5.0 which means I must downgrade it...
The only way I see so far is with a gold card.
Given I have an OTG cable? Can I use this cable? to somehow download the bootloader?
Hi,
use this Method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1456200
This will work on my boot loader? Even with an SPL with 5.1.2.2250.0?
To close the loop, I used a goldcard image with the RUU_Gold_HTC_Europe_1.22.401.01_Radio_5.63.09.13_3a_22.36.50.15U_by_ansar.zip to create the GOLDIMG.nbh to downgrade the firmware.
Was a bit finicky, but eventually it took the update.
Next to install a custom rom...
Update: Trying to install RSPL and HSPL, but no luck
Does the DFT tool work on these devices? I've tried to go through the 126 page DFT thread (below) but no really confirmation
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
If anyone can help this would be great!
Moving right along... Got the HSPL flashed. Had to use another PC.
The original PC I used was a VMWARE workstation with Windows XP, which did not detect the device.
Used a physical Win7 Laptop, everything worked just fine.
Now onto a custom firmware....
Hmm, tried to flash Dynamics v2.0, but it needs a special radio version.
I got the radio, but not sure how to flash it, can someone help explain how to do this with RUU?
Thanks.
Hi dustbyter
are you still interested in this topic? I just did the same on my HTC 7 Pro T7576

Hello,
I have been given a HTC 7 Pro T7576, Windows Phone 7.8, OS version: 7.10.8858.136, firmware rev. no. 2250.21.51101.401, hardware rev. no. 0002, radio software version 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U, radio hardware version A.102.0.D4, Bootloader version 5.11.2250.0, chip SOC version 2.2.5.0
I love everything but the OS of this phone.
I am a total newbie at mobile OS but have 10 years experience with Slackware linux.
Please help me out with detailed instructions to replace Windows Phone with Android on HTC 7 Pro.
Thank you!

I second this. Windows Phone 7 is a dead-end street. Therefore, nobody even cooks ROMs for these phones any more (the newest ones I could find are from 2013).
That's pretty bad since otherwise, the HTC 7 Pro is a good phone - I love its keyboard as my fingers do not seem to be compatible to touch screens
It was possible to port Android to legacy devices like the HTC HD2. Wouldn't it be possible to do that for the HTC 7 Pro, too? That would be, I think, the greatest thing since sliced bread
Kind regards,

Need help installing stock OS/ROM onto unknown branded tablet.

I have a tablet that is branded by a small company, it came free with a subscription. It is a 2016 8" android tablet at v5.1.1, it starts up with their logo and apps installed.
I want to remove this and install a stock normal version of Android, I understand this is the site to find ROMs but for specific devices. Problem is I don't think this is any known device and is custom specced and built by this company.
Is there a ROM I can use for this tablet? or is there any details I can give so we can narrow down a suitable ROM?
Thanks

Updating Android 5.0 to Android 6.0 or higher on Medion E4503

I want to install special Android version: Android 9 Pie GO because it has lower requirements 512 MB of RAM . My phone has 1GB of RAM but problem is I don't see option how to do that.
My phone: Medion E4503 doesn't seem to be supported on twrp website for making recovery point first. I don't see it under devices. I heard this phone may just be rebrand of Lenovo phone (dunno which one ) but I have no way of telling which Lenovo version may work if at all. And that is just pre- install part. Then I also don't see where to find custom ROM for this device. I only see bunch of other ROMs for other phones. I have Android 5.0 and banking application now require Android 6.0+ . I do not want to buy new phone just for that because I rarely use phone at all.

Question Any custom roms avaible?

Hello and good day everyone,
I am facing alot of unfamiliar behavior because of the Chinese Rom also i can`t install the Global Rom as per the Nubia Tech support.
So i decided to root my device and install a custom rom that i can do everything i want as per my older android devices.
I looked on many sites but i didn`t find any repo i can install it on my device!
Does anyone know of Custom Rom that is support on Red Magic 7 Pro????
The device just launched globally and there isnt even a TWRP build yet.
You will need to wait quite a while, even then, this is a very niche device and might never get a custom rom.
That's unfortunate news for me!!!!
The device is one of the best I have ever used,
But the Android system they installed on it is Bull......
That's something i'm very concerned over, I wouldn't want to purchase a device that doesn't have any custom roms available , I much prefer clean stock android or pixel experience roms , it's concerning to consider this phone may be stuck with only firmware updates from the official manufacturer, I also tried looking for older models from redmagic and they also seem to have very minimal to no custom roms,
I don't trust redmagic with keeping up to date with android judging by how older models also not getting any firmware updates to android 11,12,13...
I am personally holding off from buying this phone because of this factor , likely will end up buying a different phone if something more interesting will release from a more known manufacturer with better custom development community
Actually, this device is not compatible with Twrp.
We have to wait a long time to see a custom rom.

So, a little update

Tried my luck repartitioning the tablet, increasing the system partition and reducing the userdata partition. afterwards i flashed a/b gsi's using makemesar zip in order to get them working. that did not work, had to go back to stock.
Lately, i have discovered that our tablet shares some specs with its cousin, the Mediapad T5. and T4 has an active community, more developers, more custom recovery and even a way to rebrand their tablet to their chinese counterparts. how is this rebranding important ?
well, the chinese counterparts have access to updates. huawei didnt drop support for them as it did for us. so, they got update to android 9 and then Harmony OS (which is Android 10).
So i will see if i can rebrand my tablet into a chinese counterpart and get update to android 10. afterwards i will make a guide here.
If it works it would be fantastic. Is it possible flashing the Chinese iso image
directly to the European device?
yes, thats the intended output. the chinese device has even updates to harmony os 2.0 (android 10). so far these been a few success stories and a lot of hard-breaks. so dont jump into other threads and flash stuff.
