Reflashing a ROM from a different region - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Hello guys,
I hope everyone is doing fine out there regarding this worldwide pandemic!
I am here asking for help regarding my Note 20 Ultra.
I have a SM-N9860 model (i think this is China, Hong Kong variant) with Snapdragon CPU.
I live in Europe, Romania and because my phone was build for an other region, I can't use some of the mandatory apps(samsung pay), I dont't have access to updates from europe, I have a different layout for my keyboard, etc.
Now, here is the question: is it possible to flash the Romania's stock ROM version on my phone? Keep in mind that in europe there are no official Snapdragon variants and that means that I will flash an Exinos ROM on a Snapdragon phone.
I hope I found the right topic to post my question.
Have a nice day, everybody!

no you cant flash an exynos rom on snapdragon. I have the n9860 in israel im waiting for android 11 still.
never used samsung pay or google pay, cash is king.

That's not really what I wanted to hear
But, thanks God I did not atempted to flash a new ROM before asking!
Thank you for your answer!
Have a good night!

Same still waiting for Snapdragon Android 11 .... best phone
but last inline for 11 update with UI3.0

Either it's Hong Kong or Taiwan. Why did you buy Chinese version?

It was advertised as Snapdragon version and that's it. Nobody said anything about region, neither US nor China...

Its the best on paper... snapdragon, got all the accessories ( case & earphone ) + dual sim
and 256gb base instead of 128gb of the us version..
---
They schedule it at January 2021, so it's not that this model are late, it's just the other model get it earlY

I know this is contrary to what everyone says, but a few years ago I did successfully flash Exynos ROM on to a Snapdragon Samsung phone and everything worked fine, this might be anecdotal and I am not responsible if you try this yourself and brick your phone.
It was the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which I ordered and received from eGlobalCentralUK (ceased trading), they sold Chinese variant phones.
Global variant had the Exynos 9810 chip (SM-N960F/DS)
China variant had the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip (SM-N9600/DS)
I remember doing so because Samsung Pay didn't support any UK banks and only had Chinese banks. I have used Odin plenty before, so without checking on Google if it's possible to do this I just did it. I downloaded the official UK firmware from Sammobile and flashed the SM-N960F/DS (BTU) firmware on to the SM-N9600/DS Note 9. Everything worked to my knowledge, but I didn't do any specific tests like 2G/3G/4G on the phone.
Later when I got the Note 10+ and tried to sell my phone to MusicMagpie, they offered me £300 revised £0 for it because it wasn't UK variant and they can tell because it was Snapdragon.
Edit: grammar

Turn SM-G9708 (chinese S10e) into global?

Hi everyone,
I got a chinese S10e SM-9708 recently on my trip, since it has the superior snapdragon 855 compared to the exynos version sold here in europe. (plus its a bit cheaper there)
Could I just flash the global snapdragon 855 ROM (e.g. unlocked US ROMs) onto it and expect it to work flawlessly? using "official" tools like Odin or do I need to tinker around more? Will it support OTA then?
Sorry if that is a trivial question, i am pretty new to this.
Thanks in advance!
Hey,
I am not sure but I really want to know how this works. I want to root my S10e but I have a 970U model, so I can't. Honestly it's out of boredom and the challenge.
I am looking to trade for the Chinese\\HongKong one with a snapdragon if this is possible.
I hope you find out -- if I do I will post and let you know

you might be able to flash a Hong Kong SM-9700 ROM because they have the exact same hardware as the SM-9708 apparently (at your own risk, do research). US phones, even unlocked, have differences from the SM-9708 and 9700 (different: dual-sim, dual frequency GNSS, bootloader).

Flash the hong kong rom that has play store.
I’m using G9708 now. Unfortunately, there is no way to flash Chinese-unlocked/Hongkong rom by Odin without bootloader unlocked. Fortunately, she almost supports the global network as long as you don't use ChineseMobile SIM-card. Simultaneously, The official system comes with google serivers, so the GMS can be setup by yourself, you only need download them form APKmirror or other Open source networks.

Question on Proper Model

Hey Guys,
What would you recommend as the best model of the Note 20 Ultra to get? I have access to purchase the US unlocked, the International unlocked or the Korean Unlocked variant. I was concerned about using SamsungPay, yet I think I will let that ship sail. I am more concerned about overall performance and value. I will not be rooting. I use to for years on here, yet have not done so for the last 4 Note models. Just can't decided which would be the best one to purchase. Yet I need to get my pre-order in soon. I currently live in Japan. What are you thoughts?

my recommendation would be to get the version which has all the required bands to work well in Japan.
That said i would not get the international one though because it has the crappy exynos 990 in it.
both US and Korean variants have the snapdragon 865+. i known rooting doesnt matter but just for information the US and Canadian models cannot be rooted due to the locked bootloader

Thanks for your reply. Both the Korean and the US variant would work the same for LTE here... I'm going with the Korean version as it has twice the storage for the same price.... If for some crazy reason I do root it later, it looks like it would be doable with the Korean model in flashing a generic worldwide wide rom(?).. It seems there was pretty healthy development on the snapdragon Korean version of the note 10 plus...I don't think that I will ever push it has enough to fully use the chipset, yet it's a good piece of mind to have when spending so much money, that you got the best performance you can buy.... because any variant isn't 100% completely compatible with all the LTE bands in Japan, I would feel better getting the chipset that has the best energy efficiency as well... I'll be going with mystic white as it give me the greatest flexibility in swapping skins and cases, plus the grey framed camera bump looks better in my opinion

I am stuck in this too, live in Canada
I need Dual SIM ( not avail for North American version )
I need rooting
I checked but the HK bands dont work for my carriers 5G
So - should I buy a Note 20 Ultra with Exynos? where I am not getting its worth OR go for a Note 10 + instead International but with Exynos for $1200 CAD

I definitely wouldnt buy exynos this year..the 990 is total crap.
last year the snapdragon was still better but I don't think the performance margin was a big.
what carrier you with?

For me 5G is nice, yet not super important due to the fact Japan just turned on 5G for commercial use 2 months ago and still have yet to flesh it out properly. NTT Docomo, the largest of the 3 carriers, expects only 2.5 million subscribers by March 2021... In short I'm saying how much access will you have to 5G in your area?... Is it top priority if you are getting great speeds on LTE already?
I went with the HK version over the Korean version for the dual sim capability....
As far as rooting I think both the HK and Korean versions were enjoying some success on the Note 10+ forums... You might want to check how things went with rooting development on those models , with expectations for probably the same level of support

Global rom on Snapdragon N20U version ?

Hello guys,
in my country (france) if i import a N20U with the snapdragon processor, i know for example samsung pay and volte doesn't work and updates software maybe not in same time (and different?), my question is, can i flash a qualcomm version with a global rom intended for the model with exynos processor? and if it's possible samsung pay volte etc work like the europe version after that?
Maybe it's a stupid question but the last time i used odin for flash a phone it's in 2012 so .. ?

1) I wouldn't assume that Samsung pay and VoLTE wouldn't work - it's actually likely they would, as Samsung Pay appears to work if the phone's CSC is for a country/region with Samsung Pay, and VoLTE appears to work if the phone has your carrier's frequencies and your carrier supports it;
2) Short answer is no, you can't flash an Exynos ROM on a Snapdragon model;
3) if your goal is to get a Note 20 with the Snapdragon processor, I would suggest you also check out the thread on the HK SM-N9860.

Hope it is helpful. I would add that while Samsung Pay likely would work in France using a U.S. N20U, it would be the U.S. version of Samsung Pay, and therefore not all cards from France would necessarily work with it, as again, Samsung Pay appears to be inextricably linked to the phone's CSC (country-specific code).
That said, as you will see in the thread on the HK SM-N9860, users are reporting good success with Samsung Pay outside of HK, for example.
Would welcome others weighing in on the compatibility and pros/cons of different ROMs with the various models of Note, as my knowledge is very limited in that regard.

I live in the UK and volte works perfectly. I tried with 2 different mobile operators. The same with wifi calling. Samsung Pay also works perfectly, it just displays Chinese promos.

Just until VirtualWaver replies, that's right - because it is the HK version of Samsung Pay on that model. His point was that he was using it successfully outside of HK, in the UK.
The key differences between the HK model and the N20U you are considering (apart from US vs HK Samsung Pay) is the HK model is dual-SIM, and comes with 256 GB of storage (versus the US base model's 128 GB).
Note as well the discussions in the threads about getting 5G on the HK model, which may be problematic.

Yes, promos related to country of CSC (Hong Kong in my case) - see the attached screenshot.
I have SM-9860 imported from Hong Kong (via Wondamobile).
All works great, only Hong Kong related ads in the app instead of your local ads and it doesn't allow to use UK transport card, only Smart Octopus (HK travel card) but this is only to touch in in transport without turning on the phone - you can still touch in and pay in public transport by swapping to Samsung Pay in lock screen and authorising the payment via biometrics.
I added my UK bank card and a few store cards and they all work flawlessly.
Confirmed Samsung Pay worked in Canada too ( SM-N9860 ), however not anymore since I rooted

This csc is annoying because the phone will have updates at the same time as China and I read that the updates are really later than in France

Question buy snapdragon version in uk possible?

After reading up latest benchmark, it was pretty clear that snapdragon version was better then Exynos processor in quite a few areas, and wondered if its possible to buy a snapdragon version whilst in UK. If anyone managed to get one, how did you managed that? Thanks
Wonda Mobile seems to be the best place for us in the UK to purchase a Snapdragon version. I know of quite a few people that have gone down this route with no issues, but I think they are based in Hong Kong which could present some issues.
First of all there would be no incentives like Galaxy Buds etc
There would only be 12 months warranty instead of 24 months and in the event of a warranty claim the device would have to be shipped back at the owners expense.
Software updates would not be as frequent.

Something to consider, check which CSC Wonda Mobile is selling. Of the 3 SM-G9080 variants the TGY is the best CSC. CHC is the worst option since China restricts numerous apps. If they don't sell it various Hong Kong retailers are stocking it.

Question Looking for an international Samsung S22 Ultra. Help.!!

So I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 512GB US Verison and didn't realize I cannot root it until after the fact.
Could you guy send me some link to purchase an international version of a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 512GB or higher please? I'm not sure how to find one.
Check wondamobile. Very good reviews, fast delivery and I have used before to get Note 20 Ultra Snapdragon in UK. They are Hong Kong units with global ROMs on.

I'm in the US
There are only 4 Snapdragon variants which have the option for unlocking the bootloader. Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Korea. Of the 4 I would recommend the Hong Kong device. You can find it on eBay and a handful of Hong Kong Retailers. I would want to confirm with the seller which variant they're offering.
I bought my 908E on Amazon with bootloader unlockable
That's the Australian variant? Good news! The only thing that sucks is OneUI 4.1 makes development more challenging. I wouldn't expect to see many custom rom's for these devices.
