New SGS 4G Won't Recognize Sim Card

Here's the deal guys,
I just got a month old Samsung Galaxy s 4G (HD7 wasnt doing it), i used the phone before i bought it because it was my friends, and it was fully functional and reading the sim (that originally came with it).
So i buy the phone and when i pop my year old HD2 sim card in it, it does not recognize the sim card.
Is this a case where i need a new sim card because the galaxy s is a 4g phone??
because i know for a fact the phone works.

get onto tmo chat and tell them your SIM stopped working. Older SIMs only allow so many activations till they die. The new ones are good to go though

Vzw S3 SIM unlock and new ROM

Hey everyone,
I hope someone can help me out with this problem. Today I moved from our old company carrier AT&T to Verizon and had to replace my GSM unlocked iP 4S. I don't like what Apple is doing at the moment so I went back to Android after couple of years (I had a HTC Desire and a GS2 back in Germany).
I read here on xda that Verizon promised an update to make the S3 global ready but we are still waiting for them to finally release it. First thing I did was putting my German Vodafone SIM in the phone but the lock wouldn't let me use it. I called Verizon Enterprise Support, explained the whole situation and asked them for an unlock code but they claimed the phone won't work in Europe and that's why I wont need a unlock code in the first place. Well I guess I wanted to try the "official" way and now I'm open for more creative approaches to solve this problem - I'm going back to Germany in 10 days and I really want to use this phone.
Is there a way to get an unlock code from Verizon or should I use a 3rd Party website? Is there something I should say or a different number to call? I tried to pull the "Hey we are a big customer and I'm the IT Ops Manager" card but it didn't help. I found a couple of websites that unlock the S3 for 10-20 bucks or so but I don't like the idea of giving someone my IMEI without checking here on xda first.
What happens if I get an unlock code and decide to root the phone and flash CM? Will I keep my unlock or do I have to do the whole process again? I really don't like TouchWiz, the S Apps and all this Verizon Bloat.Hope that someone can help me. Thanks guys.

Just spoke with Verizon Global Services Rep, who was actually really helpful. First off, any 4G phone is "sim-unlocked" by default. I have yet to prove this out, but will tonight, I have a WCDMA pre-paid sim that is still active.
Second, much like previous (major) android releases (GB - ICS last year), the Samsung JB update, should enable global phone capabilities on the Verizon SIII. We should then see the functionality enabled via the various new ROM's (built off OTA release) enabling said functionality.
Third point, which actually makes a lot of sense. He pointed out that many countries now have WCDMA networks as well as GSM, China being the obvious one. Assuming the native unlocked mode is correct, one should be able to purchase as WCDMA pre-paid sim, install and activate on the phone. Verizon Global Services will then set up a call forwarding service that directs all incoming calls to the PP sim number.
He noted that the only global services plans (discounted rates) offered by Verizon at this time are for GSM networks, meaning that even when we get the SW upgrade, roaming and call charges are going to be astronomical. A PP sim is still going to be the best option.
Anyone have any data to counter this??? Will try the sim card tonight and respond back.

Sprint Customer, T-Mobile Locked/SIM

So I'm an idiot. When I went to pre-order, I selected T-Mobile since they didn't have a Sprint option and I figured they were "merged" by now. Apparently that's not the case. I was reluctant to get the Unlocked model.
When I got the phone yesterday, I spent 4 hours on the phone (Note 8) and a worthless trip to one of the "Sprint/T-Mobile" stores. On the last call, a guy from Sprint said my IMEI number was not in the database yet -- I'm guessing because it shipped about 5 days earlier than expected. He would elevate the issue so it would and he'd call me back once it was added, then I could transfer my Sprint SIM from my Note to my T-Mobile Fold 2. He didn't call back.
The guy at the store said I'd have to call T-Mobile to get them to unlock it so I could put it on Sprint. But they won't talk to me if I don't have an account with them and that I'd have to talk to Sprint.
I want to keep my cell phone number, so now I'm wondering if I just open a new T-Mobile account and get my number ported to T-Mobile. I've been with Sprint for 22 years so I'm reluctant to do that even though they're going to be one network -- but probably not for a while.

File an FCC Complaint. It's kind of the nuclear option but in my experience when it comes to cell phone and working with wireless providers (as well as internet) that's really the only thing that seems to get them to treat the customer as a customer. Even if the phone isn't compatible that will at least get someone from the Executive Offices on the phone with you to lay out what is happening and how to fix it.
https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us
I got my phone Tmobile variant Wed paid in full and tried to unlock it in the phone settings. Didn't work. So called up Tmobile. He told me to do what i already tried. Told him it didn't work. He took my IMEI and he put me on hold. Then he came back and said to try again in 3 days and if i still can't unlock it to call back. I too think maybe it's because the phone isn't technically out yet. I'm using Fi which will only be using Tmobile anyway so i went ahead and flashed unlocked firmware. Then i downloaded the Fi app and was able transfer my number. But of course being on unlocked firmware the unlock option is now gone. So i may flash the carrier firmware this weekend and try unlocking again.
I'm currently in the same predicament. I was going to get the unlocked version but it was going to take another month to ship so I went ahead with the T-mobile version. After being unable to activate the phone, after 2+ hours working with CS the answer I finally ended up with from a T-Mobile rep (Sprint was useless) was to go into a store today and they can transfer my account over to T-Mobile and then I'd be able to activate the new one. The process will also unlock the rest of my phones so that they can accept a new SIM card from T-Mobile. Not what I wanted to do but since I can't get an unlocked version it may be the only option I have because after playing with this phone there is no way I'm getting rid of it.
Last night, I finally got my situation RESOLVED!
I went to another Sprint/T-Mobile store and found someone who knew how to transfer my Sprint account and Phone Number over to T-Mobile using the same SIM card! I chose the Magenta Plus plan -- and am even saving $20 a month for being "Over 55"! I'm now a VERY happy camper who's now getting 150Mbps downloads (so far). The Manager said he noticed the Model Number of my Z Fold 2 and thinks it was the Verizon model which may have caused some of the problems.

Sold Paid off Verizon Note 20 Ultra - New owner cannot activate it on T-Mobile

Hello,
I owned a Verizon Galaxy Note 20 Ultra that I bought shortly after release. I got bored with it, as often happens, so I paid it off in full and sold it, to someone who uses T-Mobile. They cannot activate the phone, when they put their T-Mobile SIM in it, it gives the message "SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless". The facts:
I owned and used the phone for well over the 60 day automatic unlock period.
It was active on my Verizon account for the entire time until a week before I sold it.
It was paid off IN FULL, and my account said the line was paid in full and ready for an upgrade.
My Verizon account is never behind or not paid on time (Auto-Pay)
Is there something I needed to do to the phone besides factory reset it? Is there anything that can be done? Should I call Verizon customer service? To further complicate matters, the person I sold it to lives in another state. I may need to have them send me the phone back and refund them their money if I can't figure this out.
Thank you so much for any help that can be provided.
Are you sure you used the device for 60 days?

Are you sure you used the device for 60 days? Did you check with another carrier sim before you sold the device?
SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless is a common message for all Verizon branded phones. May be buyer is confused with this message.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, it was activated in late August 2020 and was active up until the end of December 2020. No, I didn't realize I should try a different carrier's SIM first.
I asked them if they are able to call or text despite the SIM card message and they said no.
You need(ed) to request VZW to carrier (SIM) unlock the device prior to selling it.

I'm so confused, Verizon says devices are automatically unlocked in their policies listed here: https://www.verizon.com/support/device-unlocking-policy/
I'm going to call Verizon, and see if there's anything they can do.
Update: Called Verizon tech support, and the agent confirmed that the device IS unlocked. He said I should have the buyer contact T-Mobile customer service and add the device to their database. Hopefully that works.

Adding to database is a Verizon thing, Tmobile is gsm. There is no way to sim unlock it if you don't do it on your phone line and request the unlock as if you're using the phone yourself.
Verizon will not unlock it unless it's currently on the line and met the other criteria you already have. For some reason verizon can't read if its really unlocked unless it's on their network, I went through it with an iphone earlier this year. They're a mess.
damn, i thought me getting a new phone annually is bad. you get a new phone every quarter? lol, actually i was thinking about trading mine for a fold 2 but no s-pen, no exp storage and a step down camera array, i decided to keep my note and see if they fix the fold 2's shortcomings.
what's in your pocket now?
It is quite possible that the buyer was not using an existing active sim. He was probably trying to activate a new sim which failed. I had the same issue with AT&T when activating a new sim. AT&T was not recognizing Unlocked model imei and I had to use a very old phone imei for activating sim after which I was able to use the same sim with with AT&T.
It also possible the buyer is lying to you. Either way it looks like the deal is going tits up for you. Perhaps next time check with a T-Mobile SIM before selling it or sell it as verizon locked. Feel for you.
Hello, i know this is a old thread but did you find the solution? i bought a verizon note 20 ultra and it doesnt work on any carrier, just work for a minute and it stops.
You guys found a way to unlock this? I just got the same phone and its a very expensive paperweight atm

Question One UI 5 Upgrade issue

I hope you guys can help me. I should have come to you all first.
I have S22 Ultra Snapdragon Unlocked Verizon SM-S908U1 VZW/XAA/XAA
Still haven't gotten One UI 5.
Tried to get OTA not available. Tried using Smart Switch, nothing. Tried going to Verizon website. They have posted that you can use their upgrade assistant tool. Didn't work.
So I called VZ tech support. They said i should have gotten the update and transferred me to Samsung tech who had me 1st try and reset my apps. The tech told me if that didn't work to call back. Gave me a ticket number to reference.
Well, it didn't. So I call back and the 2nd tech guy didn't even want to attempt to help me. He immediately told me I had to take my phone to a service center. He told me I could go to Best Buy or U Break. At this point my head is about to explode.
I go to Best Buy. They aren't set up yet as a service center. But when I tell the guy what's up, he tells me it's probably a corrupt OS and to take it to U Break and they can fix it.
When I got to U Break, they acted like they had never worked on an unlocked phone before. I told them I wanted to be sure the flashed it with the Unlocked firmware. They looked at me like I had 2 heads. They wanted me to call Samsung clarification. So Samsung said that all the firmware was the same. That it's the carrier that locks it. So I tell U Break to flash the phone. 4 hours later U Break calls me to tell me my phone will not take the One UI 5 flash. Everything if boots, it boots to One UI 4.1. They said they could leave it that way or mark my phone as unrepairable. I call Samsung back. I get told that they will not go by the word of their authorized service center. That to replace the phone, I have to mail it to Samsung for them to inspect. If they deem it unremarkable, they'll send me a replacement. Turnaround time about 2 weeks! Meanwhile I'm without a phone, my only means of communication. Or I can pay $99 deductible and replace it under Samsung Care. A phone that I've only had since June and I just made my 4th payment on, a phone I didn't Break.
I said screw it and picked up my phone and brought it home. Naturally it was wiped.
Now for my issue. Sorry to be so long winded. Just wanted to give you guys the back story.
I start to load my phone and notice that the "code" not sure the correct term, changed from VZW/XAA/XAA to VZW/VZW/XAA. I lost one of my fonts I purchased. And my phone just doesn't seem the same.
I tried to flash the One UI 4.1 XAA OS using Odin and it didn't change anything and I still can't get One UI 5.
Is my phone now locked? What can I do at this point?
Thanks for your help
My daughter's un-rooted, unlocked S22 on Verizon hasn't gotten it yet either. The unlocked versions are generally about a week behind.
1. Only Verizon and T-Mobile branded models have gotten the Android 13 update. The U1 is Unlocked firmware and will probably take a week or so longer. The only way you'd get it now is to flash to T-Mobile or Verizon firmware, which I don't recommend because they're bloated, lack certain Samsung features, and require a wipe when switching. Also, Verizon doesn't release all of its firmwares so you'd have to flash a version of 12, then upgrade.
2. There is NOTHING wrong with your phone. An unlocked phone on VZW will show VZW/VZW/XAA. If it was showing VZW/XAA/XAA, then the CSC (carrier coding) didn't fully change when inserting the SIM card.
3. Be patient, the changes in One UI 5 are minimal and there are possibly bugs. Wait for the stable release.

Not sure why people flipping out over this. Just relax the Unlocked Phones with no Carrier Firmware installed will be last to upgrade. All the Carriers get priority first. It's always been this way.
