I have only used my Galaxy Note tablet a few days, and I am probably using it approximately 5-6 hours tops. It is needing recharged every day! It takes hours to charge and then I only get 5-6 hours usage? Is this normal?
I would appreciate any response.
Thanks.
Galaxy Note 10.1
Try going into setting and then battery see which application is draining the battery and get rid of it.
Note has one of the best batteries around but if you use non stop for heavy application like gamming you should get between 8 - 10 hours of actual usage.
If not then may be there is an issue with your charger or battery get it checked and replaced
Also Note takes a long time to charge around 5 - 6 hours
Hmm.. I use it and get about 8 hours +/- depending what I do with it. I normally use it to take notes for about 5 hours (around 3 hours of actual note taking, 2 hours of doing scratch work for homework on it), and I'm browsing Reddit for the rest of the time. I've noticed that I've had to charge it more often lately, but I've been using it to watch Netflix mostly in the last couple of days.
In my experience with the Asus Transformer, I had to charge almost everyday as well because of my high usage. What do you normally use it for?
A day's heavy usage is normal.
Charge from 0-100% takes about 5 hrs for everyone.
In simple terms, the Note 10.1 has a large capacity
battery that takes a while to charge. Rechargeable
batteries lose their ability to hold charge over time,
but that time is measured in months and years.
I am not sure, maybe I am reading this battery meter wrong. When I go to settings and open battery, it says "51% discharging" and then below that says "15h 12m 59s on battery."
We are mostly using the tab for web surfing, and watched a few Youtube videos. I don't believe anyone has even watched a full show on it yet. It has only been in use since Thursday night. I am not sure what to think.
Doesn't the 51% represent how much battery life is remaining? And what does the other stat (15h 12m 59s on battery) represent?
I appreciate any help or advice.
Also, The only items it shows below that is Screen & Device Idle. Screen says 99% and Device Idle says 2%.
99% usage for screen is quite odd. Maybe try turning brightness down or trying the power saving option for screen. Also, and this may sound silly, but if you haven't rebooted it, that is worth a shot, sometimesthings just drain until rebooted.

To answer your questions
51% is the amount of remaining battery.
15h 12m 59sec is just what it sounds like. It's the time the tablet had been off the charger.
Most of the time your screen should be the highest. Here is what mine looks like. It's been a light day.

Please help me figure out if this kind of usage seems appropriate for battery drain. I am keeping a little log to see how fast it is draining. I just cannot understand if this is normal. Here is a small sample for this evening to see if it seems normal. I only been surfing some, no watching anything.
1109p at 99% battery
1130p at 94% battery
1155p at 90% battery
under settings, battery, all that says is screen 100% no other items listed below
Is it normal to get 5 or 6 hrs then have to recharge even if you are just surfing? I thought people went for days without charging this. I have never owned a tablet before, but I never have to charge my computer or phone this much and I use both for more time than this and not had to recharge this soon.
I am just trying to understand if I have something se tup wrong, or have a faulty tablet.
I truly appreciate all the help from everyone. Thanks.

Have you tried changing the brightness to about 30% (about the same as what I have it on and I get about 3-4 days charge with light usage)? Also rebooting, uninstalling recent apps, enabling/disabling power-saving options?
If nothing else works, try a factory reset and just use it like normal with no extra downloaded apps from google play. Try that for one charge and if it's still bad, there must be something wrong with your unit.
Would you be able to take a screenshot of your battery status window? (hold spen button and hold spen on screen for 2 seconds to take screenshot). It could help us determine the problem. If you could get screenshots of both the main window listing the things that have used battery, as well as the window after you tap the battery graph, that would be great.
Mate, I don't honestly believe you have a problem... I use my tab for around 10hrs/day and I need to recharge it... I do use it for mostly video files...
I also have the 3g version. What's yours? If it's 3g and you are in an area where you don't have a good signal then the modem will be looking and consuming battery power...
Even though this tablet has a large battery, it is usually used up within a day or 2... Try leaving your laptop on all day, it won't last too long either...
That's the main difference between a laptop and a tablet (even if the laptop is in hibernation it will still kill the battery eventually).
Just got a new Z3 D6616. This is the battery life projection I'm getting. I bought this phone because I heard great things about it's battery life. Also, when I saw a YouTube review, the guy's phone had a battery life projection of several days. Is something faulty with this specific handset? Am I doing something terribly wrong? Please advise.
PS. I'm at about 30-40% screen brightness with the adaptive setting on.

You should actually use the phone from 100% doing your daily stuff till about 1% and take screen of your on screen time. On screen time is what matter. They claimed to have at least 8 hours SoT with normal usage but the max I can get is only 4.5 or 5 hours.
I did a lot of reading before buying the phone. Heard about the "memory" screen or something that helps towards battery life. Several users claimed 10 hours SOT. Could it be the newer firmware that might have reduced it? I'll post the YouTube videos I saw shortly.
I use brightness at about 1/3 and have location and autosync on. I get about 8-9 Hrs SOT in a 36Hrs period.
At first even I got 4-6 Hrs SOT until it calibrated over a few charge/discharge cycles.
It takes a few cycles for the battery to calibrate, if you want to do that faster do the following:
1. Drain to 0-1% with normal use
2. Do a full charge till 100%
3. Do another full discharge (Dont charge in between)
4. Do another full charge till 100%
5. Now just use it how you want.
Thanks! Guess I'll have to report back report back after a couple cycles.
I have the same problem, I have enable the stamina mode, have the brightness at half and auto, and the battery won't last for one day,as an example today when I get up after I unplug the device it go from 100% to 99% right away and now after 10 hours without game, photos just Internet reading over WiFi the battery is at 31%. It doesn't seem normal, what should I do?must go to service?
I'm at 59% and my phone predicts 1 day remaining.
D6616 as well
I do suspect an app draining my battery though...

Nope, 1 day 19 hours standby
Well, it says 23 hours now... and 1 day 18 hours in Standby mode.
I also have no power saving features enabled, with max brightness..
I can get 6+ hours if I limit my brightness, but I settle for less with max brightness throughout the day.

I have it turned off, I can't really tell a difference..
Sometimes my "battery forecast" is low like yours though, I wouldn't worry about it unless you're actually getting bad battery life.

The battery life I'm experiencing is worse than the "forecast", which is essentially what worries me. Regardless, I've no right to whine unless I've cycled the battery completely at least once since it is after all a brand spanking new phone.

I doubt I'd get the 24 hours from now with my current use either. As long as it lasts me throughout the day I'm fine.
I can generally go the entire weekend without charging my phone though.
Ive gone through 3 Z4s (Cosmetic defects/lightbleed) on my 4th Z4, all of the were bad until they were calibrated within a few days.

Lol yes.
I fully discharged and recharged my phone. Now I got 18 hours usage, including 7 hours SOT with the screen on max brightness for half an hour. It's getting much better now, certainly a huge improvement over my previous phone!
Sent from the inner sanctum of my mind.
That's more like it, it should get a little better.
Please have a look towards the end... My phone's been awake when I was asleep. Is there an issue with this phone deep sleeping? While I get a good SOT, the idle drain is too high! Please advise on how I could investigate if a particular app is doing this. I used to use "wakelock detector" but that no longer works without root.
EDIT: Stamina Mode always on.

I have the same problem too... Whenever I leave the phone idle, even with the stamina mode on, it still uses the battery as if I was using it.
So I had the S6 last year and ended up returning it due to the poor battery performance. I ended up back on an iPhone. When the news of a larger battery and better chip performance come out for the S7 I was ready to jump back on the ANdroid bandwagon.
So fast forward. I just unplugged my phone at 100%. It's been a half hour and I'm already at 95%. I have to consistently keep the power save mode on to conserve battery. It's getting somewhat annoying because it screws up updates and notifications as well as some app don't work well.
I've tried conserving battery by shutting off certain features, keeping display brightness down etc while having power save mode off. It just seems that Android System is chewing through the battery. I don't know what the hell is doing it either.
I don't want to cripple the phone by keeping it on power save mode all the time. Does anyone have any recommendations that will help me or I might have to return this phone and ALL the free stuff I got with it.
Thanks
Half hour of use at 95%? Cus that's not bad at all. I'm consistently getting 5-7 hours of SoT.
I think OP meant half hour of standby because im experiencing the same type of battery drain. But even with this drain im getting about 10-12 hrs of moderate use with 4.5 hrs SoT
Turn AOD off. Let the battery run down... Turn off fast charge. Fully charged the phone. Don't disable anything else. Go through a couple cycles like this. You'll see a difference. Then use package Disabler pro and disable what you don't use. You'll be happy...
So for the hell of it I turned off location in the drop down menu so see how it affects battery life. I have been off the charger for about 2.5 hours now. I have used the phone here and there throughout that time. When it came off the charger it was at 98% and it's at 91% now.
That's 7 percent with use in 2.5 hours whereas before it lost 5% in a half hour on standby with no use.
What the hell is pinging location over and over? If you hold down the location drop down menu option the phone displays the apps that use location. All of them say low battery use.
Is there a way to set these up to only use location when the app is being used?

Is fast charge bad for the battery or something? I've gone through about 3 cycles with fast charge on and battery still isn't great. Hoping it will improve after about 3-4 more cycles
All I know is that it made a huge difference for me. I think that it's more of a battery calibration thing. It really doesn't take that much longer to charge the phone with fast charge off...
I got an S7 G930F yesterday, first full charge last night, I haven't it even properly set up yet, haven't got most of my apps installed yet. I took it of the charger this morning at 8am its now at 50% at 2pm, 45 mins screen on time with the biggest battery drain being android system 20%.
I have hardly used the phone today as I'm off work, at this rate it'll be dead long before bedtime with me doing nothing.
Any ideas?
Hard to expect getting the best of it at first. It took me a good week to figure out how to optimized battery without having to use it like a 2G phone. I suggest you do factory reset. Observe how it goes that way. For the first time, a handful of things run in the background; syncing, location, whatsoever so I bet it'll take a while to really adapt and I can assure you based on experience, it's like that as it was like for me.

Always takes a few full charge cycles to get the best out of a new battery I find, fully charge and fully discharge 4-5 times, calibrates the phone too to know what 0% and 100% are iirc
But you're always going to see high battery usage setting up a new phone, installing apps, screen on constantly, playing about with it more than you will once you've had it a while
The are wide reports today of crazy bad battery life. Some people are tying it the latest Oculus update.

I'd like to believe that but I didn't have this issue on my Nexus 5X with a smaller battery or Huawei P9 Lite, in fact the P9 Lite also has a 3000mAh battery and I could make it last 2 full days, this won't last 1.
Getting the phone yesterday, you've hardly given it a chance, with heavy usage I get just over a day with mine, with medium, 2 days
Same phone, same OS, same battery
See how you get on in a week or two, or return it and get the Edge, 3600mAh
Check the package disabler pro threads, disable the battery draining bloatware (no root needed)

Yep thats the usage I got with my P9 Lite with the same size battery. I was sitting this morning look at the phones always on display. 30mins of the charger it was at 94% and that's with me not even touching it.
It's crap for the first few days
Whenever I first got my phone or when I factory reset or when I install new rom, the battery life is usually crap. But after a few days when battery optimization kicks in (power saving on apps not used in past few days) battery gets tremendously better.
Posting back to confirm that Oculus update shat on a lot of phones.
Oculus home process kept trying to install and uninstall. This demolished battery life, increased heat, etc.
Once I uninstalled Oculus, all problems went away. I will reinstall after fix.
This may be caused by either the oculus app or good lock app they have been reports on the Internet about these two particular apps
Also when setting the phone for the first time it will drain battery in the first few days
Confirmed about Oculus draining battery

Definitely was, my phone overheated and shut down over night when the update came through. I literally couldn't charge it it with fast charger. it would just sit at the same % it was burning through the battery so quickly. uninstalled sammy vr and oculus apps everything fine now.
I don't have anything oculus related installed. The is day 2, second full charge last night. Of the charger now 1 hour, its got flight mode on with wifi calling enabled. I am currently at 90% with 1 min screen on time. Android services again the biggest hog but it contains IPSec services which does the Wifi Calling part.
I was about to remove Occulus when I received an occulus update, about one hour ago, and it seems that the problem is fixed. The battery looks ok, and the phone is not hot any more. I'm waiting a little bit more to be sure...
Right guys I have found the culprit of my drain issue. Wifi calling. I happened to turn it off and I have gone from 10% drain in an hour to 1%
That's more like it, never used WiFi calling so wouldn't know if it causes drain
EDIT - Not available with my model / carrier
There's a debloat script back in the Development Section which will remove all those trash that came with the phone, as for battery optimaztion This Ultimate Battery Guide is one of the best here in XDA and is a must see for anyone with an android phone basically
Goodluck
I've had this phone for two weeks now and the past few days every time I charge it to 100 it instantly drops to 99 after 2-3min of use. I'm not running any heavy programs either if I just have the screen on it will drop. In the screenshot below I had 13min of use and it went down to 98. Is this happening to anyone else? I don't have power saver mode on.

I'll check it out next time I charge the phone.
Seems to be just about right
If you're not getting good enough screen on time and did factory resets already, try reflashing the system. It worked for me.
Mine does the same exact thing. My note 9 never had this issue and I'm only seeing 3 to 3 1/2 hours on screen time..
My samsung SM-N975U battery averages 1d 0h 0m (19h 50m 0s active usage) on a single charge.
My note 10+ goes from 100 to 97 in about 5 minutes. Current situation -
upload
The last thing I'll complain about is going from 100% to 97% in 5 minutes with this type of battery life.
I am in a situation where it feels like its draining faster then it should, but Im also using it more than I should, so I dont know if a phone issue or a me issue. Im gonna do a reset to see if the results remind.
I realized that the Secret for obtaining high amounts of battery life (screen in time) is if you consistently use the phone.I found that I can easily get 10 hours if I'm constantly using the phone to the point where the screen is on for 10 hours. The second I put the phone to sleep and I don't use it as much is when I start heading 6 to 8 hours of screen on time. It's weird how they've implemented this but,
I now just use my device without even concerning myself with the battery life for screen on time because it doesn't really matter. In the back of my mind I know I could get 10 hours if I actually spent that amount of time on my device with the screen on. When it comes to regular usage 6-8 hours on a device that lasts a day and a half sometimes almost 2 days I don't think it's anything to complain about
The problem is that your phone like mine must have came with 4300 or less mAh ... Most likely less ... Mine has 4280 mAh I am very pissed at Samsung for that since my hauwei p30 pro phone have almost 4800 mAh so it spends 8 hours in 100 percent until it starts to decrease the battery that is why so many fear hauwei I guess it was my first phone from then and it's amazing how it is superior to anything I have ever seen before ...
Ya me too how solve battery drain issues
I have a issue with regards to the battery where if the battery is reaches 10% , then from 10 to 0% drains within 1min. Any idea how to fix this or issue with the battery?
