Could someone, preferably with a Zenfone 7 at hand, please confirm which USB version these devices have? Rumors on the Internets are conflicted (links below).
Is it 480Mbps (High Speed aka USB 2.0) or 5Gbps (SuperSpeed aka USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.2 Gen 1x1)? Even if we cannot have DisplayPort, 5Gbps could allow us a DisplayLink-based solution. Many thanks in advance!
The official techspecs omit USB version all together:
Asus Zenfone 7 - Tech Specs
Asus Zenfone 7 Pro - Tech Specs
GSM Arena is no better, mentioning only the interface ("USB-C").
GSM Arena comparison between Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro
PhoneDB states that both versions have USB 3.1 with support for USB HS (480 Mbps) and USB SS (5 Gbps).
PhoneDB Zenfone 7 - Tech Specs
PhoneDB Zenfone 7 Pro - Tech Specs
Yet, Notebook Check claims it is only USB 2.0:
Notebook Check review of Zenfone 7 Pro
It does have USB 3 with a USB C connector however I have NOt noticed a speed different in transferring data from phone to PC. I could not find any data on this either so I did a speed test with files. There is no way to do a test which will literally show transfer speed due to the way the phones are made. You have to just test using a file and a timer.. You will never literally see the speed indicated liek you normally see when transfering data from phone to PC..
I transfered a 8,8GB zip file onto my internal storage and it took a little over 5minutes. I guess it's 2.0.
Transferring the file with the inbuilt network transfer tool from the file manager (over 5Ghz wifi) took just 2minutes
Thanks round2 and Tagion.
Any chance you'd be willing to run USB Tree View (~330KB, no installation)?
The steps are simple:
1) Run the app.
2) Plug the phone into a USB 3.x-port. Whichever port turns green (see attachment) will be the phone.
3) Copy and paste all right-hand text to https://pastebin.com and share the link here (or PM it to me and I'll clean it from unique device data before sharing it).
Thanks again! It really would be good to have a definite answer.

The included cable is 2.0 and I don't have a 3.0 type C cable unfortunately, so I can't test.

Thanks for that but i was more looking for software driver/program which allows you to use usb disk.
214 has already small usb port and i'd like to connect it directly in it - don't know why use another plugin between.
i hope you know what i wanted to say.

Ones again a simple Google search revealed an Archos USB-host cable for the mini usb port.
Remember that no one said that the mini USB port on the iPaq is usb-host capable, infact a forum mod here claims that the mini-usb port is NOT host capable and no there is no addon driver that I am aware of.
In fact I am fairly sure that it is a hardware feature, otherwise someone would have written such a software for my Tytn/Hermes eons ago.
Hope this helps.
hello Xoom owners,
Xoom uses USB OTG but I'm curious what capabilities does it really has.
What's more - Android 3.1 supports it's host mode.
Have anyone tried to plug a USB audio DAC/AMP/ external audio devices to your Xoom?

I tried plugging in the Korg nanoPAD and Serato. Both devices powered up but that was about it. I'm not rooted so I can't easily debug to see if the OS recognizes them even. Would be awesome if Google could give HC some DAW/Midi love, and of course some quality apps would need to follow (sigh)
I am not terribly familiar with either device. Looked up the nanoPAD and it looks like it requires a midi over USB driver to be installed, so it wouldn't have native USB Audio support like say a DAC would.
Still haven't been able to get a definite word on whether or not a DAC would work.
Thanks for the report on these peripherals, interesting to see people pushing the limits.
host mode doesn't mean that any usb device will work. Currently the only devices with built in drivers are keyboards, mice, and mass storage. Anything else requires a driver.
Sorry to dig up this thread but has anyone found a USB audio class driver for the Xoom? It appears the Xoom must have one lying around somewhere as the dock uses USB only for connection, right?
Bumping this;
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/55393-usb-audio-and-digital-out/
It seems like the xoom needs a driver with usbaudio, then something to switch the output.
Anyone using or tried any OTG on the v10?
I am considering getting one (all) of these...

With this reader, my friend did show me something that was not possible, with the use of the istick app on ios, you can copy and move files and music to and from the adapter to a iphone or ipad, the adapter also allows you play rmvb files.

Anyone try this?
http://www.amazon.com/SlimPort-Adap...456118978&sr=8-3&keywords=lg+v10+hdmi+adapter
I have seen the 5-in-1 that include USB-OTG, Slimport-Video-Out, and charging at the same time. However the reviews I have seen say that when connecting the HDMI to a Tv, the connection is very touch-and-go. Also there is a limitation with USB-OTG, and the phone can't be charged while "hosting" any usb devices. Not without modifying the kernel. I made a post here on this topic.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/help/usb-otg-slimport-questions-t3322542 Seems like this post here might be a better place for discussing such features.
Does anybody know if there's any reason why HDMI and usb OTG couldn't be used at the same time? Also, do you think wireless charging might work while using USB OTG?
I found an interesting article regarding a " DisplayLink " docking station. The basic idea is to output video through USB OTG, while using the same USB OTG port to connect USB devices. http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/08...se-easily-with-a-displaylink-docking-station/
This is a very interesting solution.
Introduction
Hello,
I've made a simple app to disable USB charging so you can keep plugging your phone to PC without charging to 100%. Personally i use it when I'm connected my phone for development (ADB over USB).
But i need your help. I wan't to make it compatible with more android devices, currently its just some LG, Xperia, and Xiaomi phones.
Right now, I need your help to increase its compatibility to Samsung Galaxy S7.

How you can help me?
If you have file manager access:
Go to /sys/class/power_supply (or something similar sounding).
Look for USB or Battery or similar sounding folder.
Enter those folders, and reply the screenshot of the files to this topic.
If you able to use Terminal:
type ls /sys/class/power_supply/
then, screenshot it (or copy paste it) and reply it here
type ls /sys/class/power_supply/battery (or other similar sounding folder you saw on /power_supply/)
then, screenshot it (or copy paste it) and reply it here
Thank you!

Is there a similar way to enable otg and charge at the same time with this mod?
Wow this is really smart in its own way... very useful if you don't want to drain your computers power (at one point I was stuck using an old dell inspiron 5400 that I found on the side of the road one day and I had to make a split power and data USB cable because the computer would actually lose processing power and overall pcu power when any phones or anything were plugged in because the USB Jacks were practically fried)

This is nearly impossible. Chip that enables USB otg allows the phone to power the device therefore it would require the entire phone to be modified not to provide power to the USB OTG cord and you would need to make a cord that would charge the device and whatever is on the USB OTG (recommend two separate charge lines instead of just wiring power lines to both)
Pretty much would have to redesign the charger chip in the phone for this to be allowed...

I swear i have thinked about apps like this, cool work.
You definitely did a good job figuring out how to get this to work... If I was willing to root my only phone I would install this app first

In BATTERY folder there is a folders named Device, Power and Subsystem.
Do you need this folders?
Is this app still available?
Hello, why do 2 different USB-C-to-HDMI cables NOT deliver any signal to the beamer? I used 2 brandnew cables (from Anker resp. Warrky), but the screen remains blank, as if nothing had been connected. On the other hand, this Full-HD-Beamer easily shows signals from sat-receiver (HDMI to HDMI), DSLR (USB-A to HDMI) and laptop (display port to HDMI).
Connecting the Pixel 7 Pro via USB-C-to-HDMI directly to the beamer (not to a HDMI multi-plug), I see these messages on the Pixel 7 Pro, that don't seem as expected (re-translated to English by me):
- attached device charged via USB (while the cable description says, "no charging possible")
- device controlling the USB connection: Connected Device (meaning the beamer obviously)
There is no change possible, for instance it's not possible to set "This Device" (the Pixel 7 Pro) as controlling device. Also the use for the USB connection (like file transfer, USB tether etc.) can't be changed at all. It is all grayed out and fixed to "PTP" (picture transfer protocol), which seems not to make sense?
According to data sheets, the Pixel 7 Pro has USB-C 3.2 Gen. 2 – and according to the cables' descriptions, with this the signal should go from mobile to beamer.
Do you have any idea? Are there other devices, perhaps even wireless? Thanks!
PS. I mainly would view mobile photos and Youtube videos. Audio would be transferred on a separate Bluetooth connection.
The phone doesn't support it. You can only use a displaylink device and it's a ****ty experience.
The pixel 8 will include displayport and should support HDMI adapters.

You could use a Chromecast for that, and they are inexpensive. I think you would need to send audio from your projector (I think that's what you mean by "beamer") though.
I was disappointed a phone in this price point didn't include MHL.
I use an hdmi adapter bought from best buy called ( J Create Adapter). App on playstore.
Best $29 adapter with unnoticeable latency..

Hi all, thanks for clarifying info, photos + screens!
It's disappointing indeed that you can't use a simple USB-C to HDMI adapter.
I will look at Chromecast and at that Best Buy adapter, if i do get it in my territory.
Yes, with "beamer" i meant projector.
Anyone knows if there is a change that Google enable a kind of desktop mode on pixel 7 pro if the 8 does support it? From what I understood the hardware can support it but it misses something in USB driver am I right? Or I'm dreaming and will be forced to switch to the 8 to get the feature?
