Use OrangeFox recovery and flash that via fastboot. From there, you can flash the ROM on that version of MIUI. Kindly read the instructions on the ROM page.

Yup. However, if you are on the latest TWRP (3.5) then you can just follow the ROM instructions right away without using ofox.

[Q] How to remove colorOS

Hello,
I have a question regarding how to flash CM 11.
After unlocking the bootloader, should I install a custom recovery and flash the ROM zip from custom recovery or should I put the phone in fastboot mode and flash the rom from there (http://www.androidheadlines.com/2014/07/android-flash-oneplus-one-stock-cyanogenmod-11s.html)?
Thanks for your time!

You should download a custom recovery, personally recommend twrp. I would flash the custom ROM from the dev section in recovery, to make sure you get the most updated version.

Unable to Understand the whole custom rom flashing procedure

I have Mi 4i on MIUI v7 Stable which i recieved through OTA.
I have already rooted my device and also installed a custom recovery twrp v2.8.7.0
1. As i read in every custom rom thread i need to degrade to v5.6 / v6.6 to be able to install the rom. How should i do it..?
2.What is the way to do it as i am unable to understand threads out here as well as on MIUI forum .?
3.What are fastboot roms..?(as i read on miui forum)
4.Is there any way i can flash the older version through a zip file on my twrp recovery..?
Please help thank you..
Well, basically there are 2 types of ROM, one is recovery ROM and another is fastboot ROM. Example, u can see in this LINK http://en.miui.com/thread-135200-1-1.html
Recovery ROM flashing - You need to rename the ROM to update.zip, then flash it using STOCK RECOVERY (not twrp)
Fastboot ROM - You need to flash using miflash - shown in this tutorial http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
When u want to flash any custom ROM, u need to fastboot flash your mi 4i to lower grade, 6.6.x or 6.5.x, then install twrp, and proceed install any custom rom that u want. Directly flashing custom from mi7 using twrp will makes ur custom stuck at selecting language or didnt boot at all.
Then whts wid Global Stable Global beta Global dev...?? Y such a nomenclature..??
Whats d diff between Recovery rom and Fastboot rom..?
And as u provided the details can u help me how to fastboot flash my device to v 6.x.xx..?

Global stable is the rom that you want. Global beta and dev is usually updated in weekly basis. Its like nightly cm.

As I told you in previous post, the recovery ROM is flashed by stock recovery while fastboot ROM is flashed by miflash software through fastboot mode. Fastboot ROM has few extra items, like recovery img etc which makes it bigger. But they are technically the same with each other.

Just take stable one for now. You can then try each of the ROM easily once u get the gist how to flash ROM properly. Good luck.

Stuck at patching system image unconditionally.

I was running RR rom on my device then i wanted to change to aosp today but while flashing it got stuck at patching system image unconditionally for like an hour so i flashed the stock COS13 via fastboot.
I can flash MM based roms but no Nougat based roms (
EDIT:
I managed to fix my issue. i went back and flashed twrp 2.8.7.0 recovery and then flashed the latest firmware image. that seems to have fixed my issue. successfully flashed jgcaap's cm14.1 rom now <3
What recovery version are you using?
Re-download the zip rom and flash it again...

Why twrp is reinstall every time after custom rom installed?

When custom rom installed twrp reinstall
every time install custom rom
Why ?
Sorry for bad english....
"Go to install and browse to the zip and install the zip. The zip will install TWRP on boot partition of both slots."
I copied this from the installation guide on twrp.me for the Moto G7 Power. TWRP is installed on your boot partition. Flashing a new boot.img removes TWRP... and a custom ROM contains a boot.img...

Lineage based ROMs come with a specialized recovery now. After they are flashed TWRP recovery gets overwritten by the recovery built into the ROM. Before PIE based ROMs this wasn't an issue. I could go further but I won't.

The whole boot gets overwritten by the new boot.img, that's all. It doesn't depend on your ROM. There is no other way for a A/B device.
